Philadelphia, PA (Sunday, October 21 2012) – First year head coach, Latia Deylii was named The Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year at yesterday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Cross Country Championships. Looking back at Coach Deylii’s athletic achievements as an undergrad, it is not a surprise that the CACC Coach of the Year award would fall into her hands.

The Nyack Running Warriors have gone through a season of transition and change. Not only is this Coach Deylii’s first year taking over the program, but it is also the first year that eight new runners have been brought in to join the team at one time (six freshman, a recruited transfer student, and one walk-on). A shift in team chemistry was certainly a challenge, but as always the Lady Warriors found a way to prevail. Overall Coach Deylii says, “The women's season went well. It was not by any means our best, but it was solid enough."

During the award ceremony at the CACC Championships, the Nyack Women’s and Men’s Cross-Country Team went into complete hysterics as their coach was called for the Coach of the Year. Coach Deylii was in complete surprise as her runners pushed her towards the award. When asked how she felt about receiving the award during her first year, she replied: “When they announced my name, I was completely shocked! There was a lot put into transforming this team. It is still being transformed as we speak, so I did not think it would be noticed and respected until we actually proved ourselves capable of bringing home a banner."

Latia Deylii is the prime example of what a coach looks like. This year alone she has conquered the transition of becoming head coach, brought up a committed group of returning & new runners for this season, and effectively dealt with guiding her team through unexpected obstacles. Thankfully, Deylli has also had the helping hand of her assistant coach, Coach Sarah Sauer, who has now made her mark for the 4th year working with NCXC.

Although, the Nyack Running Warriors did not take home the championship, they walk in the steps of a champion herself. Coach Deylii states, “I can't tell you what an honor it is to be recognized like this by the CACC. I am young and I am new. Just three years ago I was competing in this amazing conference looking up to other teams and the talented coaches who lead them. To fathom now how these well known leaders have recognized the dedication, respect the growth, and appreciate what we're working towards so early on in my coaching career means more than I can describe."

All of the CACC head coaches were sent out a voting poll and casted their votes to the conference office along with evaluations from the CACC comissioners & the NCAA. With Coach Deylii’s leadership and motivation, it is clear the Nyack Lady Warriors (as well as the men) will be teams to keep an eye on for next season.
