Nujabes in his studio

As I've been listening very much to his tunes lately I thought about sharing his music with you: Jun Seba aka Nujabes had been one of the very great hip hop producers and DJs in his lifetime.

If you want to know more details about him just look on Wikipedia.. What made him special, for me at least, was his very unique style of music, since he used jazz elements in his hip hop tunes. The result of this mix sounds fantastic! Some of you may know him from the anime Samurai Champloo, because he was the one to make the opening song and the background music in the whole series.

Samurai Champloo

Unfortunately though he died on 26/02/10 in a traffic accident in Japan. Having been only 36 years old he died at a young age, but what he left behind in that short period of time is brilliant! Please take your time and listen to some of his tunes:

Have fun listening!

Getting your notes back!

2011-06-14T14:02:00.001+02:00

Yesterday's been quite stressful for me as my computer didn't boot. So I was forced to reinstall my Windows which would've been very easy, if it hadn't been for all my important files and my notes (you know those Windows 7 Sticky Notes). As a result I first created a bootable USB-Stick with Gparted on it to get some GBs off of the Windows 7 partition to create another Windows 7 partition to install it again. For a short period of time I effectively had two Windows installations where one was fresh and working and the other not. From the new one I imported all files to my external HDD. So far so good, but wasn't there something missing? What about my sticky notes? Good thing there's always an answer on the internet and I thought I'd share it with you:

The content of the notes is usually saved in a little file deep inside of your HDD
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes
In this directory a file named StickyNotes.snt is waiting.
Just copy it as a backup and paste it into your new folder.

Well a complete crash doesn't usually happen often, but you could for for example, by accident, delete your note. What then? If got the backup point option in Windows 7 on, just load such a backup and right-click on the file -> properties -> restore previous version. I hope this information helps somebody someday as it did for me..

Curious Advertising

2011-06-12T17:08:00.002+02:00

I was visiting Toxel after a long time and found an interesting entry about creative advertising and wanted to share some of those ads with you:

Kagatani Knife Elevator

I mean who wouldn't buy such a cool knife?

Hot Wheels

A really great idea in my opinion!

FedEx

I really did laugh out loud on that one..good that there are still so many creative minds in this world!

Oldtime Restaurants

The idea is not really new, but still gets me every time. I'd so like to drive through such a tunnel..

Nike

Fantastic, just fantastic! Now that's some advertising budget spent well! Much better than some dumb posters.

Well guys sorry for such a short entry, but I'm really busy at the moment.

E3 - Essentials in brief

2011-06-09T17:51:00.001+02:00

With Nintendo having presented at last, for me at least, E3 is done for this year. Here's what I think about it:

Microsoft:

To be honest Microsft didn't appeal to me at all. Their focus was just not in my interests. Of course the market for casual games has been booming, but I am definitely not a casual gamer. Nevertheless it was still enviable how efficiently Kinect works now, but I still think it will become boring after a few tries. There is also the fact that I've never really been a Microsoft fan to begin with..For all those Halo fans out there: Have fun with a remastered version and a new trilogy!

Sony:

So the NGP is now called PS Vita. Interesting, but nothing special. Even so I'm still excited for it and it may be my first proper handheld after quite much time. I'm not really into the "just remaster old games instead making new ones", but I'm playing with the thought of buying the Ico/Shadow of Colossus Collection coming in september, as they're two great games one should not miss out! The Highlight for me here was definitely Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (see my previous post). At last they showed some Move games and that was it.

Nintendo:

In spite of being a big Sony fan, I was really tense about the Wii's successor and they sure took their time until they finally announced it: The Wii U! At first I thought that it was just a new updated Wii controller, but gradually I understood that it was indeed coming with a new console. The concept looks promising and Nintendo finally gets into HD gaming.(At least the tech demo looked like it). Also it seems Nintendo wants to gain some third party developers back, since many new games like Arkham City or Assassin's Creed are going to be released on it. It's really a nice compromise between casual and hardcore and it's giving Nintendo much more perspectives in my opinion. Only negative thing is the form of the new controller, because I'm still a bit sceptical about playing with a iPad sized controller, but we'll see how it turns out..

So all in all you can say the E3 was a success in terms of games, but there weren't much new concepts, despite Nintendo. Regardless the games were mostly really promising and I'm really looking forward to many of them!

Here are some more games I'm looking forward to:

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Batman: Arkham City

Dark Souls

DmC

and many more!

Yours sincerely

E3 - First Day

2011-06-07T15:54:00.001+02:00

I've been watching everything on livestream yesterday and they did it again! Man excitement is getting the better of me now. Unfortunately only Sony and Microsoft presented out of the big three,so I'll wait for Nintendo and write a longer entry tomorrow.
Still here are some games I'm totally excited about:

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

Uncharted 1 and 2 are definitely my favourite games on the PS3 right now and after having seen that trailer, I don't think it'll be changing anytime soon. I'm really excited about the old cast returning in a brand new adventure! Also the Uncharted series has been the only one to fully use the PS3's graphical potential.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations

Look at that badass motherfucker Ezio. This video clearly shows what Ezio is made of, as not even age can defeat him. I really like where this game is heading by making a connection to the first game's hero Altair. At first I was hoping for a completely new Assassin's Creed, but I'm in no way dissapointed with what they've given us instead. Oh yeah for those interested: the song is 'Iron' by Woodkid (Youtube)

Other games I'm waiting for are: Skyrim, Arkham City and some others, but first I'll wait what Nintendo's got to show.

New Computer!!...the plan at least.

2011-06-05T14:28:00.003+02:00

As my computer is over 5 years old already, you can probably guess how slow it has become. Also not being able to play any decent game annoys me even more. So after having saved up money I decided to buy a completely new selfmade system! I'll probably buy it at the end of this month (with photos and blog entrys!) or a bit later. What I want to achieve with this post are tips to make it better. So here we go:

My budget for the computer is about 1000€ [better would be 900€ :(]

Processor: Intel Core i5 2500K
Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-V
RAM: 8GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1333 CL9
Cooler: Scythe Mugen REV B
Case: Fractal Design Define R3, Black Pearl
Graphic: Gigabyte GTX 560 Ti SOC
PSU: 550W Antec Truepower New
SSD: 128GB Crucial C300 Series
HDD: 2TB Samsung Ecogreen F4
Extra: Cheap Card Reader

So far I'm at 1000€.. I know the price could be reduced vastly by just leaving out the SSD, but they are soo godly! I'm pretty sure many of you here have a much better understanding of this, than me, so please go ahead and tell me what to do differently. Maybe arguments against an SSD, or a completely different approach on the matter? Who knows..

Welcome

2011-06-04T14:07:00.001+02:00

Hello and welcome to my newly acclaimed blog!

I am a German writer who enjoys to improve his english skills, while writing about his interests.
You'll gradually begin to find a mass of random, but interesting information on this site, ranging from hightech news to movies and even anime! Of course there can be much more, so don't see the named things as limit.
Also for all the native english speakers: If there's anything totally wrong in my entry (I know there'll be far too many commas), I highly encourage you to point that out. Oh by the way, sometimes there even could be a German entry...

Yours sincerely,
Noctis
