Settling into a whole new city sure does take a liiiiitle bit of getting used to...
Recently my days have been filled with lots of unpacking/organizing and exploring, as we've just made the big move to Auckland.
I've been focusing on comfort and chucking together outfits right before I head out the door, if I'm totally honest with ya.
This orange jumper set off my loose patterned jumpsuit like a charm, and you can't go wrong with popping on some trusty converse for casual everyday wear :)

Recently I've been l.u.s.t.i.n.g over these items above big time!
While on holiday I came across Status Anxiety Wallets in a small beach-town boutique and I've been obsessed with the brand ever since. I think their Audrey Wallet in either Olive or Purple is just beautiful and I can't get it off my mind.

I've also been weirdly keen on the really ugly/Istillthinkthey'recool birkenstock sandals - I had some of these babies as a kid and I feel like I'll be in possession again soon...

Also, I should probably address the elephant in the room - I've been MIA for way too long and truthfully I've really missed blogging.
I'm back and have a bunch of new inspiration for the new year so I shall talk to you soon :)

Rimmel Apocalips in Celestial

Celestial is as close to a nude as I would ever dear to go - I just can't pull off a true nude... it washes me out like there is NO tomorrow.
The Apocalips formula is so dreamy to wear, it goes on like a gloss and dries to a beautiful opaque matte. Check out my previous post here, where you can read all about my thoughts on formula, application and lasting power.

P.s don't kill me all you MAC lovers out there, but I think I prefer these to the MAC mattes... eeek.

Rimmel Apocalips - Big Bang: Review + Swatches

After seeing the gorgeous swatches on many UK blogs, I could not wait to get my hot little hands on Rimmel's Apocalips range of Lip Lacqures. Rimmel claims these lacquers have the intense pigment of a lipstick but with the shine of a gloss that 'lasts and lasts', and I'm with them on that one!
I picked this colour as well as Celestial up off ASOS - by doing this the two products combined came to less than I would pay for one here in NZ ($25.00).

Big Bang is a pure, true red with more blue undertones than orange, which is ideal as it helps to prevent the nasty yellow teeth look that some more warmer toned reds can give. I was sceptical at first because I thought with these being so glossy that they would slide right off your lips but in no way do they do that. The formula settles in to a matte finish after about 30mins wear and then lasts forever, which I really like. I wear this to work and it stays put for a good 8hours minus one touch-up after eating. I find the application wand a little difficult to use but my best advice would be that less is definitely less when applying this product as an overload could get very messy! Also, a lipliner is important to stop the not so hot feathering look.

Big Bang is super pigmented and lately I have been pretty partial to a good red lip - this is 100% my go-to red lippy!

I'm just going to begin by saying these brushes are of an amazing quality for the price. I received them a few weeks ago and have used them every single day since. The Flat Top brush immediately replaced my Real Techniques Buffing Brush - the xoBeauty bristles are a a lot softer and the brush is very dense so I feel like it really buffs my foundation in to give a more flawless look.
The Tapered Top brush would be ideal for contouring as it has the perfect shape and is once again very dense and has extremely soft bristles, although I use it for highlighting and it does a fab job.
When I first opened these beauties up there were a few bristles that had shed - I quickly removed those and totally expected more to fall out but to my surprise I haven't had one single bristle come out since then.
All in all I think these brushes are of such a lovely quality, I use them on the daily and don't have a bad word to say about them. The xoBeautyShop also has free shipping throughout NZ and Australia which is a sweet bonus.

Typical Comfortable Outfit

Once again another casual, comfortable outfit from Me... I don't know if I'm the only one but I never feel comfortable wearing jeans, they're too restricting and I never feel 'ready'. A skirt and top is the only way to go, it's a no brainer.

I also had my hair cut again while visiting my parents house. You can't really tell here (plus I'm having a bad hair day) but the back is cut quite a bit shorter than the front and I love it. Short hair is so addicting because it's so easy to do, it literally takes me 5mins max to curl + style my hair.

