In most cases, some form of
preparation is necessary to succeeded when it comes to any sort of effort or
venture. That is why it is important to consider taking a look at the expertise
needed to successfully negotiate your desired outcome. Although realistically
opportunities very vastly, it is unlikely a subject matter expert does not
stand a better chance of succeeding than one without expertise. Connections
play a great factor in a scenario, just the same. An article at CNN.com
shows us that conglomerate success is a rare occurrence without subject matter
expert training.

            Today, in
most cases a college degree seems to be the standard in most prerequisite
expectations. These expectations have become standards, due to their results in
productivity. Although this productivity has become extremely favored by
employers, to the employee it has become known as an opportunity expense. It is
important to look at your debt versus your opportunity expense to discern the
difference between the most logical choices. It is also important to check the
outcome of particular career choice as well as your chances of success at it.
It is common knowledge that the overall financial benefits of an employee was a
college degree or two, stands to gain a larger profit in the and through their
annual income. Other jobs dealing with extreme product values also produce
extreme revenues to employees of the duration of the required education is not
as long in duration.

            Being a
college graduate tells a future lawyer that a candidate can complete intricate
task interaction and has a detailed understanding of a variety of tasks.
Although not every occupation is lenient on the various degrees deemed expectable
as eligible for employment opportunities, not every employer requires an exact
description of their candidate’s prerequisites. Now having the confidence of a
college graduate is a motivating feeling. What do you think?

Preparation is key when it comes to the development of a business plan. Beyond professional development assistance, it is important to ensure all aspects of your business plan are well conceived and all angles are covered. Nondisclosure agreements, waivers, intellectual property concerns are other factors to consider, but in the end a proprietor must still have financial competency to get his or her business off the ground. With that comes a number of factors, a proprietor must think about as well. It is important to note that revenues generated through sales and so on are not just up for the taking. Shareholders, stakeholders, and lenders take presidents over a company's chance of future growth. It is common business practice to ensure that these establishments and personnel receive a return that satisfies the confidence instilled into your company through financial support.
Luckily, there are a number of establishments that will also assist with the financial support of small businesses or new establishments that may not have an equal opportunity to acquire the necessary funds to begin their venture. At eda.gov we find that it is there mission to assist with the development and promotion of innovation and competitiveness that increases growth and the success of the economy worldwide. Establishments like these are healthy for economy because they increase the overall job opportunities, which in turn creates growth throughout the country. At opportunityfinance.net we also find multiple opportunities to attain financial support. This is done by choosing a community developed financial institution. This institution will support disadvantaged entrepreneurs with low income. The OFN has been supporting ventures since 2009. This is a good thing for establishments hoping that the OFN have yet to run out of money for them. Their mission is to continue this venture until 2025.It is my intent to investigate further opportunities that will allow our establishment to attain the same chance to grow. What do you think?

We have already found out that not
haven’t a plan means planning to fail. This is especially the case when it
comes to business plan development. In the world of business, planning to
succeed means considering a number of factors and professionals throughout your
industry. Factors may include a wide range of components that make up your
businesses operation. Examples of these factors are financial, competition,
market share, etc. Business Plan Consultants are a form of industry
professional dedicated to strengthening the development of a solid business
that can survive as a functioning unit. In turn, the professional industry
personnel are there to guide you in manipulating your businesses determining
factor.

Last entry indicated that a few of
these consultants and their views mentioned at bpexpertviews.blogspot.com were
concurrent and selected as the most logical, based on our company’s workflow,
corporate culture, and values. “Implement now, perfect as you go” (Blakeman,
2011). This concept and quote is by Chuck Blakeman, suggesting that you not
solidify your business plan. The other concept that suggests, “If you can't
summarize your business model in 10 slides, you don't know what the hell you
are doing” (Gieger, n.d.). Keeping it
simple is important, especially when it comes to explaining your business plan
to a potential investor form a different industry.

Both concepts allow for minimal
complexity and at the same time allow for a concise understanding of the
businesses objectives. These objectives remain subject to change, as a fluent
business plan would suggest. Manageability is a top priority when it comes to
people and logistics. It would defiantly be wise to consider incorporating these
methods into the executive summary portion of your business plan. This will
help ensure that your business plan stays current. This will also help save
time. With that is important to keep a broad perspective as well as an intricate
to design. What do you think?

