Day of the dead shoot my friend Alex and I did last week. I, of course lagged on posting it. I have been planning it in my head for a while, like locations and what not. We did our own makeup and chose our own outfits. I asked my roommate Camille to help shoot us because I lost my remote and she is awesome but we all collaborated on the photographing. It was cold and foggy, like Marina tends to be. In other words: perfect.

In this:
On me: BCBG lace top, thrift maxi skirt, topshop shoes, pamela love cuff, vintage conch belt, vintage veil. On Alex: Thrift lace top, BCBG lather skirt, doc martin shoes, her DIY skeleton earring, vintage bracelets, vintage acid wash denim jacket, blanket from Mexico.
All headpieces and spike headbands made by me.

To get here you have to park far away and walk through a dark scary tunnel that is practically pitch black even in daytime. It leads to a bike path, some abandoned buildings, then the dunes. I'm not afraid of the dark but fort ord is crawling with who knows what. I like the lighting, and you can see the ocean from here. I see this little tower from the highway everyday, I finally went exploring for it.

wearing: vintage skirt, 90's top, vintage jacket with d.i.y. faux fur collar, vintage horse belt, vintage purse, miss sixty boots(borrowed from camille ), jewelry: mix of thrift, vintage and gifts.
Josh and I decided we needed a nice meal for a change and we didn't really get a chance to celebrate our five year anniversary a couple of weeks ago. We don't really make a big deal out of those things, we mainly just wanted to enjoy each others company with some good food. We decided on, well, I persuaded him to go to The Haute Enchilada in Moss Landing. The food is wonderful, fresh Mexican-fusion and it has this cool eclectic-Mexican feel to it. The inside is full of bright bold colors and amazing original Mexican-inspired art and decor. The whole area deserves a good visit every once in a while.

The weather was overcast but warm and breezy, which is a nice change around here. I wore this beautiful vintage skirt. I love the print, and the fabric is so light and soft. It even has bells on the drawstrings. It just makes me happy, and it doesn't eat me, which is a major plus for my petite self when it comes to garments with a lot of fabric.

The belt I have on used to be my big brothers from when he was little. It has a bronze horse head set into the silver buckle with some old school horse brands all around it( I despise the practice of animal branding but the symbols themselves are kind of cool, it's also where we get the term 'brand' as in clothing). The belt itself has flowers embossed into the leather. I re-discovered it in high school and haven't let go of it since then. I have a vivid memory of this belt from when I was eight or so, my uncle needed a black belt for his son one day when they were visiting. He took this one, it used to be brown, and painted it black with some shoe polish. Now it looks like it was meant to look all distressed with it's brown undertones.

wearing: everything vintage except for J.C. tardy wedge

This dress just reminds me of rust, but pretty tie dye rust, so it was only natural that I go hang out in some abandoned building in Fort Ord. The place is teeming with them. Can you believe it was only $1? The main compliment I got was the sleeves, It's really hard finding vintage dresses that have well fitting long sleeves! The best part was no sweater required, this particular day was a nice one but the sleeves helped. We don't get summer here. The weather here is basically mid 60's year round, which is why I pretty much dress the same year round. Hopefully we get a few weeks of warmth soon, or days would be nice.

The bag is from one of those pawn shop/gold buyer/vintage accessories & jewelry(yeah, random I know) store in Salinas. It's an authentic military bag used in combat. I saw it months ago but passed and could not get it out of my head, so I went back and got it. I am so glad I did! It is amazing, it fits so much, even some school books so I don't have to switch bags. The main thing I like about it, aside all the little military details and belt hook-up, is if it could talk it would have some crazy stories.

As for the belt, I found it at an extremely random yard sale last year. I say 'extremely random' because it was on a Wednesday at 3 p.m. and it was hooked up to a plant. It wasn't even for sale, but out of all the junk it was the only thing that caught my eye. The people running it gave me the weirdest look when I asked how much. I had to reconstruct it since it was all dirty and the elastic was worn out. Coincidentally, I have seen the same exact one on etsy but much nicer. It's a small vintage world apparently.

in this- skirt: thrift, top& sunglasses: f21, boots: etsy, jacket: rachel roy, purse: antique fair, jewelry: mixture of thrift and vintage.

