I recently have seen many people sharing pic of an angry bird which the pic claims that it is real.. The shocking part was that everyone had shared the same pic.. So I did my own research and found out that they are genuine paintings made by Mohamed Raoof from India (just paintings..!!!) .... Here are all 7 paintings by him..

Rumor: Contact lens melt on the eye

I just saw many people posting that contact lens melt with the eye and cause people to go blind.
Here is the exact article :
"A 21 year old guy had worn a pair of contact lenses during a barbecue party.(An event or meal at which food is cooked outdoors over an open grill or fire)
While barbecuing he stared at the fire charcoals continuously for 2-3 minutes.
After a few minutes, he started to scream for help and moved rapidly, jumping up and down.
No one in the party knew why he was doing this?

Then he admitted into the Hospital, the doctor said he'll be blind permanently because of the contact lenses that he had worn.
Contact lenses are made by plastics, and the heat from the charcoal melted
his contact lenses."

The Analysis:

Here are some facts from my experience and you will find them true if you google also..

Firstly, I wear contact lenses on a regular basis.. I can safely say that this is false and a rumor..
and I have even barbequed many times wearing contact lens.. The only thing which will makes you jump up and down is when any small splinter (dust) blows into your eyes and causes irritation..
However, the fact that prolonged wear of contact lens does make the removal of contact a bit tough (not impossible), but just putting a few drops of lubricating drops solves this also..!!

Another point that before the contact lens melts they get dehydrated and turn into brittle glass which in no case can remain in the eye. (around 82% of contact lens is water) . They are disinfected near 121 degrees Celsius (http://www.contamac.com/Products/Silicone-Hydrogel/) at even when disinfecting them, they are kept in an aqueous medium to prevent them from dehydrating..

The bottom line is, before the contact lenses melt on your eyes, your face’s skin might have burnt out.

Finally, Contact lens are made from SILICA (silicone hydrogels)...!!! NOT Plastics..!!! (silicone hydrogels to be precise)

Review : BSNL 3G data card

On 3rd February I had come to Pune for GE/PI of SCMHRD and SIBM Bangaluru, as I needed internet on the go my dad got BSNL 3G data card. I was really shocked and surprised at the speed.. And as they say a picture is worth a thousand words here are two of the many tests I performed..

And this is still not the full story.. To really test the stability I started updating my laptop while surfing.. Here are the results

I know people will me judgmental.. That is why I have uploaded the pictures rather than bragging about the speed.. Now you be the judge..

EDIT:

I forgot to write.. That nearly all wireless providers give support only for Windows, but BSNL 3G data card has support for Linux (only debian at moment) as well as Mac also..!!!

When Greek philosopher Pythagoras reached Egypt to enter a school -- a secret esoteric school of mysticism -- he was refused entry. And Pythagoras was one of the best minds ever produced. He could not understand it. He applied again and again, but was told that unless he goes through a particular training of fasting and breathing he cannot be allowed entry.

There was no other way, so Pythagoras had to pass through this training. After 40 days of fasting and breathing, aware and attentive, he was allowed to enter the school. Pythagoras reportedly said: "You are not allowing Pythagoras in. I am a different man; I am reborn. You were right and I was wrong, because then, my whole standpoint was intellectual. Through this purification, my centre of being has changed.

From the intellect it has come down to the heart. Now I can feel things. Before this training I could only understand through the intellect, through the head. Now I can feel. Now truth is not a concept to me, but life. It is not going to be a philosophy, but rather, an experience -- existential."

What was that training he went through? The technique was as follows: Attention between eyebrows, let mind is before thought. Let form fill with breath essence to the top of the head and there, shower as light.

Pythagoras went with this technique to Greece, and really, he became the fountainhead, the source of all mysticism in the West. This technique is among the deep methods. Try to understand it.

Modern physiology says that between the two eyebrows is the gland that is the most mysterious part of the body. This gland, called the pineal gland, is the third eye to Tibetans. It is the Shivnetra, the eye of the Shiva, of tantra. Between the two eyes there exists a third eye, but it is non-functioning. You have to do something to open it. Otherwise, it remains closed.

