Please give my best regards to Nate and Dan and I thank your company for such a wonderful and ohana experience!

A long overdue mahalo to Nate for the extraordinary tour that he provided to my wife and to me. This was actually our second tour with Nate, as on our previous visit a year ago we were on a group tour, and this time we requested an exclusive tour with him for the entire day. As high as our expectations were after last year, our time with Nate on this trip nonetheless surpassed them.

Every aspect of the tour was a delight -visiting the Hilo Coffee Mill, the breathtaking views (and the Lava Tube) at Volcanoes National Park, wine sampling at Volcano Winery, the wonderfully delicious lunch we enjoyed in a secluded outdoor setting, and simply soaking up the glorious scenery of this beautiful Big Island.. It was altogether a perfect day.

We have been blessed to be able to travel with some frequency over the years, and we have never-whether in the US or abroad-had a tour guide to equal Nate.

He is so much fun, so personable, and so incredibly knowledgeable, and we will work hard to retain as much as possible of the information on the history, mythology, language, culture, weather, topography, and everything else that he tried to impart to us.

Thanks also to Debra for facilitating the arrangements. Nui Pohaku is a fantastic tour company, and we hope to be back soon for a third time.

I just wanted to tell you how great it was to go on your Gourmet Volcano tour. My wife and I really enjoyed “chilaxing” with Nate. It was my first cruise to the Islands and our first guided tour. Nate kept our attention throughout the tour with his knowledge and terminology of wildlife, trees, names of the volcanoes and a simple way to pronounce Hawaiian words (Oahea trees, right?). I felt like I was on a field trip as a child! The volcanoes, rain forests, lava fields and lava tube are something we will be sharing with friends for a long time. Being from Colorado we love our mountains and now we love yours too! Lunch was great – I think I ate half of all that was there. We have not had time to sample our coffee yet but the Big Island cookies are all but gone. Thank you again for a very memorable time on the big island!

PS: The story about the coconut being the number one killer – we used it the next day in our bus going to Wimea Canyon. The driver asked what was the number one cause of death in the islands and my wife yelled out “coconuts” and the driver said no one ever guessed that before!

Thanks again Nate!!!!!!!! We had a great time!

We took a tour of the Big Island on December 26th and were thrilled with our experience. As a family of 11 with small children, teenagers and two grandparents, we received a wonderful welcome from Debra and Marty at Hilo Airport. From there, they took care of every need and concern for our day on the Big Island. We enjoyed our time at the Hilo Coffee Mill, Rainbow Falls, the Volcano National Park complete with lunch and lava tube walk, our swim and dinner at the warm volcanic pond, and the black sand beach. Marty was a terrific guide who educated us all on sustainability and Debra is a wonderful hostess. The tour Debra organized was worthwhile for all of us.

Aloha! I wanted to take a minute to write about my amazing experience with Nui Pohaku. My partner, myself and his elderly parents all signed up for the Nui Pohaku Volcano Lava adventure that lasted almost 14 hours door to door (we were staying at Waikaloa Village). From the moment I picked up the phone to talk to Debra, to the moment I was dropped back off at my place, I was blown away by how amazing the whole experience was.

I wanted to take a special moment to talk about our tour guides Pat and Shawn. WOW! Nui Pohaku should be proud to have them on their team. Heck, the beautiful Big Island should be proud to have them as ambassadors of their spirit. Pat was so passionate about nature, so willing to help, punctual, kind, informative and amazing. I was really tickled at her appreciation of the cute little baby fern’s as they turn purple and start to ‘unravel their feathers” .

Shawn really struck a spiritual chord with me! His dedication, wisdom, compassion and enthusiasm was unparalleled. Having travelled and lived in many countries all through out my childhood, I’m always conscious of how the “locals ” are treating the tourists. I always feel that I might be intruding on their space. But being guided by Shawn, you knew how much everyone in the community loved him and watched out for him. His sense of respect for the Hawaiian culture, his deep reverence and adoration for their life-style really made an impact on me.

Standing on Black Sand beach and feeling the energy of the land and the gratitude I felt in my heart to be allowed to be there, admiring the power of the lava seeping through the earth, driving through the sweet sleepy town of Pahoa, walking through the Lava Tubes, having lunch under the trees, having dinner at the Local restaurant on Uncle Roberts land…..all in one day’s living!

Shawn and Pat…you both are true ambassadors not just for Nui Pohaku, but you are living ambassadors of the spirit of Aloha. It was an honor to have spent the day with you.

Thank you Nui Pohaku for allowing us to experience a moment that has probably changed our lives.

ALOHA!

Just a quick note to say that my wife and I had a wonderful time on our volcano/lava combo tour last Monday, 10/25/10. Our guides, Daniel, Alan, Kehea and Sean were all friendly, professional and very knowledgable (especially Daniel – wow!). They handled every situation that arose with grace and ease in the true Aloha spirit.

The food was also very good, and plentiful, at lunch and dinner. We also appreciated the fact that the group was small, so that we could all get to know each other. We made some nice friends that day.

Although it was a long trip, it was filled with wonderful moments and lasting memories.

I will recommend your trip and your company to all my friends. Keep up the good work!
Shawn, our excursion specialist had told the group that was an indication of a small amount of lava making its way to the water and it looked like the volcano was taking a bit of a rest on that day. As the group began to walk back from the beach to dinner and continue on to the lava viewing area, Shawn heard shouts of excitement and they all turned to see a gigantic mushroom like cloud appearing at the ocean entry. It went from this weak entry to a massive expression of volcanic energy in seconds and everyone was so stoked to have witnessed this! That night at the lava viewing area, the glow in the distance from this ocean entry was amazing. The guests were all saying, “Wow… how many times in your lifetime do you really have a chance to experience an active volcano – amazing and unforgettable!” What a great day for all!
