Hi All,

My latest blog is called Lokolee. And it discusses a bunch of things about local business.

The cool thing about local businesses is that they are owned by people that live in the community. People that more than likely have a vested interest in that community and want to help support the community and make it better.

If you are living in that community it only makes sense that you would want to help that community out too. And one of the best ways to do that is to support your local businesses.

Best Self Published Book Ever

There are not many books I can whole-heartedly promote. This is one of the few. I have his first edition book and it was amazing. He just came out with a second edition which I think is amazing. He added over 100 new pages to it and quite a few new topics and expanded on some others. This is a book that you must read if you care about succeeding in life. His words and advice are timeless. Well wouldn't you know I got slapped today with a one two punch in the face of whats free... And, how the internet is making it so. There is a rather long article I found awhile ago (actually an excerpt from a book I think) that talked about how free is "the thing" these days. And how companies like myspace can capitalize on free. aka "make money" Well today I show you the two things I am getting for free.

Here is a post I know you all will enjoy. I think it also highlights the importance of writing on a regular basis and keeping a journal. And dare I say...blogging!... on a regular basis. After throughly discussing the name for a .com site to host my newest blog at work I was somehow reminded of my old web site and how I wrote an interesting bio & life mantra. I have posted it on my newest site jeremyday.wordpress.com and I think you will love reading it.

It basically highlights what I had done up to that point in life (I had just turned 24), and where I wanted to go. What's funny is that I am practically there. I am now a fulltime photographer (paid) and a practically fulltime blogger (unpaid). ;-) My next step is to become a professional blogger (the difference between an amatuer and a professional is that they get paid) that writes according to this dictum. Dictum = "To inspire people to greatness". And this means inspiring people no matter what field of endeavor they are in. Now if only I could come up with a cool .com name that isn't taken I would be set. Any ideas, please leave them in the comment section. "Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, your my only hope!" ;-) But no, really, I need your ideas so please leave them in the comment section.

Here is a link you MUST check out! Google Project 10 to the 100. Its very simple. Google wants to use 10 million in funding to do five projects that can change the world for the better. They are requesting user submitted ideas that will then be voted by all Google users. I think this is a brilliant idea and you should check it out. Deadline is Oct 20th so go soon...

What 800 billion really means...

So is anyone really wondering how much 800 billion really is? Let's put it into perspective. Right now the US population is just over 300 million. There is a total of about 120 million working households in America. Divide those two numbers by 800 billion and let's see what we get. That's $2,700 for everyone including 1 year olds and retirees. Or about $7,000 for every working household in America. This is how much it's going to cost YOU! Time to get patriotic and contact your Congressman...

So I was just checking out Technorati's Top 100 blog list because I have decided to get really serious about this whole blog thing and I just discovered yet another wonderful site. I was on their to try and de-duce what exactly makes a great blog and what kinds of blogs people visit all the time. (I am not entirely sure, but I believe the top 100 all get at least a million page views a month.)

Anyhow, I get down to #35 and its a site named dooce.com with no description. Well I ask myself a question. What the hell is dooce.com? So I check it out and the site design immediately hits me as having good feng shui. Good good, but what the hell is it about? So I read some articles and they give me a few chuckles, but its nothing too outstanding. Then I notice some of her articles have 1000+ comments. Whoa! And I am still thinking how can this be...

Then it just hits me. She is the most "extrodinary" writer of "ordinary" stuff I have ever read. So take a look for yourself and tell me what you think. I promise you won't be disappointed...

Back In the Saddle

"Back in the Saddle" has always been one of my favorite sayings. For me, it means getting on with what I am meant to be doing. It is something that feels good. That exact thing is getting back into writing. This may sound weird to some, but it has a strange draw for me. Sometimes I really don't like the work of writing, but I am always mad at myself for not putting in the work. I love writing, yet I don't want to do it sometimes. Mostly because I am too tired or focused on other things...

I am always inspired by other great writers and I just found another one in Steve Olson. Here is a touching blog post that I think everyone can appreciate... enjoy!

Well here it is. Proof that I graduated. Woohoo! I have some other pictures coming when my friends email them, but here is me with my diploma. The number one question I get asked is, "What are you going to do now?" Well I am sticking with photography. No matter if I can make more money elsewhere I gotta follow my passion. Eventually I hope to teach and do some consulting work. Help small businesses grow. We will see what God has in store...

