So one day, sitting pouring my heart out to a friend after rounds of drugs none of which were recreational and I had totally missed out on in college lamenting the fact that my husband would have no part in a sperm donor … like seriously, you meet the man on paper thank you very much, the rest is test tube science.  Anyway, the hub had more of a comfort level with neither of us being genetically connected than only one of us – when that one of us was me.  And that was okay. I really did get it. But the rounds of ivf were taking its toll, my sanity slowly slipping away and my resolve shattered when my cherub would set the table for the baby sister she so desperately wanted.

So my girlfriend decided one night, yes, late one night, that the perfect solution to my sticking needles into my body every.single.day.  problem was to have a discreet one night stand during ovulation. It was late, right, I mentioned that.  Not only did she think this was a good idea, but the more she thought about it, she decided on a candidate, a dear friend of hers. She had it all plotted, she was sure he would be agreeable and no one would ever need know.  Then she recalled she had a picture of him in her wallet.

I took the picture from her, looked it over and burst out – ‘but he is Black!’

(remember no one would ever need know …)

Now MR51% may have the most glorious tan skintone – but really?
 … not that this was ever a consideration, let me just assure you.

As it turned out a few months later, we adopted The Princess, a precious three week old African American baby girl. (do you get the irony here?) We moved to a Boca neighborhood just before her second birthday where people were not quite so liberal (we didn’t stay there long)  After being questioned several times about her adoption … I decided to  lie thro my teeth share that it was just one night in a bar, my husband had forgiven me and we didn’t talk about it anymore … tended to stop the interrogation in its tracks. MR51% banned me from this conversation a short while later (and here I am sharing it with y’all!)

When you are facing infertility, you need to add humor, or you will curl up and cry …

When you are trying to have a baby, everyone is an expert.
When you are adopting, everyone has a viewpoint.
When you are raising your kids, everyone has an opinion.

But your journey is your own …

Remember that saying, I’m a lover not a fighter …
Lately I feel the need to say I’m a reader not a writer …
Its true, the last few weeks have had me reading thro my Google reader, going through the meme’s out there … thoroughly enjoying the immeasurable talent that is the blogosphere.
And my writing, not a whole lot of active … why you may ask?
Well, because the reading has just swallowed me whole.
WHOLE.
And its awesome. In fact its A.W.E.S.O.M.E. Yes, see how many blogs I have read lately … I am doing an all caps awesome. The other thing I discovered while perusing in my unshowered leisure, is that when I look at ‘readers’ of new bloggers that I come across, they could have two hundred blogs they follow – and I may not have heard of a single one of them. Not one.single.one – and that makes me chuckle, possibly even peal with a little maniacal laughter to realise that as I sit back and lament that some people never comment on my blog – there are tons of bloggers out there who have not even heard of the people that I am lamenting. Pathetic? Nah, actually makes me feel rather good about myself really. No, I am not ashamed  ;)

My sweet husband looks at me as I tell him about these wonderful friends that I have that live in my screen, who know the workings of my head, who encourage me in my day to day life, who commiserate when I am sad and rejoice when I am happy … I think he believes some of it really is in my head …

The harsh reality of all this fabulousity (ooh, shiny new word …) (nope, already coined in the Urban Dictionary)(crap, Kimora Lee Simmons named her book by that name)

Anyway back to the harsh reality, there are bloggers out there who never ever sleep.  They comment morning, noon and night. They swoon, and tear up, they rofl and lmao. They seem to be in every corner that you visit. Lets face it, bloggers can be incestuous little bunch.  We follow eachother, finding a tribe, (do you have a tribe?) Are you frugal? $650 at Costco yesterday says that I am not.  Do you report on fashion, have favorite recipes to share … are you amaazzzing at accessorizing or can you  throw a gourmet meal together in a half hour.  If you can ‘shred’, report your calorie intake, take a photo of your working wardrobe, take a photo of pretty much anything, or write a blog post every single day … there is a meme, a tribe, a site, a page – to hang your blog on.
Really.
There are meme’s for everything. E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G.

I do see that I have been added to agazillion inner Google circles … its a shame that I have no idea who most of these people are.
Before you think I am a complete techno illiterate, I even have a LinkedIn account, and I have lots of friends on there.  Granted most of them came one night after an invite from a friend.  I accidentally clicked on a share or something and it sent invitations out to every person I had ever had any correspondence with – in like ten years. Even people I don’t speak to, or would not pee on if they were on fire received my invite – and most of them became my friends. You have to love the internet and the general neediness for numbers and followers.
But you must accept.
There will be no time to have a life.
But since these people are mostly in your screen, you will not need to shower, or change, or wear make up … so look at all of the time you will save.

