Business Name: East East Tea Arts

Type of Business: I currently offer two culinary tea experiences:

My gong fu tea tasting sessions are offered by reservation only and limited to groups of six or fewer people. I demonstrate the gongful style of preparing and serving tea, while providing historical background about tea and its processing. A tasting session includes eight different teas, two within each of the four major categories of tea (white, green, oolong, red). The tea samples are selected to give a comparative overview not only between the different types of tea, but of the variation of flavor within a single category, as well. Typical Asian tea snacks are served along with the tea and participants may choose to purchase a small gong fu serving set to take home with them. The tea tasting sessions are open to the general public, but take place at my B&B, Harbour Lights Guest House, located in North Lake, PEI.

I also offer a special culinary tea dinner package for overnight guests to my B&B. My husband and I have developed a series of three-to four-course dinners that highlight terroir teas as a flavouring ingredient in several of the meal courses. We also provide suggestions for tea pairings to accompany the dinner.

Year Founded: 2008

Location: 6434 Northside Rd., North Lake, PE. Please note: Our mailing address is different from our physical location. Mailing address is: 6434 Northside Rd., RR 2, Elmira, PE C0A 1K0, Canada.

Phone: (902) 357-2127 or (866) 687-9949 [toll-free]

Website: www.east-east.ca

What is Unique About Your Business?: The focus of my business is on the culinary and meditative uses of tea, and I hope to encourage connoisseurship in terroir teas.

What Are Your Best-Selling Teas?: Phoenix Jasmine Pearl Tea, Wenshan Baozhong, and Gyokuro .

Do You Carry Organic Teas?: We carry some teas that are certified organic, as well as others that are organic but not certified.

Do You Carry Fair-Trade Teas?: Again, some are, but not all. Most of the teas I carry come from small cooperative farms.

Where Are Your Teas Grown?: Mainland China, Taiwan, and Japan.

Why Do Your Loyal Customers Keep Coming Back?: East East Tea Arts offer high quality, single estate, terroir teas and provides an unusual cultural experience in a beautiful, rural setting.

Where Can Your Teas be Purchased?: I am not a tea retailer. I provide a tea drinking and tea culinary experience in a unique setting.

Is There Anything Else You’d Like to Tell Us About Your Business or Teas?: In the late 1990s and early 2000, I spent time living and working in China. A close Chinese friend and colleague, who happened to be a tea master, introduced me to the amazing world of tea. She took me to visit small tea cooperatives and brought me with her on buying trips to the Beijing tea market that boasts hundreds of tea dealers and tea accoutrements retailers. My love of tea and the experience of gong fu style tea developed out of those encounters.
