Academy Award Nominated Prison Documentary FilmsThere are two documentaries available from National Geographic regarding prison life in the Angola State Prison in Louisiana--The Farm and A Decade Behind Bars: Return to the Farm. The films document the transformation of Ashanti Witherspoon who is currently an associate pastor at Miracle Place Church, in Baton Rouge. He also works with ex-offenders at the reentry home in Baton Rouge. Prior to his release from Angola, where he spent 27 1/2 years, Hollywood came and made an academy nominated documentary The Farm, he was one of the featured men in that film. He is also an active prison minister, his wife works for the Innocence Project and he is president of ToastMasters.
