Fiber can bind, that is some of its purpose. For mom I would do first thing in the morning and just before bed and then some time in between, so that not every dose is with food. As for making meds less effective, if you have been taking things a certain way and the med is working whatever way we need it to do, then the amount taken has been adjusted around how she has been taking it. As an example if something says take on an empty stomach and the person has been taking with food and their tests show fine, then I do not necessarily change the person to empty stomach since we will most likely get a very different effect if they take on an empty stomach.

Q. I am a 30 year old female who has been suffering from hair loss for the past 5-6 months. I have been to multiple doctors who have told me that it’s nothing more than telogen effluvian.

OUR RESPONSE:
Hair issues can come from a number of different directions, but the first approach always is the same. The hair follicle requires a few necessary things to grow properly. First a high potency B-complex, look for a something that has B-6 over 30mg, this can be done once to twice daily. Now you need Biotin at about 5000mcg (5mg) daily. Next you need to add in essential fats. Omega 3’s, fish oil or flaxseed. On the fish oil I recommend that you work up to a nice high EPA to DHA ratio. So look to an EPA>1000mg and DHA>750mg. Now it is important to make sure that protein is solid in your diet, the hair also needs protein. Healthy proteins are necessary for a lot of tissue health in the body so if you have any digestive issues that may change how you breakdown protein then we may need to look at that. What I want to see is that hair lose stops or dramatically slows, then see the hair start to regrow. Other places to look at for the hair is thyroid and kidney health. You may be passing most medical tests as far as these systems go, but it does not mean they may be feeling some fatigue. So I have my clients track basal body temp and pH of urine. We can work further into these concepts if you need, otherwise we would love to see you attend our Ultimate Nutrition to learn about this further. The class is free and we offer it once a month. Check our website for dates and times.

OUR RESPONSE:
Hopefully they have talked to you in great detail about food choices that you will need to follow, since this can be a part of this lose. Protein is essential for hair follicle health, so gastric bypass really effects how you digest and break down protein, so you will need to look at a protein powder and use this on a daily basis to maintain protein status. With this protein, the follicle will need biotin, b-vitamins (you will need to do B-12 separately as an under the tongue lozenge, since your B-12 breakdown will be changed) and omega 3’s (preferably fish oil, since digestion of fats is also compromised with gastric bypass so flaxseed breakdown will be difficult). I recommend Biotin Forte from Integrative Therapeutics, since this is Biotin and B vitamins together and it is a high potency. A B-12 of at least 1000mcg daily dissolved under the tongue, not only is this important for the body, but great for metabolism. A fish oil with Vitamin D would also be great and I would recommend a fish oil with an EPA>1200mg and a DHA>900mg. The vitamin D will be helpful to the thyroid and since this system can show hair lose if compromised the D will help here. I am a big believer in strong, health organs of elimination, kidney, liver, gastro-intestinal tract, and when one is compromised the other two will have to take on more work. Another place where hair health is seen is in the kidneys, so if the above options do not do all we need them to do, then we will need to look further. Good Luck.

OUR RESPONSE:
There are so many options for ADD issues. We need to always look at the basics. First Omega 3’s and a solid Multi high in B’s as well as a diet that is high in healthy proteins (these are needed for neurotransmitter health). During the winter the basics include things like Vitamin D. If we balance the basics and we are still having issues then we can help relieve this with products like L-Theanine and/or 5-HTP. L-Theanine is great to slow a racing brain without sedating. I recommend this in people who get stuck trying to solve the world’s problems in the middle of the night as well as when the brain is jumping from one thing to another so fast that a single task cannot get finished. 5-HTP gives the body a needed serotonin boost, and with Serotonin being your feel good neurotransmitter, improving this can give you a much needed sense of wellbeing. Since diet plays such a part in this issue I would highly recommend that you attend some of our cooking classes and even starting with our ultimate nutrition you could stand to learn a lot about food, variety and changes that may benefit this issue. Everything that I have suggested currently we can apply to either kids or adults we just need to adjust dosing, so let us know if we can work with you further on this.

