The company showcase also a flexible AMOLED with 3.4 inch and a 540&#215;960 pixel resolution. The 13,5 inch OLED is like LGs OLED-Tv technology with White OLEDs and RGB color filters.</p>
<p>Sharp also developed new IGZO technology imparts crystallinity in an oxide semiconductor composed of indium (In), gallium (Ga) and zinc (Zn). Compared to current amorphous IGZO semiconductors, it enables even smaller thin-film transistors to be achieved and provides higher performance. This new material is expected to be adopted for use in LCD displays for mobile devices such as smartphones where the trend toward higher screen resolutions is growing increasingly strong. Further, it can also be adapted for use in organic EL displays which hold out high expectations for the future. Although challenges to commercialization remain in terms of both service life and production, the two companies will continue to push ahead with R&#038;D in anticipation of future market needs.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Novaled introduce new OLED materials at the SID-2012 event.<br />
The company announces a new class of n-doped electron transport layer (ETL) materials for OLED TV and OLED mobile displays. By pairing either of its two new air-stable dopants with either of its two new host molecules, Novaled can achieve the optimum combination of efficiency, voltage and lifetime for a specific display application. This innovative approach results in materials that are air-stable and can double the lifetime of the display compared to the previous OLED stack. The new materials are the next step toward achieving an optimum balance between long lifetime and high power efficiency for display applications using OLEDs.</p>
<p>Novaled will highlight its recent advances in OLED display and OLED lighting at the Society for Information Display’s (SID) 49th annual International Symposium &#038; Exhibition, “Display Week 2012,” June 3 &#8211; 8, 2012, in Booth #3313 at the Boston Convention and Exposition Center, Boston. Dr. Jan Birnstock, Vice President Technology &#038; Products at Novaled, will present a paper on June 6 about Novaled’s new class of OLED materials for OLED TV and OLED mobile display applications.  Dr. Sven Murano, Product Senior Manager at Novaled, will present a paper on June 7 about Novaled’s outcoupling materials for high-efficiency white OLEDs – light extraction crucial for both lighting and display applications.</p>
<p><strong>Optimized OLED Lifetime and Efficiency Performance</strong></p>
<p>Novaled’s new generation of materials includes NET-164 and NET-142 hosts, and<br />
NDN-77 and NDN-87 ETL dopants. Using various combinations of these dopants and hosts, Novaled can optimize OLED performance for lifetime or efficiency, depending on application requirements. Thus the new generation material addresses two previous OLED weaknesses:</p>
<p>·         Low driving voltage caused lower lifetime due to higher charge carrier density in the emission zone.</p>
<p>·         Air-sensitive N-side dopant materials required more complicated loading in mass production tools.</p>
<p><strong>Effective Outcoupling for Better Light Efficiency</strong></p>
<p>To achieve maximum efficiency in white PIN OLED devices, Novaled uses evaporation processable outcoupling layers – thin NET-61 layers in n-doped ETLs. The use of crystallizing outcoupling enhancement layers leads to corrugation of the reflective cathode, significantly reducing the plasmon absorption losses. Novaled has deepened its expertise on effective outcoupling and, during its presentation on June 7, will introduce its latest data about a three-unit white stacked PIN OLED using NET-61.

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Flexible Display Center (FDC) at Arizona State University today announced that it has successfully manufactured the world’s largest flexible color OLED prototype using advanced mixed oxide thin film transistors (TFTs). Measuring 7.4 diagonal inches, the device was developed at the FDC in conjunction with Army Research Labs scientists. It also meets a critical target set by the U.S. Department of Defense to advance the development of full-color, full-motion video flexible OLED displays for use in thin, lightweight, bendable and highly rugged devices.<br />
&#8220;This is a significant manufacturing breakthrough for flexible display technology,&#8221; said Nick Colaneri, director of the FDC. &#8220;It provides a realistic path forward for the production of high performance, flexible, full color OLED displays, accelerating commercialization of the technology in the process.&#8221;</p>
<p>Mixed oxide TFTs offer a highly cost-effective approach for manufacturing displays that deliver high performance, including vibrant colors, high switching speeds for video and reduced power consumption. Furthermore, mixed oxide TFTs can be manufactured on existing amorphous silicon production lines, eliminating the need for specialized equipment and processing, thereby reducing costs compared to competitive approaches.<br />
&#8220;One of the primary directives of the FDC has been to pursue approaches to flexible technologies that take advantage of existing manufacturing processes,&#8221; continued Colaneri. &#8220;This focus drove us to pursue a flexible, color display based on mixed-oxide TFTs, which are widely regarded as a strong, cost-effective alternative to low-temperature polysilicon. This display showcases the Center’s successful scale up to GEN II, and our ability to produce displays using mixed-oxide TFTs in standard process flows with our proprietary bond/de-bond technology.&#8221;<br />

