Bidding farewell is never easy, but the time has come for me to conclude this beautiful blogging adventure and to begin a new one. I started NJAPD over two years ago because I needed a creative project and to talk about some of my favourite things in life: fashion, style and travels. I enjoyed every moment of it: I'm grateful for the amazing people I met (in person and virtually) during this journey and for the opportunities that NJAPD brought to me. I would like to thank you all for your support, visits, comments, advices and kindness! I hope that we will stay in touch (my email will remain active) and you never know, one day I might come back...

I wish you and your dear ones all the best for the festive season and may the New Year bring you everything you wish for!

Believe it or not, the last weeks have been so busy that I have not even started drafting my usually very long and detailed Christmas letter, which normally takes up to two months of 'hard thinking'. However, I'm never short of ideas when it comes to drop a suggestion (or three...) to dear old Santa. Therefore, voilà a couple of things I would not mind finding under my Christmas tree: a cosy and soft cashmere piece from Peter Hahn to get me through the winter months in style; another pair of Roger Vivier as I cannot have too many of them; and - if I had not received one already courtesy of the talented Nat at Made in Home - a beautiful book clutch as this is an accessory that would make any outfit unique. On a lazy week-end, I love to relax and take a stroll in the park. Here I'm wearing a new must of my casual outfits, the Uniqlo leggings trousers. They come in every possible colour, they are very comfortable and they have the perfect fit. This is an easy basic that I highly recommend!

One of the good things about living in Brussels is that you are very close to many capitals and interesting cities. A few weeks ago, we went on a day trip to Amsterdam. We stayed just for a few hours, but it was enough to enjoy a walk amongst the canals, a delicious cheese sandwich at De Kaaskamer, and a visit to the unmissable Van Gogh Museum.

At the moment I am actually looking for a new coat as the Marni piece I'm wearing in this post - while very dear to me as it is another present from my mom - will not keep me warm during the notoriously hostile Belgian winter. Mr. NJAPD has been threatening forever to get me a coat made of Casentino wool cloth, a quintessentially Tuscan piece that is very beautiful, but a bit too 'classic' for my taste. So provided I can withstand Mr. NJAPD's next Christmas attack, the coat hunting season is still open and suggestions would be welcomed!

Let's conclude this week of Parisian posts (a bit of culture here and my noir outfit here) with some snapshots of the beautiful Roger Vivier exhibition "Virgule, etc. - In the Footsteps of Roger Vivier", open until 18 November at the Palais de Tokyo. Everyday shoes, the most extravagant vintage creations (including my personal 'highlight': the YSL shoes designed for Catherine Deneuve in Belle de Jour!) and colourful drawings, this retrospective is a great tribute to one of the best shoe designer of the last century.

A (FASHIONABLE) DAY IN PARIS

For me it is very easy to find an excuse to organise a trip to Paris. For instance last week-end we decided to spend one day in the French capital as I could not miss "Virgule, etc. - In the Footsteps of Roger Vivier", a retrospective exhibition to celebrate the shoe designer Roger Vivier, open until 18 November at the Palais de Tokyo. From my past posts you might know how much my feet love this label so you could imagine how happy they were wandering among dozens of beautiful vintage and contemporary Roger Vivier shoes (be ready for a separate post about the 140 models elegantly displayed like pieces of art). It was the first time I visited the Palais de Tokyo and I loved the vibe of its immense, bright spaces. Another positive point was its hip restaurant Tokyo Eat, which offers nice fusion cuisine (but nothing Japanese, in case you wonder) in a nearly industrial decor. Furthermore, I could not believe my luck when I realised that I was few meters away from Palais Galliera and "ALAÏA", the first retrospective dedicated to the true fashion genius of Azzedine Alaïa, open until 26 January. Alaïa's most iconic body-con designs were beautifully displayed like statues and it was possible to admire the incredible craftsmanship and unique aesthetic of this imaginative couturier. All in all, I could not ask for a more fashionable day!

