Our friends over at NOW Magazine had a busy time with the festival. While they hosted an insane Thursday night showcase at the Horseshoe (with Dan Deacon, Merchandise, DIANA, Nu Sensae, + more) and threw Sunday’s huge hip hop bill at YDS, they also covered a whole lot of what went on.

Thanks to some of the best people in Toronto – the people that help make NXNE function. While we’ve thanked a lot of people, our volunteers deserve a good chunk of the high-fives for all their early mornings, late nights, and making everything happen. We appreciate you and hope you enjoyed yourselves. Thank you, really.

Come out and let us thank you in person – the NXNE Volunteer Party happens Sunday, June 23rd from 6 to 9 pm at The Garrison. We’ll have food, drinks, DJs, prizes, and special guests. In other words, all the makings of a good time and it’s just a small token of our gratitude for all that hard work. If you volunteered during NXNE 2013, we hope to see you there.

What a year. Whether you favoured the sweaty late-night music venues or preferred being bright-eyed and bushy tailed for a morning Interactive panel (or, somehow, both) – NXNE wants to thank you. Thanks for coming out in record numbers, thanks for making Toronto feel alive, and thank you for NXNE 2013.

A lot of thanking is in order… Thanks to the bands, the artists, the filmmakers, the panelists/presenters, the comics, the artists, the delegates, our sponsors, our fantastic (fantastic) volunteers, and our pretty okay staff (okay, they’re fantastic too.) But most of all, thank you to the fans.

This was the best NXNE ever – a bold statement, but one we firmly believe.

But before you start counting down the days until NXNE 2014 – stay tuned. We’ve got plenty of videos & photos & wrap-ups to help you relive the insanity of 1000 bands, 30 films, 150 comedians, 65 panels/presentations, and 60 artists.

• Hip hop. Lots of hip hop. Yonge-Dundas Square is going to pack in the rhymes and rap-fans with the perfect way to celebrate father’s day: this ridiculous (/Ludacris) lineup.

• 3:30 pm – Lots of funny at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema. Laugh Sabbath brings hilarious shorts. Go. Laugh.
• 6:30 pm – Yuk Yuk’s Mark Breslin journeys across the world with six comedians in A Universal Language. Once again at Bloor Hot Docs Cinema.

Comedy

• 8:00 pm – The Sketchersons do Sunday Night Live at the Comedy Bar. Bring clean underwear.
• 8:00 pm – Donnell Rawlings takes to the Danforth Music Hall. Less music, more comedy, big funny. (Lottery Series)
• 8:00 pm – Dylan Moran does Yeah Yeah at the Panasonic Theatre. It’s a sold out show – so hopefully you got your tickets via the Lottery Series.

Art

• 9:00 am to 5:00 pm – Everybody’s working for the weekend. Bertha Lee and Akash Bansal do It’s Been Filed at the #Hashtag Gallery.
• 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm – The Art Fair takes its second day takeover at the Ryerson Quad. Go take in art and performances from local and international talent.
• 2:00 pm – Emma Kate Guimond performs Better Judgement on the AGO steps.
• At every music venue, keep an eye out for EQU∆L∆TER∆L’s For a Good Time Call… And then call.

Other

For the seventh year, NXNE is thrilled to be putting the boot in with our annual charity football match. Yes, PUT THE BOOT IN returns for another of The Rockers versus The Rollers. Some of your favourite Canadian musicians lace up their cleats and hit the field in an effort to best last year’s media champs. They’re all in it for the glory of hoisting up the coveted Queen and Beaver Cup.

There’s also a kids’ scrimmage for children 13 years and under + an on-site raffle.

It’s all for a good cause, too. Proceeds benefit Right To Play, a charity whose mission is to improve the lives of children around the world by using the power of sport and play for development, health, and peace.

Head down to Lamport Stadium (1151 King St. West) on Sunday, June 16th.

Doors are at 12:00 pm, the kids’ game gets the ball rolling at 12:30 pm, and The Rockers and The Rollers kick things off at 1:30 pm.

Admission is PWYC and donations are welcome.
