I enjoyed the story and I thought a talk about it on this audio boom. There was lots of action shooting and people get smacked in the face and it was completely Fast and Furious from start to finish. At the end of the story the other guy was in a book to read and a couple of other extra bits and pieces to enjoy as well so I'll probably end up buying one of his books later on.

A Good and Geeky look at comments I heard in a discussion about whether we are getting too much screen time. There are some people who are complaining that we spend too much time hooked up to our iPhones, iPads and computers and that it devoted ourselves from real life. There are videos on YouTube of people walking down the street so engrossed by what's happening in the iPhone that they managed to walk directly into a bear. Screen time doesn't have to be that dangerous though you could just as easily walk into a lamppost or fall down a hole in the street.

Are you becoming divorced from real-life because you have your head in the cloud? Maybe you're becoming a bit of a robot because you're always using your mobile computing devices to enhance what you do with life and how you do it?

I like to think that it is good to use technology to Record a Life in a good and geeky way. Record your life in something much more than a boring old journal filled with scribbled writings. We can now make videos, record audios to add to our photographs and about writing. Some of it which make public input into the social networks and some of it we can just keep to ourselves.

I'd like to think about technology in an optimistic way in that it will make lives better for us overall. It doesn't have to turn us into thinking robots and it can enhance our lives in so many different ways.

What about you? Are you into technology as much as I am and eager to incorporate it into your life as much is possible?

Mac20Q Podcast 125 Talking about what is coming up with the Good and Geeky books with a book about life logging. The application I like to use for this task is Day One and it will be covered in detail in the book. The book will also look at how to use applications which will do a certain amount of automatic journalling for you. There are applications such as #Chronos and #Heyday. I was trying a system which is called Gift Today which automatically brought in posts made in Twitter and Facebook and put them into Day One. It was working for a couple of weeks but something must have changed in the settings and I need to get back in again to reset it up.

What's coming with IOS 9 and El Capitan

in particular i like the keyboard improvements to the standard keyboard. i can't understand why it is taken so long for Apple to give us pictures of the letters we are typing lower case or upper case. This has been available already on other third-party keyboards such as #Swiftkey and #Swype. These are the keyboards are great to use as swapping from letter to letter is easier than tapping them. The problem comes with the fact that you can't see the microphone button to let you use every dictation in the third-party keyboards. I do prefer to dictate as much as possible and so I ended up using the standard keyboard even though it wasn't the best.

I'm looking forward to this news application coming from Apple. It's going to be interesting to see how it worked out in comparison to Flipboard. I will probably have to install the beta of IOS 9 so I get early access to the news app. I want to be up to see how it works out with my news channel for all of my websites I have set up already. There is a hint that we might get a separate application we can use to create posts directly to put into the news application. Then again, it might just be the ability to export out of something like Pages or even iBooks Author.

Talking about Apple Watch - Renault Clio and Carplay

I have been using the Apple Watch for a couple of weeks now and loving it. I use it to control audio on my iPhone, for making timers and alarms. Great to see the notifications coming in and to use to make the quick and dirty journal posts in apps like Heyday and Day One. I can go into the apps on the iPhone or on the Mac later and add more with these Apple Watch posts used and markers to remind me what to write about in detail.

A bit of waffle about my new car. I have a Renault Clio and I think it would be great if I could upgrade it to Apple Car Play. I love to be able to interact with the car like I do with the Watch and the iOS devices - By talking to them to make them do my bidding. I don't have adaptive cruise control on the car and wish I did. I'll get that on the next car for sure. That's when the car uses radar to match the speed of the car in front, slowing you down to keep the distance.

Good and Geeky Books Working on building up the author platform by giving my first Good and Geeky books away to find my audience. The internet is a crowded space and authors have to find their readers. Loving the experience of doing the geeky set up of my web sites to draw in mores fans to my email list.

On the fiction side of things. Today I published the first chapter of my zombie novel on Wattpad. Now I have to come up with a new chapter every week. I have some of the second chapter written already so I am a little ahead of myself.

Good day today - Wrote about 2000 words. Mostly for a blog post that I turned into this Podcast, but I did write 400 words for the intro to the zombie story.

Published my first book on Amazon Kindle Store

I talk about the publication of my book into the Kindle store. Delighted to have for to the point where I could submit it. I had to make a couple of updates with readers pointing out a couple of typos. There will always be some niggles hiding.

Looking forward to making an iBooks Author version of the book to send to the Apple Book Store. It will have to wait because I went with KDP Select which is a 90 day tie in.

I comment about the moaning from the guy that makes the Overcast app. He says Apple software is worse now and should be better. All this wee Overcast has been crashing my iPhone. Irony overload there! Hopefully this week it will be better as he finally got an upgrade out to users.

Waking up with Siri and keeping the eyes firmly closed

I recorded how I start my day using Siri. While I am still in bed and my eyes have not yet opened I can find out if it is too early to get up or if it is time I got my butt out of bed. Before I have even started to get the sleep out of my eyes I have asked Siri what time it is, if there are any messages, events or emails waiting for me.

When my eyes have decided to join the land of the living I can check out the social networks with Twitter, Facebook and Google plus. I can use it for the dictation to reply to messages and she even understands my Brummie accent.

Starting the day this way is so much better, especially in the winter when it is nice and warm in bed and the day hasn't yet warmed up.

Starting when your eyes are not ready for the day they are still partly closed and there is nothing better than to get a few things done by talking to Siri. IRI ball to first of all find out what time it is I am first of all able to then I can see if I have any appointments for the day, check my messages and my email. The curtains are still closed, the room is still dark and I haven't even opened my eyes it.

