Last fall during Paris Fashion Week SS12 Pierre and I decided to participate in a vendanges (<--grape harvest, click for pics) in Margaux, France. Well to kick off this PFW and welcome a dear friend's first time in Paris, Pierre hosted a wine dégustation with a menu du jour of confit d'escargot, boudin blanc, fromages, foie gras paired with Sauternes, fresh fruit for dessert and rockin' vinyl classics on the tables. He explained the vineyard's history, 5 grape varieties(Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot), it's traditional vinification process and how Île Margaux faces its most famous neighbor, Chateau Margaux across the water of the Garonne.
I regret not having photographed the event but I was having way too much fun eating and catching up with friends I hadn't seen in a minute so below are just some pics of the 2005/06 vintage stock Pierre selected to feature and a video from a Canadian program featuring Domaine de l'Île Margaux (<--click for further info).

Not just today but everyday is a good day.
J'adore Paris, not a day goes by that I'm not grateful.
Our apartment comes to life no matter what time of the day it is. It's perky during the day but sexy at night with Tour Eiffel and Sacré Cœur as the last thing I see before bed and the first when I wake. All it's missing is the Eames Rar rocking chair in pistache we ordered. Expected delivery is 8-10 weeks... ahhh the persistence of time... I know, I know, I know patience is a virtue.

Boy was I packin' flava' and attitude back then.
I've been thinking about cornrowing my hair this summer again, fortunately my grandmother Nona educated me on the art of self-cornrowing so I've never had to drop a five on it. B-girl scouts honor I'll do a speedy video when I do because it normally takes me about 1 hr 1/2 to complete 10 rows with wooden beads throughout.

So excited our new cowhide rug arrived today, j'adore its subtle minimalism and how quietly it blends with the rest of our place. As for the Oaxacan wool rug we had in the living room(seen here), well it's been happily upgraded to our bedroom.

The plum colored faux fur beauty in the middle I found today at a vintage shop in Le Marais marked down from ~~40€~~ ~~20€~~ to ka-ching! 10€. The coat's cocoon cut fits similar to the sold out 1500€ KA-CHUNK! of change Isabel Marant oversized fur coat, I just have to shorten the sleeves a bit #diy.

Bebel Gilberto - Samba da Benção

Hi familia these are just some pics from our early Valentine's Mexican dinner I prepared on Saturday. Pierre wanted me to title the post Woman On Top because the pics reminded him of the film with Penelope Cruz (lol). I thought it was a lil too raw so we went with the movie's French translation instead.

In this post I mentioned how Pierre & I have a tradition of finding a gift we can both enjoy BUT in typical Pierre fashion he always gift's me a lil extra somethin' somethin'. Now the last time he surprised me, I lost consciousness(he proposed and asked my dad for my hand in marriage). Well I didn't faint this time but I did feel some vertiginous symptoms coming on. My lil extra turned out to be my all time favorite plant(2 cacti) with a card containing a printed picture of my petit cadeau.

I'm still speechless & outta breath as I write this.

update: I feel much better now, I told Pierre that I rather regard this gift as an early groom to bride wedding gift.

And that it was.

Recently my girl Audrey from Frassy hosted a piña colada night at her place. Girl got skills! She captured unforgettable moments that to me represent the essence of Valentine's Day so I just had to share them today with you.

Wow, what a moment worth remembering.

Every note was synced and on beat to the unicorns singing, glitter sparkling, cocktails shakin', chicken fajitas sizzlin', and laughter bustlin'; simply music to my ears.
You see the essence of Valentine's is quite simple, be with the people you care about no matter what the date. I am sooo grateful to live in such a romantic and magical city where I get to relish time and space with inherently beautiful and inspiring friends and family. I wanna thank you all this Valentine for the wonderful memory and Audrey for bringing us together. Bisous!

Early Valentine's Day Present

Cocinando Suave - Ray Barretto

This morning Pierre and I headed out to Le Marais for some breakfast grub and shop for our Valentine's Day present. We share a tradition that when it's time to give each other a gift, we find something we both can enjoy. So instead of gifting a unisex Jo Malone cologne, Herradura Reposado tequila or ~~toys~~ digital media gadgets like before, we decided to build an artwork collection for the apartment. We went to the gallery Art Generation to take a look and Pierre found a charming piece by the French artist Delphine Raynal aka Cacou. He said the girl reminds him of me when I blast my Salsa music and dance around trying to teach him a new move when we're slow cookin' or cleanin'.
hmmmm...I can see that.
Today she dances on beat above our existing artwork; tables & crate collection, West African kora and bongos. Now all we're missing are some congas... Papi?. I can totally see Pierre finishing his painting(4th pic to the left)while I set them congas on FIYAH. Nothing like sharing time and space together while we each do what we love and then teach the other.

