Eric Wyatt and the video production creatives at e-media, in Ft. Myers Florida, recently produced a promo spot for Bedslide which featured some tracks from the UniqueTracks Production Music Library.

Bedslide makes a unique sliding ultility for loading and unloading trucks. Basically, it turns your truck bed into a sliding drawer.

Eric told me recently

The marketing department [at Bedslide] wanted
to use something with a hard rock sound for music.
Thankfully we had your Speed Demons CD.

Here is the spot, shot for under $3000. Neat product.

Information wants to be free… (so the Web gospel reads)

Wikipedia apparently has entered the political arena, closing the site for one day to protest the SOPA bill.

What’s interesting to me is the notion that the knowledge collected by Wikipedia, freely given by volunteers spending untold hours contributing to the site, can be leveraged by the site’s owners to support their own politics.

I don’t know that that meets the approval of the many, varied, unpaid writers that contribute freely to Wikipedia or so-called crowdsource or “open source” platforms.

In an article titled The importance of Wikipedia published Nov 30, 2011 on opensource.com, Susan Hewitt, a 63-year old contributor to Wikipedia says

“Wikipedia is self-organizing and self-correcting,”. “There is no boss and police force, yet at this point in its development it’s perfectly clear that it works really well.” Wikipedia calls to the better angels of people’s nature, and those angels respond.

No police force, but apparently a higher power.

It’s the downside of the concept of a free web. The truth is there are powers behind the free web and they can use their power when it suits them. Now it’s free, now it’s not. Who decides? Well, we saw this week who decides.

Interestingly, a paid product, Encyclopedia Britannica, for instance, could not be so leveraged. Once you purchase it, it is yours. It can’t be removed from your home by the publishers because they don’t agree with your politics. Is that what we pay for? Ownership? Control? Privacy? Autonomy?

Guitar Heaven, a new royalty free music collection from the UniqueTracks Production Music Library, features 28 full-length tracks written in rock, blues and country guitar styles. There is plenty of rock energy here, classic rock, hard rock, heavy metal are all represented including a tongue-in-cheek homage to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody entitled Bohemian Blasphemy.

There is also a fine selection of electric blues tracks, something of a throwback to 1970s guitar god jam band playing. These tracks are a rare addition to the royalty free genre.

The country instrumentals feature plenty of dynamic guitar-picking and the Latin-influenced acoustic guitar tunes will help bring out the sun.

Guitar Heaven was composed and produced for UniqueTracks by Canadian composer Neil Cross.

New Product Release: UniqueTracks’ new Retro Gamer is a collection of electronic music based on the 8-bit chipset used in legacy video games like the Nintendo Game Boy. This music emulates the tunes found on famous games like the Mario Brothers series. The atmosphere is fun, light and kind of goofy. Songs have a bouncy, buzzy, quality with a touch of innocence.

There are 21 full-length themes here. Each song is presented with several edits including an alternate mix where the main melody is pulled out of the mix. This can be helpful if you are using the track in a game and need more of a pad or muted background. Most tracks are cut right at a loop point so they can easily be extended in your editor.

These songs are just fun. They fit non-game related productions too, from quirky commercial beds to wacky YouTube Cats videos.

Have a listen. You will recognize this sound…