Whenever you do something, you need to have a plan. In most
cases this is true, but when it comes to business, not having a plan can mean
not having a business. We all know that businesses are designed to make money.
Even if businesses do not see a gigantic return on startup, most proprietors
are content with seeing a steady return that can grow to be substantial in
their businesses lifecycle. Making money in an instant is one thing, but with
the ever-changing world of sales, it is important to know that a business must
be able to withstand typical challenges. These challenges can vary from having a
unique product, to litigation, to industry health, to financial, etc. For these
reasons and many more, it is imperative to consider these potential
opportunities and threats in the planning stages of a business.

            Luckily,
throughout the business world there are a variety of professional consultants
who have made a career out of writing and reviewing business plans. Information
and thoughts of a few of these professional can be found at bpexpertviews.blogspot.com.
There, views on business plan development are the topic of discussion and of the
many professionals there, two had views that I either agree with or have idea I
plan to incorporate into my business plans. “Implement now, perfect as you go”
(Blakeman, 2011). This saying is by Chuck Blakeman and summarizes his short
entry on business plan development. “If you can't summarize your business model
in 10 slides, you don't know what the hell you are doing” (Gieger, n.d.). This
saying is the second of the two I feel represents my view on business plan
development. Both views are simple and make sense.

            Although it
is likely that a major corporation will have extremely intricate details that
concoct their business plan, overall it is wise to be concise when presenting this
material in a timely fashion to recipients who lack the industrial jargon to
remain enthusiastic about her business plan. What do you think?

RSS Market Tech

Right now, it seems to be harder than ever to find new means
to communicate with your frequent customers. This is also a problem with new customers,
but customer retention is a level of market penetration that reveals contact
with your intended market. Fostering this relationship with customers in this
career field is imperative. Furthermore, we find the use of technology changes
the way we consume entertainment. These advancements in technology have also
come with a highly valued form of escapism. Portability and technical
convenience have made smart phones and mobile devices today's targeted choice
of broadcast for brand awareness and customer retention. Among available
systems at our disposal designed to facilitate our consumption of important
information is a PLN. Although everyone does not have a personal learning
network designed for business alone, it is typical for anyone using a mobile
device to have some single point overall mobile media consumption. The typical
business with these technical capabilities will have a market that they have
considered to have an online presence. If a percentage of this market share as
an online presence, in most cases, it would be assumed that this persona
matches one that has a sense of reality. Throughout a 24-hour day it is
expected that personnel involved in the entertainment industry seeking any
production services would be interested in maintaining some type of reoccurring
acknowledgment of up-to-date information useful to the advancement of the consumer’s
interests.

            This
reality mentioned for each individual customer in a market is defined for
themselves. For this reason, RSS feeds can have a great affect on the perception
of the importance of a particular feed. The consumer chooses most content funneled
by these systems, which is the most important factor in retaining consistent
awareness along this line of trusted information. This trusted information is
communicated to clients through a more realistic format, broadcasted separately
from the channels of much desired escapism, on the same device. Beyond the
news, customers will use this feed to except trusted updated information about
this they partake in on a consistent basis. Becoming part of this genuine
channel changes the meaning and nature of the message’s intended role in a
clients reality. Along with the concept of branding, which indeed is a constant
in the marketing world, meaning more to a customer is an important niche
effort. In support of this same effort, staying connected digitally to choice
customers is an imperative struggle in the same direction. Today online you can
find services available that can help maximize your effort to communicate along
these sincere channels of communication to expecting clients. An example of
this is at Godatafeed.com.
In addition to this marketing technique we note that it is just as important
to interface with choice customers face to face. Although live video stream
feeds are not as common as data feeds, its’ getting easier to have these live
feeds received in a modular fashion similar to BlizzTV
(Farshad, 2011).

            These
two technological advancements allow focused material to feed directly to
choice clients devoted to an RSS style product awareness reception. The nature
of the products proposed on a consistent basis through these feeds will allow relevant
developments for opportunities to be reveal, rather than ads. It is my intent
to use these methods to communicate to my clients. Rather than just to sale
them something this channel will be focused on development of an artist career.
What would you suggest?

