This is the first maxi dress I've ever purchased - I've been a long time admirer, but never found one that felt quite right on me. I very randomly stumbled upon this one and couldn't resist... I'm always a fan of black & white prints, and the flattering neckline and faux leather piping won me over!

I think one of my biggest issues with maxi dresses is what shoes to wear with them - even though I'm not particularly tall at 5'6, I find many maxi dresses too short, thus eliminating the possibility of wedges or heeled sandals. Ballet flats didn't seem to work, so when I received these gorgeous sandals I knew they'd work with this dress! They fit me so well (note: if you're looking to buy these, I have a narrow foot and slim ankle and these fit absolutely perfectly!) and I, of course, am smitten over the gold detailing!

We had the most gorgeously hot weekend - you can only slightly see my sunburn in these photos, but let me tell you, my shoulders are crispy. Not good, but it was just one of those weekends that you wanted to maximize every minute outside! Beauuuutiful! I hope you all had lovely weekends!

Look Ma, no sunglasses! I forget how often I wear them on here and how little you see my actual face. This is for two reasons: I literally do wear sunglasses every time I'm outside, and taking blog photos is so much easier if you don't have to worry about making dumb faces/eyes being half closed, etc. Sunglasses speed up the process! ;) But on this drizzly, gray evening, I decided to forego the shades.

I wore this out to dinner on Saturday night during our little East Coast Fashion Blogger conference. I wore essentially the same thing during the day, only I wore a white tee in place of the black blouse, and my neon pumps in place of the black, and switched out jewelry. I didn't have the chance to photograph it, but I'm sure it will make another appearance someday!

It was a really fun day. Early Saturday morning I hopped in the car with Kristin and Annick and headed down to Saint John. We started the morning with a session on photography and design/brand building, as well as a chat lead by Kristin about blogging in general. Then they drew incredible door prizes from our amazing sponsors, and as I mentioned in Monday's post I won a gift certificate to Silver Daisy where I picked up these pretty little House of Harlow studs! We spent the afternoon visiting shops & sponsor locations and were greeted with wine, champagne and treats along the way! Then we headed to dinner before making the trek back home again! All in all it was a lovely little day. Big thanks to Barb & the other SJ girls for organizing the day!

I wore this same outfit back in May for my sweet little nephew's baptism, but it's turned out to be one of those versatile outfits that I've gone back to more than once. The sweater is a little more neon yellow in person - I'm not sure what it is about neon that makes it oh so difficult to photograph, but it never really turns out true to life!

I'm sporting a few new accessories here that are worth a mention! The sweet folks at Linea Pelle sent me this gorgeous belt, which has been such a nice addition to my wardrobe. Belts are something that I'm pretty clueless about - I know that sounds odd, but I have the hardest time shopping for belts because I don't really know what makes a nice belt. So I usually give up, and therefore don't really own any belts, but know many an outfit would be better with one. This one, however, I love. It's such a soft nude color and I love the gold hardware!

My love for Stella & Dot continues to grow with the addition of these new bracelets! You've seen me sport my spiked renegade bracelet over and over again, so I'm excited to have a few new pretty gold bracelets to add to the mix!

And last but not least, I'm in lovvvve with my new House of Harlow sunburst studs. I attended a small blogger conference this weekend (which I'll talk about more later this week!) and I won a gift certificate to Silver Daisy, where I was able to pick up these gorgeous earrings. I have been wanting oversized studs for ages now and I love these sparkly little guys to bits.

Song of the Week!

I've commented before about how I feel like I've gotten away from discovering new bands & music, which is something I used to spend a lot of time doing. Do you know what has made that infinitely easier? Songza. This is all going to come across as an ad for Songza, which I assure you it's not, but I love that I can throw on a playlist according to my mood and listen all day while sitting at my desk at work. Sometimes I'm smart enough to write down a song when I hear one playing that I really like. This was one of those songs that was jotted in my notebook to make sure I looked up later. And after many, many listens I thought I'd share it with you as my song of the week! The video makes it even better.

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of black & white ensembles, and as much fun as all the color & bright prints can be during the summer months, there's also a slew of adorable summer wear in classic black & white combos! Above are a few things I'm absolutely swooning over that would make such chic additions to a summer wardrobe.

I'm on the hunt for a great white nail polish that doesn't leave me feeling like I'm sitting in 7th grade painting my nails with liquid eraser. First on my list to try is China Glaze's "White Out" and possibly Essie's "Blanc". Have you tried either of these or have other suggestions for another opaque-but-not-matte perfect white polish? I'd love to know!

