Well, I’m not quite sure if anyone actually comes here anymore but I decided to give it a try. It’s been over a year since I last posted and quite a bit has happened. Notre Dame won a bowl game for the first time in forever and Notre Dame basketball was a huge disappointment. Just wanted to pop in and see how everyone is doing. I actually managed to get to two football games last season which was awesome. I saw the Navy game as well as the disappointing Syrcause game. Two very close ones. I added some pictures for everyone to see, just visit:

Wow. What a week of recruiting this has been so far. Charlie Weis has landed three outstanding players in Cierre Wood, Tyler Stockton, and most recently, Theo Riddick. Each one of these athletes is ranked in the Rivals.com Top 250 of 2009 and were given at least four stars. The Irish now have four commitments early on in the recruiting process; three offensive and one defensive.

Cierre Wood is without a doubt the most impressive of the commits. This 6′0″, 192 pound running back out of California is considered the third best player in the country according to Rivals.com. They ranked him number three in the entire 2009 class as well as the top running back of his class. Both Rivals.com and Scout.com awarded him five stars and his commitment is nearly as big as Jimmy Clausen’s two years ago. I will try to post some YouTube videos of him later on, he is a stud.

Tyler Stockton is a big pick up for Notre Dame because of his power. He’s not the biggest defensive tackle at all but he has the explosiveness to succeed. Tyler is a 6′1″, 290 pound lineman who may remind people of Trevor Laws according to Mike Frank. His hands and quickness are the key attributes that make him an outstanding commit for Charlie Weis and the Irish defense.

Theo Riddick is the latest Irish commit after making his announcement last night. He is he second and most likely the only other running back that will be taken in the 2009 class. Theo is a little on the short side at 5′10″ but makes up for it with his strength and power. He currently weighs in at around 185 pounds and was given four stars from Rivals.com.

The Captains for the 2008 Football season were named just before the start of the Blue-Gold Spring Game. They are Maurice Crum Jr., David Grimes, and David Bruton. Crum the defensive captain, Grimes the offensive, and Bruton as the special teams.

Maurice Crum Jr. decided to return for a fifth year and is named captain for the second season in a row. He is the 17th player in Notre Dame’s football history to be named a two-time captain and it is certainly deserved. Maurice has played in 37 games for Notre Dame and has started everyone of them. He is a leader and should have an outstanding season this year.

David Grimes is the most experienced receiver on the Irish and has made some very athletic plays in his career. He has yet to put up big numbers in any season but that could change this year with a healthy Jimmy Clausen. Grimes has played in 22 games for the Irish and has started 15 of them.

David Bruton is one of the most hyped players for the Irish heading into the ‘08 season. He recorded 85 tackles last year which was third best on the team and he is an outstanding special teams player. David has made 444 special teams appearances in his career according to UND.com.

The 19th annual Student Activities Fundraiser shirt was revealed last night at The Hammes Bookstore. It is once again navy, which I prefer, and is pretty decent looking. It’s definitely not my favorite of the shirts but the back looks kind of cool. The only thing I don’t really like about the back is how the gold helmet looks. I understand what they were trying to do but the helmet itself looks too fake. As for the front, it is rather boring but it’s very simple and clean. Overall it’s a good looking shirt and I’m ordering mine today. You can get it off of the Bookstores website or the UND.com online store. It comes in youth sizes as well. Here is what it looks like:

I apologize for the lack of updates the past few weeks. I just recently updated to the new version of Wordpress, version 2.5, which is the script that runs this blog. I had a little trouble getting all of my Plugins to work at first but everything should be working okay now. The shoutbox spam is getting out of control lately so I have to find a filter that will eliminate or at least slow that down. Hopefully I can find a solution to that problem ASAP.

I’ve also had a little trouble with my computer and network lately. I purchased a new desktop PC about a week ago and just nearly finished setting that up last night. But the big problem, while getting it ready was that the router on my other computer died so I was without internet on my main PC which has all of the oldNotreDame files. However, I just bought a new router last night and now everything is working well. I’m back in business with a new, faster computer and a new, reliable wireless router.

So I will get the Daily Trivia running again and will update the site just like I had up until a few weeks ago. Everything should be running fine but if not, please contact me with any problems you might have. (Kevin@oldnotredame.com)

What have I missed? Well the Notre Dame Men’s Hockey team made it to the National Championship game, an incredible accomplishment. They lost to Boston College in the game but played very well throughout the tournament. The win over Michigan was very impressive and fun to watch.

The Blue and Gold game is this weekend and should give everyone a good look at how things are going. I’m hoping that I can find the game on TV considering I can’t be in South Bend to see it. I look forward to seeing more of how each player has made themself better from last season. Specifically, I am very curious to see how Armando Allen looks. He needs to be able to break some tackles this season if he wants the chance to use his breakaway speed.

In other news, “The Shirt 2008″ is being revealed tomorrow. I can’t wait to see what the design looks like this year and will order one right away. You can pre-order a shirt now at the Official University of Notre Dame Athletics Online Store and it will ship starting April 21st.

Once again, I apologize for the lack of updates, but things should be back to normal now. Thank you for continuing to visit the site. - Kevin

I just saw this video over on Subway Domer and wanted to make sure everyone sees it. The practices are pretty physical for this time of year and everyone seems to be having a lot of fun. They are all giving 100% and working hard while enjoying themselves at the same time. The Sam Young punt return was hilarious. Also, a little fight like that can actually be real positive for the team in preparing for the season. Everything seems a lot more energetic this spring and this video shows it.

Notre Dame received it’s first football commitment of the 2009 class recently. Jake Golic is following the footsteps of his family and will attend the University of Notre Dame like his father Mike, Uncle Bob, and brother Mike Golic Jr. who is going to be a freshman this year. Jake is a tight end out of West Hartford, Connecticut and immediately committed to the Irish once he received his offer. I don’t think anyone is surprised by this, but it’s a decent pick up for Charlie Weis considering the trouble at tight end currently. The Fighting Irish have talent at the position but a lack of depth due to suspensions and such. Jake Golic is of decent size, similar to Mike Ragone but will have to bulk up a little bit more before he comes to South Bend. He is currently 6′4″, and around 215 pounds. You can catch a video of Jake Golic on Rivals.com here:
