With her shiny body and smooth curves, this £15-million superyacht is a real wealth symbol. The Adastra, unveiled today in China, is the new floating pleasure palace of billionaire businessman Anto Marden who commissioned its construction five years ago. Designed by Sussex-based yacht designer John Shuttleworth, Adastra Yacht Trimaran 4 is so high-tech, it can even be cotrolled remotely at the touch of an iPad... as long as you don't get any further away than 50 metres. Marden, who is based in Hong Kong and made his fortune in the shipping industry, will be able to sail the state-of-the-art boat between the two islands he already owns off the coast of Indonesia. Described as ‘one of the world's most amazing super yachts’, Adastra is 42.5 metres long, 16 metres wide and weighs 52 tons. ‘It takes the power trimaran concept further than has ever been attempted before,’ Mr Shuttleworth told Boat International. ‘The challenge of turning this concept into a viable luxury yacht has taken us to further research and to develop new thinking on stability and comfort at sea for this type of craft.’ It is the result of five years of planning and construction, and rivals anything owned by yacht-lover Roman Abramovich. The hull of the Adastra is built from glass and Kevlar and can house nine guests and six crewmen. The deck saloon has a panoramic view while the open cockpit has sofas on both sides. The open deck running aft also has a door that hinges out to create a bathing platform. Maximum speed reached by the yacht is 22.5 knots and her range is an astonishing 4000 nautical miles at 17 knots. That is enough for a trip from the UK to New York. Boat International magazine said Adastra Yacht Trimaran 4 'could spell the future for efficient long range cruising'. The yacht has an integrated ship monitoring system, and can even be controlled with an Apple iPad within a 50-metre range. Adastra is powered by one Caterpillar C18 engine of 1150hp at 2300 rpm and has 2 Yanmar 110hp @ 3200 rpm outrigger engines. Adastra's 16-metre beam features a saloon area on the main deck with a lounge area, dining table, and navigation station. The deck at the rear of the yacht has a sofa and bar area to port and a dining area to starboard. The main helm station, which has seating for two, is positioned in a raised pilot house situated between the rear deck and the saloon area and forms part of the cross beam structure. The Adastra is the latest in a long line of super yachts that compete to be the most high tech. Last year Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich bought a £300 million superyacht with two swimming pools, two helipads, a gym, hair salon, dancefloor and submarine. Eclipse has plenty of room to entertain friends, with 15 double bedroom cabins all equipped with their own luxury bathrooms and 6ft wide television screens. Parties on the 533ft yacht are guaranteed to stay private, as it’s fitted with an ‘anti-paparazzi shield’ that fires a laser beam of light at cameras to ruin photographs. The 20,000 sq ft interior also houses a sauna, steam bath and whirlpool to help guests wind down. For more than 40 years McConaghy has been at the cutting edge of race yacht construction; leading the way in research and application of new materials and technologies to build some of the strongest, lightest Ð and most successful Ð racing yachts ever launched. But that is only part the McConaghy success story. With manufacturing basis in both Australia and China, McConaghy now deploys its wealth of talent and its mastery of laminated construction techniques across a number of different divisions, extending the strong commercial platform that has allowed it to defy industry trends and continue to thrive. Adastra Yacht Trimaran 4

Adastra Yacht Trimaran (Wallpaper 1)

In the world of boating, there are yachts, super yachts, and then there's the Adastra, a massive, custom built masterpiece of engineering that looks more like a spacecraft from Star Wars than an actual vehicle. Adastra Yacht Trimaran 2. Unfortunately, a new class of marine transportation hasn't yet been coined, so for the time being the 140-foot will have to reside within the "super yacht" category, though to lump it in with any other water-faring ride does a bit of a disservice to its creators at John Shuttleworth Yacht Designs. The massive vessel's unique triple hull design — also known as a "trimaran" — was based on world record-breaking boats like the Ady Gil. But while previous tri-hulls were created with speed, fuel efficiency, and weight in mind, the Adastra mixes its braun with beauty. Featuring a luxurious interior, complete with dinning area, fancy sleeping spaces, and even a bathroom and shower, the brand new barge is both easy on the gas and the eyes. The ship features a master cabin as well as two guest cabins that will comfortably house a total of nine guests, crew quarters for up to six, and a plethora of deck space for taking in the sights. Designed and built over a span of five years, virtually every aspect of the Adastra Yacht Trimaran 2 construction keeps its weight to a minimum while still being eye-catching. Its hardwood cabinetry is crafted of fine, light-weight oak with honeycomb pockets, while important hardware like the hatch and ladders are made of ultra-strong carbon fiber which are just a fraction of the weight of steel components. The Adastra's top speed hovers around 22 knots, giving it considerable get-up-and-go for a personal luxury yacht, while its fuel-sipping, 1,150hp Caterpillar engine allows it to travel 4,000 miles in a single trip. If you're looking to get your hands on the Adastra, you're out of luck: There's just one of these remarkable vessels in the world, and it's already spoken for. Extensive structural analysis of all parts of the yacht has been carried out, initially by White Young and Green and later by ASTA. This was the only viable way to analyse a shape and structure as complex as this. Simulations of loadings from side slamming, wave impact, and torsional effects of the outrigger riding through waves, were all applied to the computer model. The superstructure is carbon fibre with Nomex honeycomb core, the hull is glass/kevlar foam sandwich and the interior is light weight oak cabinetry using honeycomb panels. To help reduce weight, virtually every aspect of the boat is custom built. This includes carbon fibre hatches, portlights, ladders and even hinges, which are all built specifically for the vessel. A SiMON_ integrated ships monitoring system monitors fuel, security, pump sensors, electrical, lights, etc. The vessel has a fully automated fuel management system which includes an Alfa Laval system for cleaning the fuel. All the vessel functions can be operated from an iPad. Palladium Technologies, based in Florida have developed a Superyacht app, that allows fulll controp of the vessel from anywhere on the yacht. The anchoring system is unique with three anchors all driven by carbon fibre drum winches run by hydraulics. The primary anchor is a custom 130kg Bruce style anchor that deploys out of the starboard wing. The second anchor is 80kg and deploys out of the bow with a carbon fibre arm. The third anchor is 60kg which deploys out of the port wing and will be used as a stern anchor. Adastra Yacht Trimaran 2

