Our Valentine's Dinner 2012

Ever since I had a very bad dinner experience during 'Valentine's Day', I've decided to stop going out for dinner during this supposedly romantic day!!! Nothing can ruin a romantic day faster than a bad dinner!!! Food quality were downright lousy and we have to wait for more than an hour before we were being served... And the best part was the portioned of the food being served... It was a joke and not forgetting it was super duper expensive!!!

So this year, I've decided to cook for my darling (more like a guinea pig to me!!!) and I will be cooking salmon this time... I spent a few days thinking on the recipe and this was the outcome!!! Actually I'm very proud of myself for cooking all this without any help!!! Not forgetting this was my first time attempting to cook salmon!!!

Grilled salmon with caramelized onion mashed potatoes and sautéed asparagus top with my home made sauce... Not bad huh!!!

Okay now I will go through the process of cooking this dish (bear with me please as this was my first time attempting to cook salmon and I'm damn excited to be able to pull this off!!!)...

First, cut the potatoes into small cube and throw it into a pot with water covering all the potatoes... Add some salt in for flavouring... Bring it to boil and lower down the heat... You're done when the potatoes turn soft and mash able...

Take one asparagus and cut it around 2 inches long... Use it as a guide and cut the remaining bunch to the exact specification... You don't want your asparagus to be in different length as this will not look nice when serve!!!

Next is the onion... Peel off the skin and slice it up...

Very minimal marinate for my salmon... I marinated it with a little bit of soy sauce and black pepper...

Add lots of butter and black pepper for flavouring and you're ready to mash!!! I've added a little bit of fresh milk in it as well...

Besides that, I've added some oregano to enhance the taste of it...

Viola... Mash potatoes done...

Now is time to caramelize the onions... Heat the pan up with some butter and put your onions in when the pan is hot...

Remember to stir frequently and reduce your heat so that your onions will not get burn easily... Add some salt for flavouring...

Add the caramelized onions into the same pot where you mashed your potatoes earlier...

Stir and mix it around and you're done with your caramelized onions and mashed potatoes...

Heat up the pan with some oil and we are ready for the asparagus... Chop some garlic and sautéed it with the asparagus...

Add some oyster sauce for flavouring and your asparagus is ready to serve...

Before putting the salmon into the grilling pan, lightly oil the salmon (remember to oil both side) instead of the pan... Skin side down and cook it for around 3-4 minutes and you're ready to flip it over and let it cook for around 3 minutes on the other side and your salmon is ready!!!

Nice??? I like how the diamond charred mark turn out... Crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside!!!

Now for my self made sauce... I heat up some butter and squeeze half a lime in and add a dash of fresh milk... Throw some dried rosemary in and finally some sugar and reduce the sauce... Once it thickens, turn off the fire and you're done!!!

Plating time... It is up to you on how you wanna plate it... But I like mine this way!!!

Caramelized onions and mashed potatoes on the bottom, grilled salmon in the middle with some home made sauce on it and top it off with the sautéed asparagus!!!

Total cost = Less than RM100.00

Satisfaction = Priceless!!!

The first time I went 'Publika', I noticed a lot of people dining at this place... As I'm curious as a cat, I decided to dine at this place in my next visit to 'Publika'... Did some researched before going over so that I got a rough idea on what's good and what's not... As a conclusion, what I get from my research was just five letter words... 'PIZZA'!!! A lot of people recommended their pizzas so I guess this is a must try dish then...

Most of their offerings are indeed very mouth watering by just reading the name and description of it... Lots of things to try but we went there quite early and I can't really eat a lot in the morning so we didn't go crazy when ordering time came!!! Since we went in the morning, we decided to order their breakfast instead of our original plan which was pizza...

Drink to your heart's content as plain water is free of charge!!!

'Le Petit Dejeuner' that came with two half boiled eggs, hash browns, bacon and sautéed mushrooms... Nothing to shout about this but the mushrooms tasted quite nice... RM12.90...

Acceptable looking half boiled eggs... Half boiled eggs is best eaten with soy sauce instead of salt!!!

