Gaga – Ohad Naharin’s Movement Language

Gaga è un nuovo modo di acquisire conoscenza e consapevolezza di sè attraverso il corpo.
Gaga fornisce un quadro di riferimento per scoprire e rafforzare il corpo e aggiunge flessibilità , resistenza, agilità alleggerendo i sensi e l'immaginazione.
Gaga accresce la consapevolezza delle debolezze fisiche, risveglia zone intorpidite, espone fissazioni fisiche, e offre modi per la loro eliminazione. Il lavoro migliora il movimento istintivo e collega movimento conscio e inconscio, e permette per un'esperienza di libertà e piacere in modo semplice, in uno spazio piacevole, in abiti comodi, accompagnati da musica, ognuno con se stesso e con gli altri.
"Ci colleghiamo al senso dell'infinita possibilità del nostro corpo. Noi esploriamo movimento multidimensionale, ci godiamo la sensazione di bruciore nei nostri muscoli, siamo pronti a scattare, siamo consapevoli della nostra forza e qualche volta la usiamo. Cambiamo le nostre abitudini di movimento trovandone di nuove. Noi andiamo oltre i nostri limiti familiari. Siamo in grado di essere calmi e pronti allo stesso tempo" Ohad Naharin.
Nel suo lavoro di coreografo, Naharin ha sviluppato un personale metodo, "Gaga", che favorisce l'acquisizione della consapevolezza di sé attraverso il corpo. Divenuto il principale strumento di training della compagnia, questo linguaggio del movimento" oggi è condiviso con tutto il pubblico in classi aperte organizzate al Suzanne Dellal Centre di Tel Aviv, sede della compagnia.

The language of Gaga originated from the belief in the healing, dynamic, ever-changing power of movement.
Gaga has two tracks:

Gaga/dancers, which is the daily training of Batsheva Dance Company members, now taught also for other dancers in Israel and abroad
Gaga/people, open to the public and available for anyone at any age, without the necessity of previous experience

Gaga is a movement language which Ohad Naharin developed over the course of many years and which is applied in daily practice and exercises by the Batsheva Dance Company members. The Gaga/people track was developed for everyone and at every age, and it is studied by an increasing number of people at the Suzanne Dellal Centre, in Jerusalem, and in other locations in Israel, New York, San Francisco, London, Belgium, and around the world.
“Gaga challenges multi-layer tasks.
We are aware of the connection between effort and pleasure, we are aware of the distance between our body parts, we are aware of the friction between flesh and bones, we sense the weight of our body parts, yet, our form is not shaped by gravity . . . We are aware of where we hold unnecessary tension, we let go only to bring life and efficient movement to where we let go . . . We are turning on the volume of listening to our body, we appreciate small gestures, we are measuring and playing with the texture of our flesh and skin, we might be silly, we can laugh at ourselves. We connect to the sense of “plenty
of time,” especially when we move fast, we learn to love our sweat, we discover our passion to move and connect it to effort, we discover both the animal we are and the power of our imagination. We are “body builders with a soft spine.”
We learn to appreciate understatement and exaggeration, we become more delicate and we recognize the importance of the flow of energy and information through our body in all directions. We learn to apply our force in an efficient way and we learn to use “other” forces.
We discover the advantage of soft flesh and sensitive hands, we learn to connect to groove even when there is no music.
We are aware of people in the room and we realize that we are not in the center of it all. We become more aware of our form since we never look at ourselves in a mirror; there are no mirrors. We connect to the sense of the endlessness of possibilities. Yielding is constant while we are ready to snap . . .
We explore multi-dimensional movement, we enjoy the burning sensation in our muscles, we are aware of our explosive power and sometimes we use it. We change our movement habits by finding new ones, we can be calm and alert at once.
We become available . . .”

