The fact that the President of the United States Barack Obama has already been elected once, sworn in, and been on the ballot in Georgia before has not entered into the legal proceedings in an absolute swindle and joke.

Democratic Party of Georgia Chairman Mike Berlon releases the following statement on tomorrow's administrative hearing to address President Obama's inclusion on the Georgia Presidential primary ballot:

"Several lawsuits were recently filed against President Obama questioning whether he is an American citizen in an attempt to remove him from the Georgia primary ballot. Despite the fact that these issues have been thoroughly litigated, a hearing has been scheduled in these cases for Thursday, January 26, 2012. The Democratic Party of Georgia is not a party to any of these lawsuits.

"This afternoon we received a letter from counsel for the President directed to the Georgia Secretary of State asking him to intervene in these lawsuits and bring them to a halt, because it is well established that there is no issue here – a fact validated time and again by courts in this country.

"In the letter, counsel also indicated that they had no interest in continuing to appear or participate further in the litigation and have suspended their involvement.

"We respect the President's position and urge the Secretary of State to bring this matter to a conclusion. We also believe that each political party has the absolute legal right to determine who should appear on their primary and general election ballots according to their own rules without interference from outside parties.

"In light of these developments the Democratic Party of Georgia has no plans to continue to be involved in these baseless cases. Furthermore the Democratic Party of Georgia will cooperate with the President and his campaign in any way requested to make sure that his name appears on the primary and general election ballots for 2012."

So now it comes down that Board of Regents policy has adversely affected the University of Georgia recruiting of a 6 for 6 inch 345 pound Samoan athlete who so loved his scholarship offer that he tattooed it on his arm? Do you think this is going to help bring foreign students to Athens? What about the all time Georgia sack leader Richard Tarditz of France? What about offering a scholarship to North Oconee lineman Joseph Scelfo? Who is going to step up to the redneck policies of the Board of Regents? I am damn sure that Florida, Missouri, and Texas A&M would offer this Chester Brown a scholarship. Why are we not keeping the best lineman in the area in quite some time go un-recruited? Didn't his dad used to coach at UGA? We need answers, not scapegoats, but it is only the Democratic legislators who are trying to do anything about our stupid and xenophobic overreaction that is costing us every day at the grocery store and restaurants. It is all connected folks. When University of Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray is getting put on his ass next year, you have the Republican hierarchy at the State of Georgia to thank you for not covering his blindside.

Maybe this will begin to show the average good ol' boy redneck tailgaters at UGA football games that the Republican party in Georgia really does not have the best interests of the University of Georgia football team in mind when they created xenophobic laws that have denied us a really big lineman. Seems like big time college football programs like USC (not South Carolina but you can bet Steve Spurrier is laughing at us again), Utah, Brigham Young, Utah State, Hawaii, Boise State and a few dozen other schools have been kicking our ass for the better part of a generation now when it comes to recruiting Samoans and other Pacific Rim athletes.

Tammy Gilland Announces Bid for Oconee County Commission Post 4

Tammy Gilland announced she will once again seek election to the Oconee County Board of Commissioners. She will run for the Post 4 seat currently occupied by Chuck Horton.

“During my 2010 campaign, I had the opportunity to meet and listen to the citizens of Oconee County. I am still eager to offer my service on the Commission to encourage economic development and to provide Oconee County residents with the quality of services they expect and deserve,” Gilland said.

Gilland’s community involvement includes serving on the boards of the Oconee County and Athens-Area Chambers of Commerce; President of the Oconee Rotary Club; President of the Junior League of Athens; President of the Athens-Oconee Junior Woman’s Club; President of the Board for the East Chapter of the American Red Cross; President of the YWCO; Chair of the Oconee County 4-H Program Development Team; and Chair of the Athens Regional Medical Center Foundation’s Annual Gifts Committee. She is currently one of the co-chairs for Oconee County After Prom 2012, chair of the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation’s Winefest, facilitator for Youth Leadership Oconee, district chair of the Cherokee District for the Boy Scouts of Northeast Georgia, and secretary of Prevent Child Abuse Athens.

She is a 2005 graduate of Leadership Georgia and recipient of the Athena Award from the Athens-Area Chamber of Commerce, Jennie Award from the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia’s Woman of Distinction, and Oconee County Rotarian of the Year and Four Way Test Recipient.

Gilland has been employed at The University of Georgia for 21 years. She is currently Chief of Staff and Senior Director of Development. Her husband, Geof, is a TV/Producer Director in the Office of Public Affairs at UGA. They have two children, Lyndsey, a senior at North Oconee High School, and Tyler, an 8^th grader at Malcom Bridge Middle School.

Gilland said, “I am very committed to working with the citizens of Oconee County to make this a community in which we are all proud to live, work, and serve.”

Of course I still think that Gainesville State College-Oconee Campus should change its name to Watkinsville (or Oconee) University, annex the recently abandoned Federal property across the street, make all that agricultural property a viable working farm, and coordinate the curriculum better with the UGA and ABAC and other area institutions of higher education.
