Geometric Diamond Wall Art

I have been seeing a lot of geometric diamonds lately and I have been loving them! I decided that I wanted to do some as wall art seeing as some of my walls are pretty bare. I knew I wanted them to be metallic and the background to be a gradient.

I started with looking at line drawings of diamonds and drawing some out myself to get a feel of the shapes and patterns, and to see what I liked best.

I decided I liked these longer pointed diamond shapes best.

I then started taping off my diamond with very thin washi tape. ( you could also use thin painters tape) On a stretched canvas. I used a ruler to measure out my pieces of tape so that they would have some uniformity and so that the diamond wouldn't look to wonky. It took a little trial and to get just the right angle for the tape at the top. Also be aware that the thin tape will curve easily, which wasn't the look I was going for with a linear shape.

i then added some more diamonds in different sizes in different directions that made them look like they were falling.

When I was done taping I want in with an exacto knife to sharpen the lines where the tape met. Just be careful to use light pressure so you don't cut through the canvas.

Next paint over the canvas and diamonds. I decided on a gradient ombre look. First p put down some matte medium on about half the canvas this made it easier to blend the gradient. while the matte medium was still wet p started with my lightest color and gradually started adding my next lighter color making sure to blend then well. I kept working down to my darker color. I kept working the canvas until I got a gradient that i liked. I washed my brush between going from dark to light as to not muddy the colors

while the paint was still a bit wet i Peeled the tape up, I didn't want to risk it drying and having chunks of paint coming up with it. You will have some paint seep under the tape don't worry it will get covered up. I let the piece dry completely, well lets be honest I used a heat gun to help it along. I'm really impatient when it come to paint drying. But you do want it to be completely dry before the next step.

Next step is to make our diamonds shine! First taker a dryer sheet and rub it all over your canvas. Trust me you'll be happy you did, it helps the embossing powder from static clinging where you don't want it. I used the liquid from my embossing dabber and a square topped paintbrush about the size of my lines to paint the glue on. I worked in small sections painting the lines in with the embossing liquid. then sprinkle the embossing powder over the lines you painted and dump off the excess. if There is powder sticking to the canvas where you didn't paint the embossing liquid you van gently wipe it off with a clean dry paint brush. Then heat the embossing powder on the canvas and watch the magic happen!

keep gong filling in the rest of the lines, and don't be afraid to go back in the the embossing if its a little splotchy.

I got to this point and thought it was a little sparse. So I went in and added some random polka dots. This time I used gold paint and the end of a foam brush to dot. You could paint your diamonds with gold paint but I like how metallic the embossing was and the raised up effect it had. You can see in the finished picture that the gold paint doesn't have quite the same sheen as the embossing powder does.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Review

First off the formulas is extremely thin! This is just after one coat the color barely shows. In the bottle the color looks like its really opaque but when applied its not.

This is after a second coat. still fairly sheer. It also applied very streaky, most likely because of the thin formula.

After a third coat it was opaque enough for me yet the coverage was still streaky. I did however like the wider flat brush in the polish which made the application faster. The dry time on this polish is awful. It took almost an hour to dry and even after that a small bump left a gouge in the polish. A problem that occurs when you have to do many coats. The polish does have nice shine which lasts quite a while.

after 7 days

At first the polish seemed like it might hold up well. At about day 3&4 the polish was pretty well intact. The shine lasted well even in the 7th day the shine was quite good. The chip resistance however, does not quite hold up to the 10 days they claim you can get with it. By day 7 some nails were half chipped off and badly chipped around the edges and tips of nails.

All in all if feel that there are better nail polishes out there with much better formulas even Sally Hansen's other nail polishes have better formulas. With the sheer coverage and long dry time the Complete Salon Manicure would not be worth the buy for me.

Behold! My newest obsession, Wreck This Journal. So last week I was going through my YouTube feed and Bunny a.k.a grav3yardgirl had started a new series where she started a Wreck This Journal and by the end I was intrigued and hooked! I wanted to play to so off to amazon I went to order one.

I bet your probably wondering what the heck is a Wreck This journal? Basically its a Journal/art-journal with prompts. Like create a continuous line, and page of good thoughts. It also has prompts that get you to think out of the box, leave your comfort zone, like stand on this page and jump up and down. It reminds me a lot of the type of projects or exercises they would have us do in art school. Its the kind of thing that anyone could go with any artistic level.

I love the list of materials. It lets you know that art materials are not just limited to pencils and paint. One of the first things the Journal has you do is number your pages to which I had a bit of fun with.... until page 50 or so and I just gave up.