In the diagram above from bpwebdesign.com,
we see one of the many different models of marketing techniques using search engines. (PPC)
pay-per-click is an online option available that allows companies using digital
means to promote their product a way to only pay for search engine
advertisements as potential customers visit them. Charts like these are used to
show companies needing marketing the priority of events and maintenance needed
to conduct a successful marketing campaign for a website or an online product.
These styles of marketing have become a primary method for companies without
loss to spend in the marketing department.
This method in particular is one that I would use in my marketing
strategy regardless of whether or not I have the funds to market my products
any other way. This will serve not only
as marketing strategy, but one that can be used as a last resort in the event
business resource reach an all-time low. What do you think?

Digital Digit 0’s
Part 01000000

Ok, so we know from last entry that
there are several different means to get your beats out there… right? So now
that we have taken the time to discuss the need the methods, we now look at
exactly what they are and how each one could be the most beneficial to us given
our current state of the digital arts, and more likely methods of approach. We mentioned last entry that the main methods
of income for a producer, stand up to the test of time. These methods are: by hand sales, paid
marketing, beat brokering, placements, and publishing. This is the main idea in
general, so it would seem.

As a proprietor in a digital age,
the best options available to me at the click of a mouse include options like one
at iStandardproducer.com
that offer placements for beats. Sites like these guarantee some sort of avenue
producers can use to connect with artists or get television placements
(synchronization licensing royalties) etc. Beatplacements.com is another
site with similar services that offer brokering, publishing, and placements
through developed relationships with the pros. These websites stress the artist’s
need for production services. They limit submission to control the amount of
non-favorable works reviewed to save time and resources. It is important to be
careful with dealing with sites like these when there is no certainty of an
official business presence. Given the nature of the site's intent, it would be
unlikely to notice a trademark of the Better Business Bureau, however it is
still wise to check a website’s credibility. To maximize profit is always best to self
publish your beats. This will help you
cut costs that will cause you to have to inflate to meet the cost of your
marketing demands marketing demands. You
do not necessarily need to sell them by hand, but through the many forms of
online digital distribution mentioned. You should also consider any marketing
strategy that creates strong brand awareness. What do you think?

The world is a large place, but to
most of us trying to master our careers, the world has always seemed to get
smaller. The longer you do a profession the harder it is to get out of it.
Throughout your journey, you will find your self in a sea of familiar
associates seeking to become the most talked about, elite member of an industries
top organization. Although, we have yet to reach this status we never feel like
we’re far because we know the big game and the big names, right? In some cases
that may be so, but in this instance we find that there is no official title
for the programmer in the audio world. Although some would call the programmer
a beat producer, some would other wise say that a producer is a producer, just
like any other would rightfully proclaim to be. After all the priority is to get those digital
zeros after a few ones right?

            With this
being the goal of all things in a career path, we must look at all the avenues of
a particular jobs financial outlook. In this case it was mention earlier that
the audio world would suggest that the programmer is also known as a beat
maker. The value of media production is at an all time low. Not only have the
latest changes in technology had us reevaluate the value of production but also
the money spent on keeping it in circulation for retail. To this end, we find a
shortage of work for any non-founding member and a lack of hiring and spending
due to the economy.

With these stipulations revealed,
we have come to find that for audio engineers seeking to gain a profit from
their endless supply of weapons created in the lab of their production armory,
there has to be changes to what is considered the most lucrative approach to
marketing and promoting instrumental works. Seeing as how the game plan of the
survivors of a falling economy is to downsize, anyone capable of matching mainstream
quality control of a product can compete with other digital compositions. As
labels have decided to downsize just as most companies have, single units of immune
proprietors will remain. From the ashes, they will rise to the top of the
commercial quality mountain.

            Now, with
this in mind, we now look at the most realistic options commonly available in
this instance of our current state of technology. To the general public stands
a list of typical options that are used to get best possible income from
selling digital production. These methods are by hand sales, paid marketing,
beat brokering, placements, and publishing. Although there may be other methods
to build brand awareness, they are not as popular amongst the typical engineers
of today. A story posted at HipHopdx.com
has Drumma Boy talking about his methods of publishing and how it varies based
your skill level and the distance from your intended market (Paine, 2008).

