Earlier this week Charlee Drew premiered the music video for his latest single 'Somebody Else' on YouTube, and is also available to download for FREE from Charlee's website. Charlee Drew is an artist we have grown particularly fond of, especially since he is also based in Leicester like us, so we like to show as much support as we can. Some of you may recall us writing an entry on Charlee Drew earlier in 2012 following the release of his EP - 'You Did Me a Favour'. Anyway, this one's an equally as good single and it features a guest appearance from Coronation Street actress Sacha Parkinson. There's been a lot of positive feedback flying about on social media for this one so give it a spin, it's called 'Somebody Else'.

Here we have an absolutely huge anthem by UK female rapper Amplify Dot (or A Dot for short), it goes by the title of 'Kurt Cobain', and it's basically about 'living fast' like the song's namesake. We actually came across this single a couple of weeks back on our favourite radio station, BBC Radio 1 and instantly took note so we could try and eventually put together a post when the video appeared. The video dropped a couple of days ago, and it's already been getting people talking on the Twittersphere and gathering sizeable momentum and praise. If you don't know about Amplify Dot, give this one a spin - it's got a lot of potential to be a soundtrack to Summer 2013. At a time when female lyricists seem to be prospering, what better time for the UK to make its mark, hey? Watch this space...

After A$AP Rocky revealed earlier last week on his Twitter page that the video for his upcoming single 'Wild for the Night' taken from his latest album Long.Live.A$AP was to be released on Monday of this week, the Twittersphere was left in deep anticipation of the track, which features a distinctive touch from fellow compatriot Skrillex and the chopped-and-screwed vocals of French DJs Birdy Nam Nam. A$AP Rocky uses a shanty town within the Dominican Republic as the stomping ground for this crazy visual which features everything from kids with guns to the boys cruising through the slums on mopeds. Pretty crazy misbehavior going on here, but it's nothing out of character really now is it...

ARCHITECTURE: WANANGKURA STADIUM BY ARM ARCHITECTURE

We've realised we don't do enough posts on architecture these days, and as we came across this flamboyant building we decided that it was worthy of an entry on the blog. This is a piece of architecture situated in the remote town of Port Hedland situated within the Western Australia region. It was given the name 'Wanangkura' which quite literally translates in English to 'Whirlwind', a term dervived from the aboriginal native Kariyarra language. The building which was designed by Australian-based firm ARM Architecture, and provides an eccentric touch to the Australian outback providing sports facilities to the local community and sports clubs, and utilizes adaptive technology which allows the building to withstand hazardous cyclonic conditions. The design of the Wanangkura Stadium is said to mimic the aesthetic of a desert mirage with its 'shimmering, rippling effect' on the semi-arid landscape - as quoted from ARM Architect Sophie Cleland.

Here's a likkle track from an artist we've been really feeling as of late and she goes by the name of Nina Nesbitt. The single is called 'Stay Out' and if you've been listening to Radio 1 as of late you probably would have heard it as it was Scott Mills' 'Big Thing' last week, and has been enjoying a considerable amount of love on the airwaves. Nina is an 18-year-old Scottish singer-songwriter who has muscled her way into the spotlight through sheer graft, earning her trade via YouTube, Twitter and BBC Introducing in order to finally pioneer the breakthrough we have here. Back in 2012 she also did a fantastic cover of JME's '96 Fuckries' which led many music critics to equate her singing technique to that of Ed Sheeran. Give this one a spin anyway, we're big fans so here's to a successful 2013 to Nina and her Nesbians!

Here we have brand new material from the Rudimental quartet and it's called 'Waiting All Night'. You may remember Rudimental from their 2012 summer smash single 'Feel the Love', and their recent hit 'Not Giving In' both of which were big chart successes. 'Waiting All Night' has all the ingredients of another heavy hitter, and we can already hear this one being the soundtrack to many of the big go to destination this Summer, be it Ibiza, Zante or Magaluf. The single features vocals from an upcoming session singer who goes by the name of Ella Eyre, with the audio being a radio rip taken from over a fortnight ago when it was aired for the first time as Zane Lowe's Hottest Record in the World on his BBC Radio 1 show last month.