I scored this amazing purse for $8 at an antique fair in Moss Landing. It's a little town (i'm not sure if it wold even be considered a town or if anyone really lives there) off of highway one about fifteen minutes from where I live. The most notable landmark is the Moss Landing power plant that has two huge towers. It's right off of the coast and houses a variety of roadside produce stands, think Casa De Fruta only way better because the beach is right there. The best part about Moss Landing it the Antique shopping. It has some of the best antique shops around and most of them sell vintage clothing. Anyway, before I start writing a research paper on Moss Landing I'll get to the point of my story. My friend Alex and I randomly drove up one day to visit the military surplus store and noticed a ridiculous amount of traffic and wondered what was going on. It turned out to be this amazing, gigantic outdoor antique fair! It was like the best of the best of the VERY best flea market and antique sellers in the area came out. They had racks of vintage clothes, tons of jewelry, and the most amazing furniture. I was pretty much in heaven, and the best part about it was the spontaneity of it all.

I ended up with this gorgeous vintage purse and some other cute little things. I only ended up spending about $20 but I was more than satisfied. The only downside to the purse is the fact that it is super old so of course the lining started to fall off the first time I used it, then the button loop came off. I had to reconstruct it but it was well worth it.

As for the boots, my favorite boots started falling apart so naturally I began the search for similar ones a few months ago and ended up with these vintage black moto boots from Cookiesandcreme on etsy. She was even nice enough to refund me the extra shipping cost which is always awesome! So thanks for that! She has some pretty rad vintage things like this amazing dress that I just drooled over. I recomend checking out her shop, she does sales too!

in this: f21 top and skirt, vintage cowboy shorties, vintage beaded purse, child's jacket and all vintage/second hand jewelry

Finally an update, I know, I know, I am a terrible blogger. I just want to thank you for your lovely and encouraging words and the fact that I would not be doing this anymore if it weren't for some of my readers, so thank you and I am deeply thankful. All cheesiness aside, I am wearing (what I would consider) a super basic outfit. Working at a coffee shop as a barista requires waking up at five in the morning some days. On those days I usually stick to this type of outfit as I don't feel like putting much effort into dressing that early. A mini skirt with a flowy top, a pair of tights and some boots are usually my go to outfit. I own more mini skirts than shorts and pants combined so it isn't very hard.

I've been on a bit of a Forever 21 kick lately. They have super cheap/chic basics such as this top and skirt. They were both under $7. I love the prices, the availability, and the wear-ability. Basics are something my wardrobe is always lacking as I rarely buy other than thrift. That is mainly why I rely on f21, the major problem is since the pieces are so cheap, so is the fabric. I am a firm believer in the whole 'you get what you pay for' thing and F21 would be the perfect example of that when it comes to clothing. The prices may be good but I don't think these pieces will survive more than a few washes. I suppose I am willing to sacrifice it for a few F21 'disposable' garments.

For the jewelry I am wearing here, I got every single piece for A DOLLAR or under and I am absolutely in love with all of them. I wear most of these pieces on a daily basis. The rose ring was a birthday gift from my dearest co-worker. That and the star/moon ring are my favorites.

I got the shorty cowboy boots from ebay for 99 cents (+shipping)!!! I needed to replace my old ones that have basically fallen apart, so sad, but I have some new ones to break in now.

Lastly, LOOOK AT MY NAILS! I did them my self, thank you. People kept asking where I got them done. For the record, I have never had my nails done and yes, the right side was a bitch. I got the idea from a tumblr photo. I was just sitting around tumblin' when some nail photo blog popped up and I saw this design, I just though to myself, I can do that! Inspiration always strikes at unexpected times.

in this: Vintage gown, vintage jacket, vintage platforms, vintage sunglasses, i.n.c. duster cardigan, mixture of made/vintage jewelry, Pamela Love feather cuff♥.

Wore this last week on my day off and am barely posting it now, what can I say? I work a lot.

Everyone kept asking what the special occasion was because of the dress, that is actually a night gown. No one called me out on it so I guess I fooled them. I find a lot of gorgeous vintage night gowns that I pass up the urge to wear as dresses, mostly because of the cheap looking polyesters, but this one was different. As soon as I saw it, I envisioned this moto/gypsy mess with fringe, platforms, silver and leather. Needless to say, I captured what was in my head this time.

