2019-07-13T12:12:00.000-07:00

Yemi Alade continues in her quest for domination and supremacy as the queen of Afropop with another massive hit single featuring American Rap superstar Rick Ross.
Once again Yemi sets another record as the first female Afropop artist to get over 1 million youtube views in 24 hours. This is in addition to the fact that she is the first female afropop artist to hit over 100 million youtube views for her hit single 'Johnny'.

With her youtube channel boasting over a million subscribers and over 7 million followers on instagram Yemi has again thrown down the gauntlet to her bitter arch rival Tiwa Savage over who has the right to wear the crown as the Queen Of Afropop and its looking like that is a debate which will continue for sometime.

Watch out for Yemi's forthcoming album 'Woman Of Steel' due to be released later this year

R Kelly Set To Face More Jail Time

2019-04-21T16:38:00.002-07:00

It very much looks like the ongoing saga of R.Kelly's woes are set to continue and will not be going away any time soon as he once again faces jail time for non payment of child support for the last 2 months an issue that's already led him to spend time in a cell some weeks ago.

At the time R.Kelly was only released after an unidentified friend paid the outstanding amount of $161,000.33 on his behalf however since then R.Kelly has allegedly failed to make a single payment to ex wife Andrea who should receive $20,000 per month for child support.

As a result its very likely that the R&B singer who is still trying to fight charges of sex abuse will most likely be arrested again and locked up soon for this separate offence. As they say in my part of the world "when it rains it pours" it seems R.Kelly is facing a storm of gigantic proportions.

So is this just another case of a famous black male about to be taken down aka Bill Cosby, James Brown, Michael Jackson etc (Well Michael was once black!!) or have they brought it on themselves and deserve the punishment, what do you think.

As the late great Fela Kuti once sang when "When Trouble Sleep Yanga Go Wake Am Wetin He Day Find.. Palavar He Go Get"

IJE-The Journey -Nollywood's Highest Grossing Movie

2012-12-11T05:52:00.003-08:00

IJE -The Journey, Nollywood's highest grossing movie of all time at the cinema is set to continue its winning ways in the DVD market. After several weeks of buzz, the award winning movie hit the DVD market and instantly recorded an unprecedented patronage, selling about 200, 000 on its first day on the shelf. The movie is selling in over 6000 stores in Nigeria, the US and some parts of North America and on music and video merchandising site, I-Tunes and Amazon
The movie, IJE has been tipped to achieve another Nollywood milestone by selling more at the DVD market thereby doing better than the previous bestseller The Return of Jenifa which sold well over 100,000 in its first week in the market. Speaking on the impressive DVD sales, the director and producer of the movie, Chineze Anyaene couldn't hide her joy at the feat "Selling that much on the first day is huge, its more than encouraging. It is not a common feat in a country like Nigeria as a director and producer is always up against various factors". For the New York Film Academy graduate, the journey into Nollywood has been interesting since she overcame her father's initial opposition of her career choice. "My father didn't want me to act in movies for the fear of men touching me on set.
He particularly said that no daughter of his would act because he was so uncomfortable with the way men touch ladies while on set but when I told him I was going behind the camera to direct and produce, he said ok, that's not bad. At a point my mum wanted me to study law but when I returned with my first short film, my father was stunned but very happy and couldn't believe I could do that, he was impressed.

Innocence of the Muslims -An Exploding Controversy

2012-09-15T23:32:00.002-07:00

This is the anti Islam video a that has caused a riots and a violent anti America reactions in the Middle East and all around the world and has lead to the deaths of some people including the American Ambassador to Libya.

I do not normally focus on religious views on this blog which is more to do with African music and entertainment news events however after watching this movie on the net I felt compelled to make of few comments and try to find out what other Africans Muslim or Christains might feel.

I personally found the trailer quite disgusting and insulting to Islam as a religion, and I wonder why this guy Sam Bacile guy who allegedly made it was allowed to publish it in America, I thought all films had to be reviewed by the government films board before they could be published if so was it approved? some may say it's in the interest of freedom of speech and people should be allowed to publish whatever they want but then should people be allowed to publish material that would be offensive to the many millions of Muslims around the world where exactly do we draw the line - would it be alright to publish a Nazi Propaganda film or a film glorifying Racism - I wonder .

I also wonder how much of this was about a person or group of people making a film because they had strong convictions or deep seated feelings against Islam or if they just wanted make a controversial film that would take the proverbial P out Islam in the name of entertainment because they thought it would be funny, or are there more sinister motives at play surely the backers and funders of this film must have known that if it saw the light of the day it would cause a massive controversy and reactions from the Muslin world especially at time when there is already so much that has gone on in places like Iraq,Libya, Afghanistan and Syria.

Is this a calculated attempt to cause even more hatred and friction between the West and the Islamic world for whatever reason or purpose, is there some kind of end game here or am reading too much into it - is the film more a culmination and symptomatic of the very strong anti Islamic feeling in America. I do find it ironic that our governments are always talking about spreading peace and democracy in the Middle East and helping to free the people from so called dictators - then you get a film like this coming out which of course encourages more fundamentalism and serves as a great recruiting tool for extremist groups like Al Qaeda and so on.