Gotta go, I'm making homemade Maseca corn tortillas and sangrita, cooking Mexican tonight. Good thing we have the Herradura Reposado tequila for this special occasion.

Oh meu Deus!
Europe has been blasted with an arctic funk these passed couple of weeks. This 0° C / 32° F Parisien weather has got me longing for summer and my Rygy bikini. It's been tough because I know back at the motherland it's summer and this February 18th, South Americans are gearing up for the biggest party of the Americas and I can't be in Rio to wear my feathered fantasia and samba no pé behind the gorgeous passistas, baianas and floats down the Sambodromo alongside my Escola de Samba Estação Primeira de Mangueira like I did a few years back.

Anywayzzz, I've been flipping thru old pics and found some about the little things I love of Paris in the summertime. For example, I miss having lunch at the Jardin des Tuileries during my work week, meeting friends for drinks at Île Saint-Louis, stepping over subway grates to cool of the ankles or grabbing a velib to the Bois de Boulogne for a Sunday afternoon picnic, play a lil futevôlei and then relax reading poetry aloud playing a mini harp while the boyf rows the boat, just playin' all's true but the harp.

moral of the story- Forget your sorrows you got to let it go, it's time for carnaval so you got to free your soul.

Debussy - Clair de Lune

I am so excited I have finally found the wedding dress of my dreams. People have asked me what I have in mind but truthfully the thought of wearing a traditional white/cream wedding gown didn't feel right for me. I was certain I would find my dress someday while I was out la la la-ing around ~~Paris~~ Chloé. I'm a carefree & romantic vagabond which is exactly why this French fashion maison spoke to me. I'm enamored with Chloe's ethereal and feminine aesthetic so naturally they were my ~~1st~~ sole choice. I've ordered my nude colored silk gown and flats (yes flats, the embellished bow ones) and now I anxiously await for my fitting. Now to find one for my civil marriage, hmmm... definitely going vintage/thrift hunting, I ain't blowing the budget for that one.

note: For my big day I'm feeling Liu Wen's bare makeup, Lou Doillon's bedhead hair and sans bling but my ring; minimal effort I can do myself.
I don't want to feel constricted or look like some Hollywood red carpet production.
I just wanna have fun, feel free, look fresh & natural and not be too put together...très Parisienne.

Like Ay Dios Mio, I'm engaged y'all!
So you see family I do have a valid reason for my neglect. It's just that since the evening of 11-1-11 I have been enjoying quantity-quality time with my debonair macho man, amazing friends, family and wedding arrangements for an 8/25/2012 vineyard wedding in Margaux,France.
What more could this busy bumble bee ask for, I have been blessed with everything that truly matters to me; Love, Health, Familia, Friends and amaaazing In-laws (nothing's worse than getting no love from your mother in-law).

During Paris Fashion Week Pierre and I had opted to head out to Margaux to harvest wine grapes and learn its vinification. Although I was away from Paris, in between the runways of this breathtaking vineyard, beautiful, vivacious young folk (mostly med students and stylish too) sang, danced and clowned around as they hand cut the grapes.
Thanks to this special learning and laborious experience there is no doubt I have graduated to the next level as a wine enthusiast. One thing's for sure, come Paris Fashion Week SS13 I'll be rockin' that Margaux runway with my floral Dr. Martens and grape cutters once again.

Wanna give a special thanks to my boyfriend Pierre and my in-laws for making this dream come true, I heart you all as much as I heart wine :p.

Instead of staying in Paris for Fashion Week, Pierre and I have decided to go to Margaux and participate in a wine grape vendanges (harvest) this year because for this Colombian coffee picker that's an opportunity of a lifetime to handcut such infamous grapes and secondly... Paris Fashion Week is always around the corner and vendanges are once a year. As a wine lover, I feel honored to participate in the traditional way of harvesting the grapes, but! wine enthusiasts rest assured that I will not be pulling a Lucy Ricardo and stomp the grapes, that tradition is long gone.... ahhh maaaan.(photos soon)