I am always going on and on about how I can never find the perfect vintage moto leather jacket, I've been on the hunt since high school! The main problems are fit: they are always HUGE, and pricing: when I find the one in a million that fits it has to be $200. I can now stop bitching, since this jacket came into my life. I found it at a little store in Monterey called Luna Blu. It's a trading co. kind of like crossroads. I mention the trading co. part because I basically got it for free after trading in some items and receiving store credit. It was around $80 originally with 20% off! I still have about $30 left in store credit! Best transaction EVER!

I would go into depth about each and every jewelry piece I am wearing here but I wouldn't want to bore you with my amazing deal bragging so I'll keep it somewhat short. I made the lilac stone necklace after weeks of trying to wrap stones in jewelry wire, I finally got it down! Rest assured I will be making more. Two of the stone rings I'm wearing here are from a 25 ring deal I scored from ebay for under $2 (no, not a typo). 25 amazing silver, (plastic) gemstone rings for $1.99. Ebay is awesome, I'll leave it at that.

wearing: f21 pants($8!), thrifted free people top, vintage sheer cardi(?), vintage bag, ebay shoes, vintage Bill Blass sunglasses, vintage conch belt, mix of thrifted/vintage/made jewelry.

I wore this to the beach on Sunday, yes I know I'm at some train tracks in the photos. Let me start by saying that this was one of the most impractical outfits I have ever worn. I mean, jeans to the beach, really?! It was a bit easier to walk in the sand with these 5 1/2" heels platforms but I really just wanted to wear these pants.

I had been looking for a pair of high waist jeans for a very long time after being convinced that they didn't exist on the Monterey Peninsula. I finally found some at forever 21 for $8! They are still a bit big, not as high waisted as I wanted, not vintage and these are the only shoes I can wear them with (lame). I feel as if hemming them will ruin the flare. I don't think I will ever find the perfect pair of jeans, hence why I never wear them. I feel like those stilt people from the circus, you know how they wear those pants that are nine feet long? Yeah, exactly how I feel and mostly the look I was going for: tall and long. I am none of those adjectives but it's nice to pretend and I like the platform peeking through the bottom of the denim.

I fell in love with every detail of this top: the color, the gold Indian fabric, the slit in the back, free people!...but when wearing it I realized it was waaay too low cut and very annoying since I had to constantly keep pulling it up. It is my perfect 'would be' summer top if it fit right, but I seem to constantly have that problem. I can still shop in the kids section.

Lastly, I can not tell you how excited I was to find these vintage Bill Blass sunglasses in near perfect condition for under $5. They are my new favorite and I can't believe I haven't worn them on here yet.

Do you have any constant wardrobe problems? Please share, make me feel a little better.

wearing: thrifted american apparel dress; f21 leather; thrifted oversized top; vintage moccasins; vintage mexican bag from my mom.

I am a huge fan of american apparel, who isn't? They have the best basics, quality photography and natrual looking models for the most part. Founder Dov Charney really knew what he was doing by throwing sex in everyone's faces. I find myself constantly on the site lusting over their goods.....the reason I bring this up is because although I love it, I have never purchased a single thing from the actual store or online. I have dozens of AA garments but I've found them all at thrift stores. The main reason being that I can NOT buy clothing without actually trying it on first unless it's something very cheap. Why don't you just go to the store you ask? The nearest one is about an hour away and it is an outlet meaning they have crappy crap and I hate going there. Yes, it surprises even me that I have found so many AA things at thrift stores, there must be some rich girl in my town that has my taste and is my size and buys AA stuff like candy.

Anyway:

I tied and safety pined my AA dress to conceal all of the peppermint syrup stains from work. It pretty much worked, I can't see any sugary stains. I've been seeing girls tying their maxi's at the bottom and wondered what kind of purpose it held other than a 'look,' maybe they are just as clumsy as me.

I really wish I had the time to do this everyday, documenting fashion, and not like once a month how I've been doing. If you don't already know, my dream job is to be an editorial photographer. I want to do this everyday. Well, not this exactly, more like this but better, a huge part of it is styling the looks too. Sometimes when it's been a while since I shot something I go a little crazy with pent up creative energy. I don't like shooting myself but I use what I have.

p.s. I swear I don't look this creepy in real life.