'BIG Ben's Breakfast Pizza'... Since we decided to switch to breakfast set, I still can't get pizza off my mind... Luckily they decided to add pizzas to their breakfast menu... I really like this pizza with a poached egg sitting on top of it... Flavour was really nice when mix with the egg yolk!!! RM17.90...

'Eggs Benedict Pizza'... Again beautifully poached eggs on top of the pizza... Egg yolk oozing out with a gentle poke of the fork... Nice!!! RM15.90...

Will definitely be coming back for more... Next time I think I will go there during lunch time instead... Gonna try their pizzas offering and not forgetting lasagne which is one of my favourite food!!!

New 50 Cents Trying To Be 20 Cents???

Old 50 cents on the top and new 50 cents in the middle and old 20 cents on the bottom...

Is it just me or the new 50 cents is trying to be 20 cents??? In fact the size is actually smaller than the old 20 cents!!! What are they trying to do??? It doesn't make any sense at all... First of all, why do we need new notes and coins whereas the old one serve us well??? Okay so they have made up their mind to introduce new notes and coins AGAIN but why do you make the 50 cents smaller??? I don't see the rational here... Just to refresh your memory... When the government introduce the new RM5 note made from polymer, all the autopay machine couldn't accept the new note... So why made the same mistake again by reducing the size of the new 50 cents coin??? This will cause a lot of hassle for us as those autopay machine may not be able to accept these new notes and coins!!! Now all these autopay and parking ticket machines need to be modify or worse still, a replacement need to be made!!! Not a very logical move I said... Can someone please enlighten me on this???

KFC Is Making The Headline Again!!!

Recently 'KFC Malaysia' had been plagued with lots of negativity pertaining their staffs and they are making headline for all the wrong reason... Firstly there are a few videos showing their staffs rubbing the chicken on the sole of their shoe before putting it into the fryer... Frankly speaking these acts are totally unacceptable!!!

But for me, this new video that went viral on the Internet is even more unacceptable... I'm not siding either party and I don't care who started it, but it is just not right to fight someone wearing your company's uniform... This is a simple work ethics and everyone should know it... If you have a problem with the other guy, that's your problem and please don't drag your employer with you...

The victim did a press conference today and said that he did not start the provocation as a lot of people saying that he's the one who is wrong... What I can say is I find both party to be at fault... The victim might utter something at the staff as he's already in a bad mood but no matter how people scolded you, you don't simply retaliate by beating someone up especially your customers!!! Mind you, this is a serious offence... There is another person that I find at fault and should resign because of this incident... The manager!!! He/she should be aware of this incident and should act accordingly and stop this from happening!!! So please 'KFC Malaysia', do something to your staff before they ruin your reputation!!!

Underworld: Awakening

My favourite vampire is back with a vengeance!!! Woo hoo... I know a lot of people are disappointed with this movie but still I will watch it... Come on is not easy to get a true vampire movie nowadays plus a hot looking vampire thrown in as a bonus!!! Wait a minute, I believe I heard someone saying 'Bella' from 'Twilight'... Are you kidding me??? You call that a vampire??? Besides she's definitely not hot!!!

Since most of my friends said that this movie is not worth watching, so I set my expectation to a standard low... But what surprised me was I kinda like the movie!!! Believe it or not, I find it rather entertaining with all the violent and gore turn a notch up from it's predecessor... And regarding the storyline, I find it much better compare to the previous one as I didn't expect it to turn out this way...

Other than the sizzling hot 'Selene', there is a newcomer with the name of 'Eve'... She's an innocent looking girl this minute and a sinister looking one the next!!! She looks so much meaner compare to 'Selene'!!! 'Bella' who is she??? I bet she weep and piss in her pants when she sees 'Eve'!!!

Overall, I'm liking this movie and watch it if you're a true 'Underworld' fan... Ignore all the others who think otherwise just like what I did... And I'm glad I watched it...

Reunion Dinner 2012...

Reunion dinner over at the in-law is somewhat predictable as steamboat is their choice of meal... So 2012 is no different compare to last year... Not a bad thing as we don't have to scratch our head thinking of what to prepare and cook for dinner!!! So I guess I'm really bless...

Reunion Lunch 2012...

