Mickey Mouse Clubhouse rules in our house.

Turtle is crazy about MMCH. She loves loves loves to sing along with the theme song and insists on me stopping everything I'm doing to find her favorite Mickey Mouse doll when it comes on.

And ever since she's watched the new MMCh Quest for Crystal Mickey DVD, she's insisted that we fly to the pyramids and find crystal Mickeys.

I don't know about you, but as soon as I hear the Doc McStuffin's theme song... I sing along.

You can admit it, I won't tell anyone.

Doc McStuffin's is the hugely popular series on Disney Junior and now you can watch the hit show anytime you want with the latest release from Disney: Doc McStuffins: Time For Your CheckUp!

Every other day my child comes home and asks me when she is going to lose a tooth.

I say, "Soon" and then she makes me wiggle all of her teeth to check.

She's so stinkin' cute.

I also tell her that the tooth fairy won't leave her any money if her teeth are funky.

True story.

She is a mad woman about taking care of her teeth because of that innocent statement.

Roo has been to the dentist and like most kids, she freaked out. In her defense, she freaks out about anything that involves a Doctor.

The National Children's Oral Health Foundation has the America's ToothFairy project that helps give tips to keep children, like mine, from freaking out about visiting the dentist.

From the press release, here are some tips to help you and your young one sane when visiting the dentist:

"Visit the dentist with your child prior to their first appointment. Help your child understand what to expect on their visit by taking a tour of the practice and asking the dental assistant or dental hygienist to explain what will be done and demonstrate how each instrument will be used. For slightly order children, bring them along to observe your routine dental cleaning and exam. Yelling, it's got to go.

Today while doing a million things at once, I stumbled upon a blog post from Hands Free Mama called The Important Thing About Yelling.

I found the post on Pinterest from a friend's board and clicked because I am guilty as charged of yelling at my kids.

Before I even read the post, I was thinking about all those times I've snapped at my children for being... well, for being children.

I've snapped at them for stupid reasons (as well as perfectly reasonable ones) and when I think about why I snapped at them, how I snapped at them... I get embarrassed. I get sad. I cry...

I mean, come the fuck on, they are children. They honestly do not know better. I'm an adult, I KNOW BETTER!

I never wanted to be a mother that yelled. Hell, I don't want to be a person that yells. It takes up too much time and energy and I'd rather be playing with my girls or searching for ladybugs with them.

I have so many more important memories to make other than yelling at a little girl over the fact that she wants to dance in the bathroom instead of brush her teeth.

Can't blame her, dancing is fun.

Reading the post, I felt the tears welling up in my eyes because I am her.

I AM HER.

I yell for stupid reasons and I yell because I'm frustrated with ME not THEM.

I take out my frustrations on them because I am unhappy with myself.

My life isn't all roses and I'll admit that it sucks sometimes... a lot of the time, actually. But the bright spot in my life never changes: Them.

My jobs isn't always great. My finances are a wreck. I am plagued with an illness that wipes me out.

I could go on and on... but the thing is, are these excuses as to why it's okay for me to yell at my children?

My babies are just kids, just three and six years of age how in the world can they possible know that using my good bowls for food for their chicken is a bad idea? Are their lives any better because I rush them all over the place so I can make sure life is in perfect running order? Why should I get frustrated because my kid needs to stop and examine the world around her?

What does it matter if I let her?

What does it do if I stop and smell the roses with her?

Both of us would only benefit from it.

I've decided to make a change. I'm making a commitment to myself to stop the yelling in every aspect of my life.

I could use the break and I'm sure those around me could too.

Weekend from Hell

I live for my weekends.

Weekends are my go-to for rest, relaxation, fun and my babies.

Oh, my babies.

I don't get to spend nearly as much time as I want with them during the week because of this silly thing called a job.

This past weekend I had plans of bathing suits, giggles and ice cream but all of that nonsense was dashed when I snuck into my daughter's class room at the end of the day on Friday to get some kisses. I was surprised to find my girl tucked away in the corner, snoozing on a row of chairs.

This stopped me in my tracks. Girl never sleeps during the day unless something is wrong.

Upon inspection, I discovered she had a 103.7 fever!