In this podcast I talk about starting the day with Siri and then I talk about the application I bought yesterday called Workflow. Workflow gives us automation on iOS and I am impressed with the new application that only came out yesterday. Already I can see I will have lots of uses for it. It is especially good when I combine it with Launch Center Pro.

I last got talking to Michael about five years ago and since then he's added a trashcan Mac Pro and also the latest iMac with a 5K display to his Apple stable. He tells me about how his house and he burned down alongside telling me what he does with his Mac and his iOS devices. You could say that we had a really good chat and that we got on like a house on fire! The good thing is that it wasn't his house. He does also use a Microsoft surface tablet, but we won't hold that against him. It seems that most of his business end of things could be done with whatever sort of technology even though his offices dominantly Mac-based. Some software that is required for the business is either Windows or Android.

For his personal computing needs he uses Mac and IOS and is still using Aperture for his photography as he was when I first spoke to him. Like many people that are used to using professional applications for photography and in particular using Aperture is considering moving completely to Adobe Lightroom due to Apple stopping work with Aperture. We don't know yet whether the application that will be in place instead of both Aperture and also iPhoto, the Photos app will be any good. It could be better than any of the previous Apple applications for dealing with photos. We will have to see, but in the meantime it does leave a certain amount of uncertainty.

I have to admit to being jealous that Michael has bought himself one of these new iMacs with the 5K display. I would also be jealous that he has also got one of these trash can Mac Pro computers which will also be rather good for working with 4K displays and doing video work. In any case it seems Michael has it all sorted out in terms of which hardware and software he wants to use and balancing that with some of the constraints with the technology that they has to use.

River God book by Wilbur Smith and my tutorial for encrypting emails

I love reading and my latest book is the book River God by Wilbur Smith. It is extremely entertaining and I am enjoying the story. I know that as soon as I finished this one I will be moving on to the next book in the series. I am back at home in Spain, in Catalonia and the weather has been a little bit cool and wet. So I'm keen, even desperate to get out for a ride on my bicycle but in the meantime I have been making video tutorials showing Mac users how to encrypt emails. While working on this video I upgraded some software and had some difficulties and had to try other software and continued having more difficulties. These are the difficulties only arose because of me not being used to using that software for creating tutorials. It made me think that I need to spend some time relearning and reacquainting myself with this software. And then I will be to make some more tutorials!

My latest tutorial shows Mac users how to sending encrypted emails using certificates from StartSSL. It is not too difficult to set up and once it is done it is so much easier than using GPG or PGP encryption.

I had an iPad Air 2 day with setting up the new toy

I am in the Apple Community after being half in and half out by using an Android phone for 16 months. Added to the stable today with the arrival of the latest iPad. Easy set up which I could have made go faster if I had thought about what I was doing step by step. I started downloading apps to the iPad that I could have just synchronised from iTunes.

Pretty pleased with the iOS device from Apple and I know it will serve me well for two or three years now. The screen is excellent and it looks like the text and images are right on top of the glass front. Less reflective than the screen on the previous model. I am finding it great for reading books.

Trying out a load of camera and photo apps and I can't wait to get into the Replay app I saw demoed on the stage at the Apple event last week. Pixelmator is an app I love using on the Mac and I have just bought the new iPad version. It will be a favourite along with Procreate which I like to use for drawing and painting digitally.

A good day to do an upgrade to Yosemite and to iOS 8.1

I hesitated before I am graded my Mac to Yosemite and this is because I always use DragonDictate rather than using the keyboard. I reckon I can write about three times faster using the dictation rather than using typing. In the end I decided to take the jump and give it a try. Of course I had a whole load of backups completed before I did anything. I use the application Superduper to create two separate backups of the system drive. And I also have Time Machine backup to fall back on if necessary too.

So I am quite pleased with the new operating system for my Mac even though there are one or two things that are not working on it and will never work on it probably. The reason that some things will not work is because of the absence of Bluetooth low energy version 4 on the Mac. So whichever way I tried to get it to do the job with the handoff and also with connecting up the phone for the SMS messages on the Mac it was no good at all.

Tomorrow I will be getting my new iPad air 2 and I will be held to try out the hand function from the iPhone 6 to the new iPad. Same thing with the SMS messages where I will be able to see text messages that were destined for my phone on my new iPad. I don't plan to upgrade my Mac for a year or two so I'm going out to stick with what I've got. I did toy with the idea of getting a USB dongle for the new Bluetooth for low-energy. The only thing is, that I heard on a podcast that this possible solution to the problem is not going to work.

Report from the beach - New iPhone case arrived, Drafts app problems, iPhone chewing the battery up quickly

The battery of my iPhone is just not lasting today. So it is a good job I have an external battery coming so I can charge it up when I am out and about. Getting an extra charger too - One for carrying with me to use elsewhere and the other to leave beside the bed. Two more lightening cables - One for the car and one for connecting to the Mac. Now I am sorted. I should have been working on the book today - It is a non fiction book about how to beat writers block with technology and a good and geeky writers workflow. I have been testing out apps on my iPhone and iPad to use alongside the apps I use on the iMac so I have a funnel of ideas and words that go into the writers app Scrivener. Scrivener is the best place to do professional quality writing like a book or long articles. My book goes into depth with the testing I have been doing on outliner apps and getting the data moving in between specific apps on the way to Scrivener. Then in the last chapters I have the final workflow which works for me. I have it laid out bare so that people can grab it and use it and suddenly get good at beating writers block.