Hofesh Shechter is recognised as one of the UK’s most exciting contemporary artists, with his eponymous Company touring worldwide to audience and critical acclaim. A former Drummer in a rock band, Shechter is renowned for creating the musical scores for each of his dance creations with his raw, atmospheric music complimenting his Company’s unique physicality.
After graduating from the Jerusalem Academy for Dance and Music Hofesh moved to Tel Aviv to join the world-renowned Batsheva Dance Company. Here he began drum and percussion studies which continued in Paris at the Agostiny College of Rhythm. Subsequently he began experimenting and developing his own music whilst participating in various projects in Europe involving dance, theatre and body-percussion. In 2002 Hofesh arrived in the UK.
Hofesh made his choreographic debut with the duet Fragments (2003), followed by Cult for The Place Prize 2004 and Uprising (2006), his ever-popular work for seven men. The three works formed the triple bill deGENERATION, Hofesh’s first full evening of work. In 2007 he was commissioned by London's three major venues The Place, Southbank Centre and Sadler's Wells to create In your rooms. Drawing further from Hofesh’s now signature style of original music and choreography, Shechter was catapulted into the media spotlight with much anticipation surrounding the premiere of the work, resulting in sell-out performances and standing ovations at Sadler’s Wells Theatre.
After forming his international Company of highly skilled, individually talented dancers in 2008, Hofesh created The Choreographer’s Cut in 2009. Commissioned by Sadler’s Wells and performed at London’s iconic music venue the Roundhouse; Hofesh reworked his acclaimed double bill Uprising/In your rooms to feature a band of 20 musicians alongside a company of 17 dancers. Also in 2009 Hofesh was commissioned by Brighton Festival to create the “exquisitely acrimonious” The Art of Not Looking Back (The Observer, 2009) which was inspired by and made for six female dancers. An outdoor version of the work was presented at Latitude Festival later that year.
In May 2010 Hofesh presented his first full length work Political Mother which premiered at the Brighton Festival. Featuring Shechter’s cinematic score, the piece was performed by 10 dancers and featured a band of 8 live drummers and electric guitarists. The success of the show gained the Company the worldwide attention they deserved, and they have since toured their repertoire to Australasia, United States, Asia, and across Europe gaining a huge following.
Returning to the piece in 2011, Sadler’s Wells commissioned Hofesh to create Political Mother: Choreographer’s Cut, with an even larger band of 24 musicians and 16 dancers. The show was deemed ‘a mind blowing mix of sound and vision’ by critics and cemented Hofesh’s reputation as both a choreographer and composer of recognition. Fresh from the show’s success, Hofesh’s worked in collaboration with the sculptor Antony Gormley to create Survivor, a large-scale art/music performance which premiered at the Barbican in January 2012.
Hofesh has been commissioned in the UK by Bare Bones Dance Company, Edge and Verve (the postgraduate companies of London Contemporary Dance School and Northern School of Contemporary Dance respectively), StopGAP Dance Company, Scottish Dance Theatre, CandoCo and Dance United. Internationally, Hofesh has made new work and remounted works on Ballet CeDeCe (Portugal), Hellenic Dance Company (Greece), Bern:Ballett (Switzerland), Skanes Dansteater (Sweden), Carte Blanche Dance Company (Norway) and Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet (New York). In 2012, Hofesh will create a new work for the first-ever performance by new UK-wide youth dance company, the U.Dance Ensemble, which premiered at the Southbank Centre in July 2012.
Hofesh worked as choreographer at The Royal Court Theatre for Motortown by Simon Stephens (2006) and on The Arsonists (2007), collaborating with director Ramin Gray on both productions. He was choreographer for the National Theatre’s award-winning production of Saint Joan (2007), directed by Marianne Elliot and starring Anne Marie Duff. He also choreographed the hit dance sequence ‘Maxxie’s Dance’ for the opening of the second series of Channel 4’s popular drama Skins.
His work has earned him a string of nominations and awards including: winner of the 3rd Serge Diaghilev choreography competition (Fragments), winner of the Audience Choice Award at the Place Prize 2004 (Cult), nominated for a South Bank Show Award and winner of the Critics Circle Award for Best Choreography (modern) 2008 (In your rooms), and nominated for a South Bank Sky Arts Award 2011 (Political Mother). He was also winner of the Movimentos Most Promising Newcomer in Dance Award (2009) and the British Theatre Institute’s Award for Excellence in International Dance (2011).
Hofesh is an Associate Artist of Sadler’s Wells and Hofesh Shechter Company is Resident Company at Brighton Dome.

