Prayers for Oklahoma

Take a few moments out of your day to send prayers to the victims and families of the victims of the tragic mile-wide tornado that hit Oklahoma today. So many innocent lives were lost and homes destroyed.

Although I live in California now, I grew up with Tornado drills and warnings in Texas and even experienced a small one with my family which traveled over the DFW airport last year. So this natural disaster hits close to home for me. Please reach out to your local Red Cross, Salvation Army and church to donate clothing, household items and money to those who lost everything.

After my ideabook was already published I saw this adorable play tent "Preppy Playhouse" in Pottery Barn Kids and had to share it with you all. I showed it to my four year old son and he said he even wanted it! Pretty darn cute!

Quadro Rug

I saw this Quadro rug last week at CB2 in Santa Monica and thought it was a great piece for a tween bedroom or a playroom. Graphic sophisticated style with playful childish color.

Turns out the editors at Lonny liked it too as it is featured this month in their Scout guide.

Seriously, how amazing are these new surface skins from Blik? Apply them to any smooth surface to create a dynamic art piece. I can't wait to use the Homage (above) for a kids art table.

Or the Guache is pretty spectacular too! I wonder if it would work on my West Elm Parson's desk?

Brand New Chandeliers on Close Out

I've got some great deals for you all in the next few weeks. I'm cleaning out my storage until with items that are brand new, never used and need to be moved out. These are all pieces that were ordered for client projects that didn't work out and I would rather sell them to you all than pay the restocking fee to return them as they are all in great never used condition.

First on the list: A Smokey Glass Chandelier by Currey & Co.
Dimensions: 31" rd x 28" high
Basically a murano lookalike for a fraction of the price. It is made of blown glass with sophisticated curves and a nickel finish. A perfect piece for a bedroom with tall ceilings, a dining room or in an entry way that needs a little glamour. The piece retails for $900 but we are selling it for $500 plus the cost of shipping unless you want to pick it up in Manhattan Beach! It is still in its box in original packaging so basically brand new!

Second on the List: A Rustic Industrial-inspired Cage Pendant by Noir

An engaging piece great for a boy's room or for your entry hall as long as you have high ceilings. I'd also like to see it used as an outdoor light under a patio. It is made out of an iron metal with a rubbed bronze finish. This piece has also never been used and is in new condition. It retails for $500 but we are selling it for $300 plus shipping unless you can pick it up in Manhattan Beach.

Ok those are the only lights I have at the moment, both great buys and unique pieces which would work in many areas of the home.

I always found myself (with my second child) wearing the organic Aiden and Anais swaddle blankets as a last minute scarf and these are even cuter and a little more subtle!

New Paper Mache from Dwell Studio

I love this new Paper Mache Deer Head from Dwell Studio. The deer actually looks sweet especially with the little yellow bird sitting on the antlers.

It is currently out of stock but you can put your name on the wait list for when it becomes available.

Kids Rooms in the March Issue of Lonny Magazines

I always find the time to read the monthly on-line issue of Lonny. This March issue holds a special place in my heart because they have decided to feature some wonderful children's rooms and products this month.

My favorite child's room in the issue is the playroom in Connecticut designed by Lisa Sherry of Lisa Sherry Interiors. The bunk room is pretty spectacular too!

Luckily we also got a glimpse at a second bunk room designed by designer Jennifer Jansch.

Don't you love the grey privacy curtains with tape trim?

The older daughter has a more sophisticated grey version of a bunk nook placed perfectly under a pitched ceiling.

Perfectly Pink Nursery

As promised here is the first batch of new room photos. This is a precious pink nursery in Manhattan Beach. The nursery belongs to a second daughter for the family so we used the furniture from the first child but spruced up the room with new bedding, accessories, rug, window treatments and a personalized painted mural. I think "precious" pretty much summarizes this room.

Personal Updates and Sneak Peeks

So I guess it is time for some personal updates! I've been pretty busy the past few months working on some wonderful projects. Most of them are full service clients and I've actually even been working on more living spaces and full homes than anything. But I have a few projects from the end of last year that I finally got around to getting photographed so I'll be sharing those with you in the next two weeks. I have about six more that need to be photographed in April and am dying to share those with you!