I bundled her up and took her home to cuddle away the sickness but her fever just would not stop!

We headed to the doctors the next day where her cough developed into croup and they diagnosed her with bronchitis. We were sent home with antibiotics and told to get some rest.

When your kid is sick, you tend to be on heightened alert. You're looking for a clue as to what could make them feel better and what can you do to make them comfortable.

I hover when my kids are sick.

Do you need your pillow fluffed? Are you hungry? What do you want to watch?

I spoil the crap out of them.

When Roo woke up from a nap with a strange look on her face, I knew something was wrong. I pestered her to tell me what was wrong but she wouldn't.

I knew in my gut that something wasn't right.

Then she asked to go back to the doctors.

She was having trouble breathing, her airway was swelling shut.

I immediately went into a mode where I'd made the decision to take her to the hospital. I packed up a bag of stuffed animals, change for the vending machine, chargers for phones and tablets... everything but the poor girls shoes!

I left Turtle with Daddy and out the door we flew.

The whole way I was praying to God to make her better and to guide our drive to the hospital.

I just needed her better, fast.

Her breaths were so fast and so short.

We were able to get in right away and they got some medicine in her to stop the swelling and reduce it.

Thankfully, it worked. After a special breathing treatment, she was back to her normal self.

When can we go home?

They did an X-Ray of her chest, which came back normal, and we were able to spend some time snuggling together while we waited.

Roo has a horrible track record with respiratory infections and the past three times she'd experienced them, we've ended up in the hospital.

They tell me that she will outgrow them and I'm hoping this is true.

No one wants to have to rush to the hospital because their child cannot breathe.

We spent the rest of the weekend doing absolutely nothing except fighting the fever that kept coming back and the one that decided to knock Turtle down.

And getting very little sleep.

Today I'm praying for full recoveries because we all desperately need our sleep and my little ones desperately need to run and play.

Memories Made

This weekend has to go down as one of the best weekends I've had... in a really long time.

And the funny thing about this weekend, is that I didn't take any photos of our adventures. For me, this is odd.

I always have a camera or, at least, my iPhone on me so I can snap away and post on my blog or on Facebook to share with family and friends.

This weekend involved water and my beloved stayed in my center console where she wouldn't get ruined (because as much as I love her, I don't insure her).

So we set off to the beach on Saturday and hunted shells and jumped over waves. Today we canoed down the Wekiva and did cannonballs in the springs.

And I didn't take one picture to share.

But I took a million to keep for myself.

Roo's first alligator sighting and her shrieks of fear. Her awe at the river otter and her shouts for her sister to SIT DOWN! I remember Turtle's fingers trailing in the water as we glided along. The wonder of them seeing all the fishes below the boat and the gasps of surprise at just how beautiful the world around us is.

I didn't get a picture of the lovebug swarm that covered us from head to toe at the beach and had us dancing in circles while we flapped our towels in defense. The sandcastle that Turtle spent all her time on or the joy in Roo's face when she got tumbled by a wave.

And all those pictures I would've been focused on taking wouldn't have let me see all the special things that happened this weekend.

And I am so glad I don't have any photos to share because sometimes memories should only belong to those that witness them.

Review: Combat

Part of farm life is bugs.

Plain and simple.

It's just something you had to adapt to being out here. It's like horse poop, you learn to walk around it not through it. It's the same with bugs. You just grab something, smush it to death and move on.

Recently I was asked to check out some new Combat products and see if it helped.

And before I get any further, my house is NOT run over with bugs. But just like any house, and especially a farm house in Floridas, you will get bugs.

Especially when it pours for days.

I was sent the Combat ant killing stripes and the roach killing bait strips.

Both have a nice new discreet design which I love because the old "roach motels" were big and screamed to the world you had a bug problem.

They boast that they have adhesive strips and while they do, I had the most annoying time trying to get them to stick to my surfaces.

I did see a difference in the bug pests that troop through my kitchen but I still saw one or two roaming the night shift.

No big deal, nothing a paper towel or an oven mitt can't solve.

Combat did a survey recently and that 52% of Americans admit to having a bug problem and that 20% of people don't invite people over because of their bug problem!

Shocking, huh?