MADE IN HOME BOOK CLUTCH

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a girl in possession of a good wardrobe, must be in want of a fashionable book clutch. This beautiful creation by my talented friend Nat at Made in Home reunites three of my favourite things: a hand-made unique piece, my favourite novel and a bag that will make any outfits special. You might remember that many posts ago I mentioned that Nat and I were talking about a creative project: I explained to her my love for book clutches à la Olympia Le Tan and she accepted the challenge to make this wonderful piece for me. Nat is planning to make these clutches on an ad hoc basis and Cee at Coco & Vera will soon be the lucky owner of another minaudière. One of the (many) good things about the CÉLINE's Cabas bag is that its structure is so light and the leather so soft that you can fold it and hold it as you like. So a shopper can easily become an oversized clutch, and this is indeed the kind of origami I like the most.

Retail therapy always works for me and nothing works better than shopping for make-up in general and lipsticks in particular: the feel good (and look good...) effect is sure, immediate and kind to the bank account. You might have noticed that I am a big fan of the "natural eyes-bold lipstick" make-up and I would like to share with you my current favourites.

When it comes to classic scarlet shades, MAC's Ruby Woo (praised here) and Giorgio Armani Beauty's Lip Maestro in n. 400 (mentioned here) are my reds of choice: they give an amazing, sophisticated touch and they suit the majority of skin-tones. For a subtle purple, I go for Chanel's Rouge Coco in Venise, which was my signature color before the beginning of my affair with the above mentioned reds. For every day I love wearing the discreet pink of Indian Rose by Tom Ford, and if I want to brighten my day I go for his orange-y Ginger Wild (both reviewed here).

INTO THE FALL

The fact that outside is pouring rain gives me an excuse to spend more time in, finally enjoying some time for myself doing some research for beautiful decor inspirations and looking for a blanket that can keep me warm for the coming months. It is that period of the year when temperatures are going down and days are getting shorter. I am not complaining and I'm adjusting to the transition, also from a fashion perspective. In my opinion, fall/winter wardrobe gives a wider choice of clothes, fabrics and pieces to mix, and give you the opportunity to differentiate your style even more. As you might have noticed from the last outfit posts, I have a bit of a 'sweater moment', which continues with this classic grey piece. For a brief moment the rain stopped so Mr. NJAPD and I decided to brave the elements to shoot what possibly is our last post without a coat/parka/pashmina on. And there was not better location than a colourful wall to cheer up these gloomy days!

(MALIN+GOETZ) DETOX FACE MASK

Last week-end, I went to Senteurs d'Ailleurs, an amazing store that stocks the best perfume and cosmetics labels from all around the world, and they introduced me to the American skincare brand (MALIN+GOETZ). This NYC apothecary offers a 'unisex' line that "blends natural botanicals with gentle technologies" and that is specific for sensitive skin.

I tried the (MALIN+GOETZ) detox face mask, which is one of their best selling products, and after using it for a week, I completely understood the reason: it is the perfect all-in-one product for all skin types that ensures deep skin cleansing, great hydration and a brightening complexion in five minutes.

The fact that it is so easy to use is indeed a great plus: once applied, the gel immediately becomes a foam that you leave just for few minutes - during which you can really feel the product working! - and then you easily remove it with warm wash cloth and water. I think that this mask will become part of my beauty essentials, especially during my travels!

MADE IN BELGIUM: JESSIE LECOMTE

This post is dedicated to a very talented Belgian designer I had the pleasure to meet few weeks ago: Jessie Lecomte. Since her graduation from the prestigious Antwerp Academy (yep, the same one that trained the 'Antwerp Six' collective), Jessie has been collaborating with several Belgian fashion houses and in 2007 she launched her eponymous label.

When I visited her studio in Brussels, Jessie showed me her fall/winter collection "Structured Chaos", which is inspired by video arts and world religions. Dresses, coats and capes - that are the key pieces of her current line - all have an alluring mix of psychedelic digital prints and hand-made embroideries. Contemporary art and Japanese culture are recurring themes of her creations and indeed you can see her passions for 'origami' in the pleats and drapes that delicately adorn many pieces of her collection.

Jessie's philosophy is to create unique clothes that women can wear for a very long time and that nobody else has, as she said: "I like when I see that it is not possible to make 300 pieces of a certain model in one day". All Jessie's pieces are hand-made, and she produces only 20 silhouettes per collection. She is very proud (and rightly so) of the fact that that her clothes are designed and made in Belgium, using fabrics from Italy, France or the Netherlands that she personally choses.