This year we tried something different for our reunion lunch... We cooked something spicy!!! If my memory serves me right, this is the first time ever... Well, there will always be a first time!!! Every year, we cracked our head and brainstorm together for our reunion lunch... Quite frankly, I almost ran out of idea... Besides that, it is not something easy as my parents want certain ingredients and the only way to differentiate it from last year is the way of cooking it!!! It was fun nevertheless albeit a very tiring kind of fun!!!

We woke up around eight something in the morning to prepare all the ingredients, (though I'm not the one preparing, but still I woke up early!!!) and you know what time we finish everything including eating and taking bath??? Around three something in the afternoon!!! Crazy huh... Okay now lets enjoy the fruits of our labour!!!

HUAT AH!!!

Gong Cha vs Ochado vs Chatime

After 'Snowflake' taking the dessert scene by storm, now is time for the ever popular 'bubble tea' turn to stir up the drinks category a bit... There are three very famous players in this category now namely 'Gong Cha' and 'Chatime' which is from 'Taiwan' (the birth place of bubble tea) and last but not least, 'Ochado' which is from 'Japan' if I'm not mistaken...

So which is the best among these three heavy weight???

I will start with my least favourite one... And the honours goes to 'Chatime'... Quite frankly, I don't really get the hype of 'Chatime'... I've tried a few of their drinks and I can tell you that it was pretty awful!!! 'Chocolate Hazelnut' above was one of the worst I've tried... So I don't really understand why people are still queueing up for it??? Frankly speaking, 'Cool Blog' is much better and not forgetting a lot cheaper...

Second place goes to 'Ochado'... The taste of their tea is definitely more superior compare to 'Chatime' which tasted like crap... One of the drink to try out when you patron 'Ochado' next time is their 'Okinawa Matcha Milk Tea'... Their matcha is really fragrance and flavourful... ('Chatime' offer something really similar... try it and let me know what you think!!! I've tried and definitely not impressed by it!!!)

And the first place goes to 'Gong Cha'!!! Actually, it is really hard to determine the winner between 'Ochado' and 'Gong Cha'... Very close battle if you ask...

So what makes 'Gong Cha' number one??? Their signature winter melon milk drink!!! I'm not a BIG fan of winter melon drink but the moment I tried 'Gong Cha' winter melon milk drink, I'm hooked and there is no turning back for me... I want more of it!!! Their signature milk tasted really awesome and not forgetting very milky which is something I really like... There are three ways for you to indulge... First open the lid and take a sip of the milk... Second method is to drink the winter melon drink without mixing with the milk and lastly (which is the one I prefer) stir and mix up the milk with the winter melon drink...

This is one of our favourite restaurant for dinner... Usually we went there for 'bak kut teh' and steamed fish head... Although their core business is selling 'bak kut teh', but it seems that the steamed fish head is more famous than the 'bak kut teh'...

I'm not sure about others but I must have soy sauce + dark soy sauce when I'm eating 'bak kut teh'...

'Bak kut teh'... Frankly speaking, their 'bak kut teh' is definitely not the best around but still better than most that I've tried...

This is our first time trying their chilli steamed fish head... Normally we will ordered the normal one which is with garlic and ginger instead of chilli... The normal one tasted much nicer compare to this...

Chinese New Year Decoration @ 1 Utama

This is the decorations at '1 Utama' shopping complex... Nothing special and definitely underwhelming if you compare it to the previous two that I had posted... Quite disappointed!!! (Sorry for the short update as I'm still in my holiday mood!!!)

Chinese New Year Decoration @ Mid Valley & Gardens

You can be the judge and tell me which is nicer in terms of decorations... 'Pavilion', 'Mid Valley' or 'Gardens'??? In my humble opinion, I believe 'Pavilion' win this round again... Frankly speaking, the giant lantern in 'Mid Valley' and 'Gardens' look nice, but it is not enough to defeat 'Pavilion'...

But the person sitting on the rope is more spectacular compare to the giant lanterns!!! Just look at him sitting there without any harness!!! I don't know how the hell he ended up there in the middle!!!

The lantern decorations in 'Gardens' is slightly different compare to the one found in 'Mid Valley'... Much simple looking and the scale have been tone down a few notch!!!