I also got a new case for the iPhone 6 it has a clip on it so I can keep it on my belt. So I have no need to put it into a pocket where it could accidentally get sat upon. It also has a little clip on the back of the bumper style part of the case that goes round the phone, so that I can prop the phone up. I could use a small Bluetooth keyboard with it to have some mini workplace if I fancied doing some typing. I actually prefer to do as much of my writing using DragonDictate, but it is good to have options.

Apps for fitness and recording audio on the beach

I got the e-bike out and hit the road. Some errands to be done first but the beach and a dip in the sea beckoned. Trying out the MapMyRide app this morning. It isn't working as well as the Map my Walk app that I have been using. Something is not quite right. I have been fiddling with settings and I will sort it out so that it records my position with GPS as does the other app. First day of my holiday following a long old time at the campsite for the summer.

Sort of happy with the iPhone 6 - All of the features are great and the phone is lightening quick in comparison with what I had before. The battery is draining too fast for my liking and I will have to get a back up battery to use to save me on the days of heavy use. #iphone6

Switching from Android to IOS

after using android devices for just over a year I have been tempted to go back into the Apple fold. I have ordered a new iPhone 6 and I can't wait to get my hands on it. There are loads of new things in iOS eight which have brought me back such as the extensibility feature which allows me to work with the features of one application while still in another application. I can do things in the Paper Camera app from within the photos application which is pretty handy. I like that we can have widgets that we can drag down from the top in the notifications area although I don't think it's quite makes up for what I have been using with the Google Now.

I'm looking forward to using my favourite applications that are only available on iOS. These applications would be Drafts, OmniFocus, Clear and Day One. There are a number of other applications that I'm pleased to be using gain over on the iOS platform and the applications in general are better on the Apple side of the fence. This is one of the reasons why it sometimes seems that I was getting a second rate experience by using android.

The biggest problem with using Android was the fact that with my Galaxy S3 I didn't get any updates from the carrier to be to upgrade it to KitKat. I had to do some upgrading by using rooting and CyanogenMod and to be honest it was a lot of messing around that I didn't really enjoy doing.

I have already been trying out some of the new features in iOS 8 using my iPad and loving them. I can't wait to get my hands on the new iPhone 6 to be able to take advantage of the connections between iOS devices and there will also be the connection between the Mac when Yosemite becomes available. The added security that I will get by having Touch ID is going to be pretty handy especially seeing as they have been extensions being made across from my passwords application 1Password. #AppleWatch - I want one. I just can't help myself because I love technology and the thought of it being like living in the future. I watched the Apple announcement this morning on my computer and before I knew it I was lusting after one of these Apple watch devices to put on my wrist. It's going to seem a long wait between now and the beginning of next year when it becomes available to the general public.

Down at the beach watching the world go by

I like to make recordings for the Audioboo while I am sitting in my car or maybe on one of the park benches having a break from work at the campsite by the beach. It can be quite interesting at times to sit there and watch the world go by, including some of our guests at the campsite. Today I talk about an old lady at the campsite who has a boyfriend who is actually ancient. He always looks completely unsteady on his feet and he looks like he might get blown over by the smallest gust of a wind. As I record this podcast they are out walking their dog called Boira which is the word in Catalan for fog.

There are groups of kids walking around on the beach and I talk about how I find it interesting to watch how individuals operate within a group of people. I prefer to interact in smaller groups of people rather than larger groups were I find that nobody really gets to do anything that they want to do. To a certain extent people in large groups are like sheep that will follow around the dominant person in the group who chooses and decides for everybody else. I think I must be more of an individual for me to be able to bear that type of group arrangement.

Getting into Siri on my iPad

Learning what I can do with Siri. Found out that I could get directions to work from Siri and that I could correct the way it pronounces names when it gets it wrong. Mind you, even after getting it to correctly pronounce the name in the system when I asked it to send an email message to that person again it managed to get it wrong what's more.

I suppose Siri is still in the infancy stages of its development and is going to be getting better bit by bit so we will have to give it some leeway. Even so despite this small problem I have been very impressed in the way that it works and I expect to use it more often.

Birthday parties, A Visiting mom and my best friend passing away

What a June! I had a party to organise for my wife and my mom came for the party and my son was supposed to come too, but the bloody French air traffic controllers put a big spanner in the works.

The birthday party turned out te successful and my wife had a great time, Our friend Karl came to the party and also had a great time - Only thing is - Karl died from a heart attack the next day. So the end of the month was all about dealing with th eloss of my very best friend

Beach Camping site news

I work at a campsite in the town of Platja d'Aro on the Costa Brava Catalonia and here are a few snippets how things work in the campsite. I am a dog person and I talk about the german couple with the blind dog that left this morning and also about a Swiss couple with a lovely German Shepard type of dog. The dog is a big baby and cries when he can't see his owners.

On being a Geek photographer

it is fairly inevitable that if you get into photography you're going to be a bit of a geek to. There is so much good technology that you can use and play with them making your marvellous photos. You won't be able to resist using the manual settings even though 95% of the time you would get good photographs by using the automatic settings. There will be new lenses that will tempt you and you software that you can use to creatively enhance your photos before you share them. I say that digital photography is now at a point where it is complete and utter fun being a geek photographer.

Listening to Radio Drama and talking about writing and stuff

Listening to a radio play written by Jessica Brown, it was called Lost or Stolen. It made me think about what it is like to be a teenager and learning to get along with other people and working out how other people think and operate. Much of the dialogue was of the inner voice of each of these two characters and the conflict came from the difference between what they were thinking and what they ended up actually saying.

I also listen to other podcasts such as the Science Weekly, the Mac Cast, Wired Magazine Podcast and even the agricultural drama, The Archers.

