this looks so cool! It is very evocative. makes me think I will be getting a camera soon. I have taken some good pictures in the past, and think I may take some more. Camera first. Figuring out how to put them in the computer next. The pictures will take care of themselves. And I will happily follow your example and throw out most of them.

In college i spent many a night reading Farmer's books. Curious if anyone’s has checked out the new book “Hell’s Aquarium” by Steve Alten? It’s an awesome read. It’s about the ancient prehistoric shark Megalodon, which makes the current Great White Shark look like a gold fish. I am currently reading it now:

I was a fan of Russell Banks, having enjoyed The Sweet Hereafter and Affliction. Rule of the Bone was a little off course but still excellent. This book was pure bad soap opera. The first chapter is badly overwrought and overwritten. The rest drivel. Let's cast this as a 1930s-40s movie with Paul Muni as the Artist, Humphrey Bogart as St. Germain, and Carole Lombard as the self destructive borderline personality Vanessa.

The concept of the "demon" appearing as something beyond the stereotypical "Exorcist" type creature, is very intriguing.
I like the idea that it manifests itself in such benign forms, then dismantles the lives of whomever is in it's possession.

It's also interesting that the "demon" could possibly be part of the fabric of who we are, a piece of ourselves we refuse to acknowledge or account for.

I enjoyed this review, and 'Pandemonium' seems like a worthy addition to my current reading list.

Glad you enjoyed the book, Steve. And thanks for the kind words.

The second book in the series, THE DRAGON FACTORY, is wrapped and delivered to my publisher. No zombies in that one. When Joe Ledger returns he'll be facing a cabal of scientists using cutting-edge genetics for ethnic cleansing and a reboot of the Nazi Eugenics program. It'll be out in April 2010.

Best

Even Tyson pretty much acknowledges that Pluto's last chapter has not been written. At the Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate last night, held at the American Museum of Natural History, Tyson and six panelists, all professional astronomers, agreed that the IAU bungled the job of defining the term planet in 2006. I wouldn't even go so far as to consider the IAU as having succeeded, as their definition has been rejected by both astronomers and lay people, and it makes no sense in stating that a dwarf planet is not a planet at all and in defining objects solely by where they are while ignoring what they are.