MANSUR GAVRIEL

Everybody is talking about Mansur Gavriel. Personally, I have to blame my friend Marta at Fashion Caramel if I discovered and immediately fell in love with the creations of the NY-based designers Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel. When I met Marta for lunch I told her I was looking for a simple black bag, and she said the magic words: "Mansur Gavriel, have a look at this label". I checked their website and indeed it was love at first sight.

Mansur Gavriel purses are the perfect example of understated chic. Made of Italian vegetable tanned leather, these bags have a clean, minimal aesthetic that is cleverly complemented by a brightly coloured interior coating. The small scale and artisanal production approach made me like these creations even more, and make them quite hard to find: they are selling out everywhere and in Europe they are only available at NET-A-PORTER.

After three weeks of intense thinking to find an excuse to get a self-present - always difficult, I know - I decided to go for the small leather tote in black & fiamma. And it is even better than I expected: while the design is quite structured, the leather is very soft and the bag comes with a handy detachable strap wallet. Additional bonus (as if it was needed...): the pouch was not mentioned in the NET-A-PORTER description so I dropped an email to the Mansur Gavriel contact email to check it out, and you can imagine my joy when I got a prompt answer by Rachel herself! Amazing totes and excellent customer service, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

THE SWEATER SEASON

We have officially entered a new season and fall always brings the challenge of the mid-season wardrobe. I was browsing through the web looking for inspiration and the lovely blog of Laura at Wearing It Today came to my rescue. In a recent post she talked about statement sweaters and, to prove the point, she was wearing a great piece by GAP. Needless to say that, shortly after, a GAP's striped crew pullover and a windowpane pullover (both in navy) landed in my wardrobe. They are made with a light and very soft wool, perfect for the first chills of September. I followed Laura's styling advice to pair it with a statement necklace, and I'm sure I will be wearing these sweaters a lot throughout the season.

ONE DAY IN BOLOGNA

Back in July, I spent one day in Bologna with one of my dearest friends, Barbara. She currently lives in Shanghai (I visited her precisely one year ago!), we do our best to meet up even if for a few hours whenever and wherever it is possible and the beautiful city of Bologna was the chosen location for our summer reunion.

Packed with history, culture (it is home to the oldest university in the world) and friendly, lively people, Bologna is one of my favourite Italian cities. The best way to discover it is just walking around, following the path of its endless portici - its architectural trademark - which total 38 km just in the city's historical centre.

Bologna is also famous for its delicious food and culinary tradition, and we had the pleasure to eat in some amazing places that I would warmly recommend: Eataly, located at the first floor of a great bookshop, for a taste the best of the local cuisine; Il Gelatauro for one of the best pistacchio ice-creams I've ever had; and Colazione Da Bianca, a lovely cafe & restaurant, ideal for any meal of the day, which I discovered thanks to Erica at Blue is in Fashion this Year.

Wandering around the small streets of the Ghetto, we discovered a wonderful little shop, Confezioni Paradiso, full of beautiful, handmade clothes and accessories by the textile designer Emanuela Paradiso. From the quirky canvas handbags and costume necklaces to the delicate collars, I wanted to buy everything! At the end, we got two bracelets from Emanuela's charm collection, a lovely souvenir to remember this trip.

I would like to conclude this post with a fashion note for a good cause: the canvas "Ka" bag that accompanied me during this trip (the one I am sporting in the first picture), was designed by Barbara's sister, Claudia, and handmade by a cooperative of Nepalese women. Claudia is working for the Associazione Volontari Senza Frontiere – Volunteers Without Borders (AVSF) in development projects to help the local communities in Nepal. PALERMO

One of the many reasons that inspired me to visit Palermo last May was "I Beati Paoli", a beautiful historic novel by Luigi Natoli set in the Sicily of the XVIII century and one of the best books I read this year. In this story, Natoli describes at length the city of Palermo - its palaces, markets and streets - so I was very curious to discover the places I enjoyed reading so much about.

Palermo is a fascinating city. Its history span 3000 years and there you can admire any art style you can think of: Arab-Norman, gothic, renaissance and the stunning Sicilian baroque. In Palermo it is also easy to see the most opulent and grandiose architecture left nearly in ruin, but this is the kind of decadent charm you experience when you wander in the alleys of the old city. We stayed for four days, during which we walked non-stop in the areas around Via Maqueda: there are so many churches, palaces and places to visit that sometimes you don't know where to turn.