Adastra Yacht Trimaran (Wallpaper 1)

After 4 years in build by McConaghy boats in Zhuhai China, the fuel efficient 42.5 m Trimaran Adastra has been lanched into the Pearl River. Exterior detailing and visualisation by Orion Shuttleworth Design Ltd. Adastra Yacht Trimaran 1. Described by Boat International as "one of the world's most amazing super yachts, that could spell the future for efficient long range cruising", the striking 42.5m Trimaran Adastra has recently been launched in China for Hong Kong clients Anto and Elaine Marden. "Adastra" is the result of more than five years of design and discussion with the owners, to build a yacht that meets the needs of a very experienced ocean voyaging couple and their family, and to provide the level of comfort and style that would be expected in a yacht of this class and size. No effort has been spared in the challenge to produce a beautiful yacht that will have low fuel consumption and yet provide excellent sea keeping qualities and luxurious accommodation. "Adastra" takes the power trimaran concept further than has ever been attempted before, previous vessels like "Earthrace" and "Cable and Wireless" were stripped out record breaking machines. The challenge of turning this concept into a viable luxury yacht has led us to further research and to develop new thinking on stability and comfort at sea for this type of craft. Extensive tank testing and radio controlled model tests in waves have been carried out to analyse stability and performance. Adastra Yacht Trimaran 1. Outrigger height has been optimised for ease of motion at sea, and a new outrigger shape has been developed to increase stability in waves. We have undertaken a state of the art structural analysis of all the major components in the yacht in order to achieve the light weight required for very low fuel consumption. All this has resulted in the exceptional vessel that has recently been launched in China. Adastra's 16 metre beam creates a spacious saloon area on the main deck which offers superb views through a panoramic window and accommodates a lounge area, dining table and navigation station. A forward facing door through the saloon window gives easy access to a large sunbed on the foredeck. The aft deck has a sofa and bar area to port and a dining area to starboard, further aft of this there is space for a 4.9 metre tender and directly below is a garage which can store a 3.1 metre tender. The garage door has been designed to fold out and create a large dive platform. Extra space has been created below deck by slightly flaring the central hull just above the waterline. This area has been split into two sections with a full-width master cabin located aft with access from the deck saloon, and two further guest cabins, accommodation for the crew, and the galley located forward of the engine compartment. Adastra offers comfortable accommodation for nine guests and up to six crew members. The main helm station, which has seating for two, is positioned in a raised pilot house situated between the aft deck and the saloon area and forms part of the cross beam structure. Adastra Yacht Trimaran 1

Adastra Yacht Trimaran (Wallpaper 2)

The boats' relatively small size enables them to blend in with coastal merchant and fishing traffic, making them difficult to locate and target. Molniya Class Corvette Ship 4. With a skilled operator, Russian-built patrol craft armed with Sunburn antiship missiles would be a significant threat to any seagoing adversary. The boat's high navigation characteristics allow it to use weapons in stormy weather with wind force 5 and ensures safety in the sea with wind force 8. Thanks to its sophisticated weapons, high running features, the boat can control a total area of water up to 5 thousand square nautical miles. The boat's speed is up to 38 knots, sailing range up to 2,400 miles, crew 44 members. The missile boat of Project 1241.8 has been developed on the same basic platform as the Project 1242.1 boat. It differs from the predecessor by the missile armament only: it carries 16 Kh-35 [SSN-X-25 Switchblade] missiles of the Uran-E system instead of 4 missiles of the Moskit-E (SS-N-22 Sunburn) system. The Uran-E missile characteristics are similar to those of American Harpoons, but the missile boats of Project 12418 carry twice more missiles on board. The boats can be delivered to customers one year after signing a contract. Vympel Joint Stock Shipbuilding Company (JSSC), based in the Volga River city of Rybinsk, is one of central Russia's largest shipyards specialising in series production of various types of river- and sea-going ships boats intended for diverse applications. Molniya Class Corvette Ship 4. At present the company serially builds boats up to 1,500 tons displacement intended for domestic and foreign customers both in naval and civil sectors. On of the major types of the vessels built by Vumpel is the Project 1241.8 Molniya Missile Boat. In addition to the pilot Molniya boat undergoing tests at the Black Sea base of Feodosia, the shipyard has made four others which already have potential buyers. Vympel can only sell its patrol craft to foreign buyers since it is unlikely the Russian navy will procure new equipment in the near future. In January 1999 it was announed that Vympel and Rosvoorouzhenie were to deliver two Project 1241RE missile boats to Vietnam. The frigate will come in versions which include a powerful gunboat, a patrol ship, a plane shooter and a hunter for submarines. The pilot ship of the series is already under construction for Vietnam. The frigate's streamlined hull and low-profile superstructure provide an excellent hiding envelope for everything that generates noise or heat, reflects radar pulses or disturbs magnetic fields. Moreover, the superstructure can be coated with stealth materials that make it invisible to radars. Propelled by two powerful water jets, the ship can race across shallows at over 30 knots. Big fuel tanks and fuel-saving diesel engines allow it to carry out missions at up to 3 thousand nautical miles from home base. Despite the displacement of just 545 tons, the frigate carries a formidable array of weaponry on board. This includes eight Kh-35 [SSN-X-25 Switchblade] anti-ship cruise missiles with a range of over 130 kilometers, two torpedo tubes, several anti-aircraft missile batteries of the VIKHR-K and IGLA makes and a number of large-caliber machine-guns. Molniya Class Corvette Ship 4

