To ensure that your brush will be collected, you should have limbs and all other yard waste out and ready for pick-up on the date above. Place only limbs, branches and true yard waste by the curb for brush crews. Lumber, household trash and other types of debris found in your brush pile means it won't get picked up. Brush piles should not be placed close to mailboxes, utility poles, fences, trees, other stationary objects, in ditches or near storm drains.

Royal Bank received this communication about the newest scam.
This one is pretty slick since they provide YOU with all the information, except the one piece they want.

Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it.

This information is worth reading. By understanding how the VISA & MasterCard telephone Credit Card Scam works, you'll be better prepared to protect yourself. One of our employees was called on Wednesday from 'VISA', and I was called on Thursday from 'MasterCard'.

The scam works like this:
Person calling says - 'This is (name), and I'm calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460, your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank). Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a marketing company based in Arizona ?' When you say 'No', the caller continues with, 'Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?' You say 'yes'.

The caller continues - 'I will be starting a Fraud Investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. 'Do you need me to read it again?'

Here's the IMPORTANT par t on how the scam works - The caller then says, 'I need to verify you are in possession of your card'. He'll ask you to 'turn your card over and look for some numbers'. There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the last 3 are the Security Numbers that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The caller will ask you to read the last 3 numbers to him. After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say, 'That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you have any other questions?'

After you say no, the caller then thanks you and states, 'Don't hesitate to call back if you do', and hangs up. You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the card number. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back. Within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we were glad we did! The REAL VISA Security Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of $497.99 was charged to our card. We made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new number.

What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card. Don't give it to them. Instead, tell them you'll call VISA or Master Card directly for verification of their conversation.

The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you're receiving a credit; however, by the time you get your statement you'll see charges for purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost too late and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report.

What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from a 'Jason Richardson of MasterCard' with a word-for-word repeat of the VISA Scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of these reports daily! They also urged us to tell everybody we know that this scam is happening. I dealt with a similar situation this morning, with the caller telling me that $3,097 had been charged to my account for plane tickets to Spain , and so on through the above routine.

It appears that this is a very active scam, and evidently quite successful.

Pass this on to all your family and friends

To ensure that your brush will be collected, you should have limbs and all other yard waste out and ready for pick-up on the date above. Place only limbs, branches and true yard waste by the curb for brush crews. Lumber, household trash and other types of debris found in your brush pile means it won't get picked up. The mechanical arm of the knuckle boom truck needs enough room to lift the brush pile up and into the trailer pulled behind the truck.

Place leaves in biodegradable paper bags only. Paper biodegradable bags can be purchased at most hardware stores, Wal-Mart's, Target, Home Depot, etc. Public Works also has a supply of these bags available for purchase at the Omohundro Convenience Center: 5 bags for $3.00 and 10 bags for $6.00.

Plastic bags will not be picked up.
Thanks to Joe Romaine, one of our Oakwood Board members for taking the lead on this project and researching vendors for a replacement to the old playset. As you remember, we had the old set removed because of safety issues and its poor condition and rotten post that could not be repaired.

NASHVILLE – Approximately 25 bus routes and the Music City Star are in service this week as the Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) continues to ramp up services after last week’s historic flooding. Rides on MTA buses are still free.

“Our staff has been working to get all buses back in service as quickly as possible,” MTA/RTA Chief Executive Officer Paul J. Ballard said. “We truly appreciate how helpful the Metro Nashville Public Schools and other Metro agencies have been during this difficult time. In addition, our transit colleagues have been extremely supportive in loaning vehicles to us so that we can continue to provide services.”

In the coming days, customers will see different vehicles operating on the MTA routes since so many transit organizations are assisting MTA with loaned vehicles.

