King Tide Goes Down the Drain

King tide is here! Head for the hills!

According to our sensationalist televsion meteorologists this is a King tide. It's actually a spring tide which occur twice a year when the sun, moon and earth line up in a particular arrangement. (I'm not sure what that is:)

Actually last years "king" tide was worse as can be seen in the second to last photo. A normal high tide can be seen in the final photo.

This is the Derby Wharf Range Light which sits at the end of a 1/2 mile long wharf in Salem Harbor, Massachusetts.

Finally what we've all been waiting for since 2008. Four dollar a gallon gas prices. Media has been reporting this so much the oil companies decided to go along with it.

Yay, one penny more to go!

Since October 2010 fuel prices in this area have crept up $1.50. I think it was around $2.50 when this whole thing started. The fuel market, based solely on speculative fear has passed off one excuse after another for the flocculation.

Firstly there was the home heating oil season. As winter approached speculators feared a bad winter would lower fuel supplies.

Then there was the crisis in Egypt. The Suez canal runs through Egypt. Speculators feared that it might be shut down for shipping if the Egyptian government feel into the wrong hands. The Suez Canal shortens oil tanker routes dramatically.

Then there was the crisis in Libya. Speculators feared that the Libyan government might fall into the wrong hands and reduce the oil supply.

Well friends, here is is the beginning of May 2011. The home heat oil season is over. Egypt did not fall into the wrong hands. The Suez Canal is still open. The Libyan crisis is on going and getting boring. It also doesn't look to good for Muammar Muhammad al-Gaddafii. It's my understanding that the US doesn't use much Libyan crude oil as well. It was speculated that the tragic disasters in Japan would slow oil consumption there thus increasing world supply.

Now the excuse is that the summer travel season is upon us and the demand will go up.

One wonders what good news is there that can make the oil speculators happy? Will the death of the number one terrorist in the world, Osama Bin Laden, do it? We shall see.

Kim Carrigan Please Stop Saying "Chick"

You know what I mean Kim, you're a smart woman. And I really think you're a woman that is a role model. You exemplify how much women can achieve.

"Chick" is a derogatory term toward women. It degrades and objectifies women. When you use it describing woman in the news at Fox25, and I have heard you say this several times, you are saying that woman is nothing but a mere piece of meat, a sex object. It's a put down.

Kim, that term just doesn't even sound classy coming from you. I know you have more class than that. Heck you bring the only class to that anchor desk. You're always impeccably dressed and well manicured. It's something one would say at some biker bar and I don't think you go to many biker bars.

I know you have to put up with the Dufus Department there. (Gene and VB) I really think that their idiocy rubs off on you. Don't try to be "cool" by saying that word while you are making small talk with Gene during a broadcast. I realize this is a live broadcast. Just try to be careful with your word choice. It sounds so cheap coming from you. As for small talk... leave that for someone with a small brain... like Gene.

Other than that Kim, we love you.

Fox25's New Expanded Morning News Format

It's been a while since I have posted anything here, but I'm not going to apologize to anyone about that, because that's what everyone else does when they feel guilty about not posting. I don't feel guilty, I'll post when I want to post. That's a fresh new position to take isn't it?

I have been following Fox25's new expanded morning news edition. In all seriousness I really feel bad for these people. They have to work an extra 90 minutes. Gosh they were already broadcasting 4 hours every morning. Now they are on for 5 1/2 hours. Can you imagine how early they must have to wake up to start a 4:30 AM broadcast?

Recently they let go Doug Meehan, the traffic reporter, and they have been "trimming back" their staff slowly over the last few years. Not only does the on air team have to pick up the work done by Doug and other's let go, but now they have to put in more time. I sure hope they are all well compensated!

Meteorologist Cindy Fitzgibbon is doing more spots on the regular news. She was speaking about the Boston Globe's new online subscription service this morning. Originally she was just doing the weather and traffic reports. The traffic reports she had to pick up when Doug left.