Molniya Class Corvette (Wallpaper 1)

The Chinese Navy was considering procuring Russian Molniya Class fast-attack craft. Reports surfaced in November 2003 that the PLA was interested in buying a number of these fast attack craft. Molniya Class Corvette Ship 3. The PLA was also building a large number, perhaps 20 or 30, of a new indigenous missile-armed fast attack craft. A purchase of the Molniya would augment the PLAN's ability to blockade Taiwan or to attack US Navy forces. Assuming the pre-existing force structure of 150 missile-and gun-equipped fast-attack craft, the Chinese Navy's future force could include 30 Molniya Class craft. The reports continued right up until 2007, suggesting that China had in fact ordered 24-30 Molniya Class vessels, with delivery dates between 2007-2008. As of mid-2008 no Molniya had appeared and China appeared to be pursuing greater numbers of the Type 022 missile boat. A development of the Soviet Tarantul fast attack craft, the Molniya was designed to operate in concert with other fast attack craft, or ships, submarines and aircraft, to mass anti-ship missiles. A small ship, its effectiveness decreases in poor weather and it has limited endurance, but these limitations are offset by low cost. It was consistent with established PLAN doctrine, which stressed the employment of large numbers of fast attack craft. With the Molniya, this doctrine could be expanded to take advantage the greater range of the ship and its missiles, and the ability of the missiles to be cued by off-board sensors. Molniya Class Corvette Ship 3. Russia will build Molniya class missile boats for Libya under a new contract, a source in the defense industry said on Wednesday. Russian media reported on Tuesday that Libya had signed with Russia a contract worth up to an estimated $200 million to buy three missile boats. "The order was placed with the Vympel shipbuilding yard in Rybinsk [in central Russia]. It involves at least three units worth up to $200 million," the source said. Russian-Libyan military cooperation was unfrozen when then-President Vladimir Putin visited Tripoli last April, with relations further strengthened by Muammar Gaddafi's subsequent visit to Moscow. During Putin's visit, the two countries signed a deal to write off $4.6 billion of Libya's debt in exchange for a host of new deals, including $2 billion in arms agreements. Libya also showed interest in buying Russian-made Su-30MKI fighters, T-90 tanks, and Tor-M2E air defense systems. The Molniya class fast attack boats have a maximum speed of over 40 knots and are equipped with anti-ship missiles, surface-to-air missiles, and a 76-mm gun. The boats' relatively small size and displacement enable them to blend in with coastal merchant and fishing traffic, making them difficult to locate and target. Russia earlier delivered two Molniya class boats to Vietnam and signed a licensed production agreement with Hanoi on 10 additional vessels. Molniya Class Corvette Ship 3

Molniya Class Corvette (Wallpaper 1)

The Project 1241 are a class of Soviet missile corvettes. They have the NATO reporting name Tarantul (not to be confused with the Stenka class patrol boat, whose official Soviet name is also "Tarantul"). Molniya Class Corvette Ship 2. These ships were designed to replace the Project 205 Tsunami (NATO: "Osa") missile boats. In the late 1970s, the Soviets realised the need for a larger, more seaworthy craft with better gun armament and higher positioned air search radars. The need for these improvements was underscored by the First Gulf War, when 12 Iraqi 'Osa-I's' were destroyed or damaged by short ranged Sea Skua anti-ship missiles. They were attacked by British Lynx helicopters, but the Osa crews didn't notice them because they flew below their radar horizon. In the Tarantul, both the single 76 mm main gun and the two 30 mm Gatling-type guns are used for air defence, together with a comprehensive electronic warfare suite. The boats are built by the Petrovsky yard (Leningrad), Rybinsk and Ulis yard (Vladivostok). A version of these ships for coastal anti submarine warfare and patrol was developed as the Pauk class corvette or Project 1241.2. Molniya Class Corvette Ship 2. The Indian navy paid approximately $30 million each to license-produce Tarantul-I in the early nineties. With over 30 sales on the export market the Tarantul has been a relative success for the Russian shipbuilding industry. The naming convention for NATO reporting name Tarantul was a special case here. NATO called the first version of the class as Tarantul-II, given that they had a better sensor suite/equipment than the ships of the following class Tarantul-I, which was produced exclusively for export. First version, based on the Pauk-class hull, though with a significant added amount of weight. Equipped with four SS-N-2 'Styx' ship-to-ship missiles (either the 40 km range P-15 'Termit' missile or the later P-20 variant with 80 km range) and the associated 'Plank Shave' radar targeting system (45 km range in active mode of surveillance, 75–100 km range in passive mode, with an added air surveillance capability). 1 x AK–176 76.2 mm main gun and 2 x AK-630 30 mm six-barreled Gatling guns, the latter CIWS system supported by the 'Bass Tilt' targeting radar. Furthermore, there is a Fasta-N SA-N-5 quadruple MANPAD lancher and two PK-16 decoy launchers. Propulsion is a COGOG system (COmbined Gas Or Gas)consisting of two M70 at 12,000 hp (8826 kW) high power gas turbines with a combined 24200 horsepower output for full power and two cruise gas turbines type M75 with a combined output of 5,000 hp (2942 kW). Top speed is 38 knots. Between 1979 and 1984, 13 ships of the type were built. Another ship R-55 was rebuilt after its completion as a test vessel for the "Kortik" short-range defense system for Project 1241.7. Molniya Class Corvette Ship 2

Molniya Class Corvette (Wallpaper 1)

