Server Closed

First I like to apologize for the delay and the huge amounts of downtime lately.

What's the problem?
We don't have a host for the server.
The old one can't run the server anymore without getting a blue screen.

And now, admin is going on vacation for a week.

Until futher notice, the server will not be up.

This will give the developers time to release new versions to bukkit for us to test out once we start up again.

Sever Status

After going over everything twice and twice again, we now need to decide how to proceed.
Here's what happend in a nutchell for people who don't know.

New minecraft update breaking bukkit.
Plugin developers giving up their plugins, no compatible versions coming out.
Hierarchy of plugins makes sure, if one goes down everything else goes down.

So what do we do?

Stay on the old server setup: Player with updated clients can't connect. (Most people can't connect...)
Reinstall the server and try new setups: Lose all data besides buildings. (Money, Exp, levels, safezones, regions - gone)

We're gonna have a conference on Ventrilo and talk about it.

Notes

The recent MySQL conversion went off without a hitch, that was two days ago and we've been using the new systems flawlessly since then.
So It's time to add in plugins again and try to decide which one we will run with.
The biggest question right now is: Towny or no Towny?

In other news. Local player Anteliol has been awarded 500 Eura for his recent monument to vanity:

The Red Star.

He'd been punching sheeps and picking flowers all morning to build this ending up using 557 red wool blocks. In the end, admin had to go around seeding new flowers. *sigh*

2011-02-14 The NPC Update.

The First NPC update!

Sorry for posting again so soon but once we got this going we wanted to use it!

This update might not seem so big to those who wasn't involved with the behind-the-scenes stuff.

But since it will effect those who play in the future I will post the changes here.

Here we go:

New:
NPC - Finally. Only shopping-related npcs for now, from which you can buy and sell. Or own it.
Chest Stores - Place a chest with stuff in it and a sign above and players lose money when they remove things from the chest, and you earn money. Buy it haven't been fully tested yet.
iMonsters - Simply, monsters drop loot. Like money. You like money, don't you?

Removed:
SimpleShop/SimpleMarket - will not be used anymore, all stores will be local. If we bring it back it will be for things like torches. Things you might wanna buy when deep in a mine.
Towny - It's gone for now. No more taxes and such until it's more updated. Until then we will protect ourself with worldguard and use other nice plugins. We'll probably come back to this one.

That's about it for this update.

If you've been playing lately you might have noticed all the weird stuff going on.
Things like monsters out of nowhere in no-monster-zones and the leveling system not working correctly.
Well we've update everything, down to the last plugin.
And for the first time in a while, there were NO error or even warnings when starting up the server.
Which functions that are good to go and now are up to us to discover!

We did remove alot of plugins, (most of them will be back later!) so that we can start converting everything into MySQL easier.
There are still some problems but if this works we'll have a huge new feature: NPCs.

2011-02-12 The new world

Well, we have sailed far far away in search of a new homeland.
Good old Oakgrove is full of holes, those damn creepers took care of that!
Here we are, on a new map full of resources and lots of open space to explore!

When it came time to name this new world, we voted to call it the borderlands, since that's what it is!
But then, admin went and misspelled it and and now the new map is called "Broderlands"...

We've set up camp by the water.
Admin and two other players founded the town of Pandora here, anyone is welcome to join!

As you can see, alot to explore. (Pink are roads).

This isn't so much a real update as it's a info post.
We are now using "Towny" to set up Nations and towns.
There are alot of good features in this plugin that lets us handle things more automatic.

Mob removal in towns.
Town/ally chats
With Iconomy it lets us handle taxes and plot prices automatically!
Taxes and such!
Block permissions
Better PvP control.
Start wars between nations!

And, in the future there will be even more cool stuff!

Like NPCs, and maybe a way to earn money each day on your plots!

This craftbukkit plugin shows real promise, so check out the Thread and give it some love!

2011-02-10 HUGE RPG Overhaul!

This update is huge!

Simply very big! First, let's get the update taken care of!

Serverbot. - We now have our own serverbot, it's pretty useless right now, but we'll see. I named it Botchar.

MonsterHunt. - It was spazing out and when updated stopped worked completly. We have other stuff to do for now, but it will be back in the future.

Party System

There are a few commands with the Party System

/ptp - Party Teleport

/party <nameofparty>

/p - Toggle party Chat

Using ptp will teleport you to the designated party member. Using /party will allow you to see a party member list when given no additional arguments. If you specify a partyname you will join this party.

Skills

Woodcutting

Mining

Repair.