Let’s make a deal!

It is important whenever building a
strong business plan that you seek the knowledge of an industry professional
with the experience pertinent to your path to success. Research plays a major
role in this as well. In this case we look at the legal aspects of the business
plan. Legal protection is a primary concern for any business that plans to
survive the sharks.

After having a chance to speak with
a few industry professionals in the legal side of the entertainment industry, I
felt a little more confident in my ability to determine the necessary legal
restraints and processes required to pursue and maintain a healthy business.
Once I had a chance to make contact with legal counsel members Aristdef Diaz
and Lashsan Thomas, I asked them a number of short questions to get the ball
rolling in the right direction.

I began by asking them a series of
questions about their career. I asked each of them their title and years of
experience. Together they held about 18 years. Lashsan seemed to have only
about three years of experience. The next topic of discussion was contracts. After
establishing the lines of communication both councilmembers had quickly
explained to me that there are no magical answers to contracts. Each one could
be different upon their review. They both explained that there was no main law
to abide by, just typical guidelines like we learned in Advanced Entertainment
Law. She also specified to me that “beat
contracts” are known as production contracts. Once I asked each one about the
stipulations concerning Beat Kompete, she turned up with few responses. Lashsan mentioned that I would need the
proper information to maintain user-generated data. Contracts would be a must,
also to include composition contract agreements, sampling contracts, and PRO protection.
The site itself will need a venue agreement for online services.

I thanked both of them for their
time. From that point, I felt I had a better understanding of the typical
stipulations involved with my future plans. So…For a beat battle site, what
other issues do you think will up rise?

Outrageous Dues!

Often we find that in today’s
society legal issues can come up pretty fast when it comes to intellectual
property. Laws and legal proceedings have been put in place over the years to
create a system that supposedly allows for fair consumption and regulation of
media. A few of these measures include the SPOA and the DMCA. Acts such as
these have caused a chain reaction throughout the industry. Although they were
designed to be helpful to copyright owners and publishing companies, these
major changes have altered the course of history. They do so by changing what today
would seem to be a typical means of online performances and creative recordings
into a targeted center to collect outrageous dues!

The first example is a case between
YouTube and SPPF. This
French music label collecting society sued YouTube for about $13.9 million.
The case mentions that YouTube is to take responsibility for the copyrighted
material that was infringed upon on the actual site. There also happens to be a
similar case online involving YouTube and a German collecting society as well.

LimeWire is another example of how quickly
things can get out of hand when it comes to recouping fees. There is a $150,000
dollar fine per song that is to be paid by those who are not in compliance with
the current legal legislation concerning media arts. According to the RIAA,
Supposedly, LimeWire owes them a whopping $72 trillion dollars in infringement damages.
The amount they demanded is unreasonable without a doubt. I know this is
another example of issues I will face. Found within an additional article at Businessinsider.com
we find that they ask for more than the actual wealth of the world!

The last example comes from a case
at news.findlaw.com.
It involves Webcaster Alliance Inc. They are the plaintiff in a case involving
the unlawful restraint of trade in the market. They are being sued by the RIAA,
Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Bertelsmann Music Group, Sony Music
Entertainment, Capitol-EMI music, etc. apparently they neglected to meet legislative
requirements to allow webcasting. The lack of compulsory licenses has also caused
them to be target due to streaming of copyrighted materials. This is a problem I
too could face based on the nature of my future business plans involving mass
libraries of audio.

My goal is to take provisions and
precautionary measures to ensure that I do not run into any issues throughout
the duration of my business ventures. All three of these cases are examples of
what I expect to face with my current site was well. Other site owners could
also challenge digital images in the event that the site wasn’t protected. It
is my intent to maintain a stream of the most updated legal info in my PLN!
What would you do?