In my opinion Cindy is the most intelligent and unbiased reporter/anchor/weatherperson/trafficreporter they have at Fox25. She should be getting a much higher salary than Kim, and the Dufus Department. (Gene and VB)

Cindy, you go girl! And please don't become a tainted and biased like your colleagues.

Oh the carnage, oh the humanity... It was a hellacious night. The fury of Hurricane Earl swept overhead as we all hunkered down holding our doors closed, praying for mercy. When the sun rose today we all peaked out our windows as if to see total destruction of the world as we know it. We all looked in awe of the damage we saw. Hurricane Earl ripped through this tree as you can see.

Damages in our area have been estimated to be in the tens of dollars! A humanitarian effort has been started and help is coming to us from as far as across the street!. It will take as much as 3 minutes for the community to get back on its feet!

This hype sounds familiar doesn't it? Hmmm, maybe the 24 HOUR LIVE COVERAGE by the Boston television stations on what was a dud of a storm. Yeah Earl WAS a hurricane. It WAS a Cat 4. But within 12 hours it lost its power and by the time it got here it was a mere tropical storm. Heck we have seen worse nor'easters here than what happened here yesterday. You don't see 24 hour live coverage for a nor'easter do you?

Hurricane Earl was another example of meteorological boondoggle. Meteorologists can't make up their mind so the try to scare the daylights out of the public. Oh yes now the government has to mobilize ALL emergency resources. I saw a few emergency workers laughing all the way to the bank this morning. They did take a few moments to look a the broken tree limb then went on there merry way.

The Hurricane Earl fiasco reminds me of a recent no show blizzard that was for casted by our educated guessing weather experts last winter. My grandmother could tell you what the weather will be better than all your hypotheses combined. Maybe you all need is to start asking your own grandmothers what the forecast will be.

East Albany man believes 116 pound tortoise stolen

ALBANY - A man from Vermont's Northeast Kingdom says his 116-pound, 20-year-old African tortoise is gone from the enclosure where it passed the winter and he thinks it was stolen.

Peter Lowry says doesn't believe the tortoise could have escaped on its own from his East Albany home because it would have had to climb over a sheet metal barrier and through a plate glass door to get out.

Lowry tells the Barre-Montpelier Times Argus he has had the tortoise since 1991.

In the summer it lives in an outdoor enclosure. In the winter it shares a building with a menagerie of exotic birds.

Lowry is an exotic animal breeder. He also has macaws, cockatoos, other tortoises and some snakes.

Police say they're investigating.

How can you be certain it was stolen? Remember the story of the tortise and the hare? They said it was impossible for the tortise to win the race and look what happened. Besides, those damn birds were probably driving him crazy.

Meteorology - A Science as Good as Heads or Tails!

Recently I have decided how pathetic the weather forecasting industry is. Meteorology, "a science that deals with the atmosphere and its phenomena and especially with weather and weather forecasting," has taken on a whole new role. Not only are meteorologist predicting the weather, and a very poor job at it I must say, but they are now predicting tsunami waves.

When did ocean waves become part of the atmosphere? Did I miss that meeting? Are water and air now the same? Nevertheless I witnessed several television "meteorologists" predicting when tsunami waves were going to hit Hawaii after the terrible earthquake in Chili. Well waves did hit Hawaii, but bigger waves than those hit Hawaii EVERY day. They had hyped up this phenomena to the point that they had spectators on the hills surrounding Hilo Bay. Even one surfer was waiting in ernest for the "ride of his life." (he didn't get it) Please "meteorologists," stick to the atmosphere. You might not do that well, but at least that's the area you studied... I think.

Did you happen to notice the big catch phrase they were trying to get all the tsunami experts to say? "We (Hawaii) dodged a bullet." That "bullet" was more like a slow pitched softball. You could have picked up the the island and moved it away from those waves.