Chinese New Year Decoration @ Pavilion

Nowadays, whenever there is any special occasion/celebration, I will definitely make a trip to 'Pavilion'!!! Not because of shopping unfortunately (unfortunate for 'Pavilion' but definitely fortunate for me!!!)... The reason is because of the decorations 'Pavilion' will put on display... In my earlier blog post, I blog about the 'Christmas' decorations and 'Pavilion' took the number one spot in my humble opinion... I'm afraid the same will be happening for 'Chinese New Year' decorations as well... Those incharge of decorating 'Pavilion' ought to have a pay rise!!! The role of 'Pavilion' now double as a shopping complex and also a tourist hot spot!!!

When you step into 'Pavilion', you will be greeted by this super duper HUGE dragon!!! As this year is the year of the dragon, it is befitting to decorate the whole place with a super BIG dragon... This is definitely the biggest dragon I've ever seen... (I know a lot of people think that dragon is a mythical creature but believe it or not, I actually saw one when I was a kid!!! The dragon was flying in the sky above a Chinese temple!!! I still remember the scene vividly and I'm sure what I saw was a dragon and I'm definitely not hallucinating!!!)

Notice all the people down there??? I was shocked when I saw the crowd!!! Nevertheless I took out my trusted camera and snapped away and suddenly, someone asked me what's going on... It looks like some big shot or artist is coming to 'Pavilion' hence all the crowds waiting to see them... The guy asked me who is actually coming and when my answer is 'I DON'T KNOW', he look damn shock... He said with a sarcastic tone "you're carrying such a BIG camera and I assume you know who is coming"!!! Hmm he thinks I'm a PRO!!! Not bad... Actually I'm quite happy to hear that... Haha...

After walking for half a round, I finally manage to find out who is actually coming... The cast from 'Ah Beng The Movie: Three Wishes'!!! Since I'm not interested to find out who is actually coming, is time to move on and stop wasting time waiting for them as I'm starving ('Carl's Jr' I'm COMING!!!)...

Okay I found out two of the BIG shots coming for the event... 'Lai Meng' and 'Yap Chin Fong'... Please don't mistaken the 'Lai Meng' for 'Leon Lai' of Hong Kong!!!

I love wide angle nowadays!!!

In my opinion, the star of the show is the main entrance... The dragon is definitely nice but the surrounding decorations are not as good as the main entrance.

Happily Restaurant @ Batu Pahat, Johor

Today is my mum's birthday but we decided to celebrate her birthday a week earlier since all of us were back in our home town last week... I've been to this particular restaurant a few times but only recently I realized that they have changed their name to 'Happily Restaurant'!!! What a nice name but do you know how they came up with the name??? The lady boss name is 'Happy' and coincidently her surname is 'Lee'... Viola, 'Happily' shall be the name of the restaurant!!! Okay I just made that up and is purely my assumption!!!

It is customary for us to order a plate of 'Longevity Noodles' when we celebrate someone's birthday in a 'Chinese' restaurant...

'Honey glaze pork ribs' that tasted quite nice...

This was my favourite dish of the day... The chicken is very crispy yet the meat is tender and juicy!!!

Looks burned but tasted really good!!!

My least favourite dish of the day... Too bland for my liking...

Spring Cleaning...

I admit that I'm kinda lazy to do household chores... Nobody likes doing it!!! But I don't know what happen to me lately cause I find doing household chores addictive!!! Nowadays I don't wait till my darling grumbles and nag before I start moving my butt... I do it automatically now!!! Surprise??? Me too...

Whenever I see our house clean and tidy, it really brings joy and put a smile on my face... Last two weeks, we decided to some spring cleaning to welcome a brand new year... The first thing we did was to sort out all the magazines... I buy at least 2 to 3 magazines a month and this applies to my darling as well... Sometimes the quantity is way more than that... And the best part is, I don't sell or throw away the old magazines that I had... Recently, my darling stopped buying magazines as those at home is driving her up the wall!!! She decided to sell off all her magazines and she even tried persuading me to do the same!!! Obviously she fail at persuading... But I did sell off some of the old magazines eventually...

The picture above show just a small part of our magazines collection... I sold a total of more than 200kg of magazines!!! And what I get in return??? RM42.80!!! Not bad huh...