This necklace has practically become a part of me since I bought it last week, it hasn't come off my neck - I love it. I also added a nice big coat and scarf to this outfit to make it wearable for the day in this crazy Winter weather :)

Uni Fashion Collection + Illustrations

This is the final hand in work for my Fashion Studio Paper I've just completed at Uni.
Our task was to design a collection with a minimum of 8 looks for Autumn/Winter 2013, and it had to build on previous work from the beginning of the semester. The collection was aimed at the mid-market.

My collection Urban Tropics is an exploration of my two very different homes, Tauranga and Wellington.
Through the juxtaposition of elements extracted and inspired by each environment, a very unique collection was born. Wellington is very much a man-made, angular concrete jungle; this is expressed throughout the collection through the use of geometric pattern and print, along with angular sharp lines. Tauranga on the other hand is more of a tropical environment, surrounded by nature and flowing organic lines. I have used the very vibrant colour palette and the occasional more soft, draped garment to represent Tauranga.

This collection is not designed for the faint hearted. It contains a lively mix of tropical colours, contrasted with strong angular lines and geometric patterns.
Urban Tropics has a very strong sense of confidence and a high-spirited atmosphere accompanies the bold garments.
This collection certainly packs a punch and will add a unique twist to any Winter Wardrobe.

To someone who simple looks at the designs it may look like an easy task, but if you've ever designed and worked digitally you'll understand it's definitely not as straight forward as it seems. Also there is obviously a huge body of work supporting these finals but though I'd just show you a snippet of what I've been doing.
Also the 'Samantha McLean novellaplace.com' was not on the images for hand-in.

Red Lips & Polkadots

I picked up this minkpink cardy on a whim on my way to work when I wanted a quick fix for the day, and I've been loving the snugly, oversized feel of it. One thing I'm not so keen on are the pink pearls but those will be snipped off soon enough and it'll be like they never existed ;) I'm just not a pink girl - don't hate.

You'll also notice that I've been getting into the swing of red lips lately and I now see why there is such a massive cult following around them. Swiping on a slick of red lippy instantly brightens up the face and adds interest to an otherwise boring outfit. I also welcome the extra confidence boost that seems to accompany the lippy :)

I've been eyeing up Mac's Rebel and Russian Red for the past few days but need a good recommendation of a fab red lipliner? Any suggestions please leave them below.

What I Wore: Saturday Sushi Date

So my boyfriend may or may not have got a bit snap happy today, hence the photo heavy post :)
I'm so excited to finally have an outside outfit post up - YAY, no more garage photoshoots.

I've been practically living in my Patient boots of late, so I thought I better switch things up and wear some different shoes for once - crazy I know, living on the edge I am! Sooo I paired my Windsor Smith's with some socks and just rolled with the punches basically.. I also wore my op-shop cardi which is looking a bit worse for wear but I just can't bare to retire it.
I just clicked this outfit is very boho/Olsen esk, verging on the edge of homeless? HAHA oops. I just love to be comfortable don't hate.

I need your help - I was wondering if you have any recommendations for a good purpleberry/violet lippy for pale skintones like mwa? I love Rimmel Violet Vamp but it has rubbish staying power and I find it slides right off after about 10mins, I'm also not keen on the shimmer. So if you have any suggestions please leave them below!

Also, I'm thinking of incorporating some videos into my blog posts featuring beauty product reviews and I also want to do some of the funny boyfriend does my makeup tags I've seen floating around on YouTube.. Is that something you'd like to see, or shall I keep it strictly writing? Let me know what you think in the comments.

The Winter Jacket

I've been indulging in a bit too much retail therapy as of late - not that I'm complaining, but it's having rather negative effects on my bank account as you can imagine.
I found this Stussy Duffle Coat just in time for Winter, it's got a hood, pockets and I'm also a lover of a good black coat - so this ticks all the boxes.
It's getting darker so much earlier latley with the Winter weather setting in here in Wellington. This forces my outfit pictures to move inside which I'm not necessarily a fan of - I think I need to go on a hunt for some cool new photo spots, because there's only so much of the same spot one can handle.
Remember change is good.

Okay so I've been major fan girling over this lovely lady for awhile now.
I just love her effortless sense of style - she dresses her small frame so well and to be honest I look through her pictures just admiring her amazingly perfect hair. I've had major hair envy for oh so long and over the weekend I decided to go for it and cut myself an Angelica Blick inspired hair do.
Watch this space for my new haircut...