began dancing with Batsheva Ensemble in 2001 and joined the senior Batsheva Dance Company in 2004, where he performed numerous repertoire pieces by choreographers such as Ohad Naharin, Sharon Eyal, and Yasmeen Godder. Since leaving the company in 2012, he has served as Ohad Naharin's assistant in the creation process for The Hole (2013). Guy is also an active DJ in Tel Aviv's local scene, DJing at clubs and bars as well as DJing live for Batsheva Dance Company's performances of Session. Guy has taught Gaga since 2002 in Israel and overseas. He gives workshops for professional dancers and also teaches Gaga/people classes.

Idan Sharabi

founder of 'Idan Sharabi and Dancers', was born in Israel.
After his high school training in Thelma Yellin, he was accepted to The Juilliard School in New York.
Upon his graduation he won The Zeraspe Award for "Best Juiliard Choreographer of 2006" and started his career dancing for The Nederlands Dans Teater in Holland.
There he was chosen as one of the 'NDT Upcoming Choreographers' for 2010 and his choreography was recognized and appreciated. Sharabi returned to Israel and entered The Batsheva Dance Company. He created the evening "Home" which was greatly reviewed and then, he was invited to create for The Israeli Opera House's dance company "TheProject".
Last season, Sharabi created for The Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company (Israel) as well as Ballet Junior de Geneve (Switzerland). In April 12', he won the 2nd place in The Copenhagen International Choreography Competition, in Denmark, for his duo, Rak 2 and then created for the Noord Nederlandse Dans (Holland).
Throughout the last two years Sharabi has been teaching and creating as well for schools, such as Cont. Dance School Hamburg, Gothenburg Ballet Academy, Alvin Ailey School, The Maslool Dance Program, The Sadna in Ga'aton, Israel, and more.
This year Sharabi was chosen to be one of the 9 promising young artists of Israel by American Express.
This summer Sharabi was creating for The Israeli Ballet, Zhukov Dance Theater SF, California, and performing his duo, Adar, in Dansk Danse Teater Festival - 'Copenhagen Summer Dance 2013'.
Recently, 'Idan Sharabi and Dancers' were invited to The Belgrade Dance Festival (Serbia), as well as the ilDance Gala evening, in Sweden, where they toured with the new creation
Joni Solos Series. This season 'Idan Sharabi and Dancers' premiered 3 works, a full evening program by Sharabi in Suzanne Dellal Theater in Tel aviv, Israel. Immediately after that, they were invited to perform it again in the Maholohet Summer Dance Festival in Tel aviv.

Ballerina solista, assistente alla coreografia, coreografa, insegnante modern dance

Dal 2007 dirige l’associazione “Officina della danza a.s.d.” che si scioglie per dar vita alla “Nuova Officina della danza a.s.d.” associazione che s’impegna ad organizzare, oltre ai corsi quotidiani di danza classica, moderna e contemporanea, anche stage o laboratori coreografici mensili con Maestri delle più importanti tecniche di danza e coreografi internazionali.

Solo dancer, assistant choreographer, choreographer, teacher modern.

In 1973 she began studying ballet at the School of Loredana Furno and at twelve, she entered to the training school of the Teatro Nuovo Company in Turin.

Her spirit of research and passion for studying push her abroad to the United States in New York, where she earned a scholarship for all life, but also in France and Austria.

She studied american ballet with Deborah Weaver, ( American Ballet Theatre dancer), Burman (ABT), Vernon, modern and contemporary jazz, jazz with the best teachers and the best schools in the United States.
In 1985 she moved to Milan where she began her career in television RAI and Mediaset, as soloist with André De la Roche, Steve La Chance, Iaia De Capitani, Gianin Loringett, Gino Landi, Franco Miseria, and with directors such as Dario Fo, Giorgio Albertazzi, Giancarlo Nicotra, Michele Guardì, Enzo Trapani.