Welcome Julie …

With 2012 rolling in I’m forced to reflect, it’s amazing how quickly life passes me by while I’m not looking. I set out a year ago to spread a message via my blog. My message is rudimentary but I had missed it for too many years. I had gotten lost in the Worldly ways, constantly moving and planning.
By the time I realized that I was existing instead of living, it was almost too late. My ego had brought me close to the edge of losing everything while I was still succeeding by my own standards. I had a career, a house, nice things and two daughters who loved me.
How had this desolation crept up on me, how had it gotten so bad that I couldn’t stop drinking once I had poured my first drink? Why couldn’t I remember the nights when I drank, oh how the shame enveloped me.
The fact is that my alcoholism didn’t just appear one day, it progressed over time until it got to the point where I couldn’t ignore it. The people around me were noticing the strange behaviors which I had tried so valiantly to hide. My husband was getting the worst of me while my workplace got the best.
Living my life in separate boxes was exhausting, the Mother role came first with the employee a close second. By the time I put on my wife and friend hats I had very little energy left; it sapped all I had to plaster that Stepford Wife smile upon my cracked façade.
I suppose you could have referred to me as a “high-functioning, binge drinking alcoholic” but I honestly wasn’t aware. I had never associated alcoholism with someone who only drank on weekends.
The reality was that I was losing myself to the disease; my time during the week would have me sub-consciously counting down the time until I could pour my first wine.
How many of you can relate at this point, have you felt the desperation of not knowing how to stop the cycle of some behavior you’ve adopted to cope? Do you shop when you’re stressed, are you spending when you should be saving, does food quell your fears?
Not a single one of us is near bloody perfect, and until we give ourselves a break and take some time to relax, we’ll be chasing happiness forever.
My story changed when I reached out for help, it was the very first time I’d admitted that I couldn’t fix something. I had to give up control of my path and seek help.
I’ve been sober almost 2 years now and have had a chance to get to know how to live in today, in this messy, chaotic world and how to deal with all of the unexpected emotions within it.
Today I ask you to take a look around you and ask yourself if you’ve been spending time focusing upon aspects of your life which are truly important. Are you sweeping your emotions under the rug, keeping so busy that you don’t have time to deal with them or coping through them with a vice?
If this is the case, please know you’re not alone. Many of us have walked that path before you and we’ve managed to hop the proverbial fence to daily contentment. Learning to keep your mind where your hands are, is worth the effort!

Having done two serious kind of New Years posts for Hip Homeschool Moms and The Homeschool Post  both super fabulous homeschool networks … what could I write over here that would be fun, tongue in cheek and probably not to be read by my children? Yes, that would be you Wiki – although after having inadvertantly watched that episode of Bones with you, where grown men dressed as ponies were being schooled by their riders – I am probably more PG13 with this.

I also need to give this blogging a whole load more thought since just asked MR51% to read one of the two guest posts, and he said the following things;
a. don’t ask me to read them, you don’t want my feedback
b. I have not liked your posts lately, well, the one’s that I’ve read anyway
c. ugh, why would you ask me to read something with bible verses in them?

So with my current aggravation in mind …

Obviously, since its a time for New Year resolutions, my first resolution would be.
You married him, deal with it.  He has many upsides, even if he has no *ss.

Second up.
Put my him on my to do list.  I just read that if your husband is cute and you are not doing the dirty with him often enough, then someone else is. And let’s face it, to remarry and be a trophy wife in Boca, the guy would be in his 80′s to want to marry someone my age.  He would also have to be on oxygen, bedridden and paralyzed from the waist down – if that is my only option.

Thirdly.
Time to consider my health. Coughing up my lungs in the last few weeks and a quick bout with pneumonia, has taught me that I need a little cardiovascular exercise.  When too much coughing strains your stomach muscles, its probably time for a change. (altho I must admit, it was somewhat comforting to know that they were there at all.)
Since s*x is considered in that cardio category, I can kill two birds with one stone . Score.

Fourth.
My children are my priority, not my house.  In an effort to spend more time with them and less time housekeeping, I suggested that we move into an rv. MR 51% said he wasn’t coming, which would sort of take care of No.2. but would negate No.1. So as a compromise, all chores will be divided equally, thus giving us all plenty of quality time to spend together. #inmatchingaprons

Fifth.
An executive decision … Three out of five mornings will now be spent doing school at Barnes and Noble.  I am way more congenial overcaffeinated, Wiki would happily live in its hallowed halls and The Princess is easily bought with sugar cookies and hot chocolate.  It also prevents me from bringing in the * Wrath of God and also curtails the inevitable tirade of, ‘I will pack you up and send you to school in Timbuktu’ if surrounded by strangers who already think its odd that * I homeschool and I don’t wear denim jumpers, without having a side show of crazy psycho Mama twirling the globe saying * ‘see, Timbuktu is a real place’. (don’t you love how I threw 3 posts in there!)

Sixth.
Half a dozen could be my limit.
Since my time is taken up with parenting, homeschooling, housekeeping, the possibility of exercise other than that whole dutiful wife thing and of course figuring out how to be a better blogger so that at least MR51% will read my blog … I believe I need a clone. Now some women would maybe consider one of those lady toys I wrote about once, but lets face it, she ain’t about to throw in a load of laundry.And Dolly the sheep sure is not the answer to my prayers. At this point in time, it leaves me with a sister wife … maybe I will work on an application form …