SXSW Seminar
Today after class, we headed down
to the SXSW seminar. It was interesting to find out some information about the

overview but from what I understood, the representatives were conveying the need
for new staff to contribute to the organization without reserve. Here is just a

System Administrator, Huh?

world of digital interfacing, we start to notice extreme changes in the way
people consume mainstream media. Not only by using the standard devices in
today's entertainment market, but by use of other means such as the iPhone,
etc. Considering factors such as the growing need for bandwidths and network speed,
we also consider things like value, priority and convenience. All of these
things are functions of a prominent industry professional who’s part of a
healthy team.

before, since the decline
in music sales in 1999. Now that everyone seems to be a star these days, we are
less limited to the easily available sounds of the seeming proprietary image of
today’s artists. Communications technology has shorten the time and distance
between effective interfacing between people seeking vocal or visual interaction.
Because time is money, automation is become the primary need for lots of
businesses worldwide.

“The bottom line?” Based on the nature of this series of
blogs, I find that it is important to consider the vast difference in workload
given the right concoction of automated features converted and bottlenecked
into an interface. This is of course the difference between managing people
face-to-face versus managing an of-site system. With that same concept in mind,
we take note of other examples such as the one at www.lbddistribution.com. Websites
like this one allow people to manage artists off-site. This is a disadvantage
due to the lack of physical contact you will make with your manager. On the
other hand, the benefits greatly outweigh the downside in my perspective.
Having off-site management allows the manager to use their tools at hand
without carrying them constantly. This will allow them to maximize on niche
market style management, verses one or two high grossing artists. This gives
them access to better tools than just one's available by portable means.
Although the site is newly founded, they bring at least 10 years of experience
to independent artists.

            This
concept is one I will definitely consider adding to my current website!
Universal digital access to services I can provide professionally through virtual
teleconferencing will be an additional service I will provide. It is important
to also consider weather the new system has all parties involved receive a separate
interfacing platform. This goes for the artists, the target contact, myself, etc.
What type of ideas would you suggest to make a better online management system for
today’s industry?

Let’s Make a Deal!

In the event that you should ever have
to negotiate with an opposing party for any reason, it is important to remember
that there are guidelines that are typically followed. These guidelines vary from
time to time, but are mostly comprised of a unique system. This system is
designed to facilitate the negotiation process between two or more parties so
that both parties can achieve the maximum amount of the benefit as possible.
It’s not likely that both parties will always get everything that they want,
but at least in most cases they can try to be as fair as possible. Often times
we assume that it would be easy to simply write down what we need and maybe
expect to sacrifice a little of our autonomy from some form of responsibility
or obligation of some sort. In some cases this may be true, but in most negotiations
some form of objective criteria is used.

After taking a trip down to Miami,
FL to a few of the local recording studios, I had a chance to speak to a few of
the industry professionals that work and are affiliated with entertainment
groups such as Atlantic Records, Island Def Jam, and Sony BMG. I figure I would
interview these individuals to become more familiar with the business
environment. One of these pioneers I had visited had his own studio called Area 52 Recording Studios.
We talked about the local business environment. We also discussed the market
value of production and things of that matter. The studio manager encouraged me
to increase the price of my instrumentals. He also mentioned that he could
write up a contract to sell my production for twice the price and keep half the
take. That’s a great deal… right?

He had also talked about other
things, which may include what to some is known as a BATNA. This is used to
decide the result of not negotiating some form a deal. In this case it would be
the rates needed to complete an audio project. Competing with low prices for
recording audio can be a competitive process. The studio manger explained that
in most cases people who want the cheapest price for beats but the highest return
on tracks. Reminding artists that good productions will enhance their career is
a method used to change the playing field and get clients to negotiate with
producers. This concept is especially reinforced when clients become unwilling
to pay more for complex production.

Understanding status in today’s
world of negotiation is also another important factor in getting clients to
negotiate. Although I had a chance to speak with several individuals, this
studio manager himself had other things he was involved in through the local
scene, within a chain of other studios. I thought it to be nice that he had
given me an opportunity to use the equipment that he had given the fact he
didn’t know me very well. I found it to be nice based on his list of clients he
said he was currently working with. He produces Hop-Hop for Kobe Bryant’s
artist too. I myself understand that the financial risk involved with an artist
being back by a person such as Bryant has lots of money involved. It is
understood that a person in charge of the production for that artist must have
a great reputation. Based of my assumption of Kobe’s expert knowledge of audio engineers,
I do feel he my have when to a more proven studio to increase the chances of
the artist success. What do you think?

Recession Proof, Mang!

Recession Proof, Mang!