To the cinema and to the theater as a solo dancer first, and then as assistant to the choreography on TV sets and stages, alongside to Franco MISERIA and GINO LANDI, and as a choreographer alongside to the director Renzo MARTINELLI, on advertising sets.

At the same time she works as dancer, she gave professional classes at : SPID , MAS, Teatro Carcano, Dimensione Danza, California in Milano, she taught history of the movement in Giorgio Albertazzi and Elisabetta Gardini's school, she followed as assistant Max Stone contemporary professor durin his workshop in tour in Italy, and as assistant choreographer Franco Miseria,italian director.

She reguarly teaches in Turin c/o NOD space and she periodically collaborates with the dance center "AREA DANCE" in Milan as modern dance teacher .

FORMAZIONE 1 Percorso di formazione coreutica rivolto a chi voglia approfondire lo studio della danza classica moderna e contemporanea.

20/40 lezioni mensili con insegnanti altamente qualificati divisi tra più livelli.

Il corso è ideato anche per chi ancora frquenta la scuola superiore, ma vuole anche intraprendere questo cammino, l'orario d' inizio alle lezioni è h: 15,15 dal lunedì al venerdì, con la possibilità d'integrazione con i corsi FORMAZIONE 2.

INSEGNAMENTI

Il Corso prevede insegnamenti principali e complementari, sia pratici che teorici, che mirano al perfezionamento delle tecniche di danza.

I corsi principali si sviluppano lungo tutto l’arco dell’anno, mentre i complementari sono periodici.

La disciplina della danza comporta un notevole impegno sia fisico sia psichico.
Come avviene nella pratica sportiva, è necessario integrare il lavoro specifico con attività complementari

che rinforzino i punti critici al fine di:

- Ottenere migliori risultati
- Ridurre le problematiche determinate dall’intenso allenamento
- Affrontare con efficacia performance sul palco

QUOTA D'ISCRIZIONE E QUOTA DI FREQUENZA da settembre a fine luglio

E’ prevista la possibilità di finanziamento o pagamento rateizzato da accordare con l'amministrazione.
Le quote comprendono sia gli insegnamenti principali che complementari, pratici e teorici, i laboratori, la partecipazione ai lavori coreografici nonché l’assicurazione infortuni.
Gli stage con maestri ospiti organizzati da NOD, non sono inclusi
Se iscritti ai corsi di avviamento o perfezionamento si può partecipare agli stage tenuti dai maestri ospiti, con il 20% di sconto sulla tariffa esposta.

La partecipazione al corso di perfezionamento WORKSHOP tenuto da insegnanti ospiti prevede il versamento della quota d’iscrizione annuale.

BORSE DI STUDIO

Sono previste agevolazioni destinate a soggetti meritevoli e particolarmente bisognosi. L’assegnazione di
borse o agevolazioni è a insindacabile giudizio della Direzione che valuta le richieste ad essa pervenute.
Sia le borse che le agevolazioni sono soggette a valutazioni di merito espresse periodicamente dalla
Direzione e riferite al profitto dello studente. La Direzione può sospendere o interrompere in qualsiasi
momento l’erogazione della borsa di studio in caso di valutazione negativa espressa sul profitto o in caso
di assenze prolungate e ingiustificate da parte del corsista.

L’abbandono

di ognuno dei suddetti corsi non dà diritto ad alcun rimborso di quote versate, né solleva il corsista dal versamento di quote ancora dovute a saldo. Queste ultime non saranno richieste solo in caso di infortunio accaduto durante lo svolgimento del Corso stesso che costringe il corsista a non poter più frequentare. Le quote non comprendono le spese di soggiorno a Torino.