But on a more personal level I'm 21 weeks pregnant! Yup! #3 will be here in July! (Here I am all dolled up for a wedding in Sea Island, GA a few weeks ago, belly in full glory.)

We are over the moon with joy and nervous about the new challenges of changing to a household of 5! But I feel great and have had a relatively easy pregnancy so far. So my busy work schedule and personal family addition have sadly taken time away from this blog. But if you need inspiration between blog posts I'm constantly posting current projects on Instagram like the bunk room below which is almost completed. (You can find me under andrikaso) and on Pinterest.

And don't forget that I write bi-monthly posts on Project Nursery such as my High vs Low last week on Project Nursery on Round Leather Mirrors, and monthly product ideabooks on Houzz.

Nursery Design Featured on People.com

I'm so excited to be included in one of the nursery designs featured on Project Nursery's post on People.com today.

The nursery featured showcases one of our favorite wallpapers - Globetrotter by Clarke & Clarke as well as some custom bedding by New Arrivals Inc.

A very talented fellow designer and friend from college Liz Carroll Interiors's nursery design was also featured.

A Winning Combo - Pink & Purple

If a little girl between the ages of 3-8 is giving me input on the colors that she wants for her room I almost always hear purple first then pink as a close second. Since I generally don't like to design children's rooms in a single tone, why not combine the winning combination of pink and purple? I used to steer away from purple as all the products out there were too bright or dark but now vendors have jumped on the purple bandwagon and are creating some wonderful products. My ideabook feature on Houzz this month highlights this combination.

Not Just Kids Anymore!

Well it is time I let you all in on something that few of you know...we here at Andrika King Design also design full houses. My lack of posts this year is due to my over-booked client load and growing family - but some of my big projects are starting to wrap up and I can't wait to share the photos.

Here is a room in Manhattan Beach which was completed a few months ago, I'm just getting around to downloading the photos from my wonderful photographer Liz Lonkey from Life Iz Photography.

As in most homes, the master bedroom was one of the last room on the list for this family to complete in their nantucket-style home. Everything else seems to come first. Since they were expecting their third child, I wanted to create a calming environment where they could get away and relax from the daily duties of raising a family.

We kept family antique dressers and side tables but the rest of the items in the room were new additions from the grasscloth wallcovering to the the custom built-in bookshelves and upholstery. The family has three boys so we added slight feminine touch to this room with some floral fabrics on the windows, euro shams and bedskirt.

I love the way this room turned out. The only item missing in this room is a rug. The family wasn't ready to pull the trigger on it yet but I'd like to put a natural jute design in...possibly something like this diamond sisal?

Furniture For Sale

I'm sure that you all have seen this gorgeous photo on my blog or on Pinterest at some point. Well I am now working on this room to convert it to fit three and not just two boys. I'm so excited to be working on my first official bunk room! So sadly this custom built bed system must be sold. It is only 5 years old and is still in great condition.

The whole combination includes:

two platform twin beds with deep storage drawers underneath
one square corner unit (pictured) which has an elevated top to display kids collections and it also has two secret hatches that pull up where each child can store their books, iPhones...etc during the night or when not in use.
one end-of-bed dresser with three drawers to match 45" wide, 30"tall, which is actually at the end of the platform bed on the left
one small 12" wide by 45" deep x 30" tall end table with three drawers at the end of the bed on the right.

We are not willing to ship this unit and part of the reasonable selling price includes you coming to pick it up. The client is asking $3000 for the 5 piece set. Well the ladies at Sissy and Marley have done it again - they have created a calming, sophisticated nursery that could compliment almost any decor. The soft neutral tones makes it a perfect design for the parent who wants their nursery to seamlessly blend with their home or is a wonderful alternative for the parents who want to keep the gender of their baby a surprise!

The giraffe seems to rule the roost in this design and I love how he is repeated subtly in almost every space. And who doesn't love those baby animal prints by Sharon Montrose? The crib is the Sleepi by Stokke and you can't miss the Eames style rocker. Little Finn is a lucky baby!