MTA has received or will receive the following loaner vehicles from transit agencies:

• 25 buses from the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority in Cincinnati, Ohio

• 12 high-top vans and two staff cars from Mid-Cumberland Human Resource Agency

• 10 vans from the Knoxville CAC

• Five buses from the Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA)

• Three paratransit vans from Clarksville Transit System (CTS)

• Two staff cars and one pickup truck from the Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA)

• One sedan from the Southeast Tennessee Human Resource Agency (SETHRA)

“In times of crisis, transit systems provide vital support to relief efforts,” said Marilyn Shazor, CEO of the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority in Cincinnati, Ohio. “Metro is responding to Nashville’s pressing need for transit buses for their emergency relief efforts, as we would want other transit systems to help Cincinnati in a catastrophic situation like this.”

Sixty buses and vans are operating on the Saturday schedule that is in effect compared to the usual 147 dispatched during weekday service. Nearly 200 bus operators are on duty this week.

Music City Circuit buses resumed meeting the Music City Star train at Riverfront Station on Monday and are operating on a Saturday schedule. In addition, the Music City Star and RTA’s Route 96X Nashville/Murfreesboro Relax and Ride also resumed service and fares are being collected as usual.

Customers who are eligible for MTA’s AccessRide van services began booking reservations for emergency medical trips such as dialysis last week. Customers also can book reservations for work trips, but not site trips.

Routes and frequencies will continue to increase in subsequent days as maintenance and support facilities are established and equipped. During this transition period the fares are free on all Nashville MTA buses.

Customer Care Call Center employees are on duty at a temporary Metro office location to handle inquiries. The telephone number is (615) 862-5950. AccessRide customers may call (615) 880-3970, while RTA customers should call (615) 862-8833. Customers should also review the nashvillemta.org Web site for updates. A list of the bus routes and their modifications will be posted on the Web.

Updated information will be released from the Nashville MTA Communications Office as it becomes available.

Residential Brush Collections:

Due to the efforts required for Metro Public Works to provide Disaster Debris Collections - All regular residential Brush Route Collections will be suspended until further notice. This will allow Public Works resources to concentrate on the Disaster Recovery efforts currently underway.

Debris Collection Guidelines are available at: http://www.nashville.gov/pw/pdfs/news/2010/DisasterDebrisCollectionGuidelines.pdf

Please review these guidelines prior to placing your Disaster Debris curbside/street side for pick-up.

Residential Trash & Recycling Collections:

All residents who have Metro Public Works Trash or Recycling collections will be on schedule, however, some roads may still be impassable, and collections will be performed as conditions improve.

Residents who lost their Trash (brown) or Recycling (green) carts due to flooding conditions may place their items at the curbside or alley pickup location in plastic bags and label them as Trash or Recycling. Do not block alleyways with Trash, Recycling or Disaster Debris.

Brush crews begin in the downtown area and work out to the county line, and it usually takes 8-10 days to complete pickups in an area. To ensure that your brush is not missed, you should have limbs and all other yard waste out and ready for pick-up on the date above, if possible. Place leaves in biodegradable paper bags only, plastic bags will not be picked up. If you have any questions, please contact us at 615-880-1000 or visit Brush Do's and Don'ts.

Thank You,
Waste Management Division, Metro Nashville Public Works

Brush DOs and DON’Ts

Believe it or not, there is a right way and a wrong way to set out your brush for pick-up.

RIGHT WAY:
You need to leave enough room for the mechanical arm of the knuckle boom truck to operate. You can stack your piles end to end, as shown above, or on top of one another. In general, height doesn’t matter, but all brush needs to be close enough to the curb or roadway for the truck to reach it. Only the driver travels with the truck; no other crew members to move piles or separate items that don’t belong in a brush pile.

WRONG WAY:
Brush piles should not be placed close to mailboxes, utility poles, fences, trees or other stationary objects.

Place only limbs, branches and true yard waste by the curb for brush crews. Lumber, household trash and other types of debris found in your brush pile means it won’t get picked up.

Well-meaning citizens placed these brush piles too far from the roadway for the knuckle boom truck to reach them.

To ensure that your brush will be picked up, don’t forget to follow these important DOs and DON'Ts and other brush collection guidelines.