Loving this silky star print top I got at the Marina Mercantile. It was a size 8, way too big for me, so I shrunk it. Now it fits lovely and a bit over sized, just the way I like it. I'm a sucker for silky tops and star prints, worn along with my star & moon necklace I made, star bangle and star card necklace. Think I over did it with the stars? Oh well, its subtle-ish.

This skirt is a basic for me. I can pair it with just about anything. It's so stretchy and comfy and olive, need I say more?

Black tights are another basic for me. I think I wear them about eight days a week. I've been keeping count. Black tights have been a constant in my wardrobe for about three years. I would much rather wear black tights over any kind of pant any day! They are more comfortable and are much warmer when layered. My record is four, but two usually suffice. They have become my second skin.

I finally found an affordable conch belt($3)! Would have preferred one with turquoise insets but I'll settle for silver. Also, I've been wearing these creepers non stop. They come in handy when you are short and there are puddles everywhere from super rainy days.

I find wearing bangles extremely annoying. I love the way they look but can't stand wearing them. First off, they clink at every movement, and secondly, they are always huge on me! So I found a nice solution to this on-going dilemma: wearing them on the upper part of my arm. It keeps them in place, I don't loose them and they look freaken cool. Problem solved.

in this: french connection silk top, thrift; olive mini, thrift; black tights, little girls section at wal mart($2); suede creepers; conch belt, thrift; random jewelry mostly thrift including star & moon necklace I made.

in this: Burberry cashmere sweater, 90's crushed velvet dress, 90's shoes, jewelry: mix of thrift and ebay rose quartz plugs. Currently reading 'Tattoo Machine' and drawing in my 10 cent journal.

Channeling some kind of 90's witch with this black on black here. Looking nice and creepy. My entire outfit was thrifted except for the silver belt which was given to me by my manager. She really pegged my style down with that one.
This Burberry cashmere sweater is the softest thing I have ever felt in my life, including cashmere. Would you believe it was only $3? I couldn't! I would say it's my best knit anything. It is so soft and warm and layers over practically anything.
The boots are kind of hideous/kind of really cool. I like the chunky heels, the pre-worn in brown leather. The side zippers are a pain in the ass to zip so I just wear them unzipped.
Also, I found an awesome tarot card necklace at the Marina mercantile. I wish you could see better detail. It is of the star card. I found it's basic description:
"The bright and radiant Star is the best card to meditate on to increase your self-esteem. It can improve your ability to trust in yourself. The Star radiates your own inner beauty."
Coincidentally, rose quartz, which is what my plugs are made of also represents self healing.
It has become increasingly impossible to do outfit posts as of lately! Most days I leave the house when it is still dark and get back home after dark. I usually have about an hour in between school and work, so not much time to take photos. I can't wait for day light savings!
Anyway, enough excuses. Now to the important stuff: I made these pants!!!!! I used an old dress that was way too big on me and deserved a face lift. Well, more of a Heidi Montag (that's right, I am coining the term.....phrase??). I remember seeing some velvet bellbottoms on Spanish Moss a couple years ago and I have wanted some ever since but since I was extremely broke at the time I just dreamed. Kind of makes me wonder why I waited until now to make some.
I found this top at the BCBG Gilroy outlet. I hate going to the outlets. They always have such mediocre, overpriced crap, but I do like to check BCBG. I usually find some unique amazing things there. I love the silk, love the lace, love the cut, love the extra long sleeves and especially love the buttons. This is one of those tops that I consider wearing with almost every outfit although I try my best not to. Thrice a week is a little much.

In this: Made velvet bellbottoms; BCBG top; wet seal wedges(falling apart); vintage clutch blazer and cardigan; etsy nebula pins; mixture of vintage, thrift and swap meet jewelry; abalone plugs from ebay.

Got this coat, which is part of a skirt suit, about four years ago. Both pieces fit about three sizes too big originally but I altered it to make it fit. Now it is one of my favorite pieces. I love its transformative qualities. It can go from coat, to blazer, to dress in no time. And the fabric is divine.

in this: thrift top: notions. thrift skirt: 90's. thrift clutch: 80's. f21 coat. target socks. DKNY tights. swap meet boots. rings: made, antique, disneyland.
view from my balcony

My favorite new boots! I found them at the Santa Cruz swap meet for $4! I'm still in shock that they fit me perfectly. This is very rare in a swap meet shoe find. They are everything I had been searching for in a boot. I love the textured patent leather and the chunky-yet-sleek heels that remind me of the chloe docs. I suppose they will fill the void for now. They make great rain boots and puddle jumpers, since it rained for what it seemed like non stop in the past weeks.

