The control arm assembly system absorbs road hazards such as potholes and bumps. The control arm assembly keeps the wheels in line with a cars body to control the movement of the wheels. It joins the car's suspension to the structure of the car. Connected via ball joints to the wheels and to the frame by bushings. This system is normally found in the front of vehicles.

The most common control arm assembly replacement signs are listed below.

The steering wheel or vehicle is vibrating while driving

You hear loud banging noises when going over potholes or bumps

The tires are wearing uneven

The steering is less responsive

The wheels are moving or shaking while driving

If you notice any of these signs have your vehicle inspected by a professional.

The control arm assembly keeps the wheels in line with the car's body to control the motion of the wheels. This system is important because it absorbs the bumps and imperfections in the road. Over time the control arm assembly becomes worn or bent. This assembly will normally wear out between 90,000 and 100,000 miles. They wear out faster if you drive over large potholes or are involved in a car accident. Other parts of the assembly may wear out also such as the bushings & ball joints. You should have this inspected every time your suspension is looked at by a professional.

To test the tie rods before replacing the vehicle needs to be on a wheel alignment rack. While the vehicle is raised the tie rods should be at their normal angles and not hanging down. Pushing the tires to the left & right will quickly show if there is any slack in the tie rods. If the outer tie rod has any vertical up/down movement or the inner tie rods have any front/back movement they should be replaced. Inner tie rods sometimes covered by a rubber cover on a rack and pinion steering need to be squeezed to check for any slack. You can grab the outer tie rods by hand and push up and down. You can grab the inner tie rods pushing them front to rear. If any slack is noticed while doing this the tie rod needs to be replaced. Lifting the bottom seal up to expose the stud if any water escapes from the seal such as bubbles or liquid that tie rod end should be replaced. It needs to be replaced because it is showing signs of corrosion. Corrosion signs around the knuckle need to be closely visually inspected. If any sign of corrosion that tie rod end should be replaced.

Tie rods connect the steering linkage to the wheels of a vehicle. Tie rods are similar to small ball joints that allow up, down and rotation of the steering. A tie rod can both turn and pivot while maintaining the connection to the steering and wheels. As a tie rod wears out it develops slack in the ball and socket. A lot of times when your vehicle is out wheel alignment it will have worn out tie rods. You may hear a noise such as a squeak when turning. You may experience a loose feeling in the steering while driving.

Can I Just Leave It?

A tie rod is the link between the driver and the tires. When the rubber seals fail & lubricant is lost debris enter the joint & rust may build up. This destroys the tie rod and a quick pull may cause it to separate. When this happens you lose control of the steering.

When you start the car you notice your tire light flashing for 60 to 90 seconds. After it is done flashing the tire light stays on. This happens when the TPMS tire light system is not working properly. The vehicle needs to have the TPMS system inspected by a professional. If this is happening you will need to manually check your air pressure or have it checked to verify its working properly.

You get in the car in the morning start your car & notice your TPMS tire light is on. Over night the temperature outside is getting colder this causes your tires to lose some pressure. This loss of pressure will trigger your TPMS tire light to go on. When you drive the vehicle the tires warm up from heat generated while driving. This makes the air pressure increase to the correct amount. The increase in pressure turns the TPMS light back off while driving.

What Should I Do?

When the tires are cold and haven't been driven on for at least three hours. Check the tire air pressure & add the recommended amount of PSI. You can find the recommended amount of PSI on the door panel sticker.

That Light!

The main purpose of the tire light (TPMS) is to let you know when the tire pressure is too low. It will also turn on if the tire pressure is too high. Driving on tires with low air pressure is dangerous & can also cause your tires to wear out too soon.

Do I Still Need To Check My Tire Pressure?

TPMS is not a replacement for checking your tire pressure regularly. Like any other technology TPMS may not work as expected at all times. Never rely just on the TPMS light to determine if your tire pressure is correct.

Where Can I Have My Tire Pressure Checked & TPMS Tested?

We can check the pressure in all of your tires for you. If your TPMS light is more than a pressure issue we can also test each TPMS sensor to make sure they are working properly.

Bald Tire On A Vehicle

Before buying tires you should know how many miles a tire will last. how do you know how many miles the tire should be able to last for?

How Not To Do It?
Looking at the tire DOT treadwear rating will not give you the true mileage a tire should last. When looking at this number it is an estimate generated during a tires testing on a closed course loop lap. The tire manufactures get to take part of the data only after 7200 miles and further add to it. This number can be optimistically set too high by a tire manufacture. Only compare the treadwear rating when comparing tires made by the same manufacture.

How To Do It?

Higher treadlife tires come with a manufacture limited mileage warranty. These mileage warranties tell us how long the manufacture believes their tires should last. When comparing tires made by different companies this number is good to use to compare the mileage a tire should get.

Keep In Mind

For tires to last long they need to be taken care of. The vehicle needs to have a good wheel alignment. The tires should be rotated every 6,000-10,000 miles. Tire pressure sensors & computer should be working correctly. Keeping the correct air pressure in your tires will help them last longer.

Help My Brakes Are Making Noise!

When driving you hit the brake pedal and hear a noise. It sounds like grinding metal & you have no idea why. You haven't had the brakes replaced in a while. Where can you go to not get ripped off for a set of brake pads?