Also as you may or may not know my laptop currently with the insurance company getting the screen repaired, so apologies in advance because I don't know when it will be finished yet and blogging off my boyfriends laptop is difficult to say the least.

The Black Patent Booties

Working in retail requires a comfortable outfit for sure. I threw this outfit together this for work this weekend and actually really like it. I swear the spur of the moment outfits turn out much more successful than those ultra planned ones?? Maybe it's just me. Looking back at it now I do look a tad disco-ball esk with the sparkly tee and shiny boots, but it's fun none the less.

The cardi and tee are both thrifted so are one offs - I really like the 'character'(holes) that the cardi has from it's previous life. I also picked up these cool patent leather boots the other day which I surprised myself with - for so long I have detested patent leather shoes so I don't know what I was doing but I'm loving them so far. They give off the classic doc martien vibes while being more feminine and not so chunky monkey which I love. These babies will be a staple for this lovely winter weather which has apparently set on Wellington of late.

In other news I drank for the first time in awhile last-night, and to be honest it just reminded me of what I wasn't missing out on. I was left feeling not-so-flash the next day and hadn't gained anything from it, I don't know how I went so hard in first year of Uni. Kudos to me. I feel like a granny now ;)

I hope the weekend treated everyone nicely and you all remembered to remind your Mum's just how much you appreciate them this Mothers Day. What do you think of Patenet leather shoes?

Another comfortable, very casual work outfit of the day from the weekend. I've been wearing these sandals to death lately but I just can't help it, they just go so easily with everything I put on.
Today it was like the world was ending here in Wellington. There were torrential down pores, floods, an earthquake, thunder, lightening and wind - an all round ripper of the day :) I bet you're all jealous!

The Camo Crop + Button Down Maxi

I come to you with another outfit of the day - and as you can see the wind was not on my side on this day. Luckily I was working inside so it didn't phase me :) Although it does make trying to take graceful photos quite difficult... I had to sift through many gumpy, weird faces and poses to try and find some half decent pictures today.
Once again I'm wearing my lurrrrvly Windsor Smith sandals that are a dream to wear - so comfortable. I paired them with this button down midi skirt (that's more of a maxi on me) holla shawwwtays, and this Army surplus top that I butchered up into a crop along with the lace vest, of which I also butchered too.

It's beginning to feel more wintery - but some days the weather here in New Zealand just can't make it's mind up.
My day has consisted of downing copious amounts of tea and coffee(delish hazelnut flavour) while sitting on my bed all rugged up, trying to complete a News Media Assignment for Uni.
Although I'm not complaining - I have spent a raaather large portion of the day catching up on my Fav YouTube gurus and lusting over way too many beauty and make-up products..

Just to update you all, I've submitted my assignment and also just got my Construction paper mark back which I got an A- for, yay!! Proof that a lot of hard work does pay off :)

I decided to do a kinda his and hers outfit post today because I got a sneaky shot of my lovely boyfriend+photographer when he was least expecting it :)
This was today's outfit, just a casual Saturday of which I worked for a few hours and shopped with my boy for the rest - I saw so many amaze things buuuut I'm trying to save; key word trying so I had to restrict myself and only get a few things.
I busted out my trusty highwaisted, black Levis - which everyone needs a pair of in their closet, and my new Windsor Smith sandals which I'm in love with - they're so comfy and add some much needed height, jackpot!
As you can see it was a beaut day here in Wellington today, who even said it was Winter time anyway? We shot these down by the waterfront and it was just alive with people enjoying the last of the summer sun.

Best Mascara EVER

Loreal Telescopic Mascara - Carbon Black $35.99

Finding a great mascara can be tricky, but once I tried this bad boy I knew there was no going back.
I've been using Loreal Telescopic for years now and it's seriously my favourite mascara ever. I've tried so many different brands and types as I luuurve emphasising my lashes and nothing compares to this.
I like to enhance the length of my lashes - I'm not so worried about volumising, and don't actually mind a bit of clump like others do. I'm lucky enough to have quite naturally curled lashes, so don't curl them and therefore can't speak of the curling abilities either.