OUR RESPONSE:
As I am always prone to recommending with most anything, we have to make sure the basics are covered, Vitamins, Minerals, good Fats and possible diet changes. Since the Omega 3’s are so essential to hormone health we need to make sure that you are covering with a nice high EPA to DHA ratio. It is also essential to have specific nutrition products that benefit the uterus. I would recommend Multi-Pollen, and herbs like Red Raspberry Leaves. We can cover this with 2 products, Fem PMS and Multi-Pollen. I would recommend 1 twice daily of each for minimum of 3 months to bring the best health to the uterus. We also may want to consider a two week cleanse and combine it with hormone cleansing at the same time. As for diet changing I would like to have you look at pH and blood type concepts to see how you feel and what we can do to remove any aggravating food factors (Caffeine is one very aggravating factor, soda, coffee, or black tea). If you want to start with supplements then I would cover with the above and realize that if this starts to work then fails we have some diet changes that we need to make. Let us know if we can help you further.

OUR RESPONSE:
I am thrilled that you are thinking about this before you are in the throes of an intense change. Working now should lessen this intensity. Always start with the basics, solid high potency multi, omega 3’s, and choose great healthy variety in your diet. Not only do the Omega 3’s help with hormone production, but hormone metabolism (which means function), and then hormone elimination. I want you to make sure that the Fish Oil amounts that you are using stay high, so look for a fish oil with an EPA>1000mg and a DHA>750mg. As for the multi we want solid mineral content and high B vitamin content. I would recommend that you use a multi like Clinical Nutrients for Women which would fit what you need. I want to make sure that you are not prone to constipation. This needs to be corrected before we go any further (of course if you are prone to the other direction I need to know this also). As for any separate nutrients that I would recommend, if you live here in Wisconsin, then I would recommend that you make sure that you are taking Vitamin D3 and I would recommend this time of year that you keep your dosing at 4000iu daily. If you follow this and you feel great, solid energy and mood, no aches or pains, not getting sick frequently, and no sleep problems then we are on the right track, but if other things still plague you then we need to address those soon.

OUR RESPONSE: I would start with a few things, first make sure that she is doing Vitamin D and Omega 3’s and then we really need to hit her immune system. I would recommend Astragalus, we will use this in viral warts also so the cross-over for molluscum will work just as well. As for dosing on the Astragalus regardless of age I would recommend 3 capsules twice daily. As for Vitamin D and Omega 3’s I would dose based on age and weight, so if you want to stop in we can discuss what dose would be most appropriate. The last thing to add in would be a probiotic. I would recommend Orthobiotic once daily preferably at bedtime. There is huge immunity in the intestinal tract so we need to keep that strong and if it is slightly off we can see issues in the skin. Let me know how it is going and if we need to address something further then we can do so.

OUR RESPONSE: With a vast majority of medical and even nutritional individuals all getting scared of soy, I suggest you really dig into what Asian cultures do with soy and do as they do. I always tell my clients that billions of Asians people cannot be wrong about this plant. So with this said, you need to do soy always, always, always non-GMO or organic! With over 80% of the US Soy GM we have a serious issue with what we have done to the soy plant and have changed its properties and thus how the human body reacts when presented with it. I suggest the chapter in “Food Revolution” by Robbins entitled Frankensoy if you want to get a heads up on what happens in this country with soy. Also if you choose soy, look to sprouted tofu, miso and tempeh or even natto if you can find it as non-GMO or organic and learn how to use a variety of fermented soy food products to implement in your diet. Our cooking classes we keep very focused on vegetarian ideas, not for vegetarians at the class, but just to help people try different foods that they normally would not. We would love to see you there, just check out our website for dates and times.

OUR RESPONSE: Prostatitis is an inflammation in the prostate for men. This inflammation can lead to an increase in infection, since the prostate helps prevent infection in men when this is an issue infection is possible. As for other issues the inflammation can cause urination issues, frequent urination, up 2-4 times at night, or just extremely frequent during the day. The other very common issue is that it takes a lot longer than normal time to get urine to flow. So he may stand there and it will take way too long to start. This can be helped by a number of things, such as pumpkin seed oil and saw palmetto just to name a few. I would recommend that you have a Dr. address this to check his PSA to make sure that there is not a bigger issue.

Thanks for the great question.