The missile boat of Project 1242.1 is a further development of the Molniya (Lightning) family boats, developed for export. It differs from its predecessor (Project 1241RE boats) in that the outdated P-20 missile system [SS-N-2 Styx] has been replaced by the Moskit-E ( SS-N-22 Sunburn) missile system which fires supersonic antiship missiles, and that the new Garpun-Bal multirole radar system has been installed. Molniya Class Corvette Ship 1. Trials of the first boat of the class have already been completed. The Project 1242.1 Molniya Missile Boat is intended to engage combatant ships, amphibious ships, and other vessels at open sea. It has the variety of weapons with surface-to-surface and surface-to-air capabilities. The unique radar system covers the missile entire effective range, tracing concurrently 15 targets, and assigns six designated targets under intensive EW environment. The gun fire control system detects air and surface targets, performs automatic tracking, and computes firing data. The radar which is used to detect surface targets provides fire control system with designation data for five targets at a time. The boat is also fitted with active radar jammers and IFF radar. The missile boat is equipped with the full set of navigation and communication equipment, powerful gas turbine power plant , air-conditioning and ventilation systems to provide efficient operation in any climatic conditions. Russia has tested and put into production a new missile vessel, Molniya Class Corvette Ship 1, armed with four Moskit missiles. The Molniya is a follow-on to the successful Soviet Tarantul-class missile boats. The St. Petersburg-based design company, Almaz, has developed an export version of the Molniya boat. The unique Russian missile boat "Molniya " is available in a tropical modification. The vessel can destroy surface ships, transport and landing facilities in a coastal zone and out at sea. With its comparatively inconsiderable displacement of 550 tons, "Molniya " is equipped with four "Moskit" supersonic anti-vessel missiles. The first launch of Russia's newest supersonic anti-ship missile, the Moskit SS-N-22 Sunburn, was conducted from an export Molniya fast missile boat at the Feodosia test range late in October 1999. The boat has a radar missile target designation complex. It's the latest achievement in radio-electronic systems of this purpose. With its high noise-proof features, it can observe 15 targets simultaneously and define target destinations of six. The complex can reach targets 500 kilometers off. Besides strike missile guns, the boat has anti-aircraft missile weapons and automatic artillery installations. It has 12 portable anti-aircraft missile complexes "Igla" meant to hit air targets in conditions of natural visibility. The on-board rapid-fire artillery guns are meant to destroy air, surface and coastal targets. They can also be used to liquidate floating mines. "Molniya " also has two launchers and combined-interference shells to protect targets from anti-boat weapons with different guidance systems. Molniya Class Corvette Ship 1

Molniya Class Corvette (Wallpaper 2)

The sun was beating down in full force Friday on a crowd of shipyard workers, dignitaries, journalists and executives from P&O Cruises who had assembled at Monfalcone shipyard in Trieste, Italy. The occasion? MS Azura Luxury Crusie Ship 4. The ceremonial float out of U.K.-based P&O Cruises' newest superliner (that's British for mega-ship!), Azura, which is due to launch April 2010 in Southampton. A float out, in basic terms, is the process of introducing water to the dry dock in which exterior construction of a vessel is taking place. It's not an instant rush of water; over a period of hours, Azura's dock is slowly filled, and the 116,000-ton, 3,080-passenger vessel eventually rises, floating for the very first time -- officially becoming a ship! Azura will then move from the dry dock to another part of the yard where work will begin on its interiors. (The dock won't be empty for long: Next week, another new-build from P&O parent line Carnival Corp. will be born there as the keel is laid for Cunard's Queen Elizabeth.) As is usual maritime tradition, pomp and ceremony surrounded the float-out. In honour of the Italy-based shipyard chosen to build Azura, Carnival U.K. CEO David Dingle made a speech entirely in Italian -- he sounded pretty fluent though the language is clearly not his native tongue! The ship was also blessed by a priest (who, looking dapper, had been wearing sunglasses prior to his big moment on this hot, sunny day). Captain Keith Dowds' wife, Amanda Dowds, served as the "madrina," or godmother, for the ceremony, smashing a bottle of Prosecco against the hull of the ship for good luck (this ritual is also common for ship christenings). Both the Italian and the British national anthems were played to cheers. Before the float out, Cruise Critic had the unique opportunity to take a tour of the under-construction ship. It's still very much a building site -- picture metal and wires poking out everywhere. MS Azura Luxury Crusie Ship 4. We were able to walk through Deck 7, the ship's main promenade. Present for the tour (and the ceremony) were Michelin-starred chef Atul Kochhar, who will oversee an Indian fine dining restaurant, Sindhu, here, and wine expert Olly Smith, who is working on a wine bar and restaurant, The Glass House. Both were able to see the works-in-progress spaces that their venues will eventually occupy. Next stop: Deck 15, which is already visibly coming together as the lido deck area (the space for the pool is already cut in, and we'd have loved to jump in and cool off). Already, we can see a big difference in this ship from Ventura, whose pool is covered by a magrodome. Azura's pool will be open to the sky. On Decks 16 and 17, the Oasis Spa and adults-only retreat are works-in-progress. The retreat doesn't look like much now, but a picture on an easel showed a rendering of the space with its large cabana. While atop the ship, Dingle, Amanda Dowds and other VIP's were a given a chance to try their hand at welding. Nigel Esdale, managing director for P&O Cruises, tells us that Azura will bring back some of the cruise line's more traditional elements -- things that its core passengers love. This ship won't be as geared to families as Ventura was, and it's aimed squarely at P&O's fans and past passengers rather than first-timers. Among the features that will appeal to traditional P&O cruisers are a dance floor in the atrium and a reading room. At the same time, Azura is adopting some Princess Cruises-like qualities -- Princess is a sister line -- from an adults-only retreat to a big poolside movie screen. This is also the first new-build for P&O that will feature single cabins -- all but extinct among today's modern cruise vessels. Esdale says that this component is already a hit; the 18 single cabins onboard have already sold out for next year, and though there are no other P&O new-builds on tap at this point, solo staterooms will definitely be considered for future ship orders. MS Azura Luxury Crusie Ship 4

