2009 Provisionally Registered Teacher Seminars

NZEI Te Riu Roa has invited those provisionally registered teachers we know about to NZEI seminars that focus specifically on issues that are relevant to people early in their teaching career. The seminars are happening across the country between 11 and 30 June and are supported by employment related education leave (EREL).

The course content is different to that provided by advisers – we focus on the rights and responsibilities of early career teachers and include opportunities to:

- find out more about the collective agreement entitlements
- learn about managing responsibilities within a profession
- develop strategies for dealing with tricky situations
- share what’s working with each other and this year there is also an opportunity to find out more about
- the issues that are important in the sector currently (the Teachers Matter and early childhood campaigns).

In some regions the seminars are run separately for primary and early childhood (including kindergarten) teachers, and in others they are together.

Provision is made during the seminar to allow for separate specific sector discussions, and also to allow PRT 1 and PRT 2 teachers to work separately.

Respond to the invitation early to secure your place at these seminars. For further information please contact Shelley Hughes - 04 382 2714 or email shelley.hughes@nzei.org.nz.