FrankenBenz @ Goodwell Car Detailer

I don't have any pictures left for my 'Project FrankenBenz' so I decided to steal some from my buddy!!! Here's my 'FrankenBenz' in her full glory!!! I know you can't see clearly from these pics but currently 'FrankenBenz' is wearing a replica 'AMG Version 2' bodykit... The bodykit comprises of front and rear bumper, side skirt and a duck tail spoiler... Even though this is a replica unit, the attention to detail is just awesome...

Choosing a bodykit for 'FrankenBenz' is not something easy... I've consider a few and ended up with this... 'AMG Version 2' bodykit is my first choice so I'm not surprise that I went with this... I'm also considering 'AMG Version 3' and also 'Wald V4'... Since both 'AMG Version 3' and 'Wald V4' are design for 'Masterpiece' version of 'W124', I decided not to install these to my 'FrankenBenz' as it is not the newer 'Masterpiece' version... I personally like the 'Wald V4' a lot!!!

As you can see, beside 'FrankenBenz' there is another 'W124'... Don't let the look fool you!!! This is a 'pan chu sek lou fu' car!!! But you won't recognise the car now as it has undergone some drastic change...

'AMG' duck tail spoiler which is not really visible from this pic... Will try to snap some when my car is clean as it is super duper dirty nowadays!!! Really don't have the time to keep it clean... Although I've just painted my car, the amount of swirl on the paint is unbelievable!!! Luckily this can be rectify fairly quickly...

Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol

Out of the four 'Mission Impossible' instalment, I've only watched the first and the last... Since I didn't watch the second and the third, I can't tell you whether there is any continuation on the storyline... But I suspect there are some connection in between... Fret not as I will definitely watch the second and the third one real soon in order to understand the whole storyline...

As for 'Ghost Protocol', I find it really interesting (one of the reason that makes me wanna watch the second and the third instalment!!!)... It is one helluva show... In fact I'm not surprise looking at all the good reviews this movie is getting... So definitely a thumbs up for me and well worth your monies!!! What a good way to start year 2012!!! Next shall be 'Sherlock Holmes - A Game of Shadows'!!!

UNESCO United Buddy Bears @ Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur

'UNESCO' (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) 'United Buddy Bears' were on display at the 'Pavilion'!!! Faster head over before you miss the golden opportunity to snap a few photos... I can tell you that those bears on display were just plain awesome!!!

So what is this 'United Buddy Bears'??? According to 'Wiki', this is an international art exhibition organize by 'UNESCO' to promote tolerance, international understanding and the great concept of different nations and cultures living in peace and harmony...

Hmm how come the bull is riding on the girl??? It should have been the other way round right??? Nah, I'm not an artist so I'm not in the position to criticize!!! Nevertheless, I really like this 'Buddy Bears' as it is really colourful!!!

My iPad2 is officially running on iOS5.0.1!!! Frankly speaking, I didn't have the intention to update... Is more like being force to... Blame my itchy finger because I kept installing apps for my iPad2 and it decided to crash on me... I don't really know which apps that I've installed that causes me sleepless night... No matter what I do, my iPad2 still crashes and before I jailbreak my iPad2 I didn't backup 'SHSH blob' for iOS4.3.3 so I'm out of luck to restore it back to iOS4.3.3... Without iOS4.3.3, there is no way for me to jailbreak my iPad2!!! No jailbreak = BORING!!!

I know there are a lot of people who are against jailbreaking but I'm definitely not one of them... Free apps aside, what I really like about jailbreaking is the ability to transform my iPad2 into something else... Just look at the picture above and you know what I mean... No more boring looking icons and lots of enhancement that I can make... So guess I need to kiss jailbreak goodbye for the time being... Hopefully someone manage to come out with a jailbreak for iOS5.0.1 for A5 base devices...

On a side note, after playing with iOS5.0.1, I'm really liking what 'Apple' did to it... Definitely much better compare to iOS4.xx...

First of all, I would like to clarify about the name of this restaurant... Frankly speaking I don't really know what is the name but for us 'Batu Pahatian', we just call it 'Yong Chi' (mandarin for swimming pool) because this particular restaurant is located next to a public swimming pool... They are famous for their steamboat but they do have normal dishes as well... So if you're not a fan of steamboat just like me, you're in luck!!!