Typically we wouldn’t expect
rappers who claim to have millions to face the same recession we as citizens of
the United States claim to be facing. Now of course if we take a closer look,
anyone with financial intelligence can see that the rappers are selling the
dream that you're destined to chase. Today you can find rappers changing their
swag to match a more believable perspective. As record sales decline, it’s
becoming more apparent to the general population that musicians and artists are
not making even half the amount they used to. Today artists claiming to still
have the big bling are those who are proclaiming to be “recession proof, mang!”

            In an
article at CNN.com,
luxury cars gold teeth and diamond chains are said to be a thing of the past
(Sutter, 2009). The most important thing to look at here is the decline of
Hip-Hop record sales mentioned. With only two genres taking a larger fall in
sales, it leads one whom is planning to build a career predominantly in this
field to refine and restructure the financing methods it would typically take
to maintain n a recording business. One thing that most people today are facing
is the realization that they can’t quit their day jobs! This is not limited
just personnel trying to get into the entertainment industry, but we also find
that people are not able to retire as quickly as in the past. Everyone in this
country seems to have been forced to restructure their finances. This
restructure is affecting not just the economy and record sales, but also how production
is made with the idea of return on investment in mind.

            Overall the
industry has become a small business and is intricately designed to look very
large. Unfortunately for most seeking refuge in this industry having two
careers now seems to be the only option. This in itself will also affect the
lifestyle of the industry professional, leaving them to invest less in more
places. What do you think?

Not Enough Minerals, Scotty!

Not Enough Minerals, Scotty!

Hip-Hop producer Scott Storch is
well known amongst the producers of today. Scott Storch “Scotty” as made a
living making instrumentals for artists such as Lil' Wayne, and pop artists
such as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Chris Brown. In a short article
at www.tmz.com,
Storch is put on blast for owing about $60,000 to creditors. Apparently his net
worth was reportedly around $70 million. This is a classic case of financial
mismanagement. Unfortunately for “Scotty”, there are not enough minerals!

            Obviously
Storch doesn't have $70 million in his back pocket. He has been having some
issues and in a short article at www.mtv.com
it explains how he went broke! If I
could manage to get at least $5 million, I think I'll be set for life. It's
clearly possible for businesses to lose lots of money and practically glad
business overnight. I don't think that one person in control over that much
money specifically would be negligent enough to not manage it properly or have
attracted the proper personnel to my handle budgeting and financing. Even if I
had $1 million and I lived off of it, only spending about $30,000 a year, they
still lived off of it for about 35 years. Coming up on 30 in a few years,
considering my nationality, I don't think that I would need much more money
after that.

            Based on
the research I plan to complete this year, I will have the confidence necessary
to move forward with my plans to make such income. Although the annual income
of all the businesses combined will be more than enough, I'm sure once they are
all operating at optimal capacity, employee wages and operating costs will not
allow me to take home the full $1 million annual return. Not even considering
that with my IT background I could bring in $70K-$146K, the average audio engineer
brings in only about $22K-$70K a year. These 2 professions are not business
ventures whatsoever. I'll use the money from working these positions, whether
in whole or in part, to fund my future business ventures. What do you think?

achievements an artist can hope to achieve is receiving a Gold®, Platinum®,
Multi-Platinum™ sales award! The RIAA is the hub for about 85% of legitimate
record music in the USA. In more ways than one the RIAA affects me in my future
businesses. Almost every artist seeking to make it big that comes to the door
will want to at least have their record go Gold®. That's not even to mention
the fact that the RIAA tracks things such as the growth of overall sales and
other things like reduction in piracy.

to digitally track sales is important factor in knowing which artists will make
what amount of sales. Planning for expansion is important, and in considering
these factors it is wise to consider an automated system that will allow you to
validate your progress in the music industry. Pricing can be steep for anyone
without good reason to check this information. Available at RIAA.com is a database
that will allow you to track such information.

important thing to remember is that they help regulate not just radio play the
music in all its forms including ring tones, but they also assist in tracking
royalties for artists. They in along with a few others track the information
through legal legislation. Along with that comes another major benefit. The
information logged in this database at the RIAA website is kept up-to-date. If
you check the database you can find listings as late as this month. This will
obviously give an artist an indication right away if their album has received a
certification award. It is my intent to add any information I can about the
RIAA and their website to my PLN to track information about my artists in the
future. If there's any information anyone would like to tell me that it further
my knowledge about any other ways their website could be useful please fill
free to reply. So tell me… What do you think?