I think this is one of my favorite pages. Stand here! Yes it asks you to stand on the journal. I told you it get you out side the box. I had so much fun with this that I had lots of people at work stand in my journal too. I'm pretty sure everyone had fun standing in a book.

Spill your coffee. This one I had on the counter while I made my coffee this morning, I tend to make messes but hey that's the point finding art in mistakes and accidents. I think I'll go back and make my coffee on top of this for a while and see what happens. That's whats fun is you can keep working pages till your happy with them. Part of the instructions is to carry this with you everywhere you go, and experiment go against you better judgement. Lets face it standing in a book or using it as a coaster is against most everyone's better judgement.

Instructions are open to interpretation. Yes they are not one hole poked in the "guide" line

I even got the pup involved with hand prints.

This is an other page I love. I smeared curry all over this page which is one of my favorite smells. now my journal smells like fresh book and curry!

How fun. The back cover prompts you to mail your journal to yourself. I almost wish I had someone over seas to mail it to to mail back to me. How fun would it be if it were adorned with foreign postage?

I'm so excited to keep going and see what other odd things it's going to have me do with it.

I have been in love with the whole Trouble album since it came out this summer. If your someone who misses the early days of Lady GaGa I suggest Natalia Kills to fill that void.

The Civil Wars, Devils Backbone

I love this song for the hints of county and blue grass but its not bombarding you with twangy I got my pickup truck and my girl just left me. God knows I can't stand the twangy red necks. They have incredible and beautiful voices.

Fall Out Boy, Alone Together

Well I never thought there would be a day where I would be saying I like fallout Boy. I guess never say never because I love their latest album. I'm not quite sure what drew me to it but I do appreciate that the lead singer has gotten better on his enunciation! This is one that I have been jamming out to for months now.

Back From The Wayside

Mint Cupcake 2D pop out painting 8x11

Well its been some time since I've posted anything on her. a good 10 months to be exact.Sometimes life just gets in the way and things inevitably fall to the wayside. Work in the baker got pretty hectic over the past year and at points I felt like a one man army. I ended up getting a full time position and then my overworked cake decorating are just burned out. Ive been on light duty since the end of August and most of that time my arm was either in too numb or in to much pain to do much of anything. Recently though it's been feeling much better, I can finally see the light at the end of this tunnel.

I've been able to make art again, finally I've missed painting and my art journal. Funny enough since I haven't been able to make cakes in the past few month they have become my subject matter. You know you love and miss something when you start making paintings about it!

I recently opened up and etsy shop to sell my paintings and artwork. Ive always been someone who makes art for themselves but there is only so much one can hoard in a small apartments. If its something you love to do why not get paid to do it. I make the things that I love and I'm proud of and hopefully someone loves them as much as I do.

Back when I started this blog back in 2011 my intent was that it was to be a beauty blog. Sure Ive had the occasional music love sharing and artjournaling, I want this to be a place where I can share all my interests. I know that I've grown as a person since 2011 so why shouldn't the blog

Revlon lipstick in Primrose is a nude/baby doll pink cream. I love it for everyday wear. It's one of my favorites because at the time I got it I was reading the Hunger Games books and loved the fact that it had the same name as Katniss's sitter... Primrose, which was the reason I bought it. Yeah things like that suck me in.

Wow had way through 28 Days Of Kisses. Who knew I had this many lipsticks! I never actually counted them and I'm pretty sure I'll have enough to finish off the month.

28 Days of Kisses (Day 13 Wet n' Wild Matte Lipstick 965 Cherry Picking)

Wet n' Wild Matte Lipstick 965 Cherry Picking is a bright pinky red. I have been really into matte's lately. I do find the Wet n' Wild matte lipsticks a bit difficult to apply. they tend to need more pressure than regular lipsticks to get the color on and drag ab bit when swiping them on. They do however have pretty good staying power.

To start this color is neither Pink nor Frosty! It's more of a sheer raisin color with a bit of shimmer. It's a lot more intimidating in the tube than when actually applied. It's a good everyday kind of color for the fall & winter because of it's sheerness.

This is one of my favorite fall lipsticks. Black Cherry describes the color perfectly. One of the reasons I like it so much is you can wear it a couple ways. You can wear it full on applied heavily and get a nice dark vampie lip or just dab it on for a flush of sheer color.

Famous is a U.K brand. i had gotten this lipstick in a swap last year. It's such a fun experience to do a swap. You get to make new friends and try things you would never be able to try. I love the packaging on this lipstick. it's square and the end has a little fabric pull tab. It's a really creamy lipstick with great pigmentation.

Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie, Dare Devil is a shimmery sheer plum color. Quite possibly one of the weirdest lip glosses I have tried. It smells like Circus Peanuts candy... exactly! Then after a few moments of wearing it, it starts to tingle on the lips.

28 Oays Of Kisses (Day 8 NYX Round Lipstick Vitamin)

I had received this lipstick in a glam bag some months back and at first I wasn't sure if I would like the color because it seemed so shimmery and I'm not usually a fan of shimmery glittery lipsticks. Turned out I love it. It's more of a metallic sheen than glitter. It goes on supper smooth. I love the consistency of it smooth and creamy feeling.

28 Days Of Kisses (Day 7,Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar, Tone)

So with this big snow storm work has been crazy for the past few days so I'm a little behind on my kisses. Working in a grocery store before a big storm you see just how crazy people are.

This just about sums it up!

However there is nothing like two days off and being snowed in to catch up.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Tone. This is one of those colors I like to use when I do a really dark or colorful eye and I want to basically block my lips out. It's an extremely light flesh toned pink. It's also good for toning down bright vibrant colors.

I do find though with this color that it will tend to settle in the cracks and lines in the lip so a good lip scrub before using it is important.

Maybelline Master Duo 2 in 1 Gloss Liquid Liner(Navy Gleam 520) REVIEW

Maybelline Master Duo 2 in 1 Gloss Liquid Liner is a liquid liner with a glossy finish. The applicator has two sides one to make a thick line and the other makes a thicker line. They come in 6 colors, Black, Purple, Navy Blue, Teal, Green, and Bronze.


Top one coat, Bottom two coats.

Things I liked about the liner were the dual sided applicator. The thin side was good for going across the lash line and the thicker side was good for filling in a wing. At first I was really iffy about the consistency of the liner it applied very thing and needed 2 coats but after a few times of using it and the air getting to it it seemed to thicken up and I only had to use one coat to get a good dark opaque line. The wear on these is amazing. I can go all day and they won't smudge or budge. In fact the swatches on my arm lasted for 3 days trough showers and washing dishes at work before I finally scrubbed them off. Don't worry though it comes off real easy with eye makeup remover.

They reminded me a lot of the formula of the Urban Decay 24/7 liquid liners. So if your looking for an inexpensive dupe these will due quite well.

28 Days Of Kisses (Day 6 Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids 865 Fuchsia Flash) & Review

This is a new lipstick for me. It's from the Maybelline Vivid's line the has recently come out, which is a collection of extremely bright colors. Fuchsia Flash is a supper bright neon pink. The texture wasn't quite as creamy as I was expecting I found I needed two coats to get it to be that bright opaque neon. It feels nice on the lips with a glossy cream finish. I did find like with a lot of bright pinks it does stain the lips. I think it's going to be a great fun color for spring.

I'm a day late and a dollar short on this one. Yesterday was a no time for any makeup as I headed strait out the door for work. I really love and use the snooze button way too much. On days like that the only thing that eventually makes it on to my face is my all time favorite Watermelon Lip Smacker. I probably have a couple in my bag one in my pocket and several around the house at all times. It has almost no color to it but gives a nice glossy sheen to the lips and is always moisturizing. There is almost no other lip balm that lives up to my Watermelon Lip Smacker.

I had received this lip product back in October in my Ipsy Glam bag. It's a lip-gloss/stain in a true blue based blood red. It's supper pigmented and lasts a really long time. The gloss is not at all sticky and nicely moisturizing. I have to say it's become one of my favorite reds.

I have to say though this color is supper hard to photograph and have it show up true to color. The photo of the wand gives the best representation of the color.

28 Days Of Kisses (Day 3 Revlon Just Bitten Balm Stain, Honey)

So it was one of those days where it was get up for work get dressed and out the door. No time for makeup, coffee is more important at 5:30 a.m. I mine as well call out if I don't have my coffee on the walk in. On days like this I'll grab something like a lip balm or natural color. That's why I like Just Bitten Balm Stain in Honey, it's one of those my lips but better colors. It's moisturizing and the stain lasts a good amount of time which is good thing in the bakery on Supper bowl Sunday. It was crazy today you would of thought it was a holiday or something.

Day 2! Today was a purple Kind of day. Purple eyes purple lips, it's one of my favorite colors. And really I'm just wishing for spring and trying to egg it on with pastel purple.

Rvelon Lip Butter in #060 Gumdrop & Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss # 200 Lilac Pastelle

Today's lips were a mix of Revlon Lip Butter in #060 Gumdrop & Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss # 200 Lilac PastelleI like to add the gloss because it's a bit more opaque than the lip butter. I always thought lilac lips that's weird, and it will make me look dead but turns out I really love how it looks I don't feel like it makes me look dead. Then again I'm always down for the Zombie Apocalypse.