We spent the last day for a visit to Monreale and its magnificent Cathedral in the morning and we saved an afternoon for a walk on the beach in Mondello, between its Art Nouveau villas and the crystal-clear water of the Sicilian sea.

But one of the best parts of the trip certainly was the local food. From the lively traditional markets that animate the streets of the city centre (the mercato del Capo was my absolute favourite) to the small trattorie, from the street food kiosks to the old cafes and pasticcerie, food is everywhere and it is the best you will ever try. So I have to share some recommendations: Ferro di Cavallo for the excellent local cuisine (choose randomly from the menu as everything is just delicious), Bar Touring for the biggest arancina (fried rice balls) in town, Caffe Spinnato for the amazing cannoli siciliani, Pasticceria Amato for the cassata siciliana and other almond pastry specialties, Pasticceria Cappello for basically anything, and if you are into street food don't miss Nino u' Ballerino. I could not leave Palermo without having breakfast (with croissant with ricotta and chocolate chips!) at Pasticceria Mazzara, one of the oldest cafes of Palermo and the place where Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa wrote The Leopard.

I have loved Sicily since the first time I went there ten years ago and I must say I love it even more after visiting the magnificent city of Palermo. Allow me to quote - ehm - Arnold Schwarzenegger when I say: "I'll be back".

Maybe my love for ballerina flats comes from the many years of ballet I did when I was a kid. Despite my resolution to wear heels more often, I always end up buying flat shoes: I simply cannot resist their discreet elegance. You can imagine I was over the moon when Freed of London - a label that I know very well from my past ballet years and current days as flats-lover - approached me to introduce their first collection of outdoor ballet flats.

Freed of London's reputation for crafting amazing dance shoes is really well-known and, since they had a lot of demand to launch an outdoor collection, they decided to work with some of their loyal customers to develop 16 new designs, which were launched earlier this year. From the chic Prudence to the quirky Leopard Victoria and the classy Jennifer, in this debut collection there is a ballerina to please anyone's taste.

I decided to go for the Eve model - styled below in a casual outfit worn last week-end - as I was missing a 'snakeskin' piece and I thought that their beige and brown colours would make them the perfect transeasonal shoes. And they are not just pretty shoes: they are so comfortable that I have been wearing them non-stop ever since I received them. The Freed of London's Ballet Flat Collection might be accompanied by some limited editions in a few months time, and I'm sure this label will be a great source of inspiration and temptation for me!

STELLA JEAN IN THE SPOTLIGHT

The 'skirt embargo' proclamed by Mr. NJAPD after my last shopping trip to Paris fell miserably when I put my eyes on this Stella Jean skirt. Its voluminous yet feminine design and its thick fabric won me over in less than a minute.

Known for the ethnic vibe of her creations - a true celebration of her Creole heritage - Stella Jean is one of the most promising and original designers of my country. I have been dreaming about her pieces ever since I spotted one of her skirts on Valentine Avoh's blog, and I could not believe my luck when I found this beauty at the summer sales.

Here I am wearing it during trip to Civita di Bagnoregio, a picturesque village known as "the dying town", but I have many ideas to style it also for the colder months of the coming fall/winter, so be prepared to see it a lot!

At my return from the summer holiday, I found a nice present waiting for me at home: a pretty pink package from The Body Shop in which I was delighted to discover a selection of their vitamin E skincare products. Vitamin E is a key element to protect the skin from the damaging effects of the environment and from premature ageing. The Body Shop's Vitamin E range was launched over 30 years ago and the products I had the pleasure to try - the Vitamin E Moisture Cream, the Vitamin E Night Cream and Vitamin E Gentle Facial Wash - are all still best sellers.

I have never used a night cream before and it was a great first experience: the Vitamin E Night Cream is rich yet very quick to absorbe and all the creams have a delicious and fresh smell. I have sensitive skin and I must choose my skin products very carefully but, I must say, the The Body Shop's Vitamin E products worked wonderfully for me leaving my skin soft and very hydrated.

Possibly the best proof was the fact that a friend of mine asked me which moisturiser I was using since my skin looked so glowing (and that happened after only one week of use!).
