Recently, On Your Mark had two clients with similar needs. Both companies are local New Jersey businesses that had existing, informational websites with code that was outdated and/or not search engine friendly. Neither company was interested in a complete website redesign and there was largely nothing wrong with the existing structure and basic design. Headlines needed to be edited, title and other meta tags added, images optimized, social networking links added and google analytics code installed to keep track of where the website traffic is coming from.

This meant that every page of the websites would need to be adjusted, though much of the content copy and graphics would remain the same. In this situation, we recreated both sites with fresh, streamlined html, adding on-page search engine optimization along the way. The navigation remained simple, site structure stayed the same and much of the copy and graphics carried over from old site to new.

We charge for this kind of work on an hourly basis and it’s an extremely affordable way to give the website you like an advantage over your competition in search engine placement. Also, the html version was getting large and global, sitewide changes, even if they were small, were taking up a lot of time. The change also allowed their old blogspot blog to be incorporated into their main website. Since this client updates their blog regularly, this increases the size and quality content in the website and will positively impact their search results.

The move was painless for the company, and helped facilitate a restructuring as they have chosen to expand to a national market with specific coverage areas. New sites are being developed subdomains for each state and coverage area and the old domain was forwarded so none of the direct traffic or search results would get lost along the way. Howell Academy of Dance wanted a fresh look for their site while maintaining much of the same content and layout. They had specific ideas about what they hoped the site would become. On Your Mark created a color palette, graphics and textures to match their vision. Last week I set up another website as a wordpress blog. This new site is a personal blog I’ll be using to record my gardening adventures. http://MyNJGarden.com

It’s also the 5th blog I have online that I am personally responsible to maintain. Each of my blogs has a different login page, usernames and passwords. A few of the blogs have suffered neglect as my focus has changed, but now I feel like I can spin all those plates again easily with my discovery of Windows Live Writer.

Microsoft offers a free downloadable and describes all the jazzy features of this program HERE. I downloaded it in a free software pack from Microsoft recently to get my hands on Windows Movie Maker, and Live Writer was included.

You can enter multiple blog accounts, compose and edit posts offline so there isn’t anymore lag time and inserting images is so easy I couldn’t believe it. Once you enter the info you don’t need to login over and over and you can see and edit all your recent posts or pages from any blog account you have saved. It also shows you what your post will look like using your blog’s style as you type it, so you don’t have to publish and cross your fingers that it’ll look write when you view your blog.

I’m loving it so far and it’s so user friendly I can (and am) recommending it to all my clients who maintain their own blogs.