Cruise line Carnival UK has deployed 802.11n Wi-Fi from Aruba Networks at its new headquarters in Southampton and for the crew on its P &O Cruises liner MS Azura Luxury Crusie Ship 3. Carnival UK owns P&O Cruises and Cunard, and is part of global cruise company Carnival Corporation. Many cruise ships have limited internet access in crew areas because of the cost and difficulty of running network cabling, but Azura’s crew have 802.11n wireless access throughout the crew area. Deploying wireless networks based on the Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers (IEEE) 802.11n standard gives better throughput and range. Fewer access points (APs) need to be deployed and consequently less cabling. However even the deployment of wireless on a cruise ship presents a unique set of challenges according to IT infrastructure manager at Carnival Cruise Lines, Davd Binks: "A ship’s all steel construction makes for a hostile wireless environment," he said. “Once a ship sails, we can’t afford to have wireless problems, so the Wi-Fi network has to automatically adapt itself to local conditions no matter how challenging,” he explained. Wi-Fi performance on Aruba’s 802.11n network is enhanced by the Adaptive Radio Management (ARM) and spectrum analyser technology integrated into Aruba 802.11n APs. MS Azura Luxury Crusie Ship 3. ARM uses infrastructure-based controls to optimise network and client performance in real-time, which means the wireless network adjusts itself automatically. Wireless network parameters such as power output levels, AP load balancing, airtime allocation, and interference mitigation dynamically adjust to ensure latency-sensitive data, like voice and video applications operate reliably. The ship's 802.11n Wi-Fi system was tested and certified in May 2009, a month before the Azura was launched. The MS Azura weighs about 115,000 tons and can carry over 3,000 passengers and 1,200 crew, and was commissioned in April 2010. Binks said Aruba’s 802.11n solution performed well on the Azura, and Carnival UK is deploying 802.11n Wi-Fi for both passengers and crew on its latest liner, the Cunard Queen Elizabeth, which will launch on 11 October. The company said another reason for it choosing Aruba was because its system dealt with high client density and guest access requirements. Carnival is also trialling Aruba’s Virtual Branch Networks (VBN) system to allow staff working remotely to access its corporate system. Using compact Aruba APs remotely gives Carnival the facility to connect teleworkers and ship’s crew stationed at temporary offices while in port. MS Azura Luxury Crusie Ship 3

MS Azura (one) MS Azura, luxury, cruise, ship, Carnival PLC, P&O Cruises, Fincantieri, Darcey Bussell, Grand class, passenger ship, ocean, voyage, widescreen, wallpaper, photo, picture.
MS Azura is a cruise ship of the P&O Cruises fleet. The ship was built by Fincantieri at their shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. At 115,055 tonnes, Azura is the second largest of seven ships currently in service with P&O Cruises. She is also the sister ship of MS Ventura. She officially entered service with the company in April 2010 and was named by Darcey Bussell. MS Azura Luxury Crusie Ship 1 is a Grand class ship, with a modified design which distinguishes her from early ships of the same class. Construction of Azura began in 2008 when her keel was officially laid on 27 October 2008. A ceremonial float out took place on Friday 26 June 2009, in which she was blessed by a priest, with Amanda Dowds, wife of the ship's captain, acting as her Godmother. The formal handover transferring the vessel to P&O Cruises, took place on Friday 26 March 2010, attended by P&O Cruises' managing director Carol Marlow and Carnival UK's chief executive David Dingle. Azura's maiden voyage began on 31 March 2010, when she departed from the Fincantieri shipyard en route to Southampton. She arrived in the UK on 7 April 2010 at 9:12am. Azura's cruise with passengers began on 12 April 2010. Azura was christened at 08:20 pm on Saturday, 10 April 2010, by godmother Darcey Bussell. A former principal dancer of the Royal Ballet, Bussell presented a dance performance by Royal Ballet School as part of the celebrations, as well as performing the traditional bottle breaking ceremony to christen the ship. Azura was originally registered in her homeport of Southampton, UK; but from 1 November 2011 she was re-registered to Hamilton, Bermuda, bringing her in line with her other P&O fleetmates and enabling wedding ceremonies to be conducted onboard. MS Azura Luxury Crusie Ship 1 is designed to appeal more to P&O's traditional client base and returning customers, whereas sister ship Ventura is more family orientated, and attracts new, often younger clients. For the first time in the P&O Cruises fleet, Azura features eighteen single staterooms. There are 900 cabins with private balconies and a select number of spa staterooms with exclusive access to the Oasis Spa. Azura, is the only Grand Class ship to feature a Duck Tail stern. Wine expert Olly Smith has helped to create the Glass House, a venue where passengers are able to sample various wines. Atul Kochhar, a three Michelin stars chef will be enlisted to create Sindhu, an Indian fine dining restaurant on board. The ship features a dance floor in the atrium, a New York styled show lounge and modern interpretation on a London pub.[12] For the first time in the P&O Cruises fleet, Azura features an open air cinema screen similar to those found on Princess Cruises ships such as Caribbean Princess. The screen, known as the SeaScreen is situated in front of the funnel on Azura. Having been designed and built for P&O Cruises, Azura features many rooms and facilities common on other ships in the fleet. Following a company tradition, the English style pub is named Brodie's, in tribute to Brodie McGhie Wilcox, co-founder of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company. The ship's main dining rooms are also given the traditional names of the Peninusular, Oriental and Meridien restaurants. In total, the ship has eleven restaurants and eating areas, twelve bars and places to drink, four pools, a gym, two spas, outdoor cinema, a theatre and two show lounges. MS Azura Luxury Crusie Ship 1