GAGA TECHNIC

Gaga è il linguaggio del movimento sviluppato da Ohad NAHARIN attraverso il suo lavoro come coreografo e Direttore artistico della BATSHEVA Dance Company.
Gaga ha due direzioni, Gaga per ballerini, quotididanamente seguita dai membri della compagnia, adesso insegnanta anche a danzatori in Israele ed all'estero; e Gaga/persone, aperto a tutti, adatto a ogni età, senza la necessità di una precedente esperienza.
Le lezioni di Gaga sono tenute per un numero sempre crescente a Suzanne Dellal Centre e in altri posti nel paese ed all'estero.

Gaga is the movement language developed by Ohad Naharin throughout his work as a choreographer and Artistic Director of Batsheva Dance Company. Gaga has two tracks: Gaga/dancers, which is the daily training of Batsheva Dance Company members, now taught also for other dancers in Israel and abroad; and Gaga/people, open to the public and available for anyone at any age, without the necessity of previous experience. Gaga classes are held for a growing number of people in the Suzanne Dellal Centre and at additional places in the country and abroad.

Gaga è un nuovo modo di acquisire conoscenza e consapevolezza di sé attraverso il corpo. Gaga fornisce un quadro per scoprire e rafforzare il corpo e l'aggiunta di flessibilità, resistenza, agilità e alleggerendo i sensi e la fantasia. Gaga aumenta la consapevolezza delle debolezze fisiche, risveglia le zone intorpidite, espone fissazioni fisiche, e offre molti modi per la loro eliminazione. Il lavoro migliora il movimento istintivo e collega il movimento conscio e inconscio, e permette un'esperienza di libertà e piacere in un unico modo, in uno spazio piacevole, in abiti comodi, accompagnati da musica, ognuno con se stesso e gli altri.

Born in Israel, Igal Perry began his dancing career with Karmon, a folk dance company, and later joined the Bat-Dor Dance Company where he worked with leading teachers and choreographers including Inesse Alexandrov, Benjamin Harkarvy, John Butler, Rudi Van Dantzig, Alvin Ailey, Paul Sanasardo, and Lar Lubovitch. Upon arriving in the United States, Mr. Perry joined Dennis Wayne’s Dancers as a ballet master and choreographer. During that period, he staged John Butler’s work for the New York City Opera, the Opera of Munich, Caracas Ballet, and Teatro Alla Scala in Milan, where he also directed the world premiere of Krzysztof Penderecki’s opera Paradise Lost.

Mr. Perry’s first full evening of ballets, Chromatic Motions, was presented in 1979, in collaboration with the Manhattan School of Music, presenting works to original music by Rand Steiger, Randy Packer, Edward Billous, and more. In 1981 and 1982, he headed the ballet department at Jacob’s Pillow, and went on to co-direct the Clive Thompson Dance Company. In 1983, Mr. Perry celebrated the opening of his dance school Peridance Center, now Peridance Capezio Center, which has since been providing a nurturing and professional environment for all dancers. A year after the opening of his school, he founded his dance company the Peridance Ensemble, now Peridance Contemporary Dance Company, for which he has choreographed over 50 works. Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), The Joyce Theater, and City Center are amongst the many theaters in which the Company has performed through the years. Mr. Perry has collaborated with numerous composers including John Mackey, Quentine Chappetta, Phillip Hamilton, and Avner Dorman, with whom he has created the full length work Dreams and Demons (2003).

Mr. Perry’s international engagements as a teacher and choreographer include The Scapino Ballet and Het National Ballet (Holland), Laterna Magica and the National Ballet (Prague), Architanz (Tokyo), The Royal Ballet of Sweden, The National Ballet of China, and the Kwang-Ju City Ballet Company (Korea), where he also serves as Artistic Director for the Kwang- Ju International Ballet Competition. Mr. Perry’s works are in the repertories of companies throughout the world, including the Batsheva and Bat-Dor Dance Companies (Israel), Companhia de Danca de Lisboa (Portugal), the Alberta Ballet (Canada), Complexions (USA) and Alvin Ailey II (USA). Since 1995, Mr. Perry has been serving as guest master teacher at Juilliard, where he also staged his Intimate Voices, and premiered Mourning Song, created for the Juilliard Dance Ensemble. Mr. Perry’s work has been repeatedly presented at the prestigious Florence Dance Festival (Italy) by his Company as well as by Florence Dance Company. In May 2007, Mr. Perry was inducted into the Dance Library of Israel Hall of Fame.