Close your eyes and focus both eyes on space in the middle of your eyebrows. Give total attention to it. This is one of the simplest methods of being attentive. You cannot be attentive to any other part of the body so easily. This gland absorbs attention like anything. If you give attention to it, both your eyes become hypnotised with the third eye. They become fixed; they cannot move. The third eye forces attention. It is magnetic. Your attention is brought to it forcibly. It is absorbed.

It is said in ancient tantra scriptures that for the third eye, attention is food. And once you feel that the gland itself is magnetically pulling your attention, it is not so difficult. For the first time you will see thoughts running before you. You will become the witness. It is just like a film screen: thoughts are running and you are a witness.

BITLUG.in Dead

While I was in BIT, I with applegrew's idea and help of two amazing people Debjit Saha and Himanshu Ojha started BIT LUG (read about it in BIT gets lug)..
Last year when I left BIT, I kept in touch and people wanted to start a website since it was difficult to get finance, sponsorship etc. So, while buying ntweat.com, I also got BITLUG.in and gave them full freedom over the domain. Even once when they wanted to change the name server I was in delhi without any internet etc. Still I found a way to change it so they could host easily. But after an year of getting the domain nothing was up on the site except for a default wordpress page..
For months I kept calling and emailing them telling them to put something up, but instead they kept giving lame excuses like they had exams etc.. (mind you their own website got updated regularly but for them to take out one day for BITLUG.in was toooooo much).
Anyways, a month back I sent out a warning email saying that I would no longer support the domain if there is no progress. Still there was no response..
So, with a heavy heart on 22 december I terminated the domain and on 24 december the person incharge of BIT LUG (without emailing me) make a blog that the domain going down is not his fault as he is low on man power.!! (does making a website require an year..??)
Anyways, what is done is done.. It was a sad loss..
But anyone one genuinely interested n making a BIT LUG website do contact me..
I will give you a webspace to make a website and then get the domain back to it..

Nokia N900 : Disabling Touch feedback

This was one of the toughest things to do..

1. you would need to gain root access as described in the post before..

2. Install "GNU nano" from the application menu.

3. Follow this..

Nokia-N900:~# sudo gainroot

Nokia-N900:~# nano /etc/mce/mce.ini

You will get this

At the end You will notice these lines

Change the red line to

PatternTouchscreen=10;2;0;1;1;1;1;1;255

Save and Reboot

The Numbers are crucial. These numbers can make your vibration to infinity also so chose proper numbers.

The numbers provided disable screen touch vibration and also locking and unlocking vibrations. Rest is normal.

There is another and easy way to disable the touch..

Nokia N900 : Getting Root

I got my N900 and wanted to do something.. after a alot of surfing I found ways and this is just to make it easy for everyone else..

First stop... Getting root access..
Remember that "sudo" password does not work so you will have to break it.. here is how in simple steps

There are different methods for Root Access, but this one is simplest.

First of all you need to enable the “Extras”. You can do it by simply opening this link on your maemo device. You can do it manually as well:
1. Go into the Application manager.
2. Tap the menu -> Tools -> Application catalog…
3. Double-tap maemo Extras.
4. Uncheck Disabled.
Now install this Rootsh on your device.
Open xTerminals on your device and run this command sudo gainroot
Now you are able to access the root of your device.

Nokia "Nothing is in Warrenty"

I have a Nokia N97 facing too many trobles even with customer care..
I have started mailing them and will update this space..

This is a message regaring my experience with nokia customer care.. dealing with my N97

I had got my N97 las year and from the begining it was giving some problem. Initally Nokia care were very supportive.

In April my unlocking key came off all on its own noia care said "sir, his is an accessary and is not covered in warrenty". I love my N97. I said OK. and paid them around Rs2000 for the replacement and additional for extending my warrenty.

That was in bhopal.

Recently, I had to come to delhi for two months. and my cell was giving problem in charging and the Menu key was not working/. Mainly due to the charging problem I went to the Nokia care in Hudson lane at delhi.