This relic of the Cold War remains an impressive example of Russian ingenuity and resourcefulness - it is assembled almost entirely out of rusty food tins and fueled by potato-derived biofuel. Nicknamed “The Toasty Sausage” by her sailors, the Dmitri Donsoki provided a welcome respite from the freezing temperatures and systemic food shortages of 80’s Soviet Russia. Commander Sasha Konsonantchev recalls: “We once spent an entire month circling Iceland because I was forced to replace our navigator with a party minister who wanted to go on vacation. After we figured out we were lost we had a big laugh. Then we drew lots and shot the five men who drew the shortest so we would have enough food to make it home. RFS Dmitry Donskoy TK-208 (Wallpaper 4). It was a good time.” Designed with stealth in mind, this Typhoon-class sub was never very quick. The Dmitri Donskoi was capable of only 27 knots while submerged, which is somewhere around 10 MPH land speed. Below is a chart comparing the top speed of the Dmitri Donskoi and my friend, Terry. The design of the Typhoon submarine is multi-hulled and bears resemblance to a catamaran. The submarine has two separate pressure hulls with a diameter of 7.2 m each, five inner habitable hulls and 19 compartments. The pressure hulls are arranged parallel to each other and symmetrical to a centerplane. The missile compartment is arranged in the upper part of the bow between the pressure hulls. Both hulls and all compartments are connected by transitions. The pressure hulls, the centerplane and the torpedo compartment are made of titanium and the outer light hull is made of steel. A protected module, comprising the main control room and electronic equipment compartment, is arranged behind the missile silos above the main hulls in a centerplane under the guard of retractable devices. The submarine's design includes features to enable it to both travel under ice and for ice-breaking. It has an advanced stern fin with horizontal hydroplane fitted after the screws. The nose horizontal hydroplanes are in the bow section and are retractable into the hull. The retractable systems include two periscopes (one for the commander and one for general use), radio sextant, radar, radio communications, navigation and direction-finder masts. They are housed within the sail guard. The sail and sail guard have a reinforced rounded cover for ice-breaking. The submarine is equipped with the D-19 launch system with 20 solid-fuel propellant R-39 missiles which have a range of up to 10,000 km. They are arranged in silos in two rows in front of the sail between the main hulls. RFS Dmitry Donskoy TK-208 (Wallpaper 4).

RFS Dmitry Donskoy TK-208 (Wallpaper 1)

This is earlier than previously announced. The Navy source also claimed that the new proyekt 955 SSBN Yuriy Dolgorukiy will be the launch platform for one of this year’s three planned Bulava tests. He also reiterated that Russian military men are committed to Bulava, seeing no alternative to it as the Navy’s nuclear deterrent for the future. In May, Defense Minister Serdyukov said three identical Bulava missiles are being assembled in the hope of discovering a common flaw in their construction. Serdyukov said the next Bulava launch wouldn’t occur before November at the earliest. RFS Dmitry Donskoy TK-208 (Wallpaper 2). RFS Dmitry Donskoy TK-208 (Wallpaper 1) is a Russian Navy nuclear ballistic missile submarine, designated Project 941 Akula class (NATO reporting name Typhoon). Hull number TK-208 was the lead vessel of the Soviet third generation Project 941 Akula class (NATO reporting name Typhoon) of ballistic missile submarines. She was laid down at the Severodvinsk shipyards on March 3, 1977 and launched on September 23, 1980. At 175 metres in length, she became the world's largest submarine, a record which she still holds today along with her five sister ships. RFS Dmitry Donskoy TK-208 (Wallpaper 1). In 1990, she entered the dry dock in Severodvinsk for upgrades and repairs. Due to both economic and technological problems, the completion was severely postponed. In 2000, work on her was intensified. In June 2002, now serving in the Russian Navy, the TK-208 finally left the Severodvinsk dry dock. After 12 years of overhaul and modifications, she had now received the name Dmitry Donskoy, named after the Grand Duke of Moscow (1359–1389). The twenty launchers for the R-39 missiles she originally carried were replaced with launchers for the most advanced submarine-launched ballistic missile to date, the RSM-56 Bulava. Although she was built as a third generation submarine, she is now referred to as a fourth generation submarine due to her extensive modifications. The first launch of a Bulava missile was carried out by the Dmitry Donskoy on September 27, 2005. The vessel was surfaced and fired the missile from a point in the White Sea. On December 21, 2005, the new missile system was tested underwater for the first time. It successfully hit a target on the Kura Test Range on the Kamchatka Peninsula. In August 2009, Patriarch Kirill visited the submarine and met her crewmen. On December 9, 2009, the Dmitry Donskoy launched a Bulava missile which had a failed third stage and was visible in Norway making a glowing spiral in the sky. On October 7, 2010, she launched another Bulava ballistic missile from the White Sea. Targets at the Kura Test Range in the Russian Far East were successfully hit. Remaining Typhoons will be refitted with newest SS-NX-30 Bulava missile system in 2005-2009. The Typhoon has an automated torpedo and missile loading system including 6 torpedo tubes with calibres of 650 and 533 mm. The main machinery consists of two reactors each and two steam turbines of 190 MW that provide a maximum speed of 25-27 knots. Compared to the first and second generation of SSBNs the Typhoon enjoys far greater maneuverability Despite of its larger displacement the Typhoons are less noisy than their predecessors. To reduce the acoustic signature a two-spool system of rubber-cord pneumatic shock-absorption is employed as well as a block layout of gears and equipment, a new sound isolation and andrihydroacoustic coating. RFS Dmitry Donskoy TK-208 (Wallpaper 1).