My favourite things have to be the brush and the formula. The brush is made out of rubber, it has 4 rows of little bristles and is really flexible so can get all of the hard to reach places like the inner and outer corners. It's also nice and small unlike the Maybelline Colossal Mascara which I mentioned a few posts back, this small brush helps to avoid getting mascara all around the eye and messing up the perfect base you've probably just applied.
The formula is really nice too, it doesn't get flaky or dry towards the end of the day and also doesn't have any weird funky smell to it.
It does a fab job at lengthening the lashes, but doesn't do much in the way of volume but I'm not worried about that.
The packaging is nice and sleek, and the 'handle' a good size so you have quite nice control over the wand.

Overall there's nothing I can fault with this mascara, it's the bomb. I continue to repurchase it over and over again I don't see myself looking for a new one any time soon. It's got the perfect formula, colour and brush so is definitely a keeper in my books!

Head To Toe Vintage

Everything you see is Vintage/Thrifted/Op-Shop, apart from my massive bag which is some from some cheapo shop ages ago. This would be a very pocket friendly outfit if I could remember exactly how much everything cost me.... I'm thinking each garment would be around $10 - so it's a pretty sweet deal if I do say so myself.

I dragged these items out of the back of my draws after having forgot about them for so long, and they kind of re-ignited my old love of Vintage clothing. I love the look and feel of them and the fact that I can walk down the street knowing I won't pass loads of girls wearing the exact same pieces, which can often be the case.. cringe.

It's hand-in time again for me, which means late nights accompanied by many cups of tea and gingernut biscuits, and if I'm lucky I might be able to talk my boyfriend into staying up and keeping me company.
I've got to keep it short and sweet as must continue on with my Fashion illustrations.. which I may just post on here depending on how they turn out ;) Oh the internet is such a distraction.

Just Ya Normal Sunday Morning Activity

Who doesn't love a good hike at 4am on your Sunday morning.
As you may or may not know I was at my parents home for a lovely break for a week or so this week just been.
I decided it would be a great idea to convince my Family to wake up at 4am with me and hike up the Mount. It wasn't too hard - Mum, Dad and my Sister were all keen, my brother - not so much.
The lights looked so gorgeous on the way up, it was so surreal climbing up it in the pitch black, then once we reached the top we watched the sun rise which was so pretty.
It was definitely a different type of Sunday morning, not my normal 9am sleep in that's for sure!

Weekly Highs + Lows #1

Highs;

1. Currently sitting in my bedroom at my parents house, listening to the chirp of birds, the sing of cicadas and actually feeling the sun on my back(see above). Cupboards stocked with food and last but not least; Fresh fish, fruit and veges. A lovely change from Windy Wellington - insert car alarms and club music at all hours here.

2. Verrry exciting job opportunities (hopefully).

3. Arriving home to my parents and my puppy still remembering me. I was scared he would forget, even though I'm his fav.

4. Lists, and loads of them.

5. Getting my hurr did. I used to be so anal about my hair getting cut and would only let the hairdressers take off the tiniest bit. Not I'm addicted to the chop, it just feels so much better - More chic I think.

6. All of the hustle and bustle of Wellington Fashion week right on my doorstep, unfortunately I couldn't attend because of my long lists of work, but fun to observe none the less.

7. Being spoiled with lunch dates, fresh fish and scallops - theres something about Uni student that screams 'I need Food'. I'm being showered in it. Save me.

8. Finally making a Facebook page for my blog - but it's lonely and needs likes so click here to have a stalk.

9. Dragging my family up at 4am this morning to go for a hike in the dark and watch the sun rise with me. More on that tomorrow :)
All i'll say is that it's been a long day.

Lows;

1. The huge ichy-bite thing that appeared on my cheek the other night, currently sporting a huge red mountain and I am not a happy camper. I must add it makes me want to scratch my cheek off. Think I jinxed myself in my last post - Oh the joys of over sensitive skin.

2. Loads of Uni work that won't do itself. Rats.

3. Being up since 3 this morning - was going to make a spontaneous McDonalds pancake trip with the boyf, but we decided on scrambled eggs instead. Dining fine or fining dine? Finally feeling the burrrrrn. I need my beauty sleep.