By far my favorite brand of lip products is Revlon. I haven't met a lip product that I don't like from them. I like their lip butters because they give good color pay off and are nicely moisturizing, and their lip gloss is smooth and not at all sticky.

28 Days Of Kisses (Day 1, Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede #005 Muse)

For the month of February I will be participating in 28 Days of Kisses Hosted by Nykki of Nykky-talks-beauty. The idea is you post everyday for 28 days showcasing a different lipstick. This is going to be a challenge for me as lipstick is usually the last thing I think to put on when I do my makeup and if I do remember I always forget to reapply. So it's going to a good way to get use out of my lipsticks. It's also going to be a good way to get back into posting more often. Plus I'll get practice of lip swatches. I have to admit I usually for go them and just swatch on my arm because I have a hard time getting a good lip swatch photo.

Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede #005 Muse

This is a new lipstick from Revlon. Ultimate Suede is a new formula from them. It's supposed to be a long wear matte finish lipstick. This is a new one for me so I'm still formulating my opinions but a full review will be on it's way soon.

Revlon Photoready BB Cream REVIEW

So I did it again, tried yet another American BB cream. At this point I'm sure every company has one. Really the main reason I decided to try it was Revlon was BOGO 1/2 off and I had coupons.

The first thing I noticed that I like was the consistency. It was thick and creamy but didn't leave my skin feeling oily which i loved . The coverage was a bit sheer but evened out my color and discoloration. I had gotten the lightest color and it seemed that starit out of the tube it was a match and right after I put it on it was a match. But not too long after I noticed it had oxidized and gotten darker and orangy on my skin, and when your pasty pale like me the Umpa Loompa look isn't so great. Over all the BB cream was ok, but the oxidizing and getting darker was a deal breaker for me.

After hitting up some photos of swatches online the only colors that I was interested in were Inked in Pink and Electric blue. The silver and gold shades seemed really spotty and grainy glittery.

This collection is describes as being Metallic, but the two shades that I got don't come off as metallic to me they are more of a pearl or a shimmer. The fact that they are not metallic doesn't bother me because they are still really nice shades but if your going to describe a collection as metallic they should be what you say they are.

Like always the shadows are long lasting. I can get a whole days worth of wear out of them with out creasing. The reason I love the Color Tattoo's so much.

75 Eletic Blue

The name of this one is a bit miss leading. This is not at all what I would call an electric blue. It's more of a blackened Navy color, which is what I was looking for. The pigmentation on this one is really good it can be blended out sheer or applied with a bit of a heavenlier hand to be really opaque. I also like this as a navy liner. I have had such a hard time finding a good drugstore navy liner and this has done the trick for me.

55 Inked In Pink

Inked In Pink is a light pink with a frosty pearl finish. I don't normally wear pink on the eyes because it gives a red irritated sick look but this color doesn't do that. I wore this the other day as a winged gel liner and it was a nice light fresh looking spring look. I got the idea from Let's MakeUp's peaches and pink wishing for spring look. I think I'll be rocking that quite a bit this spring.

If you were looking for some shades to pick up from this collection these would be my picks. I think they will lend them selves quite nicely to some spring looks.

FOTD: Deep Primary Colors

My face today was inspired by the colors in my leopard shirt that I got a last week. Normally I'm not much of an animal print person but I thought the colors were really interesting together, Burgundy, Navy Blue and Mustard Yellow. I wasn't sure how well the combo would turn out in an eyeshadow look but I was quite happy with how it turned out.

Here you can see the colors in the shirt.

I did the burgundy and mustard yellow in a transitioning gradient on the lid and somewhat of a cut crease with the navy blue. I didn't want the look to be too blended together so it wouldn't look to muddy.

Holy Grail Products: Concealer

Holy Grail Products we all have them the end all to be all. I wanted to start a series of the my Holy Grail products. The things I can't live without, always go back to or use every day. Sometimes for me a Holy Grail product is a combination of them for the best out come. That is defiantly true for under eye concealer.

with Maybelline, Garnier

These two are my go to for concealing under eye circles. First i will use the Garnier Anti Dark Circle Roller first, I apply it but don't blend it out. Then I use a 2 clicks of the Maybelline Dark Circle Eraser apply that and use the little sponge tip to start to blend out the concealer. I'll also run a bit down the center of my nose and in the center of my forehead for highlight. then with whats left I put a bit around my nose and corners of my lips. Before it has gotten a chance to dry I use a stippling brush to blend it all out.
