This is the villa for the clients who live in Tokyo. The site is located in Boso Peninsula east of Tokyo, Although it takes only about less than 2 hrs drive from Downtown Tokyo., the site is facing the pacific ocean while having mountains as a background. Being surrounded by the natural landscape, it was necessary for us to utilize the great views of the site. Having these in our mind we came up with the design concept to provide the one continuous wall folded in different directions setting up the various views.

This house is to be a part of, and vessel for, a large contemporary art collection. Great 20th century works by Bruce Nauman, Robert Ryman, Jeff Koons and Jannis Kounellis are part of the collection which includes important video artworks. Constructed of tilt-up concrete walls, the flat and rotated nature of the walls merges with the simple orthogonal requirements of the interiors for art. Shape extensions and light and air chimneys connected to cooling pools articulate the planar geometry. From a courtyard experienced at the entry of sequence, a ramp leads to a rooftop sculpture garden - a place of silence and reflection.

I’ve been wanting a sleeper for the second room. I’ve finally decided on the Twilight Sleep Sofa. It was delivered this morning, and I’m in love with it.

Designed in response to a furniture competition at the Arhus School of Architecture in Denmark in 1999, the Twilight Sleep Sofa ingeniously accomplishes what many conventional convertible sofas cannot do: It functions as a single person daybed or easily unfolds for multiple sleepers. Intended for sitting, resting and sleeping, the design is ideal for dens or home offices that double as guest rooms, with its compact form and simple fold out double bed surface. Unlike many sleep sofas, which have uncomfortably deep seating surfaces, this design features a bolster pillow that adjusts to three different positions for customized seat depths (19.5″/23″/34.75″) and lumbar support. The slipcover is welted at the seams with contrast black piping for a clean aesthetic, and is removable for cleaning. Casters on the rear legs make for easy mobility. Uses two twin extra long fitted sheets and coordinating flat sheets or two twin extra long fitted sheets with one king size flat sheet. Made in Denmark.

George Nelson, 1952

In the 1950s, George Nelson and his New York office developed a series of individually expressive seating furniture, a number of which have long established themselves as classics. In 1952, predating the famous Coconut Chair or the Marshmallow Sofa, he designed a chair made of moulded plywood originally referred to simply as the “Laminated Chair”. The bold and elegant curve of the seat back and armrest soon earned it the nickname Pretzel Chair. Plywood is used for the back and its supports as well as the four legs of the chair that cross under the seat. The downward taper of the legs adds to the delicate and slender appearance of the chair.

On the occasion of Nelson’s 100th birthday, Vitra is introducing a re-edition of the Pretzel Chair—which numbers among his most famous designs—in a limited Anniversary Edition of 1000 pieces. The numbered special edition Pretzel Chair is accompanied by a comprehensive Edition Portfolio.
