Court Leaves Rules in Place that Protect Tongass Rainforest Wildlands from Damaging Logging, Road Construction

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Supreme Court today declined to hear a last-ditch effort&nbsp;by the State of Alaska to exempt America’s largest national forest from a national rule protecting undeveloped, road-free national forest areas from logging and road&nbsp;construction. The State sought to overturn a Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that&nbsp;kept the Roadless Area Conservation Rule in effect in the vast Tongass National Forest in&nbsp;Southeast Alaska. The Ninth Circuit agreed with a federal District Court in Alaska that&nbsp;the Bush administration improperly exempted the Tongass from that landmark&nbsp;conservation measure.<div class="feedflare">

Groups Ask Federal Court to Order Home Water Delivery in Flint, As Tap Water Remains Unsafe

CHICAGO, IL &nbsp;(March 24, 2015) – Flint residents, an organization of pastors, and national advocacy groups are asking a federal court to order home water delivery for every household in the Michigan city served by Flint’s water system. Flint’s tap water remains unsafe and is likely to remain undrinkable for months due to persistent lead contamination. The groups are asking the court to direct the delivery of bottled water to people’s homes, as many Flint residents cannot obtain water for their daily needs due to transportation or other access issues.<div class="feedflare">

NRDC Petitions EPA to Stop Letting Industry Dump Chemicals, Waste in Potential Drinking Water Sources

WASHINGTON (March 23, 2016) – The Environmental Protection Agency should stop allowing the oil, gas and nuclear industries to intentionally contaminate underground water sources with hazardous chemicals and waste, according to a petition filed today by the Natural Resources Defense Council. The dumping allowed under current EPA policy has already destroyed thousands of potential drinking water supplies nationwide, primarily in areas experiencing moderate or severe water stress.<div class="feedflare">