I am working on writing my own stories at the moment and so I find it very interesting to see how other writers, authors have put together their novels or plays. After a year with Android - Back to iOS now?

I had a great year finding out how to do things with Android devices and I wrote an article the other day which was very positive. Then since then I have been tempted back to the iOS Apple way by some applications that I can only get on Android. I have Omnifocus on the iPad and there is now a new version for the Mac which syncs across. Not ever going to be on Android. I miss Twisted Wave and other audio apps on iOS and of course there is the fact that the movie editing on Android is rubbish.

I would be tempted by a Nexus 5 for a new phone but what if Apple come out with a bigger iPhone later this year, I do like a bigger phone as I have with the Galaxy S3.

Then there is the iPad Mini which would do everything I need. less messing about sliding between platforms. Having said that, sometimes it can be good to have choices of which device to use.

A rant about electric bicycles

I have just got myself an electric bicycle, in fact I bought a second-hand mountain bike and got an electric bicycle kick to fit to it and I'm very pleased with it. It means that I'm more likely to get out on his bicycle to get to work and back during the summertime. Without the electric motor fitted to the bicycle I am more likely to get into the car rather than the ride to work. I mean, who wants to get to work and be all tired and sweaty? Then on the way back home the last part of my journey is a climb up a very steep hill. I know that if I had to climb the steep hill every day of the week after being standing about work all day there is no way that I will do it. I will be getting the car out and spending the money on diesel same as I did before.

I put a post up onto Google plus about getting an electric bicycle and there was a guy who thought that there are no good reasons, one might be just one why anybody should have an electric bicycle. He even reckons that you should call it something else other than a bicycle because it has more than just pedal power.

Anyway another good reason to have a eBike is that it is fun. Nothing wrong with having some fun. I bet that guy is the sort of cyclist that doesn't stop at traffic lights when it is showing red.

often you will find that when you are dealing with larger companies you get worse customer service. Everytime you ring up you get talking to a different person and you feel like none of them are helping you when there is a problem that needs to be sorted out. Last year the company Nuance decided to delay giving me the software I had just paid them for guess they wanted to do a security check for some weird reason and then this year when I do the next upgrade I have another different problem with them.

This time the serial number which is another thing that is a pain in the bottom for the general user of software, doesn't work and I was the whole day not being able to use the software I had just paid for. In the end out of desperation while waiting for them to deal with the problem I gave myself the ability to use the software in trial mode. At least it is working now and I can once again do some dictation and I'm quite happy because the new version of the software is much better than the previous version. Still need to have a proper solution to this difficulty as you only get five uses of DragonDictate in trial mode. Hopefully that is going to be long enough for Nuance to be able to sort out the problem. As you can hear in the audio there are other annoying little things in the way that the company deals with customers. In this case, without a doubt the company Nuance could do better.

I sold a Bitcoin so I would have the cash to buy a NEX6 camera and I am thinking I might sell the old one for Bitcoin. I made a pile of money with the crypto currency appreciating in value since I bought them. I am definitely encouraged to hold on to what I have now for the longer term.

Also I started to mine some LiteCoin on my Mac. I don't think it is going to be successful but it did kind of work. There is a site which is giving LiteCoin away. You have to play a game which gives you a certain amount depending on how the numbers fall. I won 2 micro LiteCoin most times but I won 50 micro lite coin on one roll. Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

A new camera and how politics interferes with alternative energy

dog walking David goes for a spin around the neighbourhood late at night and takes the camera with him. Yes that's right, I just myself a new camera a Sony NEX-6 and of course I have to have a little bit of a chat about it. It is a marvellous camera and I was even able to take a few pictures at night-time. This was mainly due to the fact that the moonlight was giving me sufficient light to work with. During the day I had been in the harbour of the nearest seaside town and taking some lovely pictures of boats in the harbour and the seafront.

Weird alternative energy politics in Spain my wife had told me recently that the Spanish government were going to discourage people from putting solar panels on the roof and initially my thought was that she must be crazy. How on earth would a government have the cheek and stupidity to tell people that you can't put solar panels on your roof when the European community once more alternative energy generated. Is obviously important that we generate more free energy so that we cut our reliance upon the fossil fuels and also nuclear so why would the Spanish government want to stop people from putting up photovoltaic cells.

It seems that there is a huge debts within the Spanish electricity generation business it was either 26 million or 26 billion, whichever one it was it was a lot of money. The people that run the electricity companies and their cronies within the right-wing government wants the people of Spain the electricity customers to pay more money to cover this debt. They really don't want people to generate free electricity and so to have smaller bills and maybe even get paid for generating electricity. It seems to be that there is a change happening where these electric companies have to think in terms of being a distribution centre for electricity, however it is generated. I would like to see the generation of electricity at a micro scale fully supported and encouraged. That would seem to be the best long-term policy for the Earth and its inhabitants in my humble opinion.

I did see some articles about this Spanish electricity problem and it seems that my wife isn't crazy. It is true what she said and it makes her angry that the government should be doing this. She says that this level of debt probably isn't true and bases this upon the fact that the bosses and shareholders of these electricity companies pay themselves huge bonuses every year. I reckon my wife is probably right there. I mean how could they be paying themselves so much money when there is a huge debt that is required to be paid?

I spent over a day putting the custom ROM onto my phone. It didn't seem that there was going to be any way that the operating system was going to be updated by the phone carrier. As I was doing it it was a little bit hit and miss even though I was using something that was supposed to make it easier. I used an application called ROM Manager and it was supposed to boot me into the Clockworkmod recovery mode, but it kept going into the ordinary recovery mode. Not quite sure how I managed to get the job done in the end, but I did. Now that I have done it once I will be able to do it again and get closer to the latest version of Android.