John Harrigan, editor, reporter, farmer, woodsman, et-al from the North Country Notebook of New Hampshire has given up on watching weather forecasts on television. He says that televsion weather reports are all about the hysteria. I tend to agree. He prefers the natural method of forecasting. ie. cloud formations, wind direction. That works here too.

A few weeks ago it was forecasted that we were to have a "terrible" winter storm. Forecasters estimated at least 10-12 inches in this area. This storm was one of the storms that "crippled" the Washington DC area. ("Crippled" is another topic to flame.) Our city called a snow emergency nearly 24 hours BEFORE that storm was to start. I woke up the next morning expecting to see snow up to the window sills. Guess what? NOTHING... The local TV reporters where trying to save face by saying, "it's (the storm) still coming," or "its not over yet!" Guess what, NOTHING. Schools were cancelled, streets were cleared of cars, "non essential" state personel, (another topic to flame) were told to stay home for fear they would be all stranded in their cars ala bizzard of '78 style.

I believe the Boston forecasters were a bit jeolous of their Washington DC counterparts. They wanted a huge storm in which to revel. Is it possible that their paychecks are linked to how riled up they can get the public over the forecast?? Maybe they are working on a commission. When the weather ratings go up so does the pay check. The more hype, the more viewers, the more money they are payed. Well if that is the case, forecasters must not get paid at all during the summer around here, unless you can hype up the public about 90 degree days. In Texas 90 degrees is winter.

Television weather reporting has become a show in itself. It was at one time a footnote in the middle or at the end of the newscast. Now you see the "meteorologist" 3 or 4 times in that 30 minute time slot. How much weather can one local area have? They do nothing but get the public anxious about the next few days.

Have you seen the news when a storm approaches? Some assignment editor sends out some lowly reporter to the local hardware store to watch people buying shovels. Always you will hear a store clerk say, "we are sold out of shovels, snowblowers, and generators." This happens as a prelude to each and every storm. Television news is very predictable.

Why do we need to know that all the shovels are sold out for EVERY storm? One would think that we the public would have figured this out by now. When a storm approaches, there will be NO shovels to be had, therefore purchase your snow shovels in July.

With all those shovels going out the door at EVERY storm it makes me wonder. Where do all those shovels go? One would think that by now every man, woman, and child on the planet would own a shovel. I myself own three snow shovels. That's two more that I can handle at any given time. I laugh at all those people going to Home Depot at the last minute only to find out that the last snow shovel was sold 2 minutes ago. I sit at home comfy knowing I have three shovels ready to clear those HUGE drifts the "meteorologists" are predicting.

Meteorologists are becoming the next "fortune tellers" at the local carnival. Perhaps they should all wear a turban sit cross legged, and go into a trance. Now thats a weather segment! And remember "meteorologists," leave the tsunami prediction to an "oceanographer." That's easy to remember. Meteor=sky, ocean=water. lol

PS: If someone out there is hording snow shovels to sell at a higher price, can you let me in on some of that action? I have a freezer full of ice cream to sell next summer. :)

Remember when gas was 4.25 per gallon last summer? 2.00 per gallon right now doesn't seem so bad now does it? If you agree, guess what, you are a victim of corporate oil's plan to manipulate your mind.

Mark my words, we will see those prices again! Corporate Oil will find something to blame to raise their prices.

Gas companies are going to screw us again this summer. They are slowing adding pennies per day to gas prices. Let's see where they take us this summer.

Late December gas prices were at their lowest in years. At a local Hess station the price per gallon was $1.539. My prediction is that gas will rise about $0.75 per gallon per month through Memorial Day weekend. This should place gas prices around $4.50 per gallon. Get ready to be screwed by big oil! I will keep a close eye on the Hess station board and post my observations in the side bar ---------------->

This guy does not know what serious news is. All his work is nothing but bozo reports. At the moment he is talking about "breaking up with Tom Brady." Among his other Pulitzer Prize winning stories are about a virus that makes people fat, and public breastfeeding. Wow Armstrong, soon you will be taking the anchor desk at one of the major networks.

