Before Lent, we observed Zacchaeus Sunday. We hear a personal narrative of faith from another man who would take the name Zacchaeus when he converted to Orthodoxy on Journey to Orthodoxy.
On OCN Now, Fr. Demetrios Tonias of Archangels Greek Orthodox Church in Watertown, MA, talks about the impact of the recent bombings on his community and the role of the church in helping to heal after a tragedy like this.
Throughout Lent we have been celebrating the Liturgy of St. Basil the Great. But who was this man? We can learn more about him from Paula Kerifides on Theologically Thinking.
As each of us continues in our personal Lenten journey, CRTL this week will offer up two examples of Christians who struggled in this world but found peace in Christ. We’ll hear first about one of Orthodoxy’s most beloved Saints - Mary of Egypt - from Metropolitan Tikhon, Primate of the Orthodox Church in America. Then, we’ll hear from Hieromonk Calinic Berger about a Romanian priest who died just twenty years ago. Fr. Dumitru Staniloae is recognized as one of the leading Orthodox theologians of the 20th century, and spent 5 years in a Communist prison for his faith. We’ll hear about his life and his thoughts on prayer, humility, and repentance.
On CRTL Greek, Dimitris Karavasilis focuses on the subject of earthly, which arises in the story of what Jesus said when asked about it by two of His disciples and their mother. Obviously they hadn't by that time realized who He was. The Holy Spirit would visit them later on. Until then, our Lord found the opportunity to teach them the importance of the greatest spiritual values that overcome, and at the same time enrich, this temporary world of ours. This program illustrates that wonderful teaching.