Out there I found out that the customer care at Bhopal had not extended my warrenty. Anyways my cell was still in warrenty by one day. SO they took my cell. After half an hour of waiting they called me in and showed me tiny white dot even not worth mentioning. According to them liquid had entered which spoiled my Menu key. (Myself being a geek am very careful.) SO they said warrenty was void. I took back my cell being frustrated. Being an engineer in electronics and communication I am fully aware of the fact that any electronics that gets spoiled will show some signs either a whitness or burning. So according to Nokia "Nothing is in warrenty??" because either there will be "something cosmetic" or "something black (burned)" or "something white (liquid)" which is NOT covered under warrenty.

Being a Nokia fan I am beining to think that being faithful to Nokia may be my biggest mistake..

Global Warming : A Different Opinion

Firstly, a line which i loved a lot :

And the facts which defy the common thinking of people are called "Conspiracy Theory"

There are huge number of conspiracy theories...

This is my view and a different opinion about the Global Warming...

Ever wondered that only the developed countries keep shouting global warming and the effects of it..?? and at the same time they import huge amounts of fuel from the less developed countries..!! Countries like USA, UK etc who shout the most consume the most amount of fossil fuels.. There are a few common sense reasons for this:

1. There is a very limited amount of fossil fuel on this planet, and this fossil fuel is the backbone of our development today.. The developed countries realize this and put pressure on the less developed countries not to use the fuel while they burn it to glory.. This is the same as the rich are getting and the poor are getting poorer..

2. It is a well known fact that the amount of carbon dioxide and other harmful gases which are so "harmful" are dumped in the atmosphere by natural activities like volcanic eruptions, marsh gases etc in a single event are much more in volume than the amount dumped by human activities even in the most polluted cities in the world in the whole year!!!

It may come to your head that "Why is the temperature increasing??"

Well, lets take a flash back in history....

What was the cause??

The answer is simple... The SUN

The Sun as all creations grows and evolves.. there are changes in all creations..
Over time the Sun goes through many changes.. and in these changes the amount of heat being produced also changes (nothing is perfect in the universe that will operate at the optimum exact value)

So the temperature of the Sun keeps varying and the Earth being pretty close to the Sun feels this change..

Now, someone may ask where is the proof...

1. The planet having a couple of ice ages already in the past when there was no human activities to effect the the weather...
If global warming was due to human activities the planet should have always been in the ice age and never recovered

2. Water has memory when it come to temperature...
That is it takes time for water to heat and cool and due to this the temperatures of the years gone by can easily be analyzed by the temperature at certain depths (i dont knw this technically)

3. The planet faced one of its coldest era when the industrial revolution was is at its peak.. that is there was no refining no control on pollution if global warming was true then that should have been the hottest year

4. According to NASA the temperatures of all the planets in the solar system has increased by atleast 3 degrees.. Well even earth is a part of it... so we had to feel it....

Well the bottom line is that we should stop creating a hue and cry about global warming .. and if are really worried about the survival of the human race we should find ways to high tail it out of here before the planet heats too much for our survival...

Apache2 : Blocking access to a range of IPs

A few days back we had a problem that someone in a particular hostel was flooding the mysql through our website.
Now the problems were

1. We had to block the entire range of IP for that those places. (as the person was able to change his/ her IP and flood again)

2. We could not stop them from accessing apache2 completely as the server also hosts the local linux repos fror the network so by blocking access to port 80 the repos would also be blocked for that range.

3. A few IP in the blocked range had to be allowed as the IPs were of known people and who needed the access.

Now we followed a step by step approach to this..

1. For blocking the entire range we had to block the ips as well as the subnet as follows..

Being a fan of Harry Potter and since I have recently started watching Smallville like a mad person...

This thing has intrigued me.... well... its as u see Superheros' crushes and the story behind them..... they are:

1. Lara Lang of Smallville (Superman)

2. Cho Chang of Harry Potter

Well if anyone has an eye they will notice what I have.... that NOT just their names sound similar but alot of stuff in the two stories is similar or you can say same..... so here we go....