Home Decor Love

Lately I've been thinking a lot about home decor and growing more and more aware that my home does not reflect me or my style at all in its current state. Flipping through my home decor pinterest board, it's pretty darn clear what I like: bright white spaces, black & white prints, and splashes of hot pink/fuchsia. Which is pretty much in line with my style when it comes to clothing as well!

So whhhhhy is this barely reflected in my own home? Granted, I live in a rented townhouse, so I'm pretty sure my walls are stuck in their neutral cream color, but otherwise there's no excuse. So blog world, I just thought maybe if I posted this, I'd finally take some steps towards creating a home that feels a lot more 'me' (and hoping that the fella likes all the 'me' reflected throughout the house! Ha!)

First on the list is new bedding, reupholstering my dining chairs, and finally framing a large print I've had since September that's still not hung.

Hot Hot Heat

This weekend we were greeted quite out of nowhere by a major heatwave. I'm talking 35 degrees (that's 95 degrees fahrenheit) kind of hot. Amazing sunshine one moment, intense thunder and lightening and downpours the next! It was definitely a friend and beverage heavy weekend - the minute work ended on Friday I headed to a downtown bar patio to meet some pals and Saturday evening was spent at a girls' night in a makeshift backyard saloon. We had an amazing bbq feast, made s'mores, and drank whiskey sours a'plenty.

By Sunday I was definitely feeling the effects of all my weekend fun, so I needed something breezy and simple for errand running (and loose enough for chicken fingers and ice cream eating). This dress definitely fit the bill, and I hauled out this pair of sandals that I bought last year but never actually wore. Are you blinded by my glaring white limbs? The downside of taking photos while basking in the sunshine is that it sort of amplifies the pale-factor. But it just felt wrong to hide out in the shade with all this glorious sunshine!

A simple and sleek cotton dress, polished sandals and fun colorful accessories are the perfect balance and will keep you feeling cool and polished without ever feeling under or over dressed!

A Lesson in DIY & Festival Style

As you might remember, just over a month ago, I had the amazing opportunity to travel to the UK with Boohoo.com! Recently I teamed up with them again for a fun DIY project - they sent a group of bloggers their choice of either this jersey maxi dress or a tee shirt as well as a fun DIY kit filled with jewels, studs & fabric paints and had us create our festival look!

I quickly learned that I'm really bad at this DIY stuff. I also learned that my classic, simple style holds true even when faced with a big pile of colorful jewels and sparkly paints. After much debate, I opted to simply add studs along the straps of the dress, and keep the whole look comfortable and low key.

Song of the Week!

So the only reason I didn't post this song as my song of the week for the last 3 or 4 weeks was because I was CERTAIN I already posted it - I was shocked to look back through my Song of the Week posts and not see this one. Maybe I just tweeted it? Either way, it's going to be the summer jam and I'm still not sick of it after a month or so of steady listening. So, so good.

It's also supposed to be blistering hot & sunny this weekend, and I plan on spending the weekend on my deck, bbq-ing, drinking wine and eating cherries. Sounds like a solid plan.

The Joy of Basics

These trousers round out my awesome sale finds from H&M a couple weeks ago (where I also got this dress for $10 and this blazer for $15) and came in at a whopping $10. I don't even know what made me try them on; they're thin & slouchy and have a drawstring waist, and are nothing like anything I would normally pick out, but I guess the low price tag had me feeling adventurous & thought they were worth a try. They're supremely comfortable, and I've worn them out & to the office, so they're proving to be well worth the ten bucks!

Also, last week both in real life (sorry co-workers) and on twitter, I had been venting about the lack of nice, simple tops that weren't sheer, backless or have random cutouts. I was so frustrated! Then I walked into Joe Fresh, and whaddya know? A perfect, simple black tank was hanging there waiting for me. I was a happy camper, for sure. Until I got home and realized I only grabbed one of my bags from the self checkout, meaning I had paid for the top and left it behind. (Forehead slap) Thankfully the attendant had put it aside and I didn't have to explain myself too much.

Rainy Day Wear

It has been raining for days. For days and days.The only good thing about rain is that it allows me to break out one of my most favorite items in my closet - these Burberry rain boots, which were a gift from the fella a few birthdays ago. Paired with a long sleeve dress & trench, I was cozy and ready to face this dreary day. On a positive note, the sun is FINALLY shining today, and it should stay that way for most of the week! Hoorah!

