In the past few years we have experienced the rising consciousness about the importance of healthy nutrition with many new all-natural, non GMO, microbiotic diet plans being developed. Today, we are witnesses of a new health trend where the beauty industry is going all-green. There are many famous people advocating such practices, like Gwyneth Paltrow who is about to launch her own organic cosmetics line. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why you too should go green as your New Year’s resolution.

Thinking about the environment

In order for a product to be labelled as organic it’s not enough for it to have natural components, but the way those components are grown is essential as well. For example, this means that with farming crops dangerous chemicals, like various toxic pesticides and herbicides, must be omitted. By doing so, the natural composition of the soil is preserved and so is its surrounding wildlife.

Another important aspect of organic production is that the products are not tested on animals. More and more scientists are adopting the new perspective on alternative testing with methods such as in vitro (which uses human cells) and various computer-modeling techniques.

Practicing Fair Trade

The next important element of an organic product is the regulation of its production process. In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has control over the certification of organic products, but the regulation is more strict with food than with beauty products.

In order to assure that no participant of the production chain has been manipulated or taken advantage of, and in order to control the origin of ingredients going into a product, there are international institutions looking over the certification process, one of the most important being Fair Trade International. Look for organic cosmetics labelled as safe by their tag and you can’t go wrong.

Eliminating dangerous ingredients

You would be surprised, even shocked, if you could understand how many of our common household beauty products actually help us deteriorate our natural beauty features. Every single cosmetics item in your bathroom – from shampoos and hair conditioners, over toothpastes and face creams, to nail polishes and perfumes – each of them hold a handful of harmful ingredients, some of them being linked to causing serious diseases like skin cancer.

Organic cosmetics, being made of natural plant emulsifiers and essential oils instead of synthetic ones, help bring out your best features. After a short while, your skin will be glow radiantly, it will be softer and nourished, eliminating painful cracks and nasty irritation.