1. Both our superheroes initially get nervous around their crushes....

2. Well this is my favorite... well...... notice that in both cases our hero loves the girl but unfortunately our dream girl already has someone she is crazy about..... and then here is the twist both their dream guys go to battle and die in the battle (fight)...

3. When they competition dies they get close initially .... and after that they blow it...

4. Well they look very similar... he he he.....

But as far as i have seen our heroes romantic life is hell like similar........ they are so identical it seems like the same person has written them....

BIT finally gets a LUG

Yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiippppppppppppppeeeeeeeee............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BIT LUG finally becomes a reality...... All thanks to Prof. Abhijeet Mustafi... That come this Saturday i.e the 30th of august 2008 BIT LUG will finally will have its first interactive session......

The Time Line :

Initial start :

It all started started when my friend "applegrew" made me switch to Linux (Kubutnu) I had to ask him everything initially.... we are now like core Linux users.. so we started the support for Linux by setting up a local repository for Debian based Linux (mainly.. Ubuntu, Kubuntu, edubutnu, Linux mint... etc).. He used to praise Kubuntu so much that a few of our friends had kept his name only Kubuntu.. Well I learned alot from him and still I do although now he has left the college and gone for job....

The realization :

Initially only I and applegrew used to discuss about a LUG, but when he left i realised that now more and more students of BIT want to switch to Linux but as i had him to fall back upon not many people had a reliable source to fall back upon and many installed Linux and removed it as they had no clue what was going on and others did not know how to install it only... a defeat for Linux and open source??? a victory for windows???... NO!!! had to support Linux and help other free from Windows as i had.... I helped a few people initially but the load increased... I took this up with Prof. Abhijeet Mustafi he immediately agreed to help!!! But due to on going registrations, counselling and network restructuring the LUG was put on hold but not for long...

The Preparation:

We need a rough estimate for the number of students who were interested in Linux.... having a rough guess.. we thought it would be maximum 60... we launched a site for the same purpose... and well.... in just 3 days we got a overwhelming response with over 127 registrations!!!! Looking at the increasing the registrations had to be closed on the 3rd day...!!!!

To create the LUG like nothing else in BIT we had to think outside the box.... the 1st step was to create a very catchy logo for the LUG... I sat down with a junior DKD903 at 3 am on 28th and created the logo which you see at the top.... The logo was liked so much by all that it was decided to distribute stickers of the logo like that which we get with Ubuntu...

Initially on 25th it was decided to distribute Linux mint 5 to n00bs on the launch but then again thinking outside the we decided to change the distro to suite the needs of students in BIT like it would have the logo of BIT LUG into the coeee and would have Linuxdcpp (DC++), the life line of all BITian pre installed with a few other software like amarok etc and fully updated.. well this did not fully go as planned... We were successfull in creating the image but the size was 724 MB while the CDs are only 700 MB we tried overburn but it wont boot.... so back to the drawing board... and hope we can get a distro ready by tonight (29th August 2008)...

Future plans:

Well.. in BIT its not possible to look at the future but here is what we have thought of doing.... 1stly create a new distro either Ubuntu or Kubuntu based... 2ndly Get ID card made (valid for lifetime) just like the new ID cards BIt is giving... 3rdly Get agood guest lecture done out here...

As I have only time tillcoming May I should not be planning more into the future....

Agile messenger SOFTWARE BASED

I have used Agile messenger again back in 2005 i loved it it has everythinh meant for chatting vedio voice image sharing it wonderful but due to high usage of their service Agile messenger has become paid a sad thing..

eBuddy SOFTWARE and WEB BASED

Presently I am using this for messaging on Gtalk , Yahoo, MSN and it also has AIM
not as good as Agile but free... easy interface sound on message recieved... not extra stuff like video or image or voice etc..

I just formatted my laptop and was downloading stuff... while downloading Java SDK 5.05, I noticed in the left corner stating that Sun microsystems has acquired Mysql... It was a little surprised since i use Java and Mysql alot and had not heard of this well the news.. Anyways it was a pleasant surprise as now Mysql will become more powerful...