Some great tips to keep those pests away are:

Store all food in airtight containers
Sweep your floors and vacuum regularly
Keep vegetation trimmed around the outside of the house (best to keep it from touching the home)
Clean all surfaces to erase any food residue left behind

Turtle seriously has an addiction to My Little Pony.

Every night when she goes to bed she is allowed to watch some TV and when I ask her what she wants to watch, it never fails, she tells me: TWILIGHT SPARKLE.

Code word: My Little Pony.

The latest DVD from MLP is: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Princess Twilight Sparkle.

And can I say, it's about time Twilight Sparkle became a Princess. Girl does everything, she deserves it!

Review: Paper Culture

I am a total nerd for stationery.

Total nerd.

I have tons of paper all over the place. Some with my initials, some with cute fuzzy animals, thank you cards, birthday cards. You name it, I am in love with it.

Enter Paper Culture.

A piece of heaven for someone like me.

I was asked to check out their personalized stationery and I jumped all over it... And then promptly spent two and a half hours combing through every piece of paper they offer trying to pick the perfect one.

They had amazing options to choose from.

I love the banner stripes graduation card and the cherry blossom announcement cards.

Beautiful, huh?

I ordered myself the rustic paper stationery in pink chalk.

The cool thing is that you can customize it completely. Normally, the header says HI. I changed it to HOWDY just because it's my more style.

And another cool thing, when I placed my order they planted a tree in my name! Awesome!

Another great thing, how freaking fast the whole process was (once I made up my mind, of course). I placed my order, it shipped the next day and I received my cards within three days!

Iron Man 3 Review

Movies are a rare treat for me and the husband.

A rare, rare treat.

I think the last movie we went and saw together, that didn't involve children or cartoon characters, was Pirates of the Caribbean 4.

And that came out years ago.

When the Iron Man frenzy started, I honestly had no desire to get involved in it. I'm not usually one for action movies with big characters.

That was until one night I was flipping through the channels and stumbled upon Iron Man 2. I watched it and loved it. Then I hunted down the first one, and I loved that one too.

When we were invited to see Iron Man 3 early, we jumped at the chance.

Hello, Tony Stark!

Not only did we get to have a date night, we got to see a movie together.

I don't want to give too much away, but I really enjoyed it. There's a new bad guy (Hello, Guy Pearce!) and lots of action.

Lots of action.

There were times my hand flew to my mouth in shock too.

And the laughs, of course, were plenty.

Marvel is good like that.

The ending was satisfactory and although I'm curious about a possible Iron Man 4... but I don't want to spill it so I don't ruin it for you when you see it.

Iron Man 3 hits theaters today so GO SEE IT!

Disney is full of announcements this week. FULL OF THEM! I'm totally digging it!

Disney holds a special place in my heart. I grew up there (seriously, my Dad was a firefighter for their department), I worked there, I visit there allll the time... it's in my blood, I swear it is.

Coming next spring (of 2014), Disney will be rolling out a brand new parade for you to enjoy. They Festival of Fantasy Parade will pull from the New Fantasyland and be full of great floats, amazing costumes and a new soundtrack to dance to!

Disney's Doing An All Nighter!

Yesterday Disney announced that in celebrating their big Monstrous Summer Event that they will be pulling an all nighter.

They are doing a three-park all-night party at the Magic Kingdom, Disneyland and Disney California Aventure. The parks will open on May 25, 2013 at 6am and stay open until 6am on May 25, 2013!

Awesome, huh?

At the MK, there will be a Monster University theme to celebrate the opening of the new movie this summer. There will be appearances by your favorite monsters and Mike and Sulley will be the Grand Marshalls of the Celebrate a Dream Come True parades.

Scattered thorough the park will be extra entertainments with late-night dance parties around Cinderella's Castle and characters in their pjs!

I am crossing my fingers to make it to this event and if you are, start planning now! It is always packed and the parks reach capacity quickly.

Dear Daughters: Sleepovers Rock

Dear Girls,

Last Saturday was the best Saturday of my life. It started like any other Saturday where we slept in and then goofed off around the house. We splashed around in the pool, watched cartoons, cleaned the bathroom and made the never-ending trip to Target.

