Week 12: Birthday Picnic (52 Project)

Birthday picnics! What is this? Have you ever heard of it? Because I think it’s the best idea ever. It’s so simple. Invite friends to a park make them bring food and things to play with and that’s it. If you’re like me and have a bunch of separate groups a friends this is a casual way to bring everyone together. So yeah, I went to a birthday picnic at a pretty awesome park I’ve never heard of. I lost my charger for my DSLR so this week’s pictures came straight out of my phone.

Week 11: PIFA (52 Project)

Have I ever mentioned how much I love food? This stuffed french toast is incredible. It’s enormous, I couldn’t finish the whole thing.

We then went to PIFA, a street festival with a bunch of fun cool things. I can’t remember what we did but it was fun.

Week 10: Lost Bets (52 Project)

A few years back, my cousin was planning her wedding. All of the girls in the family would be bridesmaids. We spent countless Facebook messages and trips to David’s Bridal to coordinate the dresses. It took us weeks to decide on the color Guava. That’s not even a color, it’s a fruit! And it took us even longer to find different styles of Guava dresses that were available in our size. “I like this style but they only have it in Melon.” “Well if you guys all get short dresses, would it be weird for me to wear a long one?” But we finally put the orders in and waited for the day of the wedding.

That never happened. My cousin still got married but because of a series of events we weren’t able to plan an actual ceremony. I tried to pick a dress that I would be able to wear for multiple occasions but I rarely ever go to formal events. There are days when my cousins and I would just sit down and shake our fists, angrily muttering “Freaking Guava!” Sometimes I would wear the dress around the house just so it wouldn’t be wasted. It wasn’t until recently that I found the perfect use for it:

Week 8 & 9 Deviled Eggs (52 Project)

Week 8

You know you’re getting old when you start going to potlucks and networking events. I can’t cook for my life, so when my “family” suggested a potluck as our monthly event, I completely blanked. Usually I cop out and bring soda or bake a cake from a box, but this time I wanted to try making something myself. My best friend said deviled eggs would be fool proof. It’s not. Many eggs were lost that day. The key to easy to peel hard boiled eggs is a sprinkle of baking soda. They turned out pretty tasty but didn’t travel well and was a gross mess by the time I got there. At least I tried.

Week 9

I treated myself to a new lens, the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens AKA Nifty Fifty. I waited an extra month for this lens to ship because I wanted to save $5. It was the principle of the matter! Don’t change prices on me, Amazon! Okay enough of that. I got a chance to test out my new lens at the park. Check it out:

Week 7

When I first told my friends where I was interning, the first thing everyone said is, “HAPPY HOUR!” Of course, we’re all talk and we didn’t actually start going to happy hour until the last few weeks of my internship. Brace yourselves for poorly exposed low lit pictures!

I’ve also been eating out a lot recently. There’s no excuse for that other than the fact that I love food.

Week 8

I’ve had my hands full lately. Everyone I saw recently will know what I’m talking about because it’s ALL I talk about. I adopted a dog! But not just any dog, the best dog in the world, Louie!

He’s been in the family for about 5 years now. My cousin is pregnant once again and doesn’t have the time to give him the TLC he deserves so I volunteered to take him. The transition period has been rough. He’s not properly housebroken and has separation anxiety. My mom also claims to be allergic to him but I honestly think she just doesn’t like him. But everything will work out with time… I hope.

I tried experimenting with manual focus but a lot of my pictures didn’t come out like I’d hope. :(

Week 6: Spring Cleaning (52 Project)

Every once in a while the amount of crap in my room will pile up so high that I’ll finally feel the desire to get rid of it all. I’ll probably never fully get rid of my pack rat tendencies but I can try being more selective about the things I keep. The thing that set off my cleaning frenzy was, believe it or not, my The Walking Dead obsession. The TV show was catching up to the part of the comics that I’ve left off on so I decided to buy the next set, The Walking Dead: Compendium Two. This thing is seriously the size of a phone book. Great value but so unwieldily. I didn’t have enough space for it so I had to clear off a section on my headboard. While I was at it, why not clear out some of my drawers? And that kids, is the story of how a comic book made me finally clean my room.

I got this signed Inspector Space Time print for Christmas (/birthday?) You can see the full image here. I’ve been watching a lot of Doctor Who this weekend too, that somehow makes me appreciate it even more.

During my trip to Paris, I bought this watercolor painting from a man in Montmartre. I was being a bit frugal during my trip but this artist had such a passion for his work. I felt like I was buying a piece of him. It’s an amazing painting, the buildings look as if they’re melting but the people and cars are almost photorealistic.

One day, I’ll do a proper room tour and you can see the rest of the painting. ;)

Toilet Paper Dispenser / Cover

If your house is anything like mine, objects will randomly disappear when you need it most. Now that I have this cold (or maybe it’s allergies, I can never tell), all the tissues in the house go missing. The one thing we always have on hand is toilet paper! Because that would be a big problem if we didn’t. A roll of toilet paper is cheaper than a box tissues too! And that was the inspiration for this project.

You will need:

An ice tea mix canister with a lid
Box cutter
Roll of toilet paper
Acrylic craft paint (optional)

1. Using the box cutter, cut a circle with a diameter of about 1.5 inches on the the top of the lid. Cut around the canister, about 5 inches from the bottom.

2. This part is tricky. Remove the cardboard roll from the toilet paper. I find it easier to stick something in between the cardboard and paper and slide it all the way around. After removing the cardboard, pull the paper from the center of the roll.

3. Place the toilet paper in the canister and place the lid on top. Pull the paper through from the center of the lid.

Optional: You can decorate the dispenser / cover however you like. I painted it with acrylic craft paint but another option is to cover it with a magazine collage. If you decide to paint it, apply thin coats. Cardboard can sometimes absorb excess paint making it soggy.

It can’t believe it feels like spring when it was just snowing yesterday. Crazy unpredictable East coast weather. I thought I’d take advantage of the nice warm weather it while it lasted. Week 4: Lazy Sunday (52 Project)

I just spend the whole morning eating and buying food… to eat. I finally had a chance to use the blender I won from the arcade. I didn’t think to take a picture of my smoothie until after I drank it. Well, I’m going to take this single free day to get as much done as possible. I’ll catch up with you all later.

Week 2 and 3: Bittersweet (52 Project)

Week 2

I’ve been feeling kind of blue the last few weeks. The dreary weather we’ve been having certainly doesn’t help. Every time I go through a new phase in life I get a little depressed. I’m sad to leave my internship but I’m also excited for the future. I love my job but I know it’s not where I want to end up so I have to move on. I just thought moving on would be a lot easier. I’ve had internships in the past but after a certain point I got bored of the work I was doing. I wasn’t as invested as I am now in this position. I had some good times and I’ll always look back fondly of the memories we shared but next month it’s back to classes.

I brought my camera to work and snapped some photos during lunch. There was a bird who just wouldn’t shut up. I think it wanted me to take its picture. What a camera whore.

Then I came across this cute little viking hat. I wanted to take it with me but it was probably infested with all sorts of gross things.

Week 3

I’ve been having a little fantastical romance thing. Basically, I was infatuated with someone who I later found out is unavailable and that is the closest thing to heartbreak that I’ve experienced. Okay it really wasn’t that bad but I kind of wanted an excuse to eat ice cream and chocolate all day.

I just thought this wall looked cool.

By the way, I just like to post things when I’m feeling sad ’cause when I’m happy I’m too busy enjoying it. I’m happy like 90% of the time, I swear.