The clutch has been my go-to purse lately. I love the texture, the rich color and the fact that it can fit everything I need to carry, which is a lot. It is surprisingly roomy with about five separate zippered pockets.

As for the top, it is the softest polyester I have ever touched in my life! It feels like thicker silk, only softer. And I can throw it in the washer! I was surprised at myself for getting it since it is literally the ONLY tan thing I own.

The bottom photo is the view from my balcony about 20 minutes before sunset. I love having a balcony.

I hope you all had a wonderful new year! I'm still getting used to writing 2011 every time I write the date, but then again I go through that every year, and every month, so I guess it's not that big a deal? I spent it partying in SanFran and had a blast! Too bad I was too lazy to take any pictures.

top left to right:

Pamela Love necklace: I love this day of the dead inspired piece even more than the original tissue paper cut outs.

Abalone gauges: love the colorful look of abalone. I own other abalone pieces which I wear almost daily. Specifically I would prefer a non tapered made from a natural material in 3/4.

Antique triangle necklace. I love the look of antique silver. It has a gypsy feel to it.

Some crystals to make jewelry out of would be amazing!

Bullet shell crystal necklaces. This coincides with the last. I am way into crystals, gems and minerals. They are so naturally beautiful and come directly from the earth.

Pamela Love: double cage ring

Pamela Love: cross ring

Some more horse shoe charms to replace the ones I sadly and tragically lost.

Pamela Love arrowhead ring: I've said this before but Pamela Love is hands down my favorite jewelry designer. I basically want everything from all of her lines. The woman is simply amazing.

Some more minerals cut into pretty shapes and hung on chains. I want some pre-cut ones to make jewelry with.

A large vintage trunk to house all of my fabrics and to double as a coffee table. This is one of those items I search for every time I go to a thrift store/yardsale/swap meet. The only times I do find them is when I conveniently enough don't have any money. Then I kick myself later when I see the same exact one at an overly-priced 'antique' shop for %300 the original price.

A gypsy rug would look amazing in my living room under the vintage trunk.

Cannabis Rose perfume by Fresh: One thing I have never had is my signature fragrance and this is it! It smells so good. I wish it came in smaller sizes so I could actually afford it.

Some leather pants that actually fit me. This is another item I constantly search for at thrift stores but never find ones in my size and since they don't make leather pants in little girl sizes I think I will be searching for a long time to come.

High-waisted flares or bell bottoms: I would prefer vintage ones but would settle for new ones. This also falls into the 'forever-thriftstore-search' category, but like #14, It is very hard to find my size. Also, high-waisted pants just don't exist in the Monterey Bay Peninsula. Who decided that low rise are the only type of pants that stores should carry?

Balenciaga bag: I have 2 fakey cheap ones I found at thrift stores and I used them so much they are falling apart. I have a yellow and a black. I love them so much, too bad they suck. Having the real thing would be nice since they are well made and will last.

Chloe-doc marten platform SHORT boots: I've wanted these since they came out in 07. They have an amazing platform-wedge-heel I want in a shoe. Not necessarily these exact ones, since they are basically impossible to find now, but a pair with a heel similar to these would be so cool to find!

in this: vintage top, scarf & boots. gap pants. random jewelry. made connector ring.

i love everything about this top: the epic bell sleeves, the color/print, the sheerness of the fabric. it even has cute little triangle buttons, that aren't very visible here. i got it months ago and could not decide how to wear it, so i never wore it till i saw this video. i was inspired by krystal simpson to pair the scarf and boots with it.