The Art Of
Auditory Seduction.

            Typically
it is uncommon for us to ask questions about how it is we understand music or
the human voice. Often times even though we ourselves can't sing, we can tell
when singers are out of tune if they hit a sour note. Mechanisms built into the
brain allow us to discern these differences. After visiting Ted.com and
reviewing the best of the Web speeches, I noticed a short speech by Bobby
McFerrin. In the beginning of the speech he talks about expectations.
Afterwards he briefly encouraged the crowd to follow along. At that point he
began to hum a tone and jump up and down. He then began to jump in different
direction humming a different tone for the two areas he landed in. Each time
the crowd anticipated the correct tone without him having to say so, it would
prove to demonstrate his point on expectations. At the same time he's
demonstrating what I feel should be known to all as the art of seduction!

            The art of
seduction is a simple concept. Although science and music may have many
explanations for this concept, the best way to explain this at this point is to
use simple terms. It’s the emotion in the music. It's not just necessarily the
tone of the singers voice in the vocal tracks and a song treated to perfection
by the world's greatest audio professionals. It also means the way the music is
put together by collision of the harmonics being pressed together, varying in
amplitude at different specified times, tempo, and beat per minute. Pitch
extraction is a word defined here at this link to some supporting
information by Standford.edu which explains how the mind can
estimate perfect pitch and naturally assume the next logical harmonic tone and
a musical sequence on a whole scale. Dr. Joy also mentions this concept
deep in an article written here at JRSM. If we use the same concept here, we
can also use this same concept to understand a simple idea. Typically in a song
harmonics and tones created by the writer are intended for this song alone.
However the main parts known as the hook can also be more than just the chorus
area of the song. These areas of the song can then be accented in motif fashion
to allow for generative playback or live mix via audio mix engine.

Next, if we can surprise this
substantial feeling of emotion the best craftsmen create to generate an
algorithm to invent a generative mix engine. This would be in perspective to an
audio project. Then we can listen to music a brand new way. This new way will
allow for more work, for media development, and hopefully more innovative ideas
based on the exception society will eventually make because of the melting pot
of the Internet. Internet sites like Pandora allow
you to listen to who you want, when you want, for as long as you want. Apply
that concepts to music and the way it's mixed and normally listened to.
Understanding and controlling this thought itself is the art of seduction.
Mastering this idea could become very lucrative to anyone looking to get rich
in this area of the market. Being able to fool the audience offering the
greatest musical turnaround and anticipation along with the best follow-through
along with longevity will be the desired skill amongst the future producers of
tomorrow!

The Revenge of the Programmer!

After I had decided to attend last
week’s event, I had made an attempt to enter the beat-battle taking place after
the Black History Month Cotton Club experience.
I made a valiant effort to get in contact with the head of the Producers
Guild only to find out that I have to wait until next month’s battle. Still in
high hopes I had an opportunity to enjoy the show and see just what would lye
in store for me once I enter the ring! The excitement of these battles has
become almost, if not as popular as the modern day rap battle. Battles like Soundtrackbeatbattle.com show
us just what I mean. Although some have named the beat-maker a programmer
rather than a successor, these programmers have also set out to claim equal
value in the Hip-Hop realm. It’s the revenge of the programmers!

You might say now that technology
has allowed everyone the ability to become and artist or beat maker, the
playing field has become more accessible. With the industry in bad shape
according to the old business model, today’s crowd only trusts the best
craftsmanship. Our minds have accepted the greats of the past through the
normal means of media consumption. This is based on a time when social media
networks, peer-to-peer networks, and CD burners weren’t all in the same roof in
most homes in the country. Now as we look forward we find that promotion is
still key to great sales, but the best innovative craftsmanship can’t be
challenged if you can get it heard! In todays digital market you don’t have to
contact a mainstream label producer or certified audio professional to get a
new sound for an audio project. You can visit websites like Buyabeat.com and simply
buy the beats you need straight off the Internet in high quality audio formats.
Once again, this takeover has saturated the market making it difficult to
market your instrumentals beyond a few dollars profit. The masters of this
digital instrument age will stand to claim vengeance upon the need for any
other entity in the remaining entertainment industry. Thus leaving the human
talent and the programmer standing hand in hand. What do you think?

