I certainly understand your gripe about the software and operating system; however, you can say as much about just about any new computer--netbook, laptop, or desktop. I fully expected to re-install the OS when purchasing. I recommend anyone capable do the same for any machine they purchase.

I purchased the machine primarily as a personal and entertainment machine while travelling for business. I am able to keep it next to my full size work laptop while responding to email or other tasks and easily "jump" over to it to access Gmail or Facebook (prohibited on the company issued laptop). I have also used it to stream Netflix while in a hotel with little issue, any issues were mainly to poor wifi coverage in the room.

Well, it looks like I'm first. I have this dream of having a laptop in every room that I use a lot in the house. Mainly my living room and bedroom. I already had two work laptops in my home office and call me lazy but I was tired of carrying the one I use out of the office, up and down the stairs, running out of battery and having to go get the power cord. I decided a netbook might be a good choice for my minor chatting and surfing.

I couldn't decided between this model and the HP Mini 311. I ended up ordering the HP and buying this one at my local store. This model is very slick looking. I got the Blue one and its very elegant. You wouldn't mind being seen out with this laptop.

Went out last night to look at netbooks for the hundredth time. After looking at the same ole boring models, plastic, cramped, creaky, cheap feeling, I came across this beauty. A very sturdy model, well made, and I was hooked on first site. After thinking that it was just an visual thing, I started to type away on the keyboard and what a thing of beautiful engineering. The Home, End, PrtSc keys are all in the proper place at the upper right, some other netbook keyboards required the use of the Fn key to use those keys (this model includes separate page up and down keys too). The screen is nice and bright, I was able to compare it side by side with a Dell mini and the Eee 1005HA and the Toshiba came out on top!!! Lastly, the touch pad is top of the line. It is not too small and there are separate L and R buttons located on the bottom of the pad like a "normal" laptop. As you know some other manufacturers make one rectangular button on the bottom or one on each side of the track pad...this one is, again, top notch.
For the money, you can not go wrong with purchasing this laptop. Great feel, sturdy build, awesome battery life, and you just feel good using it :) Hopefully this helps in your decision concerning a netbook purchase.

I will admit this is my first netbook but I do have two laptops and two other desktops in the house. The keyboard is absolutely great on this machine, it is what attracted me to the Toshiba initially. I have had this machine for about a week now and so far there is nothing that I can really complain about. The battery life is incredible, although I have yet to try to drain it. Today the machine was on, but not in constant use, for over six hours and it still showed 40% battery life. The screen is very good and even though only 10.1" I am forgetting that I'm on a small machine. Very spacious hard drive at 250GB. This prompted me to permanently move my iTunes collection to this machine so that I can update my podcasts and sync regularly while travelling.

Before buying a netbook, I did a lot of research and determined that the Toshiba NB205 series would be best for me. Instead of buying it immediately and having Windows XP as my OS, I decided to wait a few days until Windows 7 was released. The only problem I encountered was that the scroll built into the touch pad stopped working. I figured that it had something to do with the 6 Windows updates I did, so I restarted the netbook and it worked fine again, and I haven't had the problem since. After getting used to the netbook, I decided to download some wallpaper, so I searched for some good 1024x600 images, and discovered what everyone else with Windows 7 Starter quickly found out: you can't change the wallpaper. While not critical to the operation of the netbook, this is a pointless and very annoying feature to leave out. I have had my Toshiba N205-N325BL for a week. I had never used a laptop before so the touch pad took some getting used to. I have since purchased a mouse and external DVD to use with it. The user manual is a file on the internal disk so learning how to find my way around the laptop and Windows 7 was a challenge but I doubt if any computers come with a hard copy user manual anymore. I called Qwest to get help configuring my DSL modem for wireless and they even helped me with the laptop. It only took a few minutes to get it all working. I have had no problem with the netbook and am very happy with my purchase. I had considered the ASUS for a long time but the negative customer reviews regarding the AC adapter/charger and their customer service convinced me the Toshiba was a better choice. I don't think it's fair to give the Toshiba a bad review based on Windows 7 Starter. Toshiba doesn't make Windows and all the netbooks with Windows 7 Starter will have the same restrictions. If you want all the bells and whistles of a full sized laptop then buy a laptop and not a netbook.

Speedy (Win 7 boots faster than Vista does on my much more powerful laptop), amazing battery life (I've eked out more than the 9 hours on the label), light and a pleasure to use. The full-sized keyboard makes typing easy and with 3 USB ports, if you need peripherals, you're covered. The keyboard is a little squishy which takes a moment to get used to and I wish there was more than just a VGA port for video options, but overall as long as you're not trying to stream full-screen 1080 resolution movies, you'll find nothing to complain about.

I bought a Crucial CT25664AC667 2GB memory stick to improve multitasking and dual boot with Ubuntu Netbook Remix Karmic, which works out of the box for everything except sound (and the fix for that is in the pipeline). Personally, and I'm surprised to say this, I prefer Win 7 Starter. Everything just works flawlessly on this little netbook and I can't find anything that really disappoints me.

I actually bought the NB205-N330BN, pre-ordering it from amazon, so this review is by an actual owner. In addition to this netbook, I also own 2 desktops (one I built myself) and two laptops. Before buying, one needs to realize the limitations of a netbook. It's not meant as a replacement for your desktop or laptop. I bought it for remote access to my company's server so I could prepare reports from the road and not have to drive 1-2 hours to my office. For this and for internet browsing, it has been perfect. Two others in my office have Asus and HP netbooks and this Toshiba blows them away, if for nothing else the keyboard layout. Wi-fi reception has been much better than the laptop I previously used, so I have no complaints at all. Windows 7 Starter has been fine. I didn't need all the bells and whistles and stupid Windows tricks. No wallpaper? Who cares?

All I can suggest is that you do your research to make sure a netbook fits your needs. Read the reviews and visit a retail outlet to check out the various models, keyboard layout, etc. At this time I highly recommend the Toshiba. I thought my wife might complain about the brown color, but she and everyone else loves it. A nice change from black or blue.