Looking at the dish above, most will know that we are celebrating someone's birthday... The star is my one and only grandma!!!

I don't quite fancy this restaurant as I think that it is overrated... But after sampling the food served on that day, I'm convinced that they can cook... The food were really delicious!!!

Overall I'm liking all the dish served besides this complimentary fruits that looks underwhelming!!!

Drag & Drift Evo 3 Aluminium Radiator For FrankenBenz

Since I lost all my 'Project FrankenBenz' pics, I've been really lazy to blog about the progress of the project because I need to search the net for the all the pictures that I need!!!

This modification is a really tough one if you ask because the W124 engine bay will not fit a original 'Toyota 1JZ-GTE' radiator... So what the workshop did was to modified the original 'Toyota' radiator to fit in the 'W124' engine bay... Since the last incident where I blown my head gasket, my radiator gave me a lot of problems... The radiator keep leaking and no matter how I repair, it will still leaked and it was really beyond repair...

Aluminium radiator is the way to go because of the extra cooling ability and not forgetting 'bling bling' factor!!! The only problem that I need to face is to find one that can be fitted into the engine bay without any modification... All the hoses inlet need to be in the correct place... The first radiator that I tried was from 'Nissan S14 Silvia'... All the inlet and outlet hoses were in the correct place but when I took it back, I realized that the intercooler hose came into contact with the upper hose and I don't intend to change to another intercooler piping... So off the 'Nissan Silvia S14' aluminium radiator... Looking at the dimension another aluminium radiator that can be fix into my 'W124' was from 'Mitsubishi Evo 3'... The height of the 'Mitsubishi Evo 3' aluminium radiator was a tad shorter for my liking... But the width was spot on!!! Unfortunately, the top inlet hoses was on the wrong side!!! But my mechanic told me that he can modified so I stick to the 'Mitsubishi Evo 3' one as I'm really lazy to change it again!!!

After changing to a aluminium radiator, the temperature stay at a constant 80 degree Celsius as compare to the normal 85 to 90 degree Celsius... If you ask me, I will definitely recommend this mod to those who wants to lower down their car temperature... This is a very good investment for me... After replacing the head gasket and radiator, my overheating problem is no longer a problem for me!!!

Christmas Decoration @ KLCC

Here's the Christmas decoration at 'KLCC' and you can definitely spot the difference between this and 'Pavilion'... I went there on a Sunday and the whole mall was jammed pack but the amount of people taking photographs with the decoration were actually quite limited...

In my opinion, you can't really compare this decoration with the one at 'Pavilion' as it would be like comparing a 'Fuji' apple with a normal apple!!! 'Pavilion' is in a different league of it's own!!!

Say hello to 'Santa'!!!

The Loaf @ Tokyo Street, Pavilion

Normally when we shop at 'Pavilion', the most upper floor is the one that we skip... In our opinion, we really don't see the point of going all the way up to the floor where there are nothing to see... We don't know what got into us the last time we went 'Pavilion' because we did went all the way up where we thought this must be the silliest things to do... Instead we got a really BIG surprised!!! Everything's different... It felt like both of us got a concussion and all our memory being wiped clean because all the things in front of us were totally different from what we used to remember!!! Besides that, they even gave a beautiful name to it... 'Tokyo Street'...

All the shops there are either selling 'Japanese' stuff or 'Japanese' food... By looking at the name, we are not surprise at all... But I must admit, all the 'Japanese' restaurant there looks awesome... Will definitely try it out the next time I'm in 'Pavilion'...

Since we just had lunch, the only thing that I can make it go down my stomach is something light... 'The Loaf' need no introduction as there is another shop a few floors below... However, this particular kiosk serve only one kind or bread which unfortunately I don't know what it's call... But you can rest assure that it is some 'Japanese' kind of bread...

'Bolognaise' for me and 'Green Tea' for my darling... The one shown above is 'Bolognaise' and sorry I don't have a pic for the 'Green Tea'... 'Green Tea' tasted just okay but the 'Bolognaise' is superb... I really like the flavour of it... RM2.90 for a piece... If you are sick of eating doughnut, maybe you can give this a try...
