New Pool Hours

Good news! The community swimming pool is now open from 9:00 am until sundown Monday - Saturday. These new hours are already in effect so get out there and make good use of our community amenities. New signage has been ordered regarding the hours and will be installed in the near future.

Neighborhood Watch Meeting 6-14 @ 6:30 PM

Summer time is upon us again and while that means fireworks and barbecues it also unfortunately means an increase in criminal activity. While we have made great progress in reducing the crime in the Oaks at Riverview over the last few years we are remaining vigilant and preparing to refocus the neighborhood watch organization to stop crime in its tracks this summer in the Oaks.

We are planning to begin having monthly neighborhood watch meeting starting this June. The first of these meetings will be on Tuesday, June 14th at 6:30 PM in the Oaks at Riverview clubhouse on Broad Street. Going forward we are tentatively planning on having these meetings the 2nd Tuesday of every month. This meeting is open to all who wish to attend. If you're a neighborhood watch veteran please attend so we can bring everyone up to speed on our plans for the summer. If you are interested in possibly joining the neighborhood watch this will be an excellent opportunity for you to get to meet the neighborhood watch members and get plugged in to the group.

According to the filed document for the Oaks at River view Homeowner's Association and Master Association, most changes to the exterior of your home or your property require adherence to these documents and in many cases approval from the Architectural Review Committee. This process can seem daunting at first, but here are a couple docs to help you navigate the process a little easier.

Architectural Change Request Application - This is the application that must be completed and approved for most changes to your home or property.

Oaks at Riverview Community Standards - This document is designed to give you a high level understanding of the restrictions and procedures that must be followed when making changes to your home or property within our community. These guidelines were compiled from the contents of both the Homeowner's Associations Declarations and Master Association Declarations documents.

Master Association Declarations - This document outlines the restrictions and procedures to be followed as determined by the Master Association. You agreed to and received a copy of this document when you purchased your home.

AUGUST 3RD @ THE OAK’S OF RIVERVIEW TO JOIN CITIES NATIONWIDE FOR
‘AMERICA’S NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME’

Dear residents of Oak’s of Riverview,

On Tuesday, August 3rd, neighborhoods throughout Tampa are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “27th Annual National Night Out” (NNO) a crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), will involve over 14,625 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 36.7 million people are expected to participate in ‘America’s Night Out Against Crime’.

National Night Out is designed to:

1. Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
2. Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts like (Neighborhood Watch) and (Mobil Patrol).
3. Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnership; and sending a message to criminals letting them know our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

From 7 to 9 p.m. on August 3rd, residents in neighborhoods throughout Tampa and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on the outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. This is a night for the residents of Oak’s of Riverview and our surrounding neighbors to stand together to promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity. National Night Out is an event that will showcase the vital importance of police-community partnership and citizen involvement in our fight to build a safer community and nation.

On NNO we invite you to join us on August 3rd from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Oak’s invite your neighbors to join us in “Giving Crime & Drugs A Going Away Party”. To TPD Family,

Our hearts go out to you at this time for your loss. Our sympathy also goes out to the families of Jeffrey Kocab and Dave Curtis these brave men that would put their lives on the line to keep us safe. Words can not describe or imagine how the families of these brave men our feeling, but our hearts and prayers go out to them. We at the Oak’s of Riverview think of TPD not just a part of the city service, but as family and as family we also morn this loss. May God help these families at this time were they need him most, may God bless them to find some kind of comfort in their hearts. We at the Oak’s are at your beacon call if you or the families need anything we are here as a community ready to help.

Shooting leaves 2 Tampa police officers dead

Two Tampa police officers were shot during a traffic stop and later died this morning. A massive search is under way for the suspects â€“ a man and woman in a red 1994 Toyota Camry. Officer Jeffrey Kocab had been with the department for about 14 months, coming from the Plant City Police Department. Kocab leaves behind a wife who is nine months pregnant. He was 31. Dave Curtis had been with the department for almost four years. The former Hillsborough County jail deputy has a wife and four sons, ages 9 years to 8 months. He was also 31. "This is an unbelievable tragedy for these families and for the larger family of TPD and for the larger family of the city of Tampa," Mayor Pam Iorio said. "Our hearts are just breaking. It is so very tragic." The incident began about 2:15 a.m. when Curtis an officer pulled over the Toyota, which was missing a tag, near 50th Street and 23rd Avenue, police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said. The male passenger was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant out of Jacksonville for a worthless check, so Curtis called for backup and Kocab came to the scene. Both officers were shot in the head at close range as they approached the passenger side of the Toyota, McElroy said. Police believe the male passenger fired the shots. The officers made no radio transmissions. Six minutes later, someone called 911 to say two officers had been shot. At a nearby Shell gas station, Chris Arline was walking her dog when she heard "pop-pop, pop-pop." Arline, 49, said she walked north on 49th Street and saw a police officer performing CPR. Curtis and Kocab were rushed to Tampa General Hospital. A steady stream of officers arrived at the hospital before dawn, some grim-faced and others hugging comrades. Police Chief Jane Castor said both officers were on the midnight shift. She said Kocab, a former Plant City Officer of the Year, was looking forward to becoming a father. His wife, Sara, is due next week. In May 2007, Kocab told The Tampa Tribune that he loved "being able to bring my energy to the street. I love to get the bad guys." Kocab is the second Tampa officer killed in the line of duty in the past year; Cpl. Mike Roberts was fatally shot Aug. 19. "We're a very close family," Castor said outside Tampa General. "We're still reeling from the death of Cpl. Mike Roberts and to have such a tragedy as this is very difficult. We have the families upstairs right now and we've surrounded them with the TPD family." Hillsborough deputies are helping search for the Camry's occupants. The driver is a black female. The passenger is a black man in his mid- to late 20s. He's about 5-foot-10 and 150 to 170 pounds. He has a 1-inch afro and was last seen wearing brown shorts, a white shirt, a black vest and white sneakers, McElroy said. It's the second time in a week that officers have been shot during traffic stops in the Tampa Bay area. Two Polk County deputies were shot early Friday in Lakeland after stopping a man riding a bicycle in an area plagued by thefts. The officers' conditions are improving. The bicyclist was killed at the scene.

