Silhouetting is simpler than it seems. The trick? Shoot with the sun behind your subject and don’t use the flash. Our tips:
- Shoot from late afternoon until dusk, when the glow of the sun is going away in the horizon.
- To make the most of the fading daylight, shoot in wide open range, such as on hilltops or at the beach. Avoid objects such as treetops that might block the sunrays.
- Give each subject his own space so he can be photographed individually.
- Turn off the automatic flash.