The Oversized Knit Cardigan

I'm loving this long oversized knit from Glassons, it's so snugly and warm and reminds me of the Cardi that Sammi featured on her blog back in December, here.
This was an outfit from earlier this week while I was back in Wellington - I'm now at my parents house for a few days which has been lovely so-far. Although today the weather is not soo nice, my Mum and Sister and I are going out to lunch and to go girly things and chill.
I forget how nice it is to be home sometimes.
Car alarms, music pumping at 4 in the morning and sirens are just a few of the things I don't miss while being here. I've been enjoying family company and delish food, also my old bed is the bomb! I got my hair cut shorter which I'm excited about, but now I want to go even shorter now? Check my instagram selfie out and tell me what you think?

Chocolate Overload

HAPPY EASTER EVERYBODY!
I hope you all had a lovely day and indulged in a little (or a lot) of yummy chocolate treats.
I know I certainly did, I was spoilt by my Easter Bunny and have now made a pledge that after all of my chocolate is gone I'll steer clear of the sugary goodness for awhile.
Here are my oneteaspoon iggy's that I scored for just under $100 in a sale in a surf store here in Wellington, I got these and another paid of Madlove printed pants for $185 all up - so I basically got two for the price of one. Converse are also my go-to comfy shoes, they never fail me, and my oversized black top is a nice, loose fit which I like.
I spent the day chilling out with my boyfriend, eating chocolate, watching movies, walking and we also went out for a lurrrvely dinner.

I am now on a 2week 'study break' from Uni, so will have loads of time for blogging, yay!

Little Miss Procrastinator

I come to you from my bedroom, where I am meant to be completing a News Media assignment (due in two days) along with Fashion, Garment and P.R assignments - but instead I'm editing and writing a blog post.
Hi I'm Sam and I'm the biggest procrastinator of living history.
I'm also chugging my way through a Redbull which is so out of character for me. I never drink energy drinks, but in a hope to re-energise myself I'm downing it - hand in time really messes with my head I tell ya!
Anyway onto the outfit - I'm trying to photograph my outfits most days, so if they aren't always amazing I apologise, but I'm just being real and documenting what I wear on a daily basis. I'd also like to add that I'm a poor Uni student so if I have some items on repeat, that's the reason why... I'm sure my fellow Uni students can relate :)

The 'T-Shirt dress' as I like to call it is actually just one of my boyfriends T-Shirts that I nicked out of the wardrobe while rushing to get ready this morning. Luckily I'm a shortie so can easily get away with his T-Shirts as dresses and no-one even knows ;) He got it from AS colour, which I think may be only a New Zealand store, but I've linked it about so you can check it out.
I found this denim jacket at an Op-Shop(thrift shop) sometime last year for around $10, and then I put the studs in the collar one day when I was feeling crafty. I have no idea why I did just a small section of studding? But I'm just rolling with it I think it looks fine.
Also lastly the boots - they're just a cheapo pair that I picked up to wear until I find my dream winter boot - and I've got my eye on a few!

Double Trouble

Creeper booties - Bronx via Wildpair / Black knit jumper / Vintage flower button down dress - thrifted

While moving house I re-discovered some pieces of clothing I completly forgot I had. The bootie style creepers that I'm wearing here were a favourite of mine last year, and I recently dug them out from the bottom of my shoe collection and thank god I did. They're just so comfy to wear and also add a sneaky bit of height which never hurts when you're under 5' like me. Being black suede they go with everything and are a great go-to item in my closet.
The floral button down dress that you can just see peaking out the bottom was from an op-shop, which means I scored it for a bargain and I'm definitely not complaining!
I'd just like to add that I'm SO excited for winter to finally arrive here in New Zealand - I lurrrrve layering and being nice and cosy warm.

I've been home all day trying to get some of the masses of Uni work out of the way, I did get some Fashion illustrations done that I'm quite happy with... Although this involved a truck load of tea consumption and lead me to realise that I think I've become the queen of procrastination. Success.

I threw this outfit on the other day while I was getting speed ready for Uni. I think that with the printed pants I don't really have to add much else to this outfit and I'm good to go. I love a good casual outfit every once in awhile.

I do have quite a few outfit pictures backed up on my computer so that means no excuses for long breaks without updating. Allllso I've recorded a video and have a few more in mind that I might put up on youtube then link to here. What do you think?
