Nucon Concrete is proud to be a sponsor of the Master Concreters' Association of Queensland Excellence in Industry Awards 2012. The Awards will be held at Moda, Portside on the 2nd of June. The annual gala event showcases high standards in concrete placing by MCAQ memers and also showcases innovation, sustainable products and safety.

MCAQ was established in August 2006 to provide a forum for contractors working in the concreting industry, whether they be placers, pumpers, manufacturers or suppliers.

School excursions a hit with kids

Each year the Nucrush Quarry plays host to dozens of tours for local school children. We have hundreds of upper primary children visit our site as part of the educational curriculum, with their focus including topics such as the manufacturing process, renewable and non-renewable resources, the environment and the importance of rocks in the community.

Most children have never visited a quarry before and are in awe of the size of the equipment including dump trucks and excavators and the scale of our operation. The unique nature of our operation, ensures that all the kids love the adventure and visit.

Over 500 visitors give Open Day 'Thumbs Up'

Over five hundred visitors attended the Nucrush Group’s Community Open Day on Saturday 29th October 2011. In its 6^th year, the free public event is the annual highlight of the Group’s award-winning “Good Neighbour Programme”. Most importantly, the event is a rare opportunity for the community to see what goes on behind the scenes of a hard-rock quarry and concrete plant and for the Group to strengthen their relationship with local residents.

The Nucrush Group is the only quarry in the Gold Coast region to open its gates to the public and host an event of this type. The most popular activity again this year was the guided bus tour of the quarry pit, crushing operation and concrete plant. Visitors comment on how much the pit has changed from one Open Day to the next and what other changes they observe around the operation.

The event also included a variety of information booths, kid’s activities and involvement from local community groups. Information on the businesses and the Group’s environmental practices was available, along with displays of ‘monster trucks and machines’ to appeal to kids of all ages. The theme of rocks and concrete continued through to the free activities with ‘concrete hand prints’, rock climbing, and pet-rock making all on offer.

Specialist contractors and six local community groups, including the blasting professionals Maxam, the Rotary Club of Coomera Valley, Communities for Children and the local Rural Bush Service provided visitors with interactive information and activities.

Further adding to the success and profile of the event was the attendance of the Hon. Stirling Hinchliffe MP, Minister for Employment, Skills and Mining to launch the Nucrush Group and Volvo Trucks school road-safety initiative.

The school road-safety initiative is aimed at educating primary school children on the role that trucks play in the community and the importance of being safe around trucks. The initiative is free to the schools and the first of its kind for the truck manufacturer outside Europe.

Michael Cooper, General Manager of the Nucrush Group, said “The event is a combination of teamwork from across our organisation. Our staff really enjoy showing their place of work to visitors, most of whom have never visited a quarry or concrete plant before and have little concept what goes on behind our avenue of trees.”

Feedback from visitors was extremely positive. Comments such as “Fantastic and informative day, excellently run” and “thank you for providing wonderful activities and staff” summed up how much everyone enjoyed the day.

Nucon Ballina donates to Lions Club

Nucrush Group & Volvo Trucks partner in road-safety initiative

The Nucrush Group, in conjunction with Volvo Trucks, is running a road-safety initiative to educate primary school children on the role that trucks play in the community and the importance of being safe around trucks. The Hon Stirling Hinchliffe MP, Minister for Employment, Skills and Mining, launched the initiative on Saturday 29 October at the Nucrush Quarries Annual Community Open Day.

Annual Community Open Day: Saturday 29th October

Our 6th anual Community Open Day will be held on Saturday, October 29th^th from 1.00pm – 4.00pm. This free public event is a rare opportunity for the community to see what goes on behind the scenes of a hard-rock quarry and concrete plant.

We are the only quarry in the Gold Coast region to open its gates to the public and host an event of this type. For over 40 years the Nucrush Group has built a positive relationship with local schools, residents and community groups in the Upper Coomera and Oxenford area through our award-winning Good Neighbour Programme.

The Community Open Day is the annual highlight of our Good Neighbour Programme. We invite local residents to enjoy an afternoon of free activities including a guided bus tour of the quarry pit, crushing operation and concrete plant, a sausage sizzle and kids activities such as face-painting, creating concrete hand-prints and rock climbing.

We hope that anyone interested in quarries, concrete plants and ‘monster’ machinery will come along and see the Nucrush Group operation and enjoy a fun, family afternoon, but they must wear enclosed footwear and unfortunately, cannot bring along pets.

Over $400 raised for QLD Cancer Council

Nucrush Group staff and management raised over $400.00 for the QLD Cancer Council at the annual Australia's Biggest Morning Tea. We were treated to delicious homemade treats, a beautiful sunny day and great company. Acompanying morning tea was a free flu shot - with a free lolly pop of course!

Tugun Torpedoes: Rocket through Summer
