Complaining to yourself won't do any good.

A complaint is but a key to open the heart and mind, it is call to action. From it flows a plan for orderly work and activity, each person wherever he can be effective, to campaign for bolstering emaan, spreading Quran and by the enjoining of what is right and forbidding what is wrong. One person might do this through his writing, another as a da'ee, another with his wealth.

It all starts with elevating your complaint to Allah, Ta'ala.

The material, the spiritual.

In material matters the believer should always compare himself to those whose situation is lower than one's own, and thank Allah, Ta'ala, for His kindness.

In spiritual matters one should always look at the believer who has greater piety and righteousness than one's own, and plead with Allah to grant him the beneficial knowledge to learn from the other, and the ability and strength to rise higher.

Believers should be very careful how they speak before their children, and if they wish them to improve in learning and moral feeling, inculcate obedience and respect for Allah, Ta'ala.

Shaykh Abdullah sat speaking on serious matters with other scholars in a masjid in al Qassim. The question was raised:"Which is more important - learning or action?"

The shaykh replied, "Action is more important. Of what use are beautiful words and intelligent discourse unless they are put into practice?"

Another student of knowledge upheld the contrary viewpoint. "Learning is more important," he said.

The two learned men finally concluded that both were right.

"Learning is more important when it leads to action," they declared.

The search for selfish benefit to the detriment of the common good is an evil which little by little undermines our ummah and prevents the full development of a Muslim nation-state. Our political, religious and social leaders are its 'social conscience', guaranteeing the transparency of its structures and the ethics grounded in the principles of Qur'aan and sunnah. They must be just. Justice always accompanies Islam.

Insurgency

A faithful believer from Afghanistan was drowning in the Arghandab River near Kandahar. He cried for help. Two Canadian soldiers ran up. When they saw it was a Muslim, they said, "Let the bastard drown!"

When the believer noticed that he was nearing complete fatigue he shouted with all his remaining strength, "Allahu akbar! Down with western imperialism!"

Hearing such rebellious words, the soldiers jumped in the water, pulled the believer out, and arrested him.

Do not be afraid to guide to Islam each person that Allah, Ta'ala, has entrusted to you, certain that each word, each action, if they come from obedience to Him will bear fruit. Appreciate the advantages and recognize the limits of the dunya, with firm certainty that the invitation to Islam is the greatest service we can do for mankind.

Truly, there is no greater good than to lead humanity to God, to awaken emaan, to raise people from mundane existence, and infuse the hope that God guides the lives of individuals and the world. This is the profound and ultimate meaning of following the footsteps of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.

Dear diary,

Sometimes I wake up at night and begin to think about a serious problem facing our ummah and want to complain to someone about it. Then I wake up completely and remember that all power and might is with Allah, Ta'ala, alone and go back to sleep.

When I was 8, 9 and 10 my peers disliked me and gave me a hard time, while adults were fond of me. Now I'm thirty-six and the reverse is true - older people dislike and distrust me, while youngsters have the most sincere kind of love.

A mufassir watched his daughter struggle under the burden of a yoke from which hung two buckets of water. When the luncheon hour had arrived, before he sat down to eat with his students, he washed his hands using very little water.

"Why are you so frugal with the water, shaykh?" asked one of this students.

The shaykh smiled and said: "While it is an act of the sunnah to wash one's hands before meals, I must not be excessively righteous at my daughter's expense."