It was decided after lunch that we would have a sleepover since our previous one was a bust because of an unplanned visit from a cousin. Sleepovers in our house are characterized by both of you snuggling up in my bed and sleeping with me for the night. We stayed up late, watch Netflix and make something terribly delicious.

This past Saturday, Daddy joined in on the fun and after dinner we spent time outdoors chasing each other, kicking the soccer ball and going for Deuce rides.

When the sun went down, we grabbed the flashlights and headed down to the pond.

It was lit up with fireflies (lightning bugs). We chased them (as well as a bunny rabbit that we came upon), and caught a few in a mason jar.

The excitement that you both felt was enough to make Mama cry (and yes, I know Mama cries a lot). You both were jumping around and chasing after them with your dirty hands and feet and making more noise than humanly possible.

It was pure joy for me and Daddy.

After we had caught some bugs, we toted them inside and made an awesome sheet tent/fort with fishing poles. We changed into our pjs, snuggled up, had snacks and watched Disney movies all night long.

Everyone went to sleep with a smile on their face and I don't think that night will ever top another because sometimes in life, the simpliest things are the most amazing.

Sometimes life on a farm, with our dirty feet and small joys like fireflies means the world to me and your Daddy and we wouldn't have it any other way.

I love you girls so much.

Looking for something to do on April 20th?

The First Annual Knights Plaza Garage Sale is going on from 9am to 3pm that day. Students from UCF and members of the community will get the chance to buy, sale, trade, or donate their items. Items include clothes, appliances, furniture, electronic devices, and many more!

All UCF students can apply for a Student Vendor spot for only $10. To get your spot, go to the website to apply.

Any items not sold can be donated to the American Veterans or the Knights Pantry.

This event is FREE to the public.

Ellen DeGeneres, the Voice of the Beloved Blue Tang Fish in 2003’s “Finding Nemo,” Shares Plans for the All-New Big-Screen Adventure

BURBANK, Calif. (April 2, 2013) – When Dory said “just keep swimming” in 2003’s Oscar®-winning film “Finding Nemo,” she could not have imagined what was in store for her (not that she could remember). Ellen DeGeneres, voice of the friendly-but-forgetful blue tang fish, revealed details today about Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Dory”—an all-new big-screen adventure diving into theaters on Nov. 25, 2015.

“I have waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time,” said DeGeneres. “I’m not mad it took this long. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating ‘Toy Story 16.’ But the time they took was worth it. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It’s got a lot of heart, it’s really funny, and the best part is—it’s got a lot more Dory.”

Director and Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton takes audiences back to the extraordinary underwater world created in the original film. “There is no Dory without Ellen,” said Stanton. “She won the hearts of moviegoers all over the world—not to mention our team here at Pixar. One thing we couldn’t stop thinking about was why she was all alone in the ocean on the day she met Marlin. In ‘Finding Dory,’ she will be reunited with her loved ones, learning a few things about the meaning of family along the way.”

According to Stanton, “Finding Dory” takes place about a year after the first film, and features returning favorites Marlin, Nemo and the Tank Gang, among others. Set in part along the California coastline, the story also welcomes a host of new characters, including a few who will prove to be a very important part of Dory’s life.

“Finding Nemo” won the 2003 Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature; the film was nominated for three additional Oscars® (Best Writing, Original Screenplay; Best Music, Original Score; Best Sound Editing). It was also nominated for a Golden Globe® Award for Best Motion Picture–Comedy or Musical. In 2008, the American Film Institute named “Finding Nemo” among the top 10 greatest animated films ever made. At the time of its release, “Finding Nemo” was the highest grossing G-rated movie of all time. It’s currently the fourth highest grossing animated film worldwide. The film has more than 16 million Likes on Facebook, and Dory—with more than 24 million—is the most Liked individual character from a Disney or Disney•Pixar film.

DeGeneres’ distinctive comic voice has resonated with audiences from her first stand-up comedy appearances through her work today on television, in film and in the literary world. Her syndicated talk show, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” is in its 10th season and has earned 38 Daytime Emmy® Awards. DeGeneres has won 12 People’s Choice Awards and the Teen Choice Award for Choice Comedian for three consecutive years. Additionally, her show won two Genesis Awards and a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Talk Show Episode.