Just wanted to send out a quick e-mail & helpful phone numbers. (please feel free to send to your trees).

1. I'm sure you all have noticed the amount of children of all ages enjoying their time away from school responsibilities. Please
be careful driving to and fro. Children on bikes, on foot, scooters, etc are everywhere. With that being said, if you find that
some children are being placed in dangerous situation due to lack of supervision - please call the Florida Department of Children
and Families at 1-800-96-ABUSE. (You can remain anonymous) If a child is in immediate danger - intervene if necessary and call 9-1-1. There is no "age" that the
law recognizes as unsafe to be left alone, it is pretty much left up to the skills & knowledge of the child in question. But if you have any
doubts, please don't hesitate to call TPD and have the situation checked out.

2. Loud Parties & Open containers....comes with the summer time territory it seems. Rule of thumb, if your peace is being disturbed, call TPD non-emergency.
231-6130. Officers will go and ask them to turn down the volume. It is against City Ordinance to have an open container of alcohol
on City streets/sidewalks. This does not apply to porches (private property).

3. Firecrackers & 4th of July. Rule of thumb again, if you feel that a youngster is at risk of physical danger due to the caliber of fireworks being used
or the lack of adequate adult supervision...call TPD. If the noise persists after a reasonable hour, Call TPD. Undoubtedly, zone units will be
very busy that night dealing with all sorts of issues. Please consider the amount of police calls for service, it is very possible that
an officer will not arrive as soon as you would expect them to....Priority calls always come first. (Let me know if you would like
to sit with a dispatcher, or call taker that evening....I am sure you will be surprised at the reasons people call the police
and the volume.)

4. Code Enforcement..... If a home has overgrown grass/shrubbery...debris,...etc. Please have your neighbors contact Code Enforcement
at 274-5545, or a more convenient method is on the internet. Have them visit.... www.tampagov.net Every city department is available
on this site. Locate the customer service link, there are many ways to enter complaints and concerns.

5. Animal Control......To report nuisance dogs (continuous barking) call 744-5660, so a letter can be sent to the owner. Dogs & cats that look
like they are being neglected (underfed, not licensed, chained without proper shelter or food) also call 744-5660. Call the same number for
animals that are allowed to run loose.

The annual membership meeting of the Homeowners Association (HOA) for the Oaks at Riverview will be held on Wednesday June 30, 2010.

Per the Oaks at Riverview Homeowners Association’s (CMA) Community Bylaws, the fourth and fifth seats of the board are up for re-election at the annual meeting of members 6/30/10. The vacancies on the HOA board of directors are eligible to any homeowner in good standing with the association and the management association and the board of directors is sending out this announcement to encourage residents to apply for appointment to the board. A letter with an application will be arriving in the mail. Please fill it out and, if you desire, an information sheet with some information about yourself and your background. Then return to the address indicated on the form.

The HOA board of directors works solely with the Homeowners at the Oaks at Riverview to help guide and facilitate community decisions, budgetary issues and protect the standard of living for all residents at the Oaks at Riverview.

Rape Ssupect has been arrested

Great news on the man that raped a woman a few weeks ago he has been arrested he was hiding in the Mayflower Madam Hotel. This is the second time that a rape suspect has used the Mayflower to hide from TPD there has to be a way to close that place down. Please read story below.

Suspect in Seminole Heights rape ruled incompetent

A man accused of raping a woman and leading police on a weeklong manhunt has been ruled mentally incompetent to stand trial. Hillsborough Circuit Judge Chet A. Tharpe made the ruling today after receiving written reports from two psychiatrists who conducted court-ordered evaluations of Joseph Lee Frye. The basis of the doctors' conclusions weren't presented at the hearings and their reports were sealed at the request of Frye's attorneys. Prosecutors didn't contest the reports, saying they knew and trusted the doctors. Tharpe ordered Frye confined in the Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee until he is ruled competent. He set no deadline, but such cases are usually reviewed every six months. Frye, 50, faces four counts of sexual battery, as well as charges of burglary, home invasion, aggravated battery, armed false imprisonment and possession of a firearm by a violent career criminal. Frye, a convicted rapist, faces multiple life sentences if convicted as charged. On Aug. 28, police said, Frye overpowered a woman in her 70s, raped her in the bedroom of her Seminole Heights home and fled with her gun, cash and about $10,000 in jewelry. Authorities searched for six days before a tip led them to the Mayflower Motel on Florida Avenue where Frye was arrested. He was released from state prison Aug. 1 after serving time for a 1985 rape.