I did the custom ROM on the phone so that I could get rid of the carrier installed junk and also the Samsung bloatware.

I recorded this using Audio Evolution Mobile and converted it to MP3 using Media Converter so that I could send it as an email to Audioboo. This worked really well and so much better than the official Audioboo rubbish software for Android.

Sliding in Android DayOne posts

DayOne is a Mac and iOS app and I don't want to have my stuff in two separate places because I use Android and iOS. SO I have worked out a way to get posts into Day One from my Android devices using Draft app, Dropbox syncing, then some Keyboard Maestro magic to automagically get the text into DayOne.

It works a treat because Keyboard Maestro is the dos doo dahs when it comes to Mac automation.

Getting arty farty with an air brush and a stylus

I had been meaning to buy myself a new airbrush for some time and I saw that there was a place that was having an offer on an air brush of the type that I wanted. So I am now looking forward to using this art tool to create some artwork with acrylic paints on in a canvas or board. I also saw an offer for a stylus that I can use with the iPad it is the Wacom brand and style of stylus that gives pressure sensitivity which makes it much better for drawing lines. the pressure sensitivity gives you a lot more finesse and control over or your drawing, the same sort of quality that you could achieve using the welcome tablets.

I often feel that art chose me rather than the other way round. When you're a creative sort of person then it is only inevitable that you create art of whatever sort. I have gone from creating fine art, paintings and printing to photography and video are now once again I have the urge to splash some paint around.

Watching the television series called Ringer with the actress Sarah Michelle Geller in it, it seems to be a low-budget series and there are one or two holes in the script.

Why is it that women of a certain age turn into Crazy Cat Ladies and have the constant urge to feed all of the wild animals in the district? Mother-in-law's, neighbours and women at the campsite all want to feed the poor little kittens, pigeons and other vermin.

I followed a YouTube tutorial showing me how to root my Nexus 7, it really wasn't too difficult. I rooted it so that I could use some software that wouldn't work otherwise, although I have to admit is not working terribly well at the moment. It seems that I have a little bit more twiddling and fiddling to do.

I have been restoring from backup the Nexus seven following rooting the device. Needed to route it so that I would be able to use it for creating android tutorials. I also had to download some iOS updates for the iPad and for the iPhone. It seems to be going well but taking a very long time. talking about getting ready for making tutorials using the Nexus 7, and the need to root the device and to set up other applications such as cam scanner. I really like the idea of going paperless and I have been using scanner applications on my iPhone and also now my android devices so that I can scan a document and get rid of the paper. I do have a system where I can put a scan into a certain folder and it will take it and put it into Evernote for me. This way I always know where the scan has gone to if I want to look at it later. I use an automation on my Mac to be able to do this.

Still working at the campsite and I will be there for a another two weeks. I'm looking forward to having some time to myself to be able to get all of things done that I need to get done. I also have a TEFL course to finish. I might have two forget about everything else and just concentrate on that for as long as it takes to finish the job. Otherwise I will get back onto making videos again for YouTube and I will have extend the online course once more.

Spanish knife man - Nexus 7 and iOS 7 day

I tried to make a recording and the traditional noises of the knife sharpening man came by. I like the sound of it so I continued. This was on the day when I have been setting up iOS 7 and also the Nexus 7. The Nexus 7 I got so that I can do more android application tutorials and it is a lovely wee device.

When I had so much to do to work out how to use as I set it up with the iPad with the new operating system and the new device needing some love from the same day I could have done without the Samsung Galaxy S3 crashing on me. So I had to spend time fixing my phone when I had new toys I wanted to play with.

Campsite quiet as the grave, a terrible movie

I start off by talking about the state of play at the campsite where I work while I am taking my break. It really is as quiet as the grave at the moment with many of the campers that stay for the season are packing up their stuff ready to go. The campsite closes on 12 October and with the poor weather over the last week people are deciding to get packed just in case there's more rain coming.

I make YouTube videos, mostly tutorials showing people how to do things with the Mac, the iPad and also android applications. The problem is that while I am working during the summertime I don't have a lot of free time to be able to make these videos, so I complain a little bit about that. When I get home I am completely knackered and all I am fit for is to sit on the sofa watching some television. I started to watch a film called Battle: Los Angeles which looked like he was going to be a decent sci-fi film to watch. At least it looked good from the very short clips that we used to advertise it, because in reality it was a pile of rubbish that just didn't have any story. I gave it 10 minutes to try and grab my attention and it failed miserably.

Despite my saying that the campsite was as quiet as the grave, as I was talking a couple of auto caravans arrived. Also I mention a lovely French family that arrived that had a small child that was as cute as anything. She was probably about two years old or less and was waving and saying hello.

I start by talking about the goings on at the campsite and then move on to the chat which started by religious crap appearing on my Facebook timeline. These theists were not impressed or swayed by logic, reason and common sense of the argument. It was amazing the amount of babble and waffle that was spouted in this discussion by the god squad people. I was threatened with Hell but at least they stayed civil whilst babbling incoherently. I feel sorry for these delusional people who have been subjected to brainwashing from an early age. I call religion out as wilful ignorance. They know that what they say can't be true but they go ahead an say they believe it anyway.

I find it extremely tedious when there's people that really have no idea what is coming jump on every possible leak or made up story and talk about it ad nauseam.

I do love technology, but it is not really about the hardware, it is more about how the software helps you get things done in your life during your day.

