Thought I'd share a patch I did to enable the Wah effect in the Pod 2.0 without need of a pedal (you'll need a computer and a MIDI interface though). You must get Pure Data in order to run the patch which is self explanatory. The patch is set to send on MIDI channel 1. Enjoy ( ;

Legacy hardware running in Windows 7

My MacBook Pro died on me recently; the warranty was long gone...
After sending it to an authorized Apple service provider and being told there was no solution for my €2.600 laptop (DC board and logic board problems), I had to resort to my old G4 PowerBook 550 for a couple of gigs. It did fine although the sets were not that demanding.
Anyway, I needed (and still do) a safer solution and the only "capable" computer I had was a Windows 7 (64bit) laptop.
The Apogee Duet I used with both my Apple computers (yes, it runs with the G4 despite the listed requirements) has a firewire connection and no Windows drivers.
I had an old Emagic EMI 2|6 lying around and decided it was time to put it to good use.
Tried to install the available drivers to no avail, did some internet searches and after finishing the "puzzle" thought it could be helpful to post my experience with legacy hardware running in a 64bit OS.
Basically, 32bit drivers do not run on 64bit operating systems*.
However, there's a workaround.
I installed the VMware Player (which is free) and in it, Windows XP.
Opened XP, installed the drivers for the EMI 2|6 and had it working (with the green LEDs lit).
There's no need to keep VMware Player and/or Win XP running, although you'll need to open both every time you need the soundcard.
It should be this easy, it was for me ( ;

The electro-music/EdP sound collage project No Labels No Musics challenges musicians to create original compositions from the existing field recording archive. Participants will be limited to field recordings as the only sound sources, but are encouraged to chop, mutilate, and process until cooked to desired flavor.

For this project:

1. Participants use ONLY the field recordings in the http://electro-music.com/forum/index.php?f=179 to construct your pieces.

If you have your own recording(s) that you would like to use outside of the archive, we ask that you upload your field recordings and add them to the archive. One of the interesting aspects about this project is observing the differences between artists when everyone has equal access to the same source material sounds. More often than not, no two people will use a field recording the same way, especially if processed.

2. Original compositions should be anywhere from 1 to 10 minutes in length. Tracks need to be in FLAC format.

3. When you are finished, you can upload your track preferably to soundcloud or your website, and email the link to João at editoradoporto@gmail.com ~ DO NOT UPLOAD YOUR TRACK HERE

4. Please supply the following information for your track:

5. Deadline for submission is Sunday January 6th, 2013. Project will be published under a creative commons license at EdP netlabel with João Ricardo. Thanks João!

This is NOT a competition or a contest. This is simply a creative project to explore soundscapes and designs to see what can be carved from this source material.