RFS Dmitry Donskoy TK-208 (Wallpaper 2)

Disney Cruise Line’s new Port Canaveral-bound ship, the Fantasy, reached a major milestone in its construction over the weekend. The final building block of the ship — a 265-ton portion of the ship’s bow — was installed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Building on the classic style of her sister ship, the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy™ is the regal fourth cruise liner in the expanding Disney Cruise Line fleet. Featuring 14 towering decks, a ship length of 1,115 feet and a maximum width of 125 feet, the 130,000-ton vessel includes 1,250 staterooms and has the capacity to comfortably accommodate 4,000 passengers—along with the over 1450 Cast and Crew Members who tend to the needs of every cruise Guest each and every day. Building on the classic style of the previous ships, the Disney Magic, the Disney Wonder and the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy is a majestic sailing vessel where early 20th-century design—recalling the golden age of cruising—meets state-of-the-art technology. As can be expected from Disney, the cruise liner was specially designed with families in mind, combining sleek style and convenient facilities with splashes of Disney magic. The 4,000-passenger Disney Fantasy is scheduled begin its maiden voyage on March 31, 2012. It will be based at Port Canaveral, offering alternating seven-night cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean, including stops at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. The new cruise ship for the U.S. cruise company Disney Cruise Line (Orlando), the Disney Fantasy, will leave MEYER WERFT’s covered building dock on Sunday, 8 January 2012. Around 11 a.m. the new ship will slowly be floated out of the covered hall, followed by a couple of tests and trials to be performed while the ship is in the harbour. When the ship is berthed alongside the yard’s pier the remaining work on board will be completed, for example the installation of the mast. The ship is scheduled to be conveyed to the North Sea two weeks later. The passage on the river Ems will be depending on the weather and tidal conditions. The Disney Fantasy has a length overall of 340 m, is 37.0 m wide and can operate at a speed of 23,5 knots. Delivery of the ship to the owner will take place as planned in Bremerhaven on 9 February 2012.
Today in Germany, Disney Cruise Line took possession of its newest ship, the Disney Fantasy, in a traditional maritime ceremony. The Meyer Werft flag was lowered, while the Disney Cruise Line flag was raised, transferring ownership from the shipbuilder to Disney. The Disney Fantasy will sail on her maiden voyage on March 31, 2012 from Port Canaveral, Florida, also home to her sister ship, the Disney Dream. “Today we celebrate the culmination of a wonderful partnership, as we take possession of the Disney Fantasy and prepare for the journey home to Florida. This ship is the result of the superb craftsmanship from the master shipbuilders at Meyer Werft and the innovation, imagination and ingenuity of the Disney team, who have partnered together so beautifully to bring this ship to life,” said Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line. “We are eagerly anticipating our guests, who will experience storytelling in enchanting new ways onboard the Disney Fantasy while making magical memories that will last a lifetime.” The ship will remain in Bremerhaven for another week while additional crew members board, and supplies and provisions are loaded. The Disney Fantasy is then scheduled to depart on Feb. 16 for its transatlantic voyage to the U.S., with an expected arrival to its homeport in Port Canaveral, Florida on March 6. Prior to its Florida arrival, the Disney Fantasy will have its Christening in New York on March 1. Captain Tom Forberg will officially take the helm of the Disney Fantasy for Disney Cruise Line. As part of the Disney Cruise Line ship construction team, Captain Forberg has been with the company for more than 15 years and was responsible for launching Disney’s first three ships, the Disney Dream, the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder.
Following its New York christening a few days ago, the newest Disney Cruise Line ship, the Disney Fantasy, sailed into to its homeport in Port Canaveral, Fla. early this morning, marking the occasion with fireworks bursts over the ocean waters, with characters and fans cheering its arrival. Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, and Donald Duck all donned their best sailing attire to watch as the Fantasy approached. The Disney Fantasy’s maiden voyage will set sail on March 31, the embarking on seven-night sailings, alternating between Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, with a stop at Castaway Cay, Disney’s own private island in The Bahamas. Prior to that, the Fantasy will sail a series of Inaugural preview cruises. With a guest capacity of up to 4,000, the Disney Fantasy is the second of two new, and significantly larger, ships that are being added to the Disney fleet, also including the Disney Dream, which arrived in early 2011. Now in Florida, the Disney Fantasy is expected to generate more than 500 jobs in the area and attract thousands of additional visitors to the port, according to an economic impact study by Martin Associates. “Not only is the arrival of the Disney Fantasy an important milestone for our business, it will also have a positive impact on the Central Florida community,” said Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line. “With our fourth ship, we are able to generate more jobs and economic activity for the region while delivering even more cruising options for families to share unforgettable cruise experiences with us.” “We are excited to welcome the Disney Fantasy home,” said Port Canaveral Chief Executive Officer Stan Payne. “The arrival of the Disney Dream last year made a significant economic impact on Central Florida and we know the Disney Fantasy will add to that dramatically. We have seen our local businesses benefit when a ship of this magnitude and special Disney magic becomes part of our community.”
The Disney Fantasy is a cruise ship of the American cruise company Disney Cruise Line, part of The Walt Disney Company. The Disney Fantasy is the fourth ship in the expanding cruise line, and was Christened on March 1, 2012. Disney Fantasy's captain is Tom Forberg. In February 2007, Disney Cruise Line announced that it had commissioned two new ships for its fleet. The first steel-cut, for scrollwork on the ship's hull, took place in March 2009 at the Meyer Werft shipyards in Papenburg, Germany. Later that month, the two ships were named, with the Disney Fantasy set to enter service on March 31, 2012, a little over a year after its sister vessel, the Disney Dream. The ship's keel was laid on February 11, 2011. Disney Cruise Line president, Karl Holz, along with Minnie Mouse, officially placed a magic coin beneath the ship's hull. The coin is identical to that which was placed beneath the Disney Dream, however featured the hull number S688, and the date of the keel laying. On September 13, 2011, on the Official Disney Cruise Line Facebook Page, It was announced that the Stern Character on the Disney Fantasy will be Dumbo, The Flying Elephant. On December 9, 2011, Meyer Werft found several water lines open on the cruise ship. 48 cabins were damaged at a cost of approximately one million euros. Disney Fantasy was floated out of the building dock on January 8, 2012, at Meyer Werft. Disney Fantasy was delivered to Disney Cruise Line on February 9, 2012, In Bremerhaven, Germany. The Disney Fantasy departed Bremerhaven on February 16, 2012. Disney Fantasy arrived in the United States of America for the first time, calling on New York, on February 28, 2012. Disney Fantasy was christened on March 1, 2012 in New York City. The godmother of the ship is Mariah Carey. The christening was held on the ship featuring one time performances in the Walt Disney Theatre. Neil Patrick Harris hosted the Christening ceremony. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld performed during the show. Nick Cannon, husband of Mariah Carey, assisted Minnie Mouse with the breaking of the champagne bottle on the ship. On March 6, 2012, Disney Fantasy arrived in her homeport of Port Canaveral, Florida. Until her Maiden Voyage on March 31st, she will be sailing on Preview Cruises for exclusive guests only. Disney Fantasy, structurally, is almost identical to Disney Dream, with gross registered tonnage of 130,000 GRT, a length of 340 metres (1,120 ft) and a width of 37 metres (121 ft). Disney Fantasy will have 1,250 staterooms. Additional features, such as on-board services and amenities, are mostly similar to those on Disney Dream, with some slight tweaks of course. Disney Fantasy also has the popular AquaDuck Water Coaster, the first Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at sea that will turn into the Pirates League on Mickey's Pirates IN the Caribbean Party Nights. The Nightclubs District is called Europa and features a re-imagined and expanded Skyline Club, The Tube, Le Plazza, O'Gills Pub and Ooh La La, an adults only lounge. Disney Fantasy is based at Disney Cruise Line's terminal at Port Canaveral, Florida. The ship will embark on alternating Eastern and Western 7 night Caribbean cruises, and will call on Disney's private island Castaway Cay.
When Grand Princess was being built back in 1998, it was described by the company as "the biggest, the fastest, the most elaborate, the most technologically advanced ... the grandest ship on the ocean." My, how times have changed. Grand Princess did indeed spend a year as the biggest, fastest and most elaborate ship at sea, but it is now dwarfed by many others that are bigger, faster, newer and more technologically sophisticated. And yet, more than a decade later, the basic ship design that anchors Princess' most popular class (which includes Caribbean Princess, Star Princess, Golden Princess, Crown Princess, Ruby Princess and Emerald Princess) still holds its own thanks to a massive overhaul in May 2011. The multi-million dollar refurbishment of Grand Princess included a complete transformation of the ship's atrium into the much jazzier Piazza (a newfangled addition introduced by the fleet's most recent ships that combines theater in the round with food and drink outlets). It finally got its own version of The Sanctuary, a popular adult-only sun deck that debuted on Crown Princess in 2006. Other additions included new restaurants and lounges ranging from Alfredo's Pizzeria to the Tea Leaves tea salon, the Crown Grill steakhouse and the snazzy One5 nightclub. A seven-night cruise from Southampton gave me ample opportunity to check out the new and improved Grand Princess. There was barely a nook or cranny that didn't get some sort of special overhaul -- with two exceptions. One of the biggest complaints we heard onboard was that the central bank of elevators was old, creaky and unreliable. (Two were out of service during our cruise, which didn't help matters.) Because the original design of Grand Princess did not include a central stairwell servicing all decks, you've either got to walk forward or aft from the middle of the ship or wait, interminably, for a lift. The second area that did not get much love was cabins. The public areas received the lion's share of attention (the massive refurbishment also addressed mechanical systems and such), and there has been much chat on our Princess' forums about how dated the cabins continue to look. Frankly, I disagree; our cabin was comfortable and pleasant. Though it's true the color scheme isn't terribly dynamic, Princess has kept up with necessary upgrades, such as flat-screen televisions, and new mattresses and duvets. Ultimately, what Princess does better than most lines is offer a seamless blend of traditional cruising with the more contemporary options that are necessary these days. Grand Princess may not be the newest ship in the fleet, but (aside from those balky elevators) you'll never know it.