Here's another track we picked up on a few weeks back, courtesy of Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1, but hadn't had the chance to post about, so what better time than now. This one's called 'Good Feeling', and it's the creation that comes from a young bearded fellow who goes by the name of Mikill Pane. It does, well, exactly what it says on the tin in the fact that it's a feel good anthem that indulges in the party-centric behaviour of university students today. Pane portrays the transition that a young adult undergoes when flying the nest and embarking on the university experience i.e. arriving in an alien city, initially having no mates, landlord issues, casual sex, parties, alcohol, more parties etc etc. It goes down well for us, and it's nice to see an artist that we've been observing quite closely under the radar finally receiving what can only be described his breakthrough opportunity.

New Music: Bastille - Bad Blood (Album Review)

THROWING DOWN THE GAUNTLET: Bad Blood is already one of 2013's best

Ladies and Gentlemen welcome back to OBWD once more, here we have 'Bad Blood' - the hotly anticipated debut album from South London four-piece Bastille. The band's rise to prominence has been quite unprecedented to say the least, with them first making earth tremors in the music scene in 2011 with their Flaws / Icarus EP, whilst featuring at some of the UK's biggest festivals later that year, it was in 2012 where Bastille began to turn the wheels of their breakthrough from the underworld to the mainstream. We were alerted to to the promising sounds of Bastille upon hearing their lead single 'Bad Blood' back in August of 2012, becoming instant fans of the the boys from thereon.

They later went on to perform at Reading and Leeds in that same year, and 'Flaws' was subsequently released as a successful follow up to 'Bad Blood' and also featured on the UK Singles Chart at a respectable #21, their first UK Top 40 hit. Earlier in January they also released two mixtapes Other People's Heartache Part 1 and Other People's Heartache Part 2 to feed fuel to the fire that was their hype.

Whilst silently going about their business, being shunned by all the who-to-look-out-for-next-year awards and polls Bastille have become architects of their own hype, strategically releasing quality material to slowly but surely whet the appetites of their fans - and we're definitely inclusive of that group. Greg James made 'Pompeii' his big thing back in January and we kind of thought nothing of it at the time, but since then it appears to have blown up going straight in at #2 last week on the UK Singles Chart, beaten only by Justin Timblerlake's 'Mirrors'

'Bad Blood' has all the ingredients of a solid debut album going straight in with their strongest single 'Pompeii', the band's darker side is soon exposed in 'Things We Lost in the Fire'. 'Bad Blood' is the single that continues the tone, reciting a tale of a life long friendship built on trust and solidarity which is later severed by the forever backtracking human mind. 'Overjoyed' and 'These Streets' follow a similar sound, both are ballads with an emotional epicentre right at the core.

We are later enlightened when we reach 'The Weight of Living', 'Icarus', 'Oblivion' and then we have 'Flaws' a gem of single right in the middle. 'Daniel in the Den' is a piano symphony which descends further into the doldrums once more with a Twin Peaks reference in 'Laura Palmer' and an amicable ending through the final song 'Get Home'. All round as we stated previously, we feel 'Bad Blood' is a solid body of work, which experiments extensively and toys with the genre of 'indie-pop' excessively. We're giving the album the thumbs up, and if you're at a loose end for a new album to play on repeat this week then get hold.

New Music: AlunaGeorge Cover Frank Ocean's 'Thinkin Bout You'

Two's Company: AlunaGeorge's bring an exciting chemistry in their sound to the table for 2013

What can we say here, well, this is quite simply a stunning piece of work by a stunningly creative ensemble that go by the name of AlunaGeorge, if you don't already know. The London-based duo take on Frank Ocean's 'Thinkin' Bout You' providing their own harmonious twist to the proceedings, and it's one of those renditions that just effortlessly provides you with that 'feel good factor'. We've been monitoring the progress of AlunaGeorge steadily throughout the past year, and we've been pleased to see them gain substantial mainstream notoriety, including the accolade of finishing runners-up in the BBC Sound of 2013 longlist second only to HAIM. Apparently this version of 'Thinkin' Bout You' was recorded at the 1Xtra live lounge recently, with their debut album set to be titled Body Music and it is well and truly in the pipeline on-course for a June 2013 release date.