Players can repair Iron/Diamond tools and armor using an anvil (Iron Block). Its more worth it to repair an item than to build a new one. Depending on your repair skill, you may repair better than normal. All a player has to do is approach the anvil with item in hand that he/she wished to repair and then right click. It costs 1 iron ingot to repair iron items, and 1 diamond to repair diamond items.

Unarmed

Based on unarmed skill you will do more damage with your bare hands. At very high skill levels you can disarm opponents!

Herbalism

Now you can have an excuse for punching every rose you see, with herbalism you gain skill by picking ups and managing a farm. Herbalism effects drops while farming and how much you heal with bread and stew. At very high levels bread will heal a LOT!

Excavation

Your shovel is the shovel that will pierce the heavens! Dig through dirt, sand, or gravel for treasure with excavation. The semi-random rewards you get is based on your skill level and what type of material you are digging.

And to top this off! Here are some tips:

For the fastest leveling of mining, I would recommend digging out all the coal/redstone you see, these give a lot of XP and are plentiful. I don't recommend only mining stone to level up as it gives a fraction the XP rate of other materials.
If you team up with other players, I recommend you be in the same party. Not causing accidental damage to one another is crucial.
Getting your repair high enough will allow you to repair precious items such as iron or diamond armor with a fraction of the material cost to make them.

We have installed the War plugin, we can now begin setting up warzones.

Todays update was mostly a bug fix.
And Ohh did it fix bugs.

1. Finally, the annoying bug that forces you to use capital first letter in all commands or just type in plain CAPS, is gone! Now we can go back to normal commands like before, Huzzah!
2. Region control is back up, now we can keep creepers away again!
3. The wool-issue has been solved. Now colored wool can be placed without turning white.
4. Probably more that I can't think of right now. LoL!

Me (Admin) and a friend spent some time building a huge Arena.
To be able to properly use this new building, we've decided that the next update will be a new plugin:
War - Minecraft TDM & CTF
That's right. Team DeathMatches and Capture The Flag!
This will be in the next update and is not yet on the server.

Oakgrove: A Summary!

The Oakgrove RPG server is simply a Survival Multi-Player (SMP) Minecraft server.

We use the new Craftbukkit wrapper so that we can install fun plugins that alters the gameplay for our players.

In Oakgrove you can claim a piece of land to call your own and build your home on. Complete with chests that only you can open.

Level up your skills by gathering resources and constructing buildings.

Sell what recourses you don't need to earn extra Eura, the in-game currency, and use it to buy rare items or resources!

Oakgrove Plugins and Features:

mcMMO - Level up for easier resource gathering!
iConomy - Our money system, gives you an account and the ability to transfer currency.
SimpleShop - a shop for iConomy where you can buy expensive stuff and sell the stuff you don't need. Outrages prices sure, but if you're unhappy, go find a player to trade with, or start a shop of your own.
MonsterHunt - Killing monsters at night gives you points. The player with the most points win money and/or items at dawn.
WorldEdit/WorldGuard - Claim a piece of land for yourself. Turn off PvP damage inside it, or disable creeper explosions. With you as the owner of the lot, only you can open chest or destroy blocks inside your square.
Stats and Achievements - Finally something that Minecraft fans has been waiting for! Achievements to be completed within the game, and it's all automatic. Once you complete a achievement you will get a reward. And with Stats you can see how long you have played for and such things.
WarpGate - We use Nethergates to teleport around the map, finally giving them a use in Multiplayer!
More plugins to discover! Like with Hidden Door, you never know where there could be a secret room!

As a player on the Oakgrove server you have a say in which plugin we install and use.

New Beginings?

After a minor mishap, a mistake caused us to lose some information and we have now moved the Oakgrove server over to this blogg. The domain name will lead here and I'll import all the old posts so everything will be the same as before.

Huzzah!

As the old map (our beloved oakgrove) is getting old, full of holes (f**king creepers!), big and slow we've been looking to start a new map.
This will probably happen on Saturday the 5th.
This will be a great chance to siege the valuble stuff for yourself aswell as the best landmarks!

Stats and Achievements has been added to Oakgrove server.

Lots of fun to things to do.
Lets test it out and see what new achivments we can come up with besides the default ones.

Achievements commands:
/achievements - lists your achievements
/listachievements - lists all configured achievements
/checkachievements - checks if there are any achievements standing (default check-timer is 5min)

Stats commands:
/stats [category|statname|convert|debug|list|help]
/stats [player] [category|statname]

just type /stats to see basic stats
type /played to see your playedfor-time