On the other hand you might want to question why people should react so strongly to what is essentially just a movie, do people really have any justification for rioting and killing other innocent people,it or is there something fundamentally wrong here aren't religions supposed to spread peace, tolerance and forgiveness of one another. what happened to that basic commandment 'thou shall not kill'

Anyone out there who would like to comment or air their views please feel free to do so.

Peace and Blessing

GFlow Baba-Hustle Nd Bubble

2012-02-16T13:33:00.002-08:00

Big track from G.FlowBaba in case you're wondering who he is then you might recognise him by his former stage name Teran G which he has now changed due to legal and other management reasons don't ask me what that's all about! but he back under new management with a big track simply titled Hussle N Bubble.and it's as catchy as they come with a video which I must say is very slick and well produced, it features flashbacks of his great grandfather the late Herbert Ogunde a musical theatrical Icon, and legendary pioneer of professional theatre as well as one of the first big movie makers in Nigeria.

OKYEAME KWAME : TAKES HIPLIFE BACK TO THE 70s

2011-07-14T20:06:00.000-07:00

Okyeame Kwame took a step back in time to the 70′s with his latest video for the new single “faithful”, which is a mellower sound for him, floating by on its nearly ethereal backing saxophone and drums.

It is written by Okyeame Kwame and Bertha, winner of Stars of the Future season 4( Ghana's version of pop idol). Faithful is the first single off Okyeame Kwame’s upcoming album rumoured to be titled “The Doctor and Nurses”. The video was shot by one of the best music video directors in the business Abraham Ohene-Djan of OM studios.

Watch out for the cameo by Ace Ghanaian producer Appietus, he obviously produced this track and makes a cameo as a the painist . Its a love song! Okyeame Kwame and Bertha could have faked a little bit of chemistry.

It was refreshing and very different from the booty shaking obsessed music videos that have conquered our airwaves, hopefully the point has been made that a good music video can be made without bootyshaking.

Atumpan-THE THING

2011-07-14T19:56:00.000-07:00

Atumpan has got the whole nation singing and talking about 'the thing'. Everyone is definately taking a good guess, as to what this man is singing about ;). the song was a massive radio hit and didnt require a music video to push it promotion wise but Atumpan, who is relatively new to the scene needed to showcase himself to the fans.

They could have done more with the video than literally translate the words into pictures i.e. the classroom scene was too expected...but its a great catchy song , the video adds nothing and takes nothing from it.

Hip life musician, Atumpan's insatiable desire to make it to the top of both the local and international music scene made him bide his time as an 'underground dancehallist'.

He is also a teacher by profession currently pursuing higher studies at University of Education, Winneba reading a Bachelor of Arts program in linguistics, majoring in English.

Put this song on blast where ever you are and you are sure to get everyone dancing. This is the song that got every one dancing at the Big Brother Amplified house.

5FIVE is a pop fusion group with an inclining for experimental genres that have cross over appeal. 5FIVE is a simply code for 50/50 without the zeros, literally meaning 50/50 of all round music. Raised in the centre of Accra Luther Azamati a.k.a Papi and Jeffery Opoku Agyekum a.k.a Killy grew up around a lot of music and were exposed to a plethora of genres which still influence their song writing and flow.

Sanu Kaita's Gift To Greece

2010-06-20T00:46:00.000-07:00

The chances of Nigeria's Super Eagles qualifying from their world cup group seems to be more or less dead and buried after the rash display of a mixture of madness and immaturity from Nigerian Midfielder Sanu Kaita got him a red card and sending off in the 33rd minute, turning round a game in which Nigeria seemed destined to a comfortable cruise to victory after taking the lead early in the game to favour the Greeks who made good use of the extra man as they overran the 10 man Nigerian team and piled pressure on the defence leading to their equaliser and eventual 2-1win.

The Nigerian team now seems set to exit the world cup in the 1st round but still have a slim chance of qualifying, to do so they need to beat Korea by a comfortable margin and hope that Argentina does the same to Greece. The big question would be is the current Nigerian team up to the task?

Watch Highlights of Nigeria V Greece on BBC

In all honesty most avid Nigeria fans must be experiencing large measures of doubt, this is arguably the weakest Nigerian world cup team of recent times lacking the skills and inventiveness of past teams which have included the likes of Finidi George, Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Sunday Oliseh and strong inspirational strikers like Daniel Amokachi and Rashidi Yekini it is difficult to foresee any rays of hope for the current team.

A better Nigerian team should still have held on to the 1-0 lead or at the least held Greece to the 1-1draw and the glaring missed opportunity to equalise by Ogbuke Obasi late in the game only goes on to show the lack of quality in this team.

However I would'nt completely write them off just yet strikers Obafemi Martins, Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Obinna Nsofor are more than capable of finding the net on a good day and even though the calming influence and skills of injured mid fielder John Obi Mikel will be missed Nigeria still has the likes of the young Haruna who can move the ball around in midfield and experienced players like Danny Shittu, Taye Taiwo, Osaze Odemwingie along with veteran striker Kanu to help see them through, Goal keeper Vincent Enyeama has also showed some brilliant form and a lot might still depend on him to keep Nigeria's hopes alive.

In the meantime I think I'm going to place a few bets on Ghana, Ivory coast as the teams most likely to keep Africa's hopes shining in the 2nd round and Brazil because I just luv watching them.