I had a weird email from my aunt that was quickly followed by a weird question in my messaging app from my mother. My mother wanted to know if I had health problems, I don't and I had to wait till the next day to find out how this weird rumour all started.

I have been into photography and for rather a long time starting off with a film camera that would have been the point-and-shoot and moving onto the film DSLR with an Olympus. Now I'm using a Canon 600D and I use it mainly for shooting video although I did take a lot of photographs on my trip to Estonia.

I do sell some of my photos through the Fotolia website and I upload photographs to the Flickr account as well as to other social networks.

With this Canon camera that I have now I can do quite a lot of things with it, but I found out the other day that there was a lot of controls within the camera that I hadn't actually bothered to find out about. These cameras are very congregated and worth spending the time exploring all of the menus and settings that are available. I have promised myself some quality time with this camera pushing the envelope of what I can do with it

Busiest time at campsite and dealing with a broken wrist

this is a Audioboo with me walking the dog late at night and as per usual the neighbour's dog is following along too. Talking about things at the camping site and some of the cheeky people and some of the nice people that I meet as part of the job. We caught a cheeky person that was coming into use the Site facilities for free. Then one of the long-term campsite customers was demonstrating his ability to tell porkies and bend the campsite rules with regard to getting his car into the campsite for parking.

I talk about some of the customers that are here and the fact that I kind of miss them a little when they go home because they are so friendly. Then there is another pair of couples from Holland and one of them has ended in hospital in Barcelona which is not a great way to spend some of your holiday in Catalonia. However pretty the nurses are!

Running with Devils - Correfoc

As part of the Festa Major in St Feliu de Guixols there will be the entertainment of Correfoc. A group of devils run through the town spinning fireworks above their heads. I missed it again and it is so much fun and excitement. A super Catalan tradition worth seeing. I have already seen it many times and it will be around again next year.

There are some fun Traditions at Estonian weddings and the bride and groom get tested on the way from the wedding reception. They They have to prove their suitability for being married by being able to chop wood and do things with a baby. With such cold temperatures in winter the ability to have a warm house is truly important. Fun for the happy couple and great entertainment for the guests who get to watch. Not so good for the traffic in the town as these tasks can be set anywhere on the journey from the wedding to the reception.

The trip to Estonia part one

First part is when I am on the plane going from Girona to Tallinn and mostly there is the noise of the plane, but you can still here the voice over it.

I was delighted that my two sons came to pick us up at the airport. It made it really easy to get to Haapsalu and I give some quick mentions to the places we saw in the town before we went off to the wedding.

with my son getting married he used a website to get an RSVP from people that are going to it. How very modern! He asked respondents to also suggest three songs to add to the track for the wedding and in this Audioboo I tell you my choice of three tracks. It is quite difficult to choose either what you think is going to be most suitable or just your favourite music that will fit the circumstances. I like lots of different types of music but in the end I went for a couple of old favourites and one very modern hip-hop track.

My wife also chose another Spanish track which is really quite beautiful and I'm looking forward to having a dance with her at the wedding while this music is playing.

Part of this Audioboo I'm talking about how to encrypt emails using GPG tools and specifically in this I am looking at encrypting just a part of the message and using the services menu on Mac OS X to get the job done.

One my favourite regular emails in is the GizMag emerging technology magazine. I love seeing all the new bits of technology that are being invented and created. Some of the things are mere prototypes and some of things are actual items that are going to be put into use and hopefully will make our lives better in some way or other. There is a huge range of topics that get covered, sometimes it is more towards the architectural, sometimes towards the computing and things along with things that are completely hard science biochemistry and the like.

I put a new camera application on my Samsung Galaxy S3 and I found that in respect of the front camera it is not as good as the previous application I was using. And to have the 720 HD resolution and 640 -and the wrong aspect ratio, and the previous application.

sometimes I amaze myself being able to speech Spanish and be understood the whole day long while I am working at the campsite. As a language I still have a preference for German and sometimes I get the chance to practice while I am at work.

No shirts were bought and only a couple of shirts were seen in the market. I went to see the movie Man of Steel and I quite enjoyed it for the story and for the visual effects. There was some of it that I didn't catch because I watched it dubbed into Spanish. I was though quite disgusted with the over to register propaganda in the movie for that idiot Christian delusion, typical Hollywood. Otherwise the movie was quite entertaining with plenty of action and a reasonable storyline and Superman being presented more as a tortured soul. It was quite good that Lois Lane was given a active and very positive role.

I also complain about the new tyres I got put on to my car and the funny noise that I have to listen to now as I'm driving. It is in the garage being fixed while I am at work.

Complaining like old git about my bad back. I don't know what I did to bugger it up, but it is really painful today whenever I move.

Campsite crazy and dog walking

This weekend is the crazy weekend of the San Juan Festival in Spain and the campsite is completely full of mostly young people looking to have a party. There will be parties and lots of fireworks and probably quite a bit of drinking. Indeed we are even having the family around here today, well this evening for the usual get-together.

Recorded this while I was out walking with my dog, the neighbour's dog and my sister-in-law's dog. It was a good job that I took them out as one of them was leaving little messages and they are better left outside rather than in the house. My dog knows better than to poop inside the house, but my sister-in-law's dog is not so well trained.

I recorded this using my Galaxy S3 and the application which I am attempting to master so that I can have good recordings. This time it worked out much better with the sound quality using the built-in microphone on the phone. I didn't apply any adjustments or filters to the audio after when I edited it on my Mac before uploading it.

in this Audioboo I'm talking about the phone I'm having with my Samsung Galaxy S3. I am really enjoying using the android operating system and my new phone and really getting into finding good application to use to do the things that I do. The latest thing that I have been doing is to add some timelapse photography applications and I have been trying the free ones that are the ad supported or are trial versions of one that you have to pay for. Those ones tend to have a limit on the size of a video that you can record either by length or by size of the frame and when I found one that I like I will upgrade it to having no adverts or get the pro version as in paid for version.