Some of my latest obsessions:
-This olive JAK trench/parka/jacket....not sure what to call it but I have been wearing it almost every day. I love the adjustable drawstrings on the waist and at the bottom.
-This double chain ring I made, inspired by this and this, then I saw this and had to add the heart charm to it, although you can't see it. I mean, how simple is this right? I even sautered it so it wouldn't fall apart as easily as some of my other jewelry projects have. I used adjustable rings so they can be worn on any finger. I love the almost endless ways there are to wear it.
-These sheer DKNY tights I acquired from my mom. I never understood why someone would pay $32 for a pair of tights, but after wearing these I understand. They are so amazingly soft, they don't have runs in them after wearing them the first time and even thought they are a couple sizes too big I don't have to pull them up every five minutes. Definitely better than the bargain $6 pairs that are basically disposable, especially when it comes to the sheer kind.

I have been lusting over Bonadrag's jewelry since I discovered the site last year. Mostly because they have every Pamela Love piece I want, but also because I would like to make everything. It would be quite the challenge.

in this: JAK jacket? Vintage velvet dress, Topshop stirrup boots, random rings, DKNY tights.

I won a Pamela Love giveaway from What is reality anyway. I rarely enter giveaways, but Pamela Love happens to be my favorite jewelry designer, the woman does amazing things, so I couldn't pass that up. I decided to enter last minute and to my surprise, won! I am so excited and happy to own this amazing piece of jewelry! I love everything about it: the sterling, the feathers, the wonder woman bullet-dodging qualities.....

I have been wearing it almost every day. This is an item I will treasure for the rest of my life. Thanks Krystal and Pamela Love!!

It's hard to believe that it's been more than a month since my last post. Life has gotten in the way. It feels like so much has happened since then but at the same time so little has happened. With school, work and temporary living situations, I haven't been very motivated to take photographs of my outfits. Not to mention the shear laziness I have been enduring due to the fact that most of my clothing is packed up in neat little boxes. This top, denim jacket, a pair of leather paneled leggings and a few button ups have been in heavy rotation. It helps to not have many choices since I need to be out of the house before the sun rises.

I have been lusting and dreaming of these Topshop booties since their look book debuted early this summer. I made a studded headband. Similar to the Givenchy one, I wanted a black and silver. Didn't come out as neat as I wanted because of the glue. I've been on a headband/chain headpiece kick lately (also made a couple headpieces). I guess since I do nothing with my hair I have to make some effort to make my head look somewhat interesting.
I've been obsessed with matcha lattes lately. Aside not being able to sleep, they are perfectly tasty and so easy to make!

Currently my favorite jewelry-
1,4: made headband
2: thrift-ed polished rock/michael's glass locket; vintage & michael's horse shoe pendants
3: yard sale-ed bracelets
5: f21 ring, yard sale, disneyland mother of pearl ring, yard sale rose ring

I have a fixation with sterling silver and mother of pearl.

in this: vintage blouse, rachel roy scalloped shorts, vintage wooden platforms, mixture of vintage/garage sale/f21&made jewelry, kiss sunnies

I finally found a pair of vintage wooden platforms!! After searching for a long while, I can't believe I found a pair that actually fit! They are a bit scuffed and scratched in places but overall they are very comfy. Besides, what can you expect from something so vintage? Now I hope I can resist wearing them with socks.

The first thing I did when we got our car back was go thrifting. I only went to one store but I found some amazing things, including this vintage top. It is perfectly sheer and grey, with a high neck and scarf attatched although I would never wear it all the way buttoned up unless I want to feel like i'm choking, which I don't. The tiny polka dots impressed me because they aren't too abnoxious as polka dots tend to be.

I got these scalloped rachel roy shorts on clearance at macy's. Its always nice finding something formerly expensive for cheap that you love. They are xs but still a bit big. I wish I could hem them but it would ruin the scalloping. I like them so much i had to get them anyway. I wore a variation of this out for drinks, strawberry and mango margaritas are amazing. Then some drunken shopping, it's actually quite hilarious if you've never tried it, just don't actually buy anything.

in this: free people top, thrift skirt, mossimo sandals, vintage & michael's horseshoe charms

Draping, lace, open shoulders, cuffs, open back & gray. This free people top has been in heavy rotation since I got it. I just love everything about it. I mentioned before how I wanted a horseshoe charm and I found one at michael's first, then another at an antique shop. I put them on a chain and its been on my neck for weeks. I missed having a wear-everyday-necklace like I used to. The brightness of this skirt makes me really happy. Especially on days where it could be a little brighter outside(like today). Its a not so basic, basic I needed....or could have just made but thrift stores just beat all.