<p>OLEDs offer unique scopes for luminaire designs: They can be quasi transparent when switched off. They can be produced at very thin glass or foils. Totally different shapes, colors and color temperatures are possible and they can be dimmable. Finally, several light segments of a luminaire can be driven individually that they appear darker or brighter, but also variable patterns can be realized – the so-called »dynamic light«.</p>
<p>In the last years COMEDD (Center for Organic Materials and Electronic Devices Dresden) – well-established as the center of the European OLED research – has developed a multitude of OLED area illuminants and has manufactured them according to the customers specifications. OLED modules with modular sizes are available under the brand <strong>TABOLA</strong>.</p>
<p>Dr. Christian May, deputy director of COMEDD, proudly states: »COMEDD&#8217;s modular design principle permits the whole range of OLED lighting panels up to a size of 33 cm x 33 cm starting with several standard format options, which are quickly and regularly deliverable. As the first real area light source, OLEDs can be designed in a way that allows individual segments to be dimmed differently or switched on and off with a remote control. This creates a totally new impression of light, that can be varied down to someones whim.«</p>
<p>Dynamic lighting is conceivable especially for living and wellness areas, but it could play an important role also for technical lighting solutions. By this, the localized illumination of an item, work piece or part of a machine in a defined time and brightness is possible. Depending on the design of the OLED these settings are easily configurable by mobile phone or laptop. In view of the totally new opportunities it&#8217;s no wonder that designers and manufacturers of luminaires from all over the world are excited about this novel kind of light. At the moment the COMEDD scientists work on OLED area lighting on flexible materials such as plastic or metal foils. Color changing and transparent luminous sheets are coming up in the near future.</p>
<p>Beside the exhibition COMEDD will present latest results in OLED lighting within the keynote speech (day 3, June 21 at 09:00 am) by Prof. Leo on »Recent Progress in Small Molecule Organic Devices« and the contributest talks by Dr. Törker »Transparent OLEDs for signage and decorative lighting applications« and Dr. Mogck »Roll-to-Roll encapsulation and defect characterization of flexible OLED devices« on Wednesday, June 20 at 11:30 am and Thursday, June 21 at 12:40 pm respectively.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>At the CES-2012 LG showcased the <a href="http://www.oled-display.net/oled-tv-television/lg-55em9600/">55EM9600 55 inch OLED-Tv</a>, now LG is ready to show the final design of the Ultimate Display.<br />
In Monaco at the F1 GP LG will showcase the final design in audience of 400 dealers and world champion Sebastian Vettel.<br />
 LG officials vowed to develop the most advanced commercial OLED TV in the market and to be the first company to bring these TVs to European consumers in the second half of the year for about 8000 Euros.</p>
<p>The OLED TV’s WRGB technology is the culmination of years of research and development at LG, the company behind the world’s first commercialized 15-inch OLED TV in 2009. LG’s 4 Colour Pixel technology relies on a white sub-pixel to perfect the colour output. A Colour Refiner enhances the image, resulting in pictures that are the most vibrant, natural and comfortable to the human eye. The screen also delivers a perfect viewing experience without distortion or loss of contrast regardless of ambient brightness or viewing angle.</p>

Samsung Electronics Chairman Kwon Oh-Hyun says today that the korean company is getting &#8220;huge&#8221; orders from electronics makers for flexible AMOLED Displays named <a href="http://www.oled-display.net/samsungyoum/">YOUM</a>.</p>
<p>Samsung is ready to mass produce flexible AMOLED in the third quarter of 2012. </p>

OLEDs will replace LCDs as the main mobile displays from around 2015 as the screens are thinner and brighter. Samsung has massively invested in OLED-related technologies and will continue to do so.</p>
<p>A Samsung spokesman declined to talk in detail about the plans for flexible OLED screens and how Apple fits into the picture.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Fraunhofer IPMS and COMEDD showcase a evaluation kit of OLED based bidirectional OLED Microdisplay at SID-2012 in Boston.<br />
The device consists of an active OLED matrix and therein embedded photodetectors. HMDs are widely used in certain professional and academic markets. The main task of such a HMD is to combine the user’s view to the real world with additional virtual information. An interactive see-through HMD provides a human computer interface with e.g. head-tracker, data-glove and eye-tracker to enable the user to interact with the virtually shown content. A big isadvantage of state-of-the-art see-through HMDs are the unhandy imensions. Due to the accessory elements, at the moment interactive state-of-the- art see-through HMDs have significant dimensions and a restricted mobility.<br />
Dr. Rigo Herold, responsible for the HMD system integration at the Fraunhofer IPMS, states: “The use of bidirectional OLED microdisplays removes all disadvantages of interactive state-of-the-art HMDs and enables the design of lightweight data eyeglasses”.</p>
<p>Using such unique system the display is working as an actuator and influences the user by virtually projected images. The user interacts via his/her gaze e.g. focusing a virtual button. The embedded camera acts as sensor and captures the current image of the users gaze and a computer-system receives these images and calculates with an eye-tracking algorithm the point of gaze coordinates and provides these coordinates to the interactive application. The application processes the user interaction and generates a new virtual image. This virtual image will be transmitted to the display and virtually projected into the user’s field of view. The system provides the human-computer- interface as a closed loop.</p>
<p>Examples of applications: A maintenance service worker is able to scroll between pages of a manual by using virtual back and next buttons, the virtual buttons are gaze-triggered, so the worker can use his hands to do maintenance tasks at the same time. Another usage scenario would be a user activating and responding to phone calls hands-free, e.g., to handle emergency calls.</p>
<p>The combination of several technologies e.g. OLED, CMOS and optics is the key to produce mobile, complex and energy saving interactive see-through HMDs for various markets. The ergonomic design improves user friendliness compared to state-of-the-art HMDs. Furthermore, using both, the right and the left optics, the conception of the presented system enables an advanced user interaction by 3D eye-tracking.</p>
<p>Fraunhofer IPMS – COMEDD presents at the SID 2012 for the first time ever an evaluation kit of this exciting technology, which enables the user to test the technology and develop application specific HMDs or data eyeglasses.</p>
<p>The evaluation kit provided by COMEDD consists of:</p>
<p>Lightweight eyeglasses (collaboration with Trivisio Prototyping GmbH, Trier, Germany)</p>
<p>Binocular see-through optics with</p>
<p>o Monochrome VGA display (full-color available soon)</p>