I have been struggling with getting a good quality audio from the audio recording applications I have been using I got one called Audio Evolution Mobile which is quite good but I do need to work out how to set it up right. I seem to have difficulty in setting the gain for whichever microphone I'm using. then there are others such as pocket wave pad and easy voice recorder. These generally will let me record audio but some of them don't let me do any editing with it and there are times when I am out and about and I would like to edit the audio as I go. At least with the one I have chosen it is a multiple track recorder which means I can mix other audio into it to get something more podcast like all professional sounding.

I am really disgusted by the killing of an off duty soldier in London this week. Stupid religious beliefs and in particular this time Islam is the cause of it. It seems that Islam is a religion of hate and it's pretty disgusting that the apologists for the religion say that it is a religion of peace. It really doesn't bode well for society if this sort of behaviour is encouraged or allowed in the guise of multiculturalism. If the English defence league has their way there's going to be a tribal war on the streets of England as there has been already, to a certain extent in Sweden. I am all for live and let live even if people want to have their silly religious beliefs.

I have been teaching my mom had to do things with the iPad while she has been here to visit me in Spain. There is the five finger pinch to get back to your home screen which is a really useful extra gesture that you can use with your iPad. Then there is the four finger swipe upwards to see what actually have running. Also you can do a four finger swipe to the left to move between apps that you have to open.

I have introduced a few people to the joys of audioboo and because of that I now can talk for eight minutes instead of the five minutes.

I have been listening to podcasts on one hand I have been listening to the archers and on the other hand I have been listening to the scathing atheist. You don't get much further apart from that in terms of religious views. What the archers really needs is to have a good forthright atheist somewhere in the story.

Also they could do with being fewer stories about babies being born. I suspect that the writers for the archers at the moment are mostly women.

Today I wrote an article about my green screen studio and I also used the studio to record a YouTube video for the front page of my presence. Of course, in the article I talked about the microphones that are used and also my three point lighting.

I see on the news that Sir Alex Ferguson has decided to retire. I start to waffle on about the effect that what's the news can have on you with all the bad journalism that's out there. Why can't we have a news channel that brings us just good news with the odd thing that is bad if it is something that we really should know about. I feel sure that some of these claims that are being made of the entertainment stars from the 70s are a little bit dodgy. Some of the things that are supposed to have taken place, claims that are being made are bad enough that they should have been reported on the day that they happened.

in this Audioboo I am talking about the omnipotent of tea in England. Many people see T tea as being the panacea to all ills, whatever happens to a person in life the answer is to put the kettle on and have a nice cup of tea.

I made a video this morning next to the harbour and Platja d'Aro and I used my new microphone which is a clip on microphone I have connected to my Zoom H2 recorder. When I got back to base I was able to use the Final Cut Pro synchronisation feature which allows me to synchronise some video to audio. This feature really works very well indeed and I had great sound to go with my video that I have now posted up to my video blogging channel on YouTube.

I also talk about having to go to the shop to buy some mustard and of course I want to have some good Coleman's English mustard. You know the yellow very strong stuff that as a good bite to it.

There was a man near to me who was scouring the rocks to find seafood which he was probably going to take home and eat. If you like that sort of thing fresh seafood taken from the beach is probably a delicacy. There were also fishermen, campers with their caravans and Summer businesses getting ready for the summer season. there was also a boat in the water that had dropped anchor and could have been therefore fishing or could have been therefore diving, I don't know what couldn't get a good look.

I found a dog yesterday that had been abandoned and we fed him and got the police to get someone to look after him. Only a couple of months ago we found two puppies by the side of the road and we had to find someplace that would take them in. It is the financial crisis that people are deciding to give up their dog and they're too lazy to get them properly looked after, the bastards!

Headache, Mental Maths and iPhone to Android

So today I have been doing the Audioboo after line down on my sofa suffering with a headache. I started watching Dexter series 7 and I got halfway through the episode before my eyes close completely and I began to snore loudly.

We have had some very changeable weather today with it being very cloudy and grim looking this morning, but now it is sunny and we have nice bright blue skies. Because of the wind I didn't do the recording of the Audioboo was outside walking the dog as per usual and I have recorded in the studio or office.

I could have done it this morning while I was at work, while it was quiet but instead I was learning some mental mathematics tricks. It is quite fun to learn these mental arithmetic tricks and interesting thing is that you work from the left to the right rather than a way that she was taught in school which was to go from the units on the right through the tens to hundreds etc.

iPhone to Android

I really do need a phone that would allow me to always have the ability for dictation. I can dictate with my iPhone but only within one application, that is the free Dragon Dictation app. It would be nice to have the full access to dictation in all of the applications I use. This is because I have become so accustomed to dictation using DragonDictate on my Mac.

Looking at the prices of the new iPhones the 4S or the iPhone 5 and then comparing with the price of a Samsung Galaxy S3, it makes the Galaxy S3 very tempting. The only problem is that, is that I am so deeply into the iPhone market with all of the apps that I have bought over the years. I imagine that I could get away with finding some of the applications that use to have android equivalents. I will have to have a real think about what I really do with my iPhone and whether that would convert it very well to using Android. With me being such a Apple fan head would be a large and drastic jumping of ship. I do love my iPad and I do tend to carry it with me wherever I go around the house and it is nice to have all my stuff that I do on one Apple device also available on the run ever else I'm using. So I can go to my Mac, my iPhone on my iPad and everything is there ready for me to use. Even so, the price difference between the iPhone 4S or the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S3 being around €200, it is extremely tempting.

