金剛狼原名詹姆斯•豪利特，是一個莊園主的兒子，他自幼體弱多病，與照顧自己的女傭羅絲關係很好。因為一起糾紛，詹姆斯的父親被殺，親眼目睹慘狀的詹姆斯，在暴怒之下，狼形顯現，將兇手殺死，之後他與羅絲踏上了逃亡之旅。詹姆斯和羅絲到處流浪，生活很是艱苦。後來在兇手之子前來尋仇時，詹姆斯誤殺了羅絲，悲痛之下，他隱居山林，過起了野人般的生活。沒想到卻在森林裡遇見了一個叫銀狐的女孩，他很享受與銀狐在一起的快樂時光，未料銀狐突然被殺，更多悲慘的事情接踵而來……