WE LOVE BRAKES

Our automotive technicians have years of hands on experience changing & inspecting brakes.

How Much Does It Cost?

The typical brake pad job for most cars looks like this

Labor Per 1 Axle - $60.00

Autozone Duralast Gold Brake Pads - $40.00

Total - $100.00

This would be for a front set of brake pads given that your vehicle fits into the majority of common cars & does not require advanced technical knowledge or tools to do the job.

Do Not Wait For A Grinding Noise

If you wait for any type of grinding or noise the rotors may become warped. This will make your brake job much more expensive. It's more labor adding an additional $20+ to the labor per axle. Rotors on most cars run between $50-$70 per rotor which adds $100 - $140 just in parts to the brake job.

The benefits of tires filled with nitrogen are greater than tires filled with regular air. Regular air when put under pressure is very explosive. Nitrogen is an inert gas (non-flammable). It is a dry air with the oxygen removed. Nitrogen is used in the highest demand in tire applications such as aircraft's, mining, commercial vehicles & professional automotive racing. Nitrogen reduces pressure variations where even small differences in pressure can affect vehicle handling at peak performance speeds.

Which Is The Best?

Regular air can not out perform nitrogen. When it comes to vehicle handling, reduced sidewall permeation, improved tire contact patch, TPMS responsiveness & decreased moisture inside of the wheel. Nitrogen is the clear cut winner.

How Much Should I Pay?

Nitrogen is priced anywhere from $5-$50 per tire depending where you go. We charge $5 per tire with a life-time free refill for the tire originally paid to have filled.

The Buttons Are Doing Nothing

Most of the time when our power window decides to stop working it's a bad moment. Like during a rain storm or while driving down the highway.

Common Causes To The Problem?

Check the fuse for the power window. It may just need to be replaced.

The door switch went bad

The window motor went bad

The window regulator went bad

How To Know Its Not The Fuse Or Door Switch?

Press the button for the window if you can hear a motor humming sound than it's not the window switch or a blown fuse. If you hear nothing than you need to start at the fuse and work your way to the door switch to find the problem.

How Can I Check The Window Motor & Regulator?

We do not recommend doing this on your own. You should bring the vehicle to a professional auto mechanic like our tire shop or somewhere qualified to do the testing for you. That is because taking the door barrier off you can damage plastic clips & pieces that will cause a bigger problem than the window itself.

How Do They Test The Window Motor?

Using a digital volt meter the mechanic will test the current going into the motor. If the current is normal going into the motor than the motor needs to be replaced. However if the current is lower than it should be there is an electrical issue further up the circuit before it reaches the motor.

When Is The Window Regulator Bad?

The window wont go up and down. The window fell inside the door. When using the window its very noisy. The window is going up and down at an angle.

Motor & Regulator Replacement?

It is recommended to do both at the same time. If you are replacing the motor & the door is apart changing out the regulator is easier and should save you money in the future from having to pay the labor to have it pulled apart again.

Reasons Why The Heat May Not Be Working

Low anti-freeze possibly caused by a leak in the cooling system

Bad Thermostat is preventing the engine from warming up

The blower fan is not working properly

The coolant is contaminated and is blocking the heating core from circulating heat correctly.

Where Can I Have It Looked At?

Bring it into the tire shop & our mechanics can test & try to find the cause of your heating problem.

Tire road hazards are anything you run over or hit your tires while driving. Examples of tire road hazards are pot holes, glass, nails, curbs, sharp objects & anything else that comes into contact with your tires.

How Can I Protect My New Tire Purchase?

When buying new tires you can add road hazard to your purchase. Our road hazard offers a free replacement period during the first 33% of the wear. You would pay for the replacement mount & balance and to insurance this new tire.

Insurance VS Manufacture Road Hazard?

Tire manufactures never pay upfront at the counter for road hazard replacement. You start a claim process which requires you to purchase a new replacement tire while the manufacture takes up to 12 weeks to inspect the road hazard and issue a credit. The credit issued by the manufactures is always less than what you paid at the counter originally. When insurance covers your road hazard they pay at the counter during the replacement & you only pay mounting, balancing & new insurance for the tire being replaced.

Instead of bringing home tires & doing all that work. You can give them a Christmas card written from the heart that say's you've purchased them a new set of tires. Keep our business card inside of the card at the bottom or back of the card. They will know where to go to have them installed.

When you buy tires from our local tire shop we take a lot of care in giving you the best possible service we can offer. Utilizing the newest high quality tire machines. Staffing professional tire technicians with years of training & technical experience. Living here on Long Island we spend money in the local community. Whether its hair cuts, groceries or pizza the money is staying here & being spent at mostly small local shops. When given the chance to compete on prices for tires you will see that most of the time our pricing will be better than those found online & the tires can be in the shop faster.

You went on our website nystire.com and found the tire you like. You are ready to make a purchase but you just found the same tire cheaper somewhere else online. Before you buy that tire from another seller online we want a chance to compete.

You will now find a link on each tire listed on our website on the lower left side that say's found it cheaper? Simply click the link on the tire you want to buy. Enter the information such as the lower tire price. Remember to include the total price per tire when the tires are in the shopping cart with all additional costs added in divided by the total number of tires you are buying. Copy the link url bar of the item from the website. Fill out your first name & email address.
