The Honor Society of Nursing Elects New Board Members

Nov. 12, 2009 - Karen H. Morin, RN, DSN, ANEF, begins her term as the 28th president of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI). Morin will lead the 130,000-member, global organization for the next two years and calls on members to connect through knowledge for global health. She plans to actively resume the work undertaken during the 2007-2009 biennium and continue to move towards achieving STTI’s Vision 2020 goals for a more global society.

A Veterans Day Tribute to Nurses Who Served and Those Who Serve Others

Nov. 11, 2009 - Across the country, Americans are paying tribute to military veterans for their valiant and dedicated service. Increasingly, nurses are being honored—some traditionally, like the 10 veterans of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps who trained at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind., during World War II, who will host their local Veterans Day Parade. Others are being honored in less traditional ways.

First Forensic Nurses Week Highlights the Problems of Violence

Nov. 9. 2009 - “Violence is a Health Care Problem” is the theme of the first Forensic Nurses Week, taking place November 9-13, 2009. This week, which is expected to become an annual event, was created to honor and celebrate forensic nurses. This year’s theme reflects data showing that up to 37.5 percent of health care costs may be the result of violence, and research such as the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study that found a strong correlation between childhood experiences of violence and adult health problems such as diabetes and tobacco addiction.
