This Jazz festival, featuring Eddie Palmieri, Claudia Villela, Nachito Herrera and more, will take place at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall and St. Augustine Amphitheatre May 9 & 10.  Five hundred years of history are being celebrated with a series of commemorative events and celebrations along Florida’s Historic Coast®.  On Thursday, May 9th, Nachito Herrera will take the stage for an intimate performance at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall. A performance by legendary jazz pianist Eddie Palmieri will close the festival along with Claudia Villela, on Friday, May 10th at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre.

Eddie Palmieri is a Nine-time Grammy Award winning pianist, bandleader and musician.

She possesses a impressive five-octave range which has drawn fans at a number of prominent night spots and music festivals, among them the Monterey Jazz Festival and Jazz at Filoli.

Ignacio “Nachito” Herrera is a two-time Grammy nominated Latin jazz pianist and Emmy Award nominee.

While Latin jazz is a relatively new musical genre that began in New Orleans, the rhythmic storylines of the Afro-Cuban beat that forms the basis of the genre is nothing new to St. Augustine. San Agustin Sol is a celebration of a 16th Century multi-cultural society with deep roots in St. Augustine.

Costume Parade & Trick-or-Treating

Oct. 28: The annual downtown Halloween costume parents for children and their families will begin at 2 p.m. at the Clock Tower at the St. Augustine Visitor Information Center, 1 Castillo Drive, and will end in the downtown Plaza for the costume judging. Registration will begin at 1:30 p.m. Safe trick-or-treating will take place along the historic streets of the downtown area from 3:30 to 5 p.m. after the costume judging. The event is free and open to the public. Diane Lane of Ancient City Tours organizes the event each year. Call 827-0807.

Halloween Photo Contest
In addition to the costume parade, Ancient City Tours is hosting a Halloween photo contest. Photos can be submitted at http://staugustine.com/halloween.

Entries must be received by Nov. 2, with the winners announced on Nov. 6. Categories include Cutest Baby Costume, Best Pumpkin Carving, Best Pet Costume, Best Kids Costume (ages 2-12), Best Teen, and Adult Costume.

A grand prize overall winner will receive a $100 Visa card; first place winners from each category will win a $25 Publix gift card; and second place winners from each category will receive a $15 Publix gift card.

Faver-Dykes State Park is celebrating Halloween with a special educational bat program on Friday, October 19 from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Please meet in the picnic area under the large pavilion. Participants may wish to bring a camera (no flash allowed), water, and bug repellent. Trick or treat candy will be provided.  Reservations are appreciated. Sykes and Cooper Farms is hosting their 3rd annual corn maze. It is located at the Sykes and Cooper Farms in Elkton. It is just a straight drive down St. Rd. 207.