I bought two more applications from the app store today one was called Bossjock and the other one was audiobus and I'm even thinking I might buy another one called MultiTrack DAW although for the moment I could probably get away with using the garage band application instead. And then there another application which looked interesting called Loopy so as you can see I'm really getting deep into the audio applications and I like the idea of being out to create podcasts on the go using iOS.

In this audioboo I talked about going to the cinema to watch the movie Oblivion. I was able to understand what was going on because I read a synopsis before I went, which was just well because of the fact I watched the film in Spanish. My Spanish is fairly good for understanding what is going on, but then sometimes if I'm tired quite a lot of it will fly across the top of my head. I enjoyed the epic quality of the movie. A large expansive movie like that should be watched at the cinema. It also reminded me of a summer I went to see in Bradford which was extremely large. IMax cinema with a wrap around screen.

Twisted Wave on the iPad with the iRig microphone

This morning I have bought the application Twisted Wave to use on the iPad for recording audio. I have the iRig microphone which is a very good microphone for using with iOS devices and I have compared it with recording directly into my iMac using a Sampson condenser microphone. I am quite pleased with the results from the iRig microphone on the iPad, it just needs a little bit of tweaking to give it a richer more for sound. I can do this by applying a couple of filters and may be using a dynamics processor.

Most often I record my Audioboo's directly into my iPhone and while I am out walking the dog, but sometimes it is quite nice to sit down as the computer and use good software and better microphones.

What sort of microphones are you use when you are recording your Audioboo's?

Lusting after a GH3 and trying to find a leak in the terrace

It's Monday morning and I had a great night's sleep after doing a weekend of working through the night. In this Audioboo on talking about my lusting after a Panasonic GH3 which is a mirror less camera or it is an evil camera, evil standing for electronic viewfinder interchangeable lenses. I have a Canon 600 D and it's quite a good camera fact it is a very good camera but I think the Panasonic would be preferable if I could get money together to buy one.

I have had to go upstairs to the terrace to check it out for leaks, on Friday it hissed down with rain all day long and the ceiling in the living room looked a little bit damp. A couple of years ago it was worse and whole load of water came through and ruined the television. We did a pile of fixing up but somehow there is still water getting in where it shouldn't.

There is more rain due have the next few days according to the weather forecast. I might have to find another way of protecting the house from the weather.

Evernote, Drobo problem and getting some sleep during the day

Still getting Drobo sorted out and today I think that I may have got all of the data copied across to the other drive. The Drobo did seem to be doing something funny today so I shall be glad to have it all back in proper working order. Pleased to see that Evernote are taking a responsible attitude towards our data on their servers. Everybody has to reset all of their passwords within the Evernote ecosystem. A bit of a pain, but it's good to be safe. I am still struggling with the change from daytime living to nighttime working. I think I got just about enough sleep today but it was a little bit broken. Working at night is not too bad, it is a change from one type of working to another that is difficult.

Working at night in a campsite. It is a little bit boring but the job has to be done. It's a 12 hour shift and I shall be very glad to get back to my bed when I get home. It is very difficult to change from a daytime routine into a night routine I've got two nights here working at the weekend. I have a chainsaw which I really must get and sell because it is sitting in the garage doing nothing. The only trouble is is that it is very difficult to actually start and I wished I hadn't bought in the first place. The electric one that I bought to replace this one is so much easier to deal with.

My mom tells me she's going to buy herself an iPad mini and I'm saying that she might be as well to wait until April. There is a chance that Apple will come out with a version 2 of the device in April or May.

I make a mention of the crazy Americans and their love for guns and shooting people and how I wouldn't like to live in a post-apocalyptic zombified America.

The death of a good actor and talking about using technology

Richard Briers was a really good comedy actor and in fact a good actor all around, including Shakespeare and other hard dramas. He died yesterday and I will always remember him being here in the comedy she is called "The Good Life".

I have been making videos over the weekend for YouTube for the Wizardgold channel. I made one video which was about how to use Amadeus Pro to record audio from your Mac which was in response to a question from a viewer. I made another one about how to use gestures in the application ArtStudio and also had to make a custom brush. That should be a really useful video because the documentation for the application is sadly lacking in terms of telling you how to make a custom brush.

I also mention that I use services such as scoop .it and story to promote my videos. What you can do is to bring in other sources to put together with your videos and tweets and web articles.

I submitted the feed for this Audioboo to iTunes so hopefully my fans will be able to follow this macro podcast, five minutes it's time in iTunes. It usually takes a couple of days to get the podcast accepted.

I will be in school tomorrow being an actor with the tourism students. I will have to pretend to be unhappy with some aspects of a hotel and they will have to sort me out. I mention Valentines day because there will be activities based on the theme.

Today I am testing Drafts which looks like it might be a useful app after all. I can use it to create text files in drop box by using special actions. Works alright, amazingly.

No Internet for most of the day

When you have been without your Internet for most of the day, you can understand why some people would say that having Internet is a basic human right. I thought at first the problem was due to a virtual private network that I was using that was not functioning properly. I spent at least an hour fiddling and twiddling with the settings for the VPN. It was when I checked the phone and the phone was also not working that confirmed the problem was elsewhere. So I took the dog out for a walk and went to find the technical guys of the telegraph pole to ask them when they would get it working again for me.

It took a couple of hours and a second visit to them to get the job fixed and finished. Now I have Internet again and I can smile once more.