Is anyone else as obsessed with this song as I am right now? So darn catchy. Daft Punk is one of those bands that I feel like has been in my life forever, but I don't think about until they come out with yet another amazing dance jam. I remember watching the bizarre video for Da Funk in high school when Much Music and MTV actually played music videos. I remember dancing to One More Time when I was just old enough to go to bars and dance clubs, and of course in more recent years, Harder Better Faster Stronger (admittedly made more popular with Kanye...) and now THIS gem!

We've got a rainy, rainy weekend ahead. I'm hoping it will consist of equal parts rest, fun and productivity.

One of the items high on my summer wishlist is a bright pink cross body bag. Crossbody bags in general make for the perfect no-fuss summer bags, you just sling them across your torso and you're good to go for city wandering or park strolls! They leave your hands completely free for shopping or ice cream cones. But adding a bold punch of color - and in this case, hot pink - makes it even better!

I'm yet to find my perfect bag - I love the Tory Burch, Michael Kors and Rebecca Minkoff ones above, but I'm not sure they fit my budget for a fun time summer bag. There are also a few more affordable options available, but none that quite fit what I'm looking for. The hunt continues!

It's funny how when a trend is not even remotely new or fresh you can develop a new found love for it. If you haven't noticed already, this is me + neon. I can't seem to get enough lately. I've mostly been sporting it as accents, but I'd love to add this neon tweed dress to my closet. Swoon!

This outfit is comprised almost entirely of pieces from last summer. This dress has seen me through all seasons and is a total staple in my wardrobe, though last time I washed it the under layer seemed to shrink up to make it borderline too short. Eep! I'll file it away for nights out as opposed to office wear for this summer, I guess.

If you follow me on twitter (ahem, and if you don't, you can click here to follow along!) you might have seen my tweet about scoring big time at H&M's extra 50% off sale this weekend! I scooped up a blazer, trousers, and this little shift dress all for $39! This dress was $10, and it was something I had been eyeing for a while. I've learned that when there is a lot of the same item left on the sale rack, chances are it's going to fit me. A lot of H&M items don't fit me properly, but the things that don't seem to fit anyone else fit me quite well. Ha! I'm not sure what this says about my body, but either way, I walked away with a cute $10 shift dress, so I really can't complain. I love the faux leather shoulder details!

I'm back at the office after a lovely long weekend that went much too quickly and involved more beer & wine than I anticipated. ;) It was still fairly low key and was mostly spent with the fella and some out of town friends, but I spent the rainy holiday Monday cuddled indoors reading blogs, making chili and catching up on episodes of Veep!

I'm sure I've mentioned this at some point before, but in addition to the blog, I also work a full time day job with the provincial government. Going into summer I have felt like my work wardrobe is seriously lacking, and I rotate the same few things over and over again. I've been making a conscious effort to keep the office in mind when shopping lately, and this navy eyelet shift dress totally fits the bill. It's light weight, the perfect office appropriate without feeling frumpy length, and can easily be layered up for cooler days.

I'm also completely obsessed with my new neon necklace from T + J Designs! Obsessed! It's such an amazing statement piece for summer, and I seem to be crazy about neon yellow lately. (It all started with my neon skater skirt purchase from topshop!) This one is definitely going to be on heavy rotation!

Happy Friday, friends! Not only is it the weekend but it's a long weekend - It's Victoria Day weekend here in Canada which means 3 glorious days off. I feel like it's very much needed and I'm actually really glad that I've got little to nothing on the go.

I plan to mega clean and organize my bedroom & closet, have a few drinks with some out of town friends home for the weekend, and watch the fella play in his first rugby game! Guaranteed I'll very much be the nervous girlfriend on the sidelines hoping his face stays in tact and no bones are broken. Gah!

I thought the long weekend deserved an upbeat song, but it's rainy & cold and I'm feeling low key so Frightened Rabbit it is! We listen to these guys a lot in the car and I've grown to love them quite a lot.

Whites, Brights & Prints (for under $50!)

This spring I feel myself lusting over brights & whites - there is something so fresh about a vibrant pink, orange or lime paired with a stark, crisp white, especially when combined with fun prints!

I'd love to add any of the above to my wardrobe, and don't even know what I love most... the laser cutout dress is so gorgeous in white & lime, and that vibrant body con dress has me dreaming of hot summer nights on the town! And that last dress that looks like a peplum? It's actually a two piece skirt & top, which allows you to mix & match with other pieces (genius!)