The Programmer, Huh?

Today the majority of the heavy
wait audio professionals would tell you that a guy that makes beats is not a
producer. Due to the fact that there is not enough audio professionals that
make beats, this idea is widely accepted and rarely challenged through an
intricate design of separation. This invisible barrier states that the correct
term for a beat maker is not a producer, but a programmer. A programmer huh?

Most
“Non-Beat makers” in the music industry among others have chosen to focus
only on the reason why such a person is not considered a producer. A guess
based on personal experience tells me that about 85% of the audio professionals
I have heard from lean more towards the programmer concept. Even popular modern
day producers like Khalil,
which started their career making beats feel this way. That means 15% of the
creative people left either have a mixed opinion or focus on the factual and
physical conceptual relationship between the idea that a beat producer is in
fact still to be recognized as a producer based of the nature of a beats
intended lifecycle. I fall somewhere
within that 15%. I’m the guy from the computer age that wonders if the so
called ” programmer” who is viewed as a wannabe step child, naturally going to
over power and outlive the oppression of the anti-digital musicians. The question now is, is being called a programmer
in a computer world really something an audio professional should use to
ostracize the reality of the inevitable?

With the inevitable idea being that soon
technology will have found a way to eliminate the separation between these
related roles, I take into consideration that others are starting to consider
the martial art of beat making a historical part in the timeline of music.
Today at Full Sail University, in celebration of Black History Month, the Black
Student Union and the Producers Guild are taking part in a celebration called
the Cotton Club that
will show case some of the greatest African American musical influences in
American history. This event will also be focused on a modern day beat battle. Events
such as these strongly support the idea that the programmer is indeed to
receive recognition among some as an important piece of history.

With the new changes in the
industry underway, it can now be said that a beat maker can not only possibly be
viewed as a real producer but can consider being called a programmer a complement
in todays audio industry. With these things in mind, my intent is to enter the
modern day beat competition in hopes of receiving an opportunity to showcase my
best programs. My following blog will discuss the outcome of the event. I would
love to hear what you think! See you there!

Mobile Sonic Clarity

One thing that I have found myself thinking about time and time
again is the vast advancements in technology. Specifically, the advancements in
audio technology, and Digital Audio Workstations. Universal Audio makes the UAD
series audio interface that allows you to use emulated plug-ins that mimic
famous high-end professional audio gear, used by the greats since the 1960s.

I
found an article at SOS.com that discusses a few early UAD plug-ins. SOS.com
seemed to be a good way for me to keep up with technical breakthroughs and
information imperative to my growth as an audio professional. I choose the RSS
feed and made it an addition to my PLN. The article Plug-in Folder (SOS, 2006)
is found there and has three subtopics. One of which talks about the great
lengths Universal Audio has gone through to digitally match early Roland
technology. This profitable scientific venture has grown into a new series of
DSP accelerator interfaces. Portable concepts have already been greatly considered
in mobile scenarios. This option has been made available due to the inevitable
fact that in the future, all audio processing will be done with out having to
pay for professional services. Without discussing every single individual piece
of gear, it would benefit everyone to know that after discussing these devices
with a few of the Full Sail staff, we agree that these devices provide
revolutionary dynamic processing to audio never before possible.

            Now, since the
release of their most powerful DSP card models, a new addition to already
high-end DSP accelerator capabilities, a powerful D/A convertor was introduced into
the mix to make the new UA Apollo. The main feature that I appreciate about
this device is that it will allow you to run the already popular plug-in by
Universal Audio. With the way the industry is headed, anyone can see them
selves on TV now! The need for a studio is becoming more irrelevant by the day.
Although there is still a thin barrier between the Pros and the Joes, the financial
barrier is getting smaller. This is a great piece of gear for the new age
engineer. There are more than enough I/Os to support a small recording session
as well as the other revolutionary precision you will have with this new
portable technology. The UA Apollo is the last this in my vocal chain and the first
thing on my wish list. What do you think?