Mr. Perry is the Artistic Director of Peridance Contemporary Dance Company.

Doron Raz Avraham
was born in Israel in 1984. She started dancing at the age of three and trained for eight years at the School for Contemporary Dance – Haya Zur. In 2000, at the age of sixteen, Doron was accepted to the Batsheva Ensemble. During the next five years, she danced for Ohad Naharin and Sharon Eyal. In 2005, she was appointed the Rehearsal Manager of the company and continued to dance with the group.
Since 2006, Doron has danced in the companies of other choreographers including Emanuel Gat, Anat Danieli, and Dana Ruttenberg. In 2009, she danced in Clipa Theater’s production of the Short Stories of Kafka.
Besides performing, Doron has created her own works which have been showcased in festivals throughout Israel and Japan. Her duet The Lemon of Pink (2005) was presented at the Intimadance Festival at Tmuna Theater, and her trio Hen (2007) was featured in the Shades of Dance Festival at the Suzanne Dellal Centre. Women of the World (2008), a duet, was presented at Hazira Habein-tchumit in Jerusalem.
While maintaining an active schedule as a performer and creator, Doron has been teaching Gaga since 2005. She teaches Gaga/people and Gaga/dancers at locations throughout Israel including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Nir Eliyahu, Karkur, and the Zeadim (Steps) school in Kfar Saba. She has taught Gaga to underprivileged students in Schunat Ha’tikva’s Beit Dani and to Ethiopian youth in Yokne’am, and she has led classes at an Arab-Jewish community center in Jaffa. Since 2007, Doron has taught an annual Gaga course in the Japanese cities of Tokyo, Yokahama, Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe. She has also led Gaga workshops at the Zurich University of the Arts in Switzerland (2009) and at Khadans in Antwerp, Belgium (2010). Doron manages Gaga abroad.

OHAD NAHARIN has been hailed as one of the world’s preeminent contemporary choreographers. As Artistic Director of Batsheva Dance Company since 1990, he has guided the company with an adventurous artistic vision and reinvigorated its repertory with his captivating choreography. Naharin is also the originator of an innovative movement language, Gaga, which has enriched his extraordinary movement invention, revolutionized the company’s training, and emerged as a growing force in the larger field of movement practices for both dancers and non-dancers

Born in 1952 on Kibbutz Mizra, Ohad Naharin began his dance training with the Batsheva Dance Company in 1974. During his first year with the company, visiting choreographer Martha Graham singled out Naharin for his talent and invited him to join her own company in New York. While in New York, Naharin studied on scholarship at the School of American Ballet, furthered his training at The Juilliard School, and polished his technique with master teachers Maggie Black and David Howard. He went on to perform internationally with Israel’s Bat-Dor Dance Company and Maurice Béjart’s Ballet du XXe Siècle in Brussels.

Naharin returned to New York in 1980, making his choreographic debut at the Kazuko Hirabayshi studio. That year, he formed the Ohad Naharin Dance Company with his wife, Mari Kajiwara, who died of cancer in 2001. From 1980 until 1990, Naharin’s company performed in New York and abroad to great critical acclaim. As his choreographic voice developed, he received commissions from world-renowned companies including Batsheva, Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, and Nederlands Dans Theater.

Naharin was appointed Artistic Director of Batsheva Dance Company in 1990 and has served in this role except for the 2003-2004 season, when he held the title of House Choreographer. During his tenure with the company, Naharin has choreographed over 20 works for Batsheva and its junior division, Batsheva Ensemble. He has also restaged over 10 of his dances for the company and recombined excerpts from his repertory to create Deca Dance, a constantly evolving evening-length work.