You seem to have a love hate relationship with Tom Brady. Are you attacked to him? Are you coming out of the closet? There is nothing wrong with that, to quote a Seinfeld episode. Why don't you just come out and say it Jim. You asked Tom to be honest with us, now it's your turn to be honest with us. Just say those words Jim, "I'm gay!" Believe me you will feel so much better.

By the way Jim, this report of yours on such a trivial topic put you in an exclusive club at Fox25. It's called the Dufus Department. You have joined the likes of Gene Lavanchy and Doug VB Goudie. Please don't drag Fox25 down even further than it already is. Try some serious news reporting man, its not going to hurt. Doug Meehan can give you some lessons I'm sure. He's a good example of a hard hitting newsman, and only serious male member of the morning team. After all Jim, you are a Harvard grad, act like it man!

Herald Desperation!

A sign of the times? A newspaper's demise? Today's Boston Herald's front page story is about Tom Brady and Gisele Bendchen on vacation in the Caribbean. A full page photo shows him and Gisele, his fiance, sunning themselves and handing hands under the headline, "What Superbowl?"

Geesh you guys, leave them alone! Tom Brady and Gisele Bendchen has as much right to be on vacation as anyone. Brady didn't make it to the Superbowl, he wasn't even part of this year's Patriots team. If I had his money and time like that I would be in the Caribbean as well and so would everyone else in this state after this winter's snow. THIS IS NOT NEWS! GET IT?

This is front page news on a day when the Massachusetts Speaker of the House is resigning amid questionable practices. (The 3rd speaker in a row to resign in shame by the way.) There is much more quality content out there to report than seeing two greasy people laying on a beach.

This is an example of how desperate the Herald is for money. They must be on their last legs down there on Herald Way. Soon Boston will be a one newspaper town. It proves that tabloid style of news just doesn't cut it when it comes to the average person's need to be well informed about the current events of the day.

I'll be the first to say it, goodbye Boston Herald!

BREAKING NEWS: Peabody Police Seen Laughing All the Way to the Bank

Once upon a time there in a land called Peabody, in the commonwealth of Massachusetts, the police department wanted more money for their protection services. The union contract was up for renegotiation. The police wanted another payed holiday off to bring the number of holidays up to 15. They chose to have September 11th off. That fateful day that thousands of innocent Americans lost their lives to terrorists...

The union president said that the officers wanted to have a way to honor their fallen union brethren. What? Receiving extra pay is a way to honor the death of thousands of patriots? This was a new concept to the citizens of the village.

The people of the tiny hamlet were outraged. They spoke out against this atrocity. All throughout the land the same message was repeated over and over again by the local town crier,

"Holiday pay for 9/11? Are you kidding me? 9/11 isn't even a national nor state holiday. WWII era workers and vets are not asking for a paid holiday for the December 7th attack on Pearl Harbor. School teachers are not asking for extra pay for April 20th. Why should the police department be entitled to holiday pay for September 11th?"

But alas! The efforts of the fine citizens of the tiny hamlet fell upon deaf ears. The city fathers voted to support the contract with the police department. The burden of paying for this was borne by the fine citizens. The downtrodden were forced to pay more for their protection services so the officers could have fun on a day when America was attacked.

All the police were last seen laughing all the way to the bank... A sad day for America as a dark cloud of shame lowered upon the land.

It was a touching sight to see someone who had overcome many difficulties in his life to receive an honor to try out at the next level of American Idol. Ryan Seacrest in his excitement tried to high five this man, the final contestant of the night. Of course the man couldn't see this and he didn't respond.

The man is blind Ryan, we thought you knew that. He carries a white cane. Get with the program. Sometimes I think Seacrest is mentally blind. Perhaps the blond hair is part of his problem.