Anyhow, I know I have been on hiatus for awhile, but I hope to start blogging even more now that I have a little more free time on my hands. My MBA is done, the kitchen remodel is almost done, and after the next month or so work should start slowing down. Until next time...

Political Must Read

So as many of you know I read Ross Perot's Autobiography not too long ago and posted a blog about it. Now... I have something else to show you. I subscribe to the Dr. Housing Bubble blog and he made reference to this site. I have yet to peruse this site, but I innately know it will be good.

The polls all show that the economy is the number one thing on the public's mind and yet neither politician seems to be tackling the issue. I can't wait for the debates! Obama is promising a lot, but I doubt he can simultaneously increase social programs and lower taxes. He is guaranteed to raise taxes on the American public, if he can push his social programs through Congress at all. What we really need to hear is talk about a balanced budget and the end to deficit spending. We need another "Contract with America" like we had in the 90's.

Anyhow, here is his website. Its called Perot Charts. I can't wait to take a look...

In other news, Tom and I dropped the gas tank on my Jeep. The seal around the sending unit was just about completely broke, but that doesn't seem to explain the leaking. I think I might buy a whole new gas tank and fuel pump. We shall see. We worked till after dark so we need a second look when its light outside again. Thats all for now.

Global Rich List & Mini-Update...

So as usual I run into some amazing stuff on the net that I am going to share, but first an update...

1. I worked my first 60 hour week for the season this past week. This week may be more around 50. Luckily I love my job! Yet its hard to keep up with everything.

2. The kitchen is halfway ripped up now. We have to wait longer for some replacement cabinets because the first ones were the wrong size. *sigh* so be it... Pictures on the way soon!

3. Matt just bought a lovely 42" LCD tv. Its pretty sweet. Just in time for football season!

4. I think I am getting really close to switching churches. For the past year I have been feeling less and less like I belong there. Its a weird feeling, and it just won't go away. Ive never been one to believe God really has you leave a church home for any old reason. However, I have put a lot of thought and prayer into for the past year so we will see.

5. Finally, I found this cool link today called the GLobal Rich List. Go on the site and type your salary in. It then compares you to the rest of the world. Ive always known this to be true but its really cool to quantify it. Its great for perspective too!

Matthew & Chandra Wedding

This weekend was so much fun. I am pretty happy with my new Nikon D40. I shot with a 55-200mm lens the whole time. Downside was my flash was ineffective for fill-in at that distance and created red eye. I learned that I need a flash setup to raise my flash away from the camera to keep red eye from happening. Other than that I had an awesome time. I took over 400 pictures and I am happy with about 30 of them. So here they are...

Standing Up

This post was going to be about being assertive and standing up for yourself. Its been over 24 hours since I started this post and all I had was the Title. Now I have thought a lot about what I really want to say. Its more about conquering fear than anything. Its also about knowing when to battle it out and when not to.

I think too many times, in order to be nice, we go with the flow instead of asserting our will on a situation. For instance, the infamous burned or distasteful meal at a restaurant. Some people would do what I believe to be the right thing and send it back. Some people though, in order not to create conflict, just suck it up and eat it. This just to be nice! I don't think there is too much virtue in that.

Now that isn't the end of the world, but I use a little example to apply to bigger examples. There are some major injustices in the world. Some of the worst I think is when people use their power to persuade people to do what they otherwise wouldn't do for their own benefit. Nearly everyone is out for themselves. The flip side of the coin is that even nice people won't think of you much unless you stand up for yourself. And the thing is that people respect you more for it. Don't get me wrong. There are certainly situations where it is better to step down. The thing is that I would say most or all of the people reading this error on the side of stepping down when they should stand up.

But I digress... I need to end on a happy note as usual. My stepping up to the plate comes in a different form. I went and spent a large amount of money on a Nikon D40 camera today. I am so excited! It costs three times as much as my last camera and can do so much more. I am shooting a wedding tomorrow with it. Here's the thing. This is me stepping up. This is me not listening to the people who say that wedding photography is really hard and I can't do it. To saying that you can't get enough jobs or ask for much money to do photo shoots. To saying that I can't do something... period. Oh, it gets me fired up! I hate when people say I can't do something. This camera will more than pay for itself in the next year. That's my promise to myself.

When it comes to something like this, I gotta do it for myself. Nobody else. I have been getting myself really fired up about photography. I am reading, practicing, and learning so much. And I love it all. The fall season is about to hit full swing and I am ready for it. The thrill of it all excites me. So off we go...