Naharin trained in music throughout his youth, and he has often used his musical prowess to amplify his choreographic impact. He has collaborated with several notable musical artists to create scores for his dances, including Israeli rock group The Tractor’s Revenge (for Kyr, 1990), Avi Belleli and Dan Makov (for Anaphaza, 1993), and Ivri Lider (for Z/na, 1995). Under the pseudonym Maxim Waratt, Naharin composed music for MAX (2007) and edited and mixed the soundtracks for Mamootot (2003) and HoraPlayback (2004), a solo evening which he directed and performed. In addition to his work for the stage, Naharin has pioneered Gaga, an innovative movement language. Gaga, which emphasizes the exploration of sensation and availability for movement, is now the primary training method for Batsheva’s dancers. Gaga has also attracted a wide following among dancers around the world and appealed to the general public in Israel, where open classes are offered regularly in Tel Aviv and other locations.

Naharin’s compelling choreographic craft and inventive, supremely textured movement vocabulary have made him a favorite guest artist in dance companies around the world. His works have been performed by prominent companies including Nederlands Dans Theater, Ballet Frankfurt, Lyon Opera Ballet, Compañía Nacional de Danza (Spain), Cullberg Ballet (Sweden), the Finnish National Ballet, the Paris Opera Ballet, Balé da Cidade de São Paulo, Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet (New York), Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and Les Grand Ballets Canadiens de Montréal. Naharin’s rehearsal process with Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet during a restaging of Deca Dance was the subject of Tomer Heymann’s documentary Out of Focus (2007).

Naharin’s rich contributions to the field of dance have garnered him many awards and honors. In Israel, he has received a Doctor of Philosophy honoris causa by the Weizmann Institute of Science (2004), the prestigious Israel Prize for dance (2005), a Jewish Culture Achievement Award by The Foundation for Jewish Culture (2008), a Doctor of Philosophy honoris causa by the Hebrew University (2008), and the EMET Prize in the category of Arts and Culture (2009). Naharin has also been the recipient of the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the French government (1998), two New York Dance and Performance (Bessie) Awards (for Naharin’s Virus at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 2002 and for Anaphaza at the Lincoln Center Festival in 2003), the Samuel H. Scripps American Dance Festival Award for Lifetime Achievement (2009), and a Dance Magazine Award (2009).

The program offers 25 classes per week in ballet, pointe/pre-pointe, modern, contemporary, open classes in various styles, and repertory from master choreographers to demonstrate the participants’ amplified understanding of technique, movement, and performance skills in a fully produced performance presented at Peridance's in-house Salvatore Capezio Theater at the culmination of the Intensive.

This two-year Program is designed for serious dance students who want to invest in an intensive collegiate-level training program. Our renowned faculty and comprehensive curriculum prepares students to be technically accomplished, versatile, and fully equipped to be successful in the professional dance world. The program offers two tracks: Ballet/Contemporary - to prepare students for work with major dance companies and the concert stage, and Commercial - to prepare students for careers on Broadway and in commercial dance. The curriculum includes a minimum of three classes per day, five days a week, emphasizes personal attention and mentoring in order to nurture each student's full potential, and fosters extensive knowledge of the chosen dance track. Performance skills are honed through numerous performance opportunities, seminars, and workshops. The Program is open to both Domestic and International students.

Michal Sayfan was born in Israel in 1983 and was raised in Rishon Lezion. A graduate of Nadine Bommer’s dance school and company, she danced in the Batsheva Ensemble from 2005-2008 and joined the Batsheva Dance Company in 2008.
Michal has taught Gaga since 2006.

Solo dancer, assistant choreographer, choreographer, teacher modern.

In 1973 she began studying ballet at the School of Loredana Furno and at twelve, she entered to the training school of the Teatro Nuovo Company in Turin.

Her spirit of research and passion for studying push her abroad to the United States in New York, where she earned a scholarship for all life, but also in France and Austria.

She reguarly teaches in Turin c/o NOD space and she periodically collaborates with the dance center "AREA DANCE" in Milan as modern dance teacher .