Grand Princess (Wallpaper 1)

Princess Cruises revealed specifics on the removal of the Skywalkers Lounge pod and other changes being made to its 2,600 passenger GRAND PRINCESS. The first in a class of nine Princess and two P&O ships (that more or less utilized her blueprint), the 109,000 gt GRAND PRINCESS was the largest passenger ship in the world when she debuted in 1998. Her futuristic profile, the creation of Fincantieri architect Giacomo Mortola, was considered edgy and controversial for the pod suspended over the ship’s stern containing Skywalker’s Lounge. A quiet nook by day and disco at night, Skywalkers was dismissed by many as a “shopping cart handle” that marred the ship’s profile. Some also complained that the underutilized space cast a shadow over the Terrace Pool atop the stern. Naysayers will now get their wish in seeing the structure removed as part of a multi-million dollar upgrade to the ship this spring at Freeport’s Grand Bahama Shipyard. The pod was the first of its type installed on a ship and subsequent pods utilized lighter materials. Its removal will improve the GRAND PRINCESS’ handling and efficiency and save fuel. There are no plans to remove similar structures from the line’s other Grand Class ships, GOLDEN PRINCESS, STAR PRINCESS and CARIBBEAN PRINCESS. The 24 day refit will also include the installation of a new nightclub on aft Deck 15 called One5, the transformation of the atrium into Princess’ signature Piazza, including the addition of Vines tapas and wine bar. A Crown Grill steakhouse and Crooner’s martini bar will also be added and a new Alfredo’s Pizzeria will feature an open kitchen. New to the fleet will be the Leaves Tea Lounge and Library, complete with tea sommelier that can assist passengers in blending specialized tea creations. Further enhancements will be made to the Horizon Court, Lotus Spa and wedding chapel. “This is the largest makeover we’ve ever undertaken for any of our ships,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president. “When Grand Princess was launched she was the most innovative ship at sea, and now we’re adding some of the later innovations we introduced on subsequent ships.” When GRAND PRINCESS emerges from her makeover, she will head to Fort Lauderdale for a May 5 transatlantic crossing to her summer home port of Southampton.

Grand Princess (Wallpaper 1)
